  1. If PA was feeling disenchanted after the fallout from the LEESAGATE scandal, he will need to break out the blood pressure pills to cope with BBBBH’s performance tonight after trading him out during the week! Consolation as a Bully’s supporter though.

    1. Leesagate – hilarious.

Wish she would come back. Enjoyed hearing about her team. Hope she smacks Timmy this week.

      1. Careful with your choice of words Motts – that would probably create a further scandal as inappropriate behaviour in the workplace. I’m sure PA would have been all over that one had he found the tissue box earlier.

    1. And for the record, PA is on 282/3/Y. He said he was captaining Hodge but he really captained Cooney. Just quietly, I think he’s in a spot of bother against the Maulers this week.

      1. We’ll see Mottsy, the reason why I had Coons as Captain was I accidentally click on him not realizing I did after I came back from the game. Just to see Bazza kick 5 and Murphs play like a slut. Less we won.

        1. Btw just had a look at the match-up why did you put browny on the pine ? I might make some ground up on you there.

          1. Ahhh there you are PA.

Good to see you’re still here!!

PS yes, I have had 1 bottle of Bundaberg Rum/Mother’s Milk/Liquid of the Motherland.

      1. Brown won’t play. Missed a fitness session at 4pm today and Vossy is saying he won’t risk him this early in the year.

        1. Brown will play. He won’t risk it outside 50. He’ll prolly get 3 goals and 85 SC points. Brown doesn’t sit out jsut cause something hurts.

        1. Remember Boyd was out and there wasn’t a great deal of defensive accountability from the Budgies – an aberration for Gia IMO.

    1. Goody no orphan in a woeful crows team. Not one of them could crack a ton! I dont think i’ve ever seen the crows going this bad.
      Supercoach poison atm.

      1. Yep, I’m a Crows supporter (yay) but only had one in my team at the start of the season: Tippett due to his DPP status, mostly. Then, when he stunk it up, I traded him for Dangerfield, only to see him get crunched, return from the dead and then play “chicken” with the goal post – it’s one thing to have eyes for the ball but really……..

  2. 216/2/N
I’ll cop a 0 if JB doesn’t play, with 2 of my other forwards dropped this week. Not good when playing a team with a (slightly) better average.

  3. Mottsy, I am kinda under the weather. The wife told me our second bun is in oven tonight and I celebrated with a bottle of Bundy. However. In my view tonight’s commentary had some stellar calls.

    1. Commetti. Seconds after Doughty clearly gave away a free kick that was missed by the umps, a Dogs fan could be seen speculating on the call. Commetti said that he was “not happy about the benefit of the Doughty”. Classic.

    2. Brucey. Murphy kicked a behind – it looked good but bent heavily to the left. Murphy watched it through. Brucey proclaimed it a particularly “curvey punt so to speak”. I mean. So quick.

I would like to see a column on AFL’s best calls. Bring back the classics. The best ever calls by AFL commentators. It seems somehow appropriate on this, the ANZAC weekend of all weekends.

      1. Well kb, you’re one of the best in the SC circles…what’s your favourite Dennis moment? Favourite commentary call?

        1. Jeez Spoon. You butter me up and then drop a doozy of a question on me. Well, I’m glad you did. Not because I’ve got the answer at my fingertips but because it gave me the opportunity to Google some Cometti-isms (I guess that means the answer WAS at my fingertips). Here’s some that had me laughing out loud:

‘Scotty Cummings alone in the square, jumping up and down and waving his arms like they’re playing My Sharona …’

‘Spider had both his legs taken out from under him – leaving only the other six to balance on …’

“Ball to Barker to Barlow – The Hawks are attacking alphabetically”

“Cousins, runs away from Carr … not the first time we’ve seen that this season”

“The Hawks play modern football, with 60’s haircuts…..they’re my kind of team.”

The start of 2007 was a public relations
disaster for West Coast and, in turn, the
AFL. In the space of a week, controversial
rule changes such as the in-the-back rule
were dwarfed by much larger issues:
‘The AFL remains determined to rid
the game of pushers. On and off
          the field.’

‘The best way to describe Steven Baker
is that he’s like cigarette smoke on
          your jacket.’

          And one for Motts:
The 2007 NAB Cup Grand Final produced
a surprise winner when 2006 wooden
          spooners, Carlton, defeated Brisbane. This
was played the night before the Australian
          F1 Grand Prix.
          ‘Remarkably, the Blues will become
the only team capable of winning the
million dollar premiership bonus. To put
it in perspective, it’s like a Leyland P76
          winning at Albert Park tomorrow.’

The last few come from a book called, “That’s Ambitious” by the man himself. Well worth the $17.95.

Do yourselves a favour and look up Den quotes – priceless! I owe you one Spoon!

          0

          0
      1. Here’s the one I owe:
“I wonder what the team psychologist will make of that. Tuck dropped that mark and immediately shouted out his own surname.”

  4. 162/2/n. Vince and cooney. Vince is really testing my patience, he gets disposals but with 60% efficency. Really annoying

  5. 345/3 N. Coons, BBBH, and good to see Gia finally get going. Glad I put Danger on the pine, but hope Browny plays as Danger is my emerg.

  6. There was the funniest call by Tim lane last year , collingwood v. melbourne match, where he said ” and Sylvia gets a hanfdfull of Dick” lol haha

  7. All this reminds me of a time when I was listening to a game called by Rex Hunt. Not sure what he saw out on the field, but he called a passage of play like this – “[insert player’s name] kicks it long and clear out of danger . . . bouncing . . . bouncing . . . out on the full.”

  8. Another beauty from malcom blight “Cousins, Judd and Kerr in the centre…with Cox” haha. So many jokes you make with dean cox.

  9. My favourites:

“Banging away like Charlie Watts” – used whenever a player is caught underneath and is trying to hit the ball out when it is pinned to him.

and once when commentating with Dermott Brereton:

    DC: “King to Ling”
    DB: “…on the wing”
    DC: “don’t you start”

    1. The Ablett mark
Rex “Yyyyaaaaaabbbbbllllleeetttttt, they didn’t go that high when they went to the moon!”
with Sam Newman in the background just saying “Oh no, no, nope.

      0

  10. I love Commetti’s call when a player rarely misses a shot for goal – “Like Matthew McConaughey at a singles bar, he can’t miss!”

By the way 235/3/N – Goodwin, Danger (grr) and BBBH 🙂

Just to stay on the topic at hand

  11. I was watching the 2003 Grand Final the other night which comes with the 3AW commentary track which consists of Taylor, Brayshaw, Brereton and Newman.

There was an incident involving Ben Johnson and Shaun Hart (who wore protective headgear) after a big bump on Johnson, Hart in Brayshaw’s words ‘massaged Johnson’s ribs after he picked himself up’.

Later on in the quarter Johnson would catch up with Hart and Brayshaw was on the ball ‘Johnson has just repayed Hart for massaging his ribs by massaging his helmet in that last contest’

… there was a slight pause before Sam Newman responded:

‘And just how often do you suppose Hart gets his helmet massaged Jim?’

Even BT couldn’t maintain his composure after that one…

At the conclusion of the half Dermie was giving his analysis imploring the Collingwood players to weather the storm and not to panic despite being mauled the previous hour or so to which Sam responded…

‘Well if I were them I’d panic… right about now!’

Two classic calls… I’ll watch the second half later on in the weekend to capture some more gems!

      1. I notice you placed J Brown on the bench Motts… must be very confident he won’t play or have some good inside word.
I must admit the more I read/hear I would be surprised if he did play.

471/5/N We are in for a ring a ding battle

    1. Don’t you asterisk that Y up, PA. There’s no such thing as accidents at this level, mate. And I’m sure you’re not going to admit to being an amateur.

      0

      0
      1. To be truthful Mottsy, this is the 2nd year of SC for me and last year i was just mucking around with my mates, this year I’ve taken a bit more seriously. If someone told me what is the break even for a player, I’ll just look at them sideways.

  12. 483/5/n. ROK (VC),lecras,cooney,vince and kennely
Words cannot express how dissapointed i am at LeCras woeful performance- got bloody 13! did he get injured or something? what the hell happened?
and what about kennelly?? he gets 24 disposals, 88% efficency and only 95…you would expect with that performance that he would crack the ton!

bloody frustrating, the lot of them except for ROK.

    0

    0
    1. Lecca got no favours from the men in white today. Imo he was illegally manhandled in many contests… little pushes, little holds smacks in the head when marking. The swannies very adept with theses tactics. He did have a rare off day kicking for goal tho

      0

      0
        1. Wish he didn’t now! Would have got more points from my emerg (Dangerfield) Oh well, still winning my match.

  15. happy with trengove 129 he is an emaergency but mitchell wont play so stoked with that and saints and lions have lost so it opens the door for fremantle to flog richmond and go to the top of ladder know one would of predicted that at the start of the season

    0

    0
    1. Good outcome with Trengove. I traded him this week for Gilbee who got 113. Will be angry when I see how much JT goes up by after that performance.

      0

      1. yer it was piss poor he should not of played u had him on the bench anyway so u will be happy but u wont be happy when u see how much his price falls

        0

        0
        1. just a question motts.
scott selwood 47 this week at 310 price tag
martin matner 65 this week 404 price tag
would it just be better to play goose off the bench for one of them or trade one of them out for an enright/grundy to really strenghten my backline.

          0

          0
          1. I have man love for Enright. He’s a backman who will deliver for you all year. If you can afford him, get him. Out of Mattner and Selwood, I’d trade the latter.

            0

      1. 1039/12/Coons* Hopefully Joseph puts the clamps on GAJ this Monday, I actually might have a stiff of a upset then.

  16. 931/11/GAJ

Not too happy this week with some prformaces. Have Trengrove on the bench, so hopefully ball eats a dodgy kebab overnight!

  17. 778/8/GAJ Wish Milne had a game like that last week! Hopefully the Dockers can flog Richmond and go to the top!! 🙂 The old Brown for Roo trades hurting a few of us so far, he’ll come good though!

  18. 830/11/GAJ with ROK as vc. Macdonald will be in the gun this week, I’ve persisted with him and I really thought that he would step up this week against his old side but no it wasn’t to be. 68 points from about 25 disposals with 89% efficiency including 1 clanger and 3 tackles. WTF?? He should have scored higher.
Also mcdonalds 51points with an amazing 9 clangers didn’t help either.

    0

    0
  19. 1202/13/GAJ

Rucks are annoying, Dal & Murph were awful, and I dropped JT to the bench, yet, I’m tracking alright @ this stage. I’m ahead in all 3 matches and 2200 is not out of the question.

    Hodge/Silvagni/GAJ/Swan/Penders/Barlow/Bastinac/Balla & Delic to finish.

    0

    0
  20. It’s good to see they’ve stopped doubling the VC’s score before the Captain has played. It was both annoying, and it made the ‘Around the Grounds’ function misleading.

    0

    0
  21. 121012/y Rok only getting 1 touch in the last quarter has convinced me that he will not be the big C again.was going to go for hodgey but loyalty to the Kangas stopped me from doing so.Will probably rack up a massive score against us today.hard to cheer a player who is captain of your SC team when he pulling down your pants of the team you support.

  22. Ok guys who is your ANZAC day medal winner, Pick a player from both clubs who you think will win. Essendon – Watson Collingwood – Swan

    0

    0
    1. Some weird crap going on with my mouse and keyboard (or maybe the server didn’t like my use of ‘less-than’ and ‘more-than’ signs) – that should read: 3 players less than or equal to 51, 9 players greater than or equal to 91.

Oh yeah, and for you Motts: *

      0

      0
  23. essendon are fucked that knights is a dick and needs to fuck off he cant coach for shit, half the list dont even no how to play. HOOKER is the biggest dud of all time, surly id a team kicks 7 goals in a ROW then u must put some one back but knights dont no how to

    0

    0
      1. THE WORST UMPIRING I HAVE SEEN. COLLINGWOOD ARE PLAYING WITH 23 PLAYERS. BUT U CANT TAKE AWAY THE FACT ESSENDON ARE THE NEW RICHMOND

        0

        0
    1. I agree knights must go and go soon, he does not have a coaching brain. No one from essendon is running i feel sorry for watson, Hille and the younger one’s

  24. Just wondering how people rate Simon Goodwin. I put him in my side based on his pre season form and premium status but his last scores have been ordinary. I dont want to break the cardinal rule of trading premiums but I didnt realise he was 33, at 33 is he still a premium? If it was anyone else I would wait it out but im beginning to think at 33 is he coming to the end?

    0

    0
    1. i got him and im keeping him
if the crows can find some form he can score well
paid too much for him tho
but who’d guess the crows 0-5

      0

      0
      1. I’ve got him too and I don’t think it has anything to do with his age. The way the SC scoring system is scaled towards the winning team, once the Crows begin winning (hopefully at some stage this year) his scores will improve. His clangers have been up in the past two games which is probably due to the extra attention/pressure in the back half without Bock and Stevens. Pavlich was in the same boat at Rd 5 last year and came good as premiums do.

        0

        0
  25. Well done Motts and ssss for predicting the medalist – you managed to do, pregame, what the Ch7 commentators couldn’t, after they had watched the entire match.

  26. 1410/15/GAJ
Wasn’t expecting Swan to dud it up, but, at least Pendles shone and the pies won.
    Hodge/Silvagni/GAJ/Barlow/Bastinac/Balla & Delic to finish.

  27. 863/10/n im hopefull i will get too the 2200 and retain my average

    1. Was a pretty silly move to make jonno brown capt this week tho u have to admit. With his groin injury and doubts that he’ll even play.

      0

  28. 1240/12/ROK. Wasn’t the best choice of capt either for myself, but doing ok so far this week, with boomer, hodge, pav, selwood, enright, sandi and gibbs still to play

  29. 1527/17/GAJ

Looking a bit rough this week. Hope to get over 2100, but could be doubtfull unless GAJ has 50 possies and 9 goals. Maybe around 2000 mark.

Altho, am above or break evenish in my 3 leagues.

Pav/ Barlow/ Martin / GAJ and Enright to come.

    0

    1. Forgot to mention, the Hawks/ Roos game has pulled me out of the shit.
Franklin, Hodge (expected), Harvey and WELLS all over 100+. Hopefully tiges-dockers game can be similar!

The campaign is getting worse and worse. Is 2000 a bridge too far???

Rioli has been a massive disappointment, what am I to do with him?

    0

    0
    1. If you traded him for Voldt, think you have to hold on to him. Hopefully you would have upgraded to a premium somewhere else.

If you’ve had him from the start, then might be time to ditch him.

      0

      0
      1. I traded Volt & Medhurst for him & Reg Grundy. I think I might have to keep him for now and hope that he comes good.

  31. 1277/15/GAJ
having a absolute shocker this week so far
NDS, Swan, JB and Rio Retard Rioli have been disappointing.
Hoping the likes of Gazza, Selwood, Chappy, Hunt, Enright Barlow and Martin can carry me past the 2000 mark.

  32. 1871/20/GAJ
My last 7 players have all gone 100+. Just GAJ and Enright to come.

I think anywhere between 2000-2250 is possible, all depends on the man.

    1. 1877/19/Y

Should be close Jo aka PA. I’m playing “No talent” & has GAJ as Capt so will be sweating on a sub 120 game.
Should have gone with Gangaleylands as capt instead of Coon his 100 point 3rd qtr was huge and again played much of the game.

          1. All this Nose/sniffing talk will make Cousins itch for a big homecoming tonight in the west. The Ice Man will leave his phone on.
See you in Round 9 PA

            0

            0
          2. PA/Joe – can not tell how you would have mixed up Coondod with Hedgehog so suck up the consequences!!!
I’m struggling with the first “populist choice of Delish given I asked several times how his OP was going. BL is that I should have gone the premium PAV.

            0

            0
          3. DPP, Deano that’s how. With Delish I said it was going to like a roller coaster, this just happens to be at the bottom so take your own advise and suck it, Champ.

  34. 1874/21/GAJ
GAJ needs to save the campaign. Some woeful performances this we including this coach putting Maguire/Trengove on the bench instead of Silvagni/Bastinac. Thats 150 or so points I’ve cost myself @ the selection table. Maybe I need to trade myself in this week!! ( :

    0

  35. 1750/19/G – my chalk/cheese weekend continues with 5 players scoring 52 or less and 13 with 91 or more. H-Mac split the difference – he really should’ve smashed it considering Hawthorn’s dearth of ruckmen.

  37. 1353/15/GAJ

Opponents in the 3 leagues I’m in have:
Dobbo: 1564/17/GAJ (I need Enright and Pods to score 212 between them)
PA: 1643/18/Y (Confident of a win here)
stevo: 1360/15/GAJ (Need Selwood and Krooz to outscore Chapman and Yarran by 8 points – should happen right?)

Selwood & Kruz VS Chappy & Yarran
It is going down to the wire! Yarran to have a blinder (I hope)

  39. 1818/19/n happy with that considering I have Le Cras (13) Bastinac (28)

Have GAJ Pods and Enright to come.

  40. 1503/17/GAJ. im currently trailing by 223, but my opponent has waite, gibbs and kreuzer still to go. I still have Enright, Ablett, Bartel, Chapman and Podsiadly, so I’m hoping they can score around 100 each to get me over the line. I’m quietly confident…but we will have to see how i go…im still hopeful of getting over 2000

  41. ended up with 2186, not too bad considering i made shocking benching decisions e.g bastinac on martin off, silvagni on maguire off….some good scores though, including ablett 😀 WHAT A CHAMPION!!! i ended up winning 2 of 3 leagues…

    1. Your backline’s strong and will usually score more points than it did this week. But I’d trade in Gwilt for a rookie. Then upgrade Cotchin for a premium (GAJ if you can). Hayes should come good eventually, it depends how many trades you have left. Your rucks and forward line look good, but Brown as your Captain would have cost you big time. Next year, do some research to ensure your bench players will get games early, but it’s not too late.

  46. looking to get Judd in my team but not sure who to trade him for, out of Swan, Selwood or NDS who would you trade?

    0

    0
    1. None they are all not performing that bad that you would consider trade any of them, you’d be burning a trade IMO.

      0

      0
    2. Personally I wouldn’t blow a trade on 3 premiums that would normally get 100+ (I know Swan and Selwood will come good eventually after their below average start). Get Judd later in the year when you downgrade a draft that has peeked in price, then upgrade a mid-range, hope it helps.

      1. thanks, i won’t be trading any of them at the moment.

Whats everyone’s thoughts on Cyril Rioli should i be thinking about trading him?

  1. If PA was feeling disenchanted after the fallout from the LEESAGATE scandal, he will need to break out the blood pressure pills to cope with BBBBH’s performance tonight after trading him out during the week! Consolation as a Bully’s supporter though.

  15. happy with trengove 129 he is an emaergency but mitchell wont play so stoked with that and saints and lions have lost so it opens the door for fremantle to flog richmond and go to the top of ladder know one would of predicted that at the start of the season

  20. It’s good to see they’ve stopped doubling the VC’s score before the Captain has played. It was both annoying, and it made the ‘Around the Grounds’ function misleading.

  21. 1210\12/y Rok only getting 1 touch in the last quarter has convinced me that he will not be the big C again.was going to go for hodgey but loyalty to the Kangas stopped me from doing so.Will probably rack up a massive score against us today.hard to cheer a player who is captain of your SC team when he pulling down your pants of the team you support.

  22. Ok guys who is your ANZAC day medal winner, Pick a player from both clubs who you think will win. Essendon – Watson Collingwood – Swan

  23. essendon are fucked that knights is a dick and needs to fuck off he cant coach for shit, half the list dont even no how to play. HOOKER is the biggest dud of all time, surly id a team kicks 7 goals in a ROW then u must put some one back but knights dont no how to

  28. 1240/12/ROK.

Rioli has been a massive disappointment, what am I to do with him?

  31. 1277/15/GAJ
having a absolute shocker this week so far
NDS, Swan, JB and Rio Retard Rioli have been disappointing.
Hoping the likes of Gazza, Selwood, Chappy, Hunt, Enright Barlow and Martin can carry me past the 2000 mark.

  32. 1871/20/GAJ
My last 7 players have all gone 100+. Just GAJ and Enright to come.

I think anywhere between 2000-2250 is possible, all depends on the man.

  34. 1874/21/GAJ
GAJ needs to save the campaign. Some woeful performances this w\e including this coach putting Maguire/Trengove on the bench instead of Silvagni/Bastinac. Thats 150 or so points I’ve cost myself @ the selection table. Maybe I need to trade myself in this week!! ( :

  35. 1750/19/G – my chalk/cheese weekend continues with 5 players scoring 52 or less and 13 with 91 or more.

  40. 1503/17/GAJ. im currently trailing by 223, but my opponent has waite, gibbs and kreuzer still to go.
