Punters Club – Old Mate Geoff

Written by Motts on October 13 2015

Old Mate Geoff is on the Caulfield Cup this week with a roving banker trifecta. I’ll let TDA take up the story in the email he sent to me last night:

“Geoff has done a couple of hours of research and watched the Barrier Draw. He fancies Number 6 Mongolian Khan to run in the top 3 with it never being beaten at the 2400 Metre Caulfield cup trip and favourable Barrier Number 9 that could move up to barrier 6 if the Emergencies don’t get a run.

So he wants a $50 Trifecta With Number 6 as the standout to run 1st , 2nd or 3rd. He wants to box 9 horses with it or really the top 9 Fancies who can all run 1st , 2nd , or 3rd but Mongolian Khan must run in the top 3. The 9 horses are 2 , 3 , 5 , 10 , 12 , 14 , 16 , 17 and the emergency number 20 Complacent.

So basically it is 3 Trifectas in one. 6 Mongolian Khan To win with the 9 horses for 2nd and 3rd. The other 9 horses for 1st with the 6 Mongolian Khan for 2nd and the other 9 horses for 3rd. Lastly the other 9 Horses for 1st and 2nd with the 6 Mongolian Khan for 3rd. Hope you get all that it is quite conservative by Geoff in IMO but if Mongolian Runs 2nd or 3rd and one of the 10-1 to 17-1 get up it should be an Ok collect.

Also we don’t want a big roughie that we don’t have to bob up and finish 3rd.

Geoff said thanks for the offer of the 3 tote odds but will stick with the biggest pool which is the VIC tote odds.”

Good luck to us all!

  1. Cheers Motts.

I would like to just point out if Geoffs 9 other winning chances get widdled down to 8 if Complacent does not get a run the percentage on the Trifecta will go up.
So 1 by 8 by 7 – 3 times gives 168 combinations as the same horse can’t run say 2nd and 3rd. Then the $50 into 168 will give us 29.76%.

  2. Fully concur with Geoff. Big run by Mongolian Khan last week, he’s the one to beat. Don’t mind the look of Kinglake, Under The Louvre and Sabatini either…….Each Way all day. Good luck guys!!

  3. Hi all,

Personal opinion, but I think MK is way too short – $4.80 doesn’t present much value

    I’d keep an eye on:

Hauraki – only lost to MK by a head in the Derby, 2kg swing
Snow Sky – good/firm ground lover, can lead / on speed. Value at $11.
?? Fame Game – 2400m a bit too short for it, does not have the same form as Admire Ratki around the 2400m mark (question mark)
Rising Romance – better off at the weights, better barrier draw compared to the direct 2nd last year

    Would consider boxing
    2, 6, 12, 14, 17 for the tri

  4. For anyone that punts with Will Hill they’ve got a promotion running at the moment which I’ve been cashing in on over the last 2 weeks.

For the first 4 races at Caulfield on Saturday, place a fixed odds win bet on a horse and if it finishes in the first half of the field you get your money back to a maximum of $25.

My 4 bets this week are:
    R1 – Andrioli
    R2 – Santa Ana Lane
    R3 – Kinglike
    R4 – Ambience

  5. Traditionally I don’t do much good Caulfield Cup day meeting.

I will have a couple of Trifectas.

I do like 3 duets though where your 2 horses can finish anyway in the top 3. Had a bit of luck getting the 2 I put on last week.

Here they are Race 5 Number 1 Lizard Island & Number 13 Sacred Eye also have it in Star stable.

Race 6 Number 2 Dibayani and Number 6 Sadlers Lake.

Finally one with some good value Race 8 Number 6 Sabitini & Number 12 Jesse Belle also have it in Star stable.

I have brought in 3 Caulfield Cup runners for Star stable Mongolian Khan as champion , Fame Game mainly for the Melbourne Cup and Hauraki using a wildcard.

  6. Had the right idea Geoff, too bad mate. Great ride by Opie Bosson, gave MK every chance and the horse did the rest.
I’m a big Chautauqua fan, he should win again on Friday night (will be short-priced fav). Before the Caulfield Stakes, I put some doubles on through the Cox Plate with Criterion, Winx and Fawkner. Hoping for some luck there…….
