Quick Reminder

by Motts on April 6, 2010

If you do plan on trading this week leave it until Thursday night. Players values are not going to change between now and then and they could miss out on selection for any one of a number of reasons: injury at training, infection (see M McVeigh) or they may just fall over in the bathroom on a Tuesday and fracture their skull (right, Mr Gibson?).

And I’ve gotta give a quick shout-out to Justine and Richard who I met around a teppanyaki bar on Sunday night. These guys are SERIOUS supercoaches who think nothing of sleeping in til 2pm, turning on the TV in the bedroom, firing up fanfooty and then watching a match from bed with the stats in front of them throwing in the occasional bourbon for good measure as they watch. Respect.

Just wondering how many coaches are planning to downgrade an underperforming ruckman to Seaby, then using the profit to upgrade an underperforming forward?

I reckon there’s a lot of us.

I’m thinking of swapping Tippy for Seaby for the f/l upgrade (Walker for Ballantyne) but, I also like the idea of straight swapping for Kreuzer.

I’m wondering whether Seaby will continue to increase in value, or if last week was a one off.

You’re right, PA, in an ideal world we’d all be sitting at the laptop at 5pm on a Friday waiting for Sunday’s teams to come out with our mouses hovering over the T next to names of players we’re about to usher out the back door. Unfortunately many people find other activities demand their attention at that time of the week which was why I suggested Thursday evenings above. The point remains the same: don’t trade early in the week!

I am thinking of taking Seaby for Clark… A big call, and have to determien whether the trade is worth it – at the stage I am leaning ehavily, because then I have the choice of Cox/Sandilands at about Round 6 for either Seaby or Hille (depending on form)… And if Clark bounces back, I’ll still make the cash from Seaby but will cost me 2 trades.
Kicking myself because I had Seaby and Sandilands in my team at one point, and went the gamble on Clark after his outstanding NAB Cup results.
Any thoughts?

Yeah definitely waiting till friday to make my trades. Though its just so hard! really wanna make the trades now! :)

These are my two options (i have 28k in bank)
1. Backline bench trade M.Farmer for Silvagni – free’s up 76,100. Then with that and the money in bank trade Tippet for J Brown.

2. Make two forward line trades. As this is my weekest spot. Trade Hall down to Ballantyne and Tippet up to Brown.

Thoughts?

I know it’s not the smartest thing to do this early in the week, but I’ve already traded out Jolly and Tippett. Just seeing their names on my team sheet boils my blood . . . getting rid of them as soon as I could was the closest thing to giving them a spray (I don’t have their phone numbers).

I reckon its a good trade, and, that you’ll score more points in 2 positions.
I’ve heard that Tippy has a knee, so, I am certainly going to trade him, am leaning toward Seaby (as opposed to Kruezer).
If Seaby continues to appreciate there is the opportunity to trade him for Cox in about 4 weeks when he is match fit, and cheaper.

I need advice. I’m new to this and I have in my forward line T. Rockcliff, J. Podsladly and R. Gray. All of which are yet to put up any points. I made similar mistakes and chose players which weren’t selected and so have already used two trades.
This means that this week I missed out on having a forward position rack up any points. Am I best to make a trade now, or wait it out?

Yeah? Ok will hold out on that one. But what are your thoughts on getting rid of Gray for someone cheaper who is performing well, so as to free up cash to trade Pav for O’Keefe?
Is it too soon to be making such trades?

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

Pav is in the bracket of players that once you’ve picked them, stick with them unless they’re injured. Form and scores, for any player, will fluctuate but for the upper echelon, their scores will eventually average out to 100+. He is a proven performer – stick with him and save your trades for making cash from rookies and upgrading mid-level players (not to mention dreaded injuries).

That all sounds very good in theory, but I truly understand the frustrations that go with piss-poor performances from players you forked out big-time for. Believe me, my mouse is firmly poised over a couple of ‘T’ icons.

Do i trade out Deledio for Dangerfield which then frees up cash so i can trade out Ziebell for Brown.
Or should i stick with Ziebell. then swap Deledio for say cross and then maybe trade out ball?
p.s. i’m gonna stick with harvey who will bounce back and also stick with tippy who is in my ruck so i can’t swap him for brown…

You seem to have it in for Deledio (or he’s injured and I don’t know it yet). I had him last year and, yes, there were times I was frustrated with him and others where he saved my bacon. Like I said about Pav (above), once you pick a player from this price-bracket, you stick with them because they wear that price-tag for a reason.

If I was had to pick one, I’d pick Goodwin. Best is behind him, the others will definately bounce back. None more so that Boomer! Terrible game and he knows it, not looking forward to the show he’s going to put on against my boys this week!!

Ball may be the other option, looked like he had lead plates in his boots after half time against the Dees, I’d expect him to get a rocket up him this week though and come good against the Saints.

Hmm I went the option of picking Goodwin over Goddard so I could slot another premium defender in (Drummond), and seeing Goodwin played four solid games in preseason looked to justify his selection. Not too happy with his performances so far, but I reckon keep the faith with him, when Adelaide start playing decent footy, expect his contribution to rise.

I think it could be the same with Tippett. The crows are just that bad, it’s effecting the overall cohesiveness of the team, and thus the SC scores. I’m avoiding all crows players for the time being as well as roos players.

Last year Swallow was B&F, but his scores were ok at best. And believe me, I was lucky trading him into my team last year just when he really got going, but then tapered off towards the end. To me, all this says that North are up the creek with no paddles.

Got a couple of points here boys…

First of all, I couldn’t look at Kirt Tippett once more in my forward line so he’s been ousted with Big Roughy taking his spot. I know it’s only Tuesday, but he’s really dissapointed me so far after promising to be the revelation of the year up forward!

Secondly, I’m having a massive heart/head crisis with Benny Cousins. Now, I’ve got the power on my bench to cover for him being injured so that’s not really a concern. My problem is deciding whether or not to trade him out for someone like Barlow (my #2 ranked Cash Cow from last month’s article – Big tick on that one!) and use the extra cash to trade up another forward or stick fat with him, when he plays he scores very well and is worth every cent.

Benny’s been in every one of my SC teams since I started out, has been a solid contributor, more than solid actually, averaging mid-high 90′s at least. But has the time come to part ways with the great man? I’ve already had to accept that Richo won’t be my big marking forward this year, I’m not sure that I can cope with losing Cuzz aswell!

Someone talk me into some sense..!

If you don’t have Barlow, you need to get him no matter what, you’ll probably find he’ll average higher than Cousins come season end anyway and will make you a fair lot of dough… Get Barlow before this weekend’s lockout or you will miss out big time!

I’m with you, Mike. TRADES ARE GOLD. Everybody needs to weigh up whether the cash increase they will make is worth the trade they will burn making that cash. Personally, I’ll be giving blokes another chance this week. Tippett and the Crows play Melbourne this week. You’d think that would be an opportunity for him to bag a few.

I do agree though, that if you don’t have Barlow you would we well advised to get him in before the end of the week. He’s scoring like there’s no tomorrow so you might as well get him in now because he won’t ever be this price again. Ever.

FINALLY SOMEONE IS MAKING SENSE!!!! trades are gold, and there is no point in dongrading keepers for cash cows- u put them in ur team for a reason- y trade them after 2 weeks? hardly worth it…. tippett will come good, as soon as adelaide improve so will he….the only trades u should be making this early are to bring in rookies that u missed e.g barlow and silvagni, or any players with long term injuries.

TRADING SIDEWAYS IS USELESS!!!!

that is all.

Great advice. However I have Gray in my team. Should I wait it out and hope he performs well? I have all the reserves needed Martin, Barlow, Silvangi, etc however my forward line is lacking power with Hitchcock and Gumbleton [And Gray still injured].

I also want to get a strong team for the first few weeks of the league I’m in as I am vs’ing the majourity of the higher scorers and will have the opportunity to save trades later.

—> I also have 40k and need another 35 to at least trade Gray. I was wondering if perhaps trading Hooker for Malceski would be a good option.

My other option b/c I have a strong backline bench is to do Hooker for Silvagni trade and pocket $220.

Anyone have opinions on these three players? What is Hookers role? will he get anough good touches to top the 100 point mark? When will Silvagni go back onto the Rookie list? Is Malceski good enough to be a top liner?

The latest version (FFGenie2010.2) has been released which includes the first 2 rounds’ scores, break-evens, expected price rises, averages, standard deviations, bank interest rates, Kevin Sheedy’s taxable income and the national debt of Malawi. Download it at http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffgenie/files/

It doesn’t require a Masters degree but it can be a tad overwhelming to start with. There’s step-by-step at http://ffgenie.webs.com/tutorial.htm

Thoughts on Ball>Cooney?
I could wait 1 more week to see if ball lives up to his pre season expectations by getting at least 100+ and wait 1 more week also to see if Cooney can reproduce another 170 performance because his 1st round performance aint too good. But then again if i dont trade this round and ball does shocking and his price goes down to 350-400k, and cooney does a stunner and gets another 150+. He would then be 500k+ thats going to take 2 trades to bring him in instead of ball, rather than trading now straight up because theres only a 30k diff in price between them now and i have 30k.

Like many others I’m looking to offload Tippett before he plummets in value. The obvious trade is a straight out with Kruez, who is looking like he is going to have a good year. And the other option I am considering is going for Seaby instead and upgrading Gray for either ROK or big J Brown. Although I have a few concerns about whether Seaby can maintain his form, and also whether it is a good idea using 2 trades this early in the season to get rid of players that are still on the park.

What does everyone think is the smartest move??

Will stick by Ball, Pav and Harvey. They’re in for the season, therefore, I won’t lose money on them!

Jolly and Tippett are set to lose BIG $$$’s! I think Jolly will be in the ball park of $50-80k, Tippett $30-60k.
