This has nothing to do with chess, Pakistan or backpacks but on the back of TWR’s story today I’ve been inspired to regale you with a sporting tale of my own.
Vitas Gerulaitis had a streak where he lost to Bjorn Borg something like 43 times in a row on the tennis pro circuit. The next time he played him he actually managed to get a win. A reporter asked him how it felt to finally beat Borg and he lowered his voice and said “let me tell you something: NO ONE beats Vitas Gerulaitis 44 times straight!”

Gold – if only Leyton knew that story after finally triumphing over Rog last week for the first time since 2003 (9 consecutive losses I think), he might have been able to connect with the Aussie sporting public on a more plausable level.

67/1/GAJ. My opponent this week scored 33 less than me last week, including my loss of Brown (he hasn’t got him) so I was a bit worried this week (kept Brown played Gumbles
). Logged on to see he made Hodge captain this week instead of GAJ. Made me very happy! 
On the downside I had a lazy 50 each way last week on Hodge for the Brownlow.

Would reckon he’d have the Freo count covered now after tonight.
Even when he gets the hard tag by the best in the business (Ling/Jones) he scores mid 50s and 80s in his 3rd and 4th AFL matches. There’s no way he can win but there should (and I’m sure will be) investigations at every club as to how this bloke was not picked up earlier. He is different to any other successful mature age rookie draftee – think Broughton, Taylor, Anthony (althought the latter is almost comparable on stats) in that he has come in and been instantly ELITE and a match winner in a developing team.

You’d think Essendon will be kicking themselves given that Barlow spent time @ Windy Hill in the off-season and they didn’t take him.
That said, there were knocks on Barlow’s game which he has ironed out after being drafted by Freo. He wasn’t the stand out player in the VFL last season.

The fixturing of the split rd is almost as bad as the knee jerk reaction the Andrew/Adrian Circus has served up in relation the the Joey Johns League debacle last week.
- no Sat arvo game this week but concurrent night games so you can’t watch both live;
- no games in Vic next weekend (and I live in WA.)
Demetriou’s statement as to the “stupid comments at those stupid sportsmen’s nights” only highlights his self serving insulation in the AFL Ivory Tower and lack of connection with real life community footy clubs and associations who rely on these fundraising events to survive as they do not have a $1.7M salary to call on. Its curious how all of a sudden these events are “stupid” when it is playing contemporaries of our unelected leader who have been earning a livelihood from them for the past 25 years under his nose!
In no way am i condoning vilification of any kind however each individual situation needs to be assessed in context and on merit.
Am excited about the Socceroos’ chances tonight as there’s no way I can end up as low as last Mon am.

I look to have Duck covered which is very satisfying but some of the performances on the weekend have left a lot to be desired. Hodge and Pavlich weren’t good but Adam Cooney’s 56 takes the cake. the points are weighted as effective and innefective, whether theryre short or long kicks, to a contest, contested and uncontested possies and stuff like that. Unless you can get the full 56 scoring ways, it’s impossible to calculate- leave it to the pros haha
