R17 Captain

Written by Duck on July 19 2013

No poll this week, lets let the thumbs up and down do the voting.

With GCS playing Collingwood my usual S.P into G.A or vice versa can’t happen, I’ll rely on Pendes to score well and take what comes to me.

But, what combos are you looking at? Whack your VC into C in the comments and let the others judge accordingly.

  1. I’m well aware of Ablett’s 53 touches last year. This time around, I’m taking into account the ‘Macaffer Effect’. Not so sure he’ll go over 120 this time. I’ll be taking Griffen as VC against Hawthorn. Hawks don’t really tag and why should they? They’ll probably win big but I’m hoping Gryffindore gets a stack of disposals in a losing side. Sticking with Pendles as C. Lack of taggers from the Suns and a big win for the Pies. Thoughts?

  2. Pendles VC
    into
    Selwood C

The little Master looks like he is carrying something…

    And Pendles is ON FIRE!!!

  3. Gazza hasn’t dropped a monster since round 12, he’s gotta be due. Has 130 average against them over the last 3 with a 155 last time they met. Also has a 130avg at Metricon.

Pendles 109 average against the suns in the 2 meetings they’ve had.

Pretty stiff to not give The little master the C this week if you ask me.

  4. Worst game scenario when usual 3 capt locks are in same game. I would like to say Cox into someone but that’s just rude. So for me its Pendles Into Selwood.

  5. Goldstein VC
    GAJ C

I basically always use a Friday night player for the V as it’s no certainty I’ll get a chance to play it fine through the weekend.

  6. After reading these comments, GAJ is getting the VC nod with a loophole consideration TBD.

  7. Was thinking GAJ as VC into Goddard as C – bit risky, but without Jobe Goddard is spending more time in the middle and could rack up some big numbers vs. GWS.

  8. I think we need to trust that Gazza gets the job done, either way you have to have loophole them in the small chance they have a shocker or get knocked out early on.

  9. I’m putting the VC on Pendlebury because:

    A) He is in ripping form. A lazy 139.2 average from his last five with back-to-back 150’s.

    B) Gold Coast, unlike GWS, can’t and/or don’t tag well

    C) There is a chance Macaffer plays on Ablett and a small chance he plays well.

*As an aside, I’m not sure if they will tag Ablett. Last week they chose not the send Caff to Dangerfield, rather starting him forward and allowing the midfield to go head-to-head against the Crows. Collingwood also chose not to send Marty Clarke (who was the designated tagger) to him last season, allowing Daisy to beat him going the other way and, despite his 53 touches, it worked for them as most considered Thomas to be the more influential of the players that day.

    D) The numbers on Pendlebury are a touch misleading. Remember his 95 last season against them? Doesn’t sound too great? Well he broke is leg four minutes into the game, spent over 10 minutes on the bench in the first quarter and then was subbed out at half time! He played a quarter and a half, most of it on a broken leg and he scored 95!

Pendlebury gets the VC from me, but I don’t really think that you can go wrong with any of him, Ablett or Swan.

*Another aside here, how much do you think fantasy football will benefit the TV audience for this game? Every man and his dog will have his C or VC in this game and I’m tipping thousands will tune in just to see how they travel.

I don’t think that I will need the C after this game but if I do, it’s a toss up between the in-form Selwood and the back-into-the-midfield Rockliff against the Demons (113, 107, 139, 163 and 107 in his last five against them) and had 147 last week back in the guts.

  10. It’s a bit left field, but I’m thinking of whacking the C on Wati Holmwood. He spent 12 months getting in shape for this week. And he’s in great form..

  11. Pendles (VC) Rockcliff (C)

Pendles is a lock as preferred captain but more than happy to have loophole captain backup of Rockcliff with both Black & Moloney still injured.

  12. I’m thinking Pendles. Been in consistently red hot form and I reckon Macaffer will go to GAJ. What about Pendles VC > Rockliff C?

  13. Pendles vc, stevie j providing the loophole. How dare north, doggies and even essendon (injectington) play early.

    Joelwood plan b as c.
