Rare Gems – Rd16

Written by Schwarzwalder on July 7 2017

A different look at the Rare Gems this week………..I’ll be looking at players that could provide handy loophole coverage for the last eight weeks of the season.  Whether it be at D7, M9, R3 or F7, there is something for everyone here.  Consider it a mix of ‘Movers & Shakers’ with a touch of Rare Gems about it.

DEFENDERS

Shaun Burgoyne (HAW) – Silk has roared back into form over the last month with scores of 123, 113 & 144 as the Hawks start to find their feet again.  Burgoyne averaged 113 over the last eight weeks of 2016 and is owned by just 1.9% of Coaches.  Massive POD to have at D6/D7 with a big ceiling that only few DEFs possess.

MIDFIELDERS

Lachie Whitfield (GWS) – Having served his suspension over the first two months, Whitfield has come back with a bang!  Over the last four weeks, he’s managed  112, 117, 111 & 130.  With the Giants ever-growing injury list, job security is solid and the midfielder is in just 1.5% of all teams.  Still priced at an affordable $525k, Whitfield would be a welcome addition for many as bench cover/emergency loophole.

RUCKS

Sean Darcy (FRE) – After this Round, Darcy will be far from a Rare Gem 😉  The rarity would be using Darcy at R2 until seasons end.  The big fella managed 99pts against the Saints last week after Sandilands went down with injury early.  If you believe he can repeat those figures for the next eight weeks then it’ll free up plenty of cash for loophole options elsewhere.  At $117k he’ll be a popular guy this week with the trade options.

FORWARDS

Patrick Ryder (PTA) – Has been one of the highest scoring FWDs over the last three weeks with an avg of 110.6.  Ryder is the undisputed #1 Ruckman at Port & has managed a 95.6avg for the year.  With a relatively favorable draw over the last eight weeks, Ryder looks set for some more big tons before the season is out.  Plenty of loophole options open up if you already have Nankervis……….

Are any of these Rare Gems in your side?  Have you considered any as a big point of difference?

  1. Started with Ryder hoping he would finish up F6 and provide ruck coverage. It’s been an okay starting pick but hopefully he can reach 105+ from here on out

  2. I got in P.Ryder round 10 (post Bye).

I have 7 trades left and room for one more downgrade.

Facing a O in my forward line this week. Greene/ Greenwood/ Bolton.

I’m seriously considering BIG FRIDGE Darcy. R2 this week. R3 next.

This will give me Gawn, Ryder, Nank and Darcy as a flexible ruck combo.

I’m not convinced because Freo rookies seem to find weird and wonderful ways of going walkabout.

Lets hope Darcy and Ryan can be the exceptions to the rule.

      1. Hutta .

What are the chances Greenwood does a “Newman”.

late in and smashes out a ton.

I will be watching closely .If he doesn’t play……

I can’t believe I have to field Parsons again.

Ah well marginally better than a O I guess.

        1. Wet weather, doggies relatively small, Adelaide a little tall. “Rested” but named as emergency. Leaves a late out smell lingering. I’ve got the (E) locked on him in case.

          Parsons just won’t go away!
