Rare Gems – Rd3

Written by Schwarzwalder on April 13 2016

Having a Point Of Difference is one thing………it’s the Rare Gems that are really special.  Of course, we can’t have them all, but sometimes it feels like you’re the only owner…….you have a jet in your team that is producing great SC scores JUST FOR YOU.  Which Rare Gems have remained hidden from sight till now?

Corey Enright (GEE) $518 400 DEF – Everyone knows what Boris is capable of, everyone knows what he can do, everyone knows what he’s done, everyone knows he’s a Top 10 Defender.  So why on Earth do we keep avoiding him (year in, year out)?  101, 90 & 118 from his first three appearances this year.  Boris’ ownership rate of 1.7% seems to get smaller and smaller each year, but he just keeps producing consistent SC output…….and every year we seem surprised at this 😉

James Kelly (ESS) $451 300 MID – Hindsight is a wonderful thing, isn’t it?  A little bit of hindsight and we could’ve had Nuts Kelly in our midfield as the ultimate ‘stepping stone’ option for the year.  Averaging 111 pts till now, Kelly has been the best top-up player that Essendon signed on.  The real tragedy here isn’t that he’s owned by just 0.8%, but that he isn’t classified as DEF/MID.  He’s playing that sweeper role across half-back perfectly.  You can bet the ownership rate would be much higher with Dual Position status.

Tom J. Lynch (GCS) $503 200 FWD – 99, 129 & 112 to start the season…….BOOM!  His performances have been overshadowed by Ablett & Hall in Supercoach, but Lynch is in red-hot form.  He’s cutting an imposing figure up forward, the Suns are finally giving him some decent delivery & he’s catching everything that’s coming his way.   As long as the Suns’ winning form continues, you can be sure that Lynch’s 2500 Owners will continue grinning from ear-to-ear.

Jack Martin (GCS) $415 000 FWD – Is it just me or does this kid have some similarities with Cyril?  Even down to the hammy problems 😉  I thought he might still be a year or two away from SC-relevance but Martin is quickly changing my opinion there.  Like Cyril, he doesn’t always need a ton of disposal to post a decent score.  97avg from the first three weeks, should also continue to score well if the Suns keep winning.  His 3300 Owners will certainly hope so!

Are any of these Rare Gems in your trade plans for the next couple of weeks?  Can they keep up their sizzling form?  Let everyone know about it in the Poll & Comments below……….

  1. Not sure what do with Toby Greene and Paul Seedsman
Thumbs up for trading them for Robbie Gray and Tom Ruggles
Thumbs down for waiting a round to make sure Ruggles plays again

  2. Rare Gems, like it.I don’t know If Tom Mitchell is Technically a rare Gem,but as of last week he was only owned by 2% of supercoachers, and with scores of 127,133,108 and an average of 122.7, i’m pretty happy with him in my team atm,and ranked 9th in the comp for total points.

  3. Hidden gems are incredibly relevant for those in draft league where i’m sure these guys have all been snapped up as soon as they started showing some form.

In REAL SC i’d say Jack Martin is the most relevant as a late correctional trade. Very little down side and a heck of a lot of upside.

Surely James Kelly can’t maintain the rage every week off half a pre-season. If he can he’s worth drafting in but the chances of him finishing in the top 10 mids seems very low.

    1. Kelly won’t finish in top ten mids agree, but don’t worry about his fitness guys with 10+ preseasons behind them have an amazing base fitness even with some time off, only injury really kills that fitness

  4. Can’t really see anyone I would drop to bring any of the above in.

Nick Graham perhaps, but there’s probably enough cash for Gaz in the kitty, as I planned for Barlow – Zaha, then Graham – Gaz to ride Graham and Zaha’s rises and minimize the Barlow loss.

Of the above, Jack Martin is most useful as a corrective. But there are better options – Wells being an obvious one, or continuing to ride the Papley/Adams ride.

Maybe if you missed the boat on Hall? Luckily i have all 4 so see no reason to fish around for cash generating trades there.

  5. Can’t have Jack Martin getting 90’s in good games his bad games will be sub 50, rather take a punt on Menzel who knocked out a 91 in an only fair game

  6. Hey all.
scored 2260. thats also my 3 2ound average.
One change, Sheridan to Hall, via some DPP.
Sheridan will now drop money, hall will onl increase and seems he will be top 10 fwd.
    Thoughts on that please

    1. If you’ve only used two or less trades till now then I can understand that move. Sheridan won’t be a Top 10 DEF, Hall should be a Top 10 FWD at the rate he’s going.
If you’ve already used four trades though, you’d wanna slow down a touch soon enough. You’ll need them later on……
