Rare Gems – Round 16

Written by The Salamander on July 4 2019

Player Name (Club, Price, Ownership, Average)

DEFENDERS

Lachie Weller (GCS, $475,500, 1.3 %, 91.4)
In just over 2600 teams, Weller seems to be floating under the radar this year He shouldn’t be – he hasn’t been under 82 since round 1, and 4 of his 9 scores since them have been over 100. Gold Coast doesn’t have many SuperCoach-relevant players this year; Weller is one of them.

MIDFIELDERS

Dayne Zorko (BL, $540,300, 2.5 %, 103.6)
After a slow start to the year, averaging 88 over the first six rounds, Zorko has been back to his best, posting just two sub-100 scores since round 7 (an 85 and an 88), with the remaining six being 128, 114, 121, 117, 117, and 155.

RUCKS

Nic Naitanui (WCE, $524,400, 0.4 %, [782], 99.0)
It’s pretty slim pickings for rare gems in the ruck department, although having just come back from injury, Nic Nat looks to be in excellent touch. I wouldn’t recommend picking him up in classic, but if he’s still available in your draft league, grab him now before anyone else does. At worst, you can use him as late-season trade-bait!

FORWARDS

Darcy Parish (ESS, $494,000, 1.9 %, 89.4) 90.3 107.4 3/5
Heading into the 2015 draft, Parish was considered by many observers to be the best midfield prospect in that year’s pool. Then Clayton Oliver happened, and people promptly forgot about Parish. But after a quiet couple of years, he has once again started to remind people of why he was so highly rated back then, having been in terrific form over the last 5 weeks, scoring 147, 129, 110, 70, and 91 in that time.
