  1. Hey all my teams so far is

    1. There are a few players there that I’m not too sure of. I think I read somewhere that Wingard was injured(not 100% sure on that) as well as Harrison Wigg. Also, not sure on the forward line. If Wingard is injured then i’d trade him out and bring in some more support down back. That forward line is a bit too heavy priced not even mentioning the mid-pricers danger.

    2. Rethink required.. backline is garbage.. 1 keeper .. only 3 premos in the middle.. need 6.
You will need 45 trades to get a decent team

  2. I’ll jump in early and try get some feedback.

Laird, Simpson, Lloyd, O’Shea, Smith, Doedee, Murray, Cumming

Danger, Titch, Fyfe, Cripps, Rockliff, Ah Chee, LDU, Higgins, Ahern, Kelly, Holman

    Ryder, Gawn, Cameron

Heeney, Billings, McLean, Smith, Setterfield, Rioli, Venables, Ryan

14 hopeful season long keeper + Ah Chee.
Feels pretty standard with only Rocky, Ah Chee and McLean as a POD with most sides. Hoping for an early flourish from Rocky for a quick 100k and I feel like McLean is as good a chance as any for a top 4-8 forward. I reckon Ah Chee will be in a lot more sides post JLT so I won’t count him for the minute.

If a lot of the cheap rookies come up I’ll look to condense a few picks and slot McGrath in at D4 but for now the higher price place holders allow for a bit more wiggle room.

    Cheers for any feedback lads.

    1. Looks like a really strong side. It’s got a nice even balance with a few POD’s in there as well. It’s nice that you have a balanced view when it comes to Rocky as well. He will probably start strong and make 100k, but his injuries are just flat out scary. Not sure if I bite the Ah Chee bate just yet but we’ll wait till JLT on that one.

Great Team, and smart coach. I predict you doing well this year!

    1. I may be a tad old school, but all of Brayshaw, Redden, Stringer and Ah Chee is a couple 2 many – I’d downgrade one and upgrade another to a full premium. Ensure you have a back up for Rd10 bye when Ryder misses otherwise you’ll be eating a 0.

    1. As mentioned below, consider the Rd14 bye. 9 of your 14 starting premiums will be missing, let alone bolters you may want to bring in. Of the lot, I’d be moving on Lloyd as long as McVeigh is hanging around, scores were really hindered at the end of last year when he came back. Overall, nice well balance team.

    1. Reasonable team, Gardner is a key defensive player, but as Nateo says, is he Supercoach relevant?
Heeney is coming back from injury .. definite in by mid year but might want to put on watch for the first few weeks.
Smart Ruck lineup as long as you are confident Gawn will stand up all year .. which will be only the 2nd time in 8 years.
Like your mids except for Rocky .. may as well put Ablett in… but I’d consider Beams first.. with Rocky gone Beams will break the bank this year .. could miss a couple.. but reports say his body is the best it’s been for 6 years..
Otherwise, really good structure and balance..

Heeney could be traded for any fwd if he returns from surgery with issues

Little worried about not taking christensen considering i focused on a strong forward line but can upgrade rayner to him if I see a chance to downgrade another expensive rookie.

Naitanui is also pretty risky given hes apparently still not fully fit but hes had long enough that I expect him to work into the season at worst.

    1

    0
    1. Like McLean as a POD, nice bye too. Expect Rayner to be parked forward, lacking a tank to play midfield so either upgrade him like you mentioned, or grab Venables (WCE) to free up some cash – may want some in bank to work with in case NicNat needs upgrading, this way you won’t need to ruin structure.

    1. I don’t mind starting 1 Rd10 bye player but having to cover 2 may not go down so well – usually there will be a rookie or two that have been dropped by this stage and you won’t be able to cover 2 spots. I prefer Barlow of the two, otherwise rest look solid.

      2

      0
        1. Gray and Barlow. Port and GC have their own bye in Rd10 but you will still need to field 22 players. If you also bring Ryder into the ruck, you are just asking for trouble with 3 omitting.

  12. Hello all! Would love some feedback on my team for this year, named “Risky Business”.

Basically, I’ve filled the team with value picks and potential break-out players, so this team is very high risk, very high reward. Let me know what you think!

    Defence: A. Witherden, L. McDonald, R. Burton, A. McGrath, A. Francis, C. O’Shea (T. Deodee, I. Cumming)

    Midfield: G. Ablett, R. Sloane, L. Parker, C. Blakely, D. Parish, A. Brayshaw, J. O’Meara, LDU (P. Dow, J. Higgins, P. Ahern)

    Rucks: M. Kruzer, T. Goldstein (N. Balta)

    Forwards: J. DeGoey, C. Petracca, C. Curnow, R. Lobb, B. Ah Chee, C. Rayner (J. Garlett, L. Ryan)

    All feedback is welcome!

On a side note, I know for a fact this team will likely turn out poorly, it’s all for a bit of fun.

  13. Back again with another version of the Roid Ragers V3:

    DEF: M. Hurley, R. Laird, M. Hibberd, C. O’Shea, T. Deodee, S. Murray (I. Cumming, A. Morgan)

    MID: P. Dangerfield, D. Martin, T. Mitchell, J. Kelly, N. Fyfe, L. Parker, L. Davies-Uniacke, P. Ahern (T. Kelly, J. Worpel, N. Holman)

    RUCK: S. Jacobs, M. Gawn (T. Olango)

    FWD: I. Heeney, J. Billings, C. Curnow, J. Higgins, W. Rioli, J. Garlett (S. Switkowzki, L. Ryan)

    A few notes:

    – I feel this team is a lot safer than last time, as my only real risks now are Curnow, Heeney and Parker, and I am confident all of them will fire this season.

    – Some are worried about Heeney coming off surgery, but he came back from Glandular fever and starting producing straight away, so I’m not too stressed about his output early on.

    – I’ve decided to go Parker over Cripps because I feel that they will have similar scoring outputs, yet Parker is a little bit cheaper, less injury prone, and plays for a better team. Parker only started the season off slow last year because he had off-season surgery, but after the bye averaged close to 110. I still see Crippa being a top 10 mid, but will probably try to pick him up after the bye.

    – I added Danger to the team because I could afford him. There’s only a few things I can do with the extra 100k if I downgraded him to the likes of Zorko etc., and I don’t like any of the options. With the extra 100k I could:

Upgrade Curnow to a premo, but there aren’t any other fwd premos that I trust.

Upgrade Parker to a more expensive premo, which if he averages close to 110, which I predict he will, is just wasting money.

Upgrade a rookie to someone like Christensen or Birchall, however I don’t really trust any of the expensive “rookies” at the moment.

So the 100k, as of right now, is best spent upgrading a premo to Danger, in my opinion. If you can see another use for 100k, please let me know!

Other than that, any and all feedback is appreciated, so let me know what you think!

    12

    1. Nice well balance team. 8 of your 14 premiums have the Rd14 bye, so be careful when upgrading as there may be an early season bolter that you might want to jump on, and then you’ll be really stretched. Like the Parker pick as a POD.

  14. Destruction Awaits v2 ( it will either be for my team or my opponents)

Gone for only a 1 or 2 slight changes as nothing is really consolidated until preseason games are under way.
    Salary: 75,400

    DEF: R. Laird, M. Hibberd, Witherden, C. O’Shea, T. Deodee, S. Murray ( Goddard, A. Morgan)

    MID: T. Mitchell, J. Kelly, Zorko, Zerrett, N. Fyfe, Cripps, L. Davies-Uniacke, P. Ahern (T. Kelly, J. Worpel, Higgins)

RUCK: S. Jacobs, M. Gawn (Cameron)

FWD: I. Heeney, J. Billings, Petracca, Christensen, W. Rioli, J. Garlett (Keeffe, L. Ryan)

Only picks that have some questions on them for me is Petracca or Witherden.
    – I have seen a lot of teams running with Curnow, but i will definitely wait and see to see which pick would be better. Petracca has now got 2 seasons under the belt and could go to that next level which is what i need but he is fairly inconsistent which is what worries me. Give him more midfield time and then i have a lot more confidence
    – Witherden has only played 9 games but has re-signed with the Lions so that gives confidence his game shouldnt be affected mentally. This position is up in the air as i could have L.Mcdonald / Tuohy to replace him or i could remove the risk and squeeze some extra money out and play Hurley.
    – No Danger is always in my mind but if i can keep that extra money for my first upgrade it gives me a larger change to bring him in quite early

    1. Def – I like it, watch for rookies round 1

Mid – I would trade down Bonts for omeara or Coniglio

Ruck – I think Naitanui is a massive risk and would prefer to watch go around

Fwd – This needs to be beefed up. Too much risk here. Trade sideways or up for Wingard, another mid tier or higher needs to come from one of your rookies. Out venables – in upgrade,
And keep eye on round 1

Good luck mate, what would I know…:)

  18. Hi there just wondering whether Dawson Simpson will be a good pod for ruck 2? Very cheap and he had two scores around the 90 with mumford and now with mumford gone, would be a reasonable option to consider? And would lobb affect him in any way?

    0

    1
    1. As you suggested at the end would all depend on his role alongside lobb. If Simpson looks like he will comfortably be the number 1 ruck he might be worth the risk but if lobb plays a large chunk in the ruck i would leave Simpson alone.

    1. Dangers BE is 135 and there’s no way he will be able to keep that type of scoring up, by rd6-7 his price will drop a heap

      1

      7
      1. You need your stars aligned if he drops during a round, that’s if he does drop to 600k.
You need a cash cow maxed out and plus a new playing rookie to buy that round and that’s if there is one to buy. Plus I reckon it will take 3 trades to get Danger in and thats IF he drops in price. If it doesn’t, behind the eight ball all season. My two cents.

        6

        0
        1. To many through the guts now at the cats with Ablett, Duncan, Selwoods, Tuohy, Menengola, they will all effect his scoring

          0

          2
          1. If he ain’t running thru the midfield at times, they’ll station him in the forward line. You saw the damage he did in 2017 when they started him there. He’s a very hard match up, he’s just about untaggable.

            4

            0
    2. Dangerfield is fine, you have a well balanced team and you’ve worked around the byes nicely. I think there is some good value in the forwards so would look to boost that mid by 1 otherwise good spot to sit until we know more about rookies.

    0

    1
      1. True, but I’ve chosen to avoid breakout players. My history of selecting the right one is pretty poor.
Last year, a come back new Hawks player, fail. The year before, Wright from Carlton, burn.
Even on years where I’ve selected a mid pricer and they go ok, still not top 6 so need to upgrade anyway, if I can!

        1

        0
  22. Hi, I think I’ve got a winning lineup and I’ve already put lots of work into it. I’ve put a ‘?’ next to players I’m unsure about.

Hurley, Laird, Hibberd, Burton?, Morrison, Doedee, (Cumming, Keffee)

Danger, Kelly, Zerrett?, Cripps, Coniglio, Graham, Luke DU, T. Kelly, (Fogarty, Garlett, Holman)

    Gawn, Witts?, (Cameron?)

Heeney, Billings, Lobb, Balic, Higgins, Ahern (W. Rioli, L. Ryan)

    1

    0
    1. Nothing wrong with Zerrett at all, a big chance to be Top10 MID again. Witts will be a big POD but if you’re confident he’ll improve further, then stick with him. Not quite sure about Burton. Classy player, no doubt………just not sure he’s Top10 DEF just yet.

      1

      0
  23. Hi All,

My current way of thinking is to leave a good chunk of change in the bank ($109k) to use for an early upgrade in the first 10 rounds, pick 14 potential top 10s on their respective line, and have 3-4 under represented players for a POD to other teams.

Def: Laird, Hibberd, McGovern*, O’Shea, Doedee, Keeffe (Murray, Morgan)

Mid: Danger, Martin, Mitchell, Kelly, Stevens*, Dow, LDU, Brodie (Poholke, Kelly, Garlett)

    Ruck: Jacobs, Gawn (Lavender)

Forward: Billings, Mundy*, McLean, Parish*, Higgins, Venables (Ahearn, Ryan)

    * POD players

    Some questions I have:
    1. Have other coaches reserved a large portion of cash up front in the past and has it been a successful strategy?

    2. I’m noticing many coaches are optioning for mid size midfielder types as forwards instead of Franklin, Cameron, Dixon…etc? Is it because they are over priced, too inconsistent or any other reason?

    3. I’ve got no players valued between 200-400k in the team? Is this a prudent strategy?

    4. Intercept key position backs (Hurley, McGovern…etc) vs running high possession backs (Simpson, Laird…etc)? Pick a mix of them or stay with a specific type?

    1

    0
    1. Feel like there may be too many “risky pods” with the like of mundy and parish in particular but overall not a bad structure.

To answer some of your questions with my opinions:
      1. I don’t see the point in saving cash once round one locks out as you are already not putting in cash to maximise early points (it could pay off if you are just focusing on a certain league for example however)

      2. The mid size midfielder / forwards offer better value i believe. I thought i heard that Franklin had surgery over the off season (correct me if im wrong) along with his already high price tag. Obviously with key position players as you said they can be inconsistent.

      3. I too don’t have players in between 200-400k. I guess its a less risky strategy and at least you are not getting caught up in mid price madness!

      4. Just pick the best defenders you believe will finish top 6. Don’t particularly worry about there type of play (as long as they are getting you good scores thats all that matters)

      Just my perspectives anyway 🙂

      4

      0
    2. 1. I was left with a decent amount of cash (due to circumstances with rolling lockout and failed ruck strategy) two years ago. Not ideal but was able to upgrade quickly to Dangerfield (who I’d left out of starting line-up). Pros & Cons……

      2. A large chunk of the FWD premiums are still in the rehab groups of their respective clubs. Looks like most Coaches are still waiting to see on that one. Will most likely change a bit before Rd1.

      3. Provided there are enough decent rookies, then the ‘Guns N Rookies’ strategy looks the way to go.

      4. Go with your gut 😉 Whoever you think will bring you the most pts over 22 Rds…..

    1. It looks like you’ve anchored each line with a gun and then a lot more speculative picks.
Houli, Oliver and Curnow aren’t really the second best player on each line. I also don’t really see where you spent the extra cash that you would’ve saved.
But then again, I prefer guns and rookie approach.
      Good luck!

      1. I’m usually the same but this year I’m taking a different approach. I’ve been doing the same thing for the past few years so I decided to mix it up. You’ve gotta risk it for the biscuit!

  25. hey guys, this is my first attempt at a team, any feedback would be appreciated, and yes i know that my mid doesn’t have an uber-premium in it but that’s what my spare cash (131,800) is for, just wanting to know who i could upgrade and all rookies are up in the air until round 1, cheers

DEF: Laird, Howe, Lloyd, Brayshaw, Deodee, Cumming, (S. Murray, A. Morgan)
MID: Fyfe (capt), Bont (VC), Cripps, Hannebery, Rockliff, Coniglio, Unakie, J.Higgins, (T.Kelly, D.Moore (Hawks), D.Barry)
    RUCK: Grundy, Gawn, (Cameron)
FWD: Heeney, Billings, Petracca, Curnow, Stephenson, Ahern, (T. English, L. Ryan)

    1. Forward and back lines look good – mids and ruck need work.

You have to get rid of Hannebery, he’s struggling with injury and probably won’t play much (if at all) in JLT. If you want a Swans mid, Parker looks like the best bet at the moment. And Brodie Grundy is not a good choice in the ruck this year, Bucks will see to that.

      1

      1. Why is Grundy no good this year? I think he is perfect for SC as he is alway involved, gets clearances, lays tackles. I know he is orobe to the odd freekick against but i think hes abput yo mature and hit his prime. But that is an outsiders opinion

        1. He doesn’t like big Cox. Sorry, let me correct that, we don’t want him to play with Cox.
Ok, last try, Cox effects his sc output enough for most coaches to have a question mark. Buckley has said that he sees Cox playing and therefore most coaches will avoid. If Cox goes down with an long term injury in the JLT, expect every man and his chihuahua to jump on board.

  26. Played around with my team a bit since the January Rate my team. Opted to get rid of Nic Nat and go for a bit more of a stacked midfield. While having some potential breakout contenders up forward in Curnow who averaged high 90’s in the back end of the season last year and Rory Lobb who will surely be the Giants solo ruckman this year, he also averaged just over 100 in the 4 games he was solo ruck last year.
All feedback is helpful! Thank you.

Def- Hurley, Laird, Hibberd, O’Shea, Doedee, Cumming (Murray, Morgan)

    1. It intrigues me that so many sides have three onfield rookies in Defence when it is generally considered that the Midfield rookies are the ones who will score better and increase in value quicker.
I think people see so many midfielders they would like and get carried away trying to get as many in as possible.

To me trying to generate money with five defensive rookies is always going to be harder, but then each to his own otherwise we’d all have the same team.

      5

      1
      1. You’re right Champ, mid rookies usually make better cows.
I’m also sporting 5 defensive rookies, but that’s because I don’t trust a lot of the prems to continue their form.
However, we’ll know more once we see them in action then swap them round like a Greek orgy.

        1

        0
      2. Traditionally that’s been true however in recent seasons many of the better rookies have come in defence and forward. Houston, Marchbank, Witherden, McGrath & Hoskin Elliott for example last season were all Def or Fwd eligible.

There’s a strong possibility it will ring true this season too with the likes of Doedee & O’Shea in defence and the 3 Eagles in the forward line. Outside of Dow & LDU the mid rookies don’t really look that promising from my point of view.

At the end of they day the position they come in is almost irrelevant. Supercoach 101, pick your rookies first and build your side around them.

  28. Hey Guys i’ll be asking a bit about certain players and to start of

    J. Townsend $321.600 and projected round 1 score of 108.
    J. O’Meara $315.800 and projected round 1 of 72
    C. Rayner $202.800 and projected round 1 of 37

thanks guys would love your thought

    1. Townsend – Way to awkwardly priced. Scored 118 in the demolition of the dockers otherwise stunk it over the finals (and most of his 40 games)

O’Meara – Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Rayner – Lacking a midfield tank and will play predominantly forward. Priced too high for that.

      1. I’ve been mulling over this point for a while now. Paddy went at 110 post bye last season after a few warm up games from the year off. While he’s u likely to do it over a whole season I don’t think 21/105 for the season is unreasonable for him.

That would give him a tota of 2205 for the season. Minus the 105 for the donut gives him 2100 for the season for simplicity sake.

Many teams seem to have Sauce locked in along side Gawn. If we give sauce a 5 ppg bump up to a 100 average and assume he plays 21 games (average games for the last 3 years) he scores 2100 for the season also. On face value it looks like Sauce is the pick of the 2 for 30k cheaper.

Looking into it further though, as Paddy has the early bye, he’ll also be playing over the 3 best 18 bye rounds so his selection presents a unique opportunity of forcing a poor rookie score off field in each of those three weeks. It’s hard to gauge a point value for these weeks but it could mean anywhere from +0 to +100 each week depending on circumstance.

There’s a lot of “what if’s” involved in this but I’m starting to think there may be merit in copping the short term donut pain for the opportunity of more points on aggregate over the season.

Bit of food for thought either way.

    1. Pérhaps downgrade a mid to help strengthen your forwards. Love the witherden pick. Im not brave enough at this stage! I see alot of sides with Charlie up FWD, whilst i think he is a terrific player, i think we may see some very up and down scores. The only young FWD i rate higher is Daniher and i still cant quite trust him 5 years in.

      1

      0
      1. Yeah I see what you mean with curnow and Daniher I could go with Daniher because last year his average went up by 14 just that season and now that his team is better I reckon he’ll average higher

I have flirted at various times with a full midfield of danger, Dusty, Titch, Kelly but surely it cant be that simple. Also really keen on Burton, Witherden and Mcgrath down back but too risky at this point.

  32. DEF – Hibberd, Laird, Simpson, O’Shea, Cumming, Morgan (Doedee, Keefe)
MID – Danger, Dusty, Mitchell, Crouch, Kelly, Fyfe, LDU, Freeman (Kelly, Barry, Holman)
    RUC – Jacobs, Gawn (English)
*FWD – Heeney, McLean, Curnow, Higgins, Ahern, Garlett (Ryan, Brown)

*Forward line is incredibly risky I know but leading up to rd1 I have the extra cash to be able to upgrade McLean to Wingard should he return to good form. as for Curnow its just a gut move in bringing him in as i feel he will show how underrated he is.
    Any thoughts are welcomed 🙂

    1. Keep McLean! Wingard has a crappy bye round, and I have a sneaking feeling that Toby will be a gun in the forward line this year.

      0

      0
    2. I cant help but feel the mids are a bit too heavy at the expense of the forwards. Mclean maybe top 6 FWDs but there is potentially 5 upgrades reqiured there. Just a thought on the structure. Clearly its all speculation and this tactic may work brilliantly! Def and rucks spot on

  36. Hi, it’s my first time posting so I’m new to this. I’ve played SuperCoach before so I’m not completely unfamiliar with it. But I was hoping for some advice on my chosen team so far. Same as everyone else, rookies are just a filler at the moment. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Defenders
Hurley, Laird, M. Hibberd, (A. McPherson)
    P. Hanley, M. Willis, H. Goddard (D, Mirra)

    Mids

    J. Stephenson, J. Higgins, J. Garlett (P. Wilson)

    1. I’d have a big question mark over Boak. He’s been sliding backwards for a few years now and I think the trend will continue, especially with Motlop and Rocky coming in.
Hanley is also a concern with a few years of injury setbacks, but if you’re confident he’ll play then has been close to premium status a few years back, so could be worth it.

      1. Thanks Brad, much appreciated. I’m not too concerned about Hanley as much as I’m about Boak. I was thinking of Petracca but not 100% sure either. Since my earlier post, I’ve made one other change in my forward line
        Out- Stephenson, in- Christensen.
        Thoughts?

        0
        1. I’d take Petracca over Boak, I think the young guy will only improve, whether or not he improved enough is a different question.
It’d be close to 4 years ago when Christensen was almost SC relevant. He might make a good money maker, but I’d prefer a cheap as chips rookie.

    1. I’m not sure that that much has changed for danger, dusty or titch to assume that none of them can be top 3 again this year. You may end up chasing points.
It looks like you’ve gone for previous guns in the hope they all get back on top, but the likelihood is that one or 2 may go the other way. That would be my concerns, but good luck!

      1

      0
    2. Dont really like it mate. Despite the fact that you have stacked your mids, none of the big 3 mids in danger, dusty and titch are in there, so barring injury, you can only bring one of them in (unless you waste a trade sideways trading). Try to fit at least one of them at the start, and take out one of your premo mids. Premos tend to always drop in price at some stage, and you want to be able to pick up bargains as the season progresses, and with that midfield, you can only pick up 1 more mid premo

    1. 1 Heeney is the best of the lot, but after surgery, I’m waiting to see how and when he comes back. I’m not sure the swans play preseason with a straight bat, so who knows where he’s at in preparation.

2 Billings for me is the most likely to be consistent, but I want to look into his figures a bit more yet.

3 Daulhaus is tough. Was it an off year last year or was the premiership year just a one off? (Could be said for all doggy players). If he gets more time in the middle, yes. If left to rot in the forwards, then no.
4 Petracca is likely to improve further, but will it be enough is my concern to be top 10 forward?

  43. Hey guys, love the site and love the willingness to share opinions. This is my first crack at AFL supercoach after a few years of NRL supercoach and it’s pretty daunting! So many more players to choose from and huge lists to learn the pecking orders of but one of the best things about supercoach is how much you learn about teams other than the one you follow.

    After reading and researching my current team is;
Hibberd, Witherden, Laird, Burton, O’Shea, Doedee (Keefe, Murray)

Dusty, Zorko, Zerret, Titch, Cripps, LDU, Ahern, Barlett (Kelly, Worpel, Holman)

    Gawn, Jacobs (Olango)

Billings, McLean, Curnow, Lubb, Christensen, Higgins (Rioli, Venebles)

    40k ITB

Obviously cheapies will change but I might be done until AFLx and JLT. Probably not, but maybe.

    Any pointers?
