    1. Some great selections but I’m a bit worried about your bench depth and plans for RD2 as the Heat have the bye.

An option could be to trade M Stoinis to M Ur Rahman thus saving approximately 130,000. This can be used to upgrade Sutherland to S Lamichhane which only costs 20,000 thus leaving you with 110,000 left. The remaining 110,000 could be used to trade Bryant and Harvey to N Coulter Nile and C Ferguson.

This would give you 6 double game players for Rd1 (Lynn, McCullum, Willey, Coulter Nile, Behrendorff, Ur Rahman) and still 3 heat players but it will make it easier to trade them as you don’t have 3 in the 1 position.

      1. Gonna have to disagree with you here Adam. With the way the format works you make 3 trades every week so Lynn, McCullum and Bryant isn’t excessive, with Bryant a great cheap option if he plays. Also as there are no emergencies you need 2 non-playing options to loophole which can be extremely handy due to the large variance in scores.

  2. Currently running with a line up consisting of:

    Bat: C Lynn, J Denly, J Archer, N Coulter-Nile, B McCullum, (M Henriques, C Ferguson)

    WK: B McDermott, (B Dunk)

    Bowl: R Khan, S Watson, J Behrendorff, U Qadir, M Ur Rahman, (J Botha, S Lamichhane)

R Khan, J Behrendorff, U Qadir, M Ur Rahman, S Lamichhane, B McCullum, B McDermott, B Dunk, M Henriques and J Denly have and will be the mainstays in all iterations with the sextet of Lynn, Coulter-Nile, Ferguson, Archer, Watson and Botha subject to change.

      1. Thanks. Reasoning behind Denly is he performed very well last season with the bat and he should get more of a bowl with Johan Botha moving to the Hurricanes. In T20 matches in 2018 Denly has taken 21 wickets from 15 innings in 29 matches with an economy rate of 7.58 and 3 3 wicket hauls. Also he has scored 878 runs from 27 innings in T20 matches in 2018 with a strike rate of 135.07 and approximately 1/4 of the matches he has scored 50+.

In regards to Qadir he has been selected largely due to their double first up, a pod selection and he boasts an economy rate below 6 in his T20 career. He looks to be the main spinner throughout the BBL season for the Scorchers as I assume Agar will leave the squad due to international duties at some stage.

    1. A couple of good pod selections in Buttler, Agar and Sams. An option could be White out for McCullum thus increasing your remaining salary from approximately 20,000 to 50,000 to allow Harvey and Swepson to be traded to Dunk and Behrendorff.

  4. Still a first draft but thought I’d say my justifications as well

Lynn – DGW straight up no brainer
    A. Agar – If he plays is a lock as he generally bowls 4 overs and gets a slog with the bat
Harris – Opens for the Renegades – finished last season well and just got a 250* in the shield
McCullum – DGW and is massively underpriced
Klinger – missed all of last season – opens – DGW – one of my first picked
Henriques – cheap and can still perform
Bryant – partially a placeholder but if he gets in the team he is a lock

Carey – Strikers DGW in the 2nd week and had a massive last season – Will most likely turn into Mcdermott then Buttler in week 3 and 4
Peirson – not sure on this spot currently but would be a solid loophole and he can score alright

Rashid – First picked he is a gun
Archer – extremely economical bowler and sometimes gets a slog
Christian – solid all rounder and Gades dont have many options currently
Coulter Nile – great form in the T20I’s so far and is cheap due to missing games
Cartwirght – super cheap with a DGW and should bat high in the order
Lamichane – not actually sure on him but heard he was a lock on the podcast so want to at least see what he can do
    Edwards – placeholder for now

    1. Great team. Love the pod selections of M Harris, M Klinger and D Christian. An option could be to trade Pierson to Ludeman allowing Cartwright to be upgraded to J Behrendorff.

    1. Great team and hard to fault most of your selections. The only selections I would consider changing are M Neser and S Heazlett. M Neser isn’t an economical bowler and doesn’t make enough runs therefore he is largely dependent on taking wickets.

An option could be trading Neser to Ingram which would set you up for the strikers double week and would allow Ingram to benched in Round 1 allowing Klinger to be fielded for his double. This would free up approximately 36,000 thus allowing Heazlett to be traded to M Ur Rahman/ J Botha via M Henriques.

Other than that a great setup and selections and good luck for the upcoming season.

  6. Thanks Adam for your sound advice and words of encouragement.

Yeah with Neser I am probably a bit blinkered as he performed well for me in a couple rounds last year when I traded him in with the Strikers playing twice. Will take on board your feedback.

    1. That’s fine. He’s not a bad option but there are half a dozen strikers I would priortize over Neser who in no particular order are Khan, Carey, Head, Stanlake, Laughlin and Ingram. Both Laughlin and Stanlake are cheaper than Neser and Laughlin has a wide arsenal of deliveries and holds the record as the leading wicket taker in bbl history whereas Stanlake has averaged 65.93 SC points in 14 T20 internationals in 2018.

What’s the price change in bbl like? Can a players value vary greatly over 3 rounds. Some talk above on the loophole, does your lowest scoring bench player step in? Glad I found this site and thanks for any help

  8. Hey Dan you need to bring in more Scorchers and Heat players into your starting squad as they both play 2 games in Round 1 and a couple of strikers players that play twice in Round 2 so double points available.
Root to McCullum freeing up cash and another Scorcher in the bowlers like Berendorff or Coulter – Nile for Stoinis who I think is overpriced and then Handscomb upgraded to Alex Carey.

      1. Price changes happen every week so they can be pretty volatile yeah, especially at the start when it’s easy for a batter only to give a very low score. No emergencies in this so you need 2 non playing in one line to loophole as you get the lowest score.

    1. Great setup and pretty hard to fault. Only change could be Carey to Willey as you will be able to trade Lynn to Carey in round 2 due to Brisbane’s Double Bye and Adelaide’s double game week.

Great selections and structure all across and you have established some superb bench depth. Who do you plan to bring in for the Heat players in RD2.

      2

    1. Sounds like a solid plan which I assume would then involve trading 3 of your Strikers to Short, McDermott and G Bailey/ J Botha for example to capitalise on Hobart’s double and Adelaide’s bye whilst sustaining a nice core of players.

    2. Unorthodox structure but fantastic selections throughout. I agree with your sentiment regarding D Short as the only way he will be a worthwhile selection is if he consistently scores in excess of 50 an innings whilst boasting a strike rate exceeding 150 or capturing a wicket in conjunction with 30+ runs.

Could be a masterstroke move leaving both Lynn and Tye out but I think to alleviate the risk it is necessary to select 1. Lynn has a great record against the Hurricanes which is evident by 3 of his last 4 Sc sores against them exceeding 140 (145,1,170,156) and Tye will likely both the death overs where he can claim cheap wickets and also historically boasts a low economy rate due to his range of variations.

If you are going to bring 1 in I assume it would involve trading Denly out and pushing Qadir to the bench as you have sufficient money to bring in Tye/Lynn for Denly. You could then trade Tye out in RD2 for Laughlin freeing up approximately 90,000-100,000 allowing B McCullum to be traded to J Denly and 1 of the Heat bowlers out due to their double bye.

      2

      0
  15. I would change Bravo to Lynn as the Heat have a double game Round 1 and the stars do not have a double game round until later in the Tournament. With a lot of the Renegades on national duty Ludeman should open or come at 3 so a must have IMHO so I would also change Whiteman to Ludeman.

      1. Drop Short to McCullum freeing up approximately 140,000 alllowing Sutherland to be traded to B Laughlin in preparation for Round 2 as Sutherland will not be bowling until the new year. You will have approximately 50,000 left which could be used to trade Jewell to S Lamichanne via J Edwards leaving 30,000 left. These trades will strengthen your bench allowing you to possibly keep certain players from the first 4 byes rather than trading them out.

With the 30,000 remaining it will allow you to trade C Lynn to A Carey in RD2, McCullum to C Ingram and possibly Pattinson to Botha in preparation for Round 3 thus moving Laughlin off the bench and moving Pattinson/Botha to the bench.

Then you can trade Carey to Short in Round 3 for his double by trading Laughlin to someone like U Khan Shinwari.

Apart from those suggestions the rest of your of onfield selections are great.

          1. Short too expensive and money is better utilised elsewhere and he should be able to be easily brought in by trading a player above 180,000 in Round 3. Coulter Nile is heavily discounted due to injury and is an all rounder with a double game first up and the 120,000 allows you to strengthen other components of your team.

Nevill will be batting to far down the order and Ludeman should be opening due to the injured players and international duties.

Better options than Sandhu and by taking out Short it allows you to get R Khan. Whilst Boyce could be a good option Nabi should bat around 4-7 and bowl 4 overs a game and will be a great starting pod.

To allow those trades McDermott will need to be traded to Dunk. He’s discounted due to a poor performance last year but should be keen to atone it. He should also open the batting and will benefit when several stars players head off for international duties.

    1. An option with your remaining salary for your starting team is Heazlett out for J Edwards and switching J Edwards for D Wiley to bring M Ur Rahman on field. This would involve moving Ferguson to the batters bench allowing Wiley to come on and your remaining salary would be 72,000. Ferguson could be traded to Ludeman allowing a potential switch between the wicketkeepers (ie switching Dunk and Ludeman between wk and bat) and McDermott could be traded to Archer leaving you with around 10,000 to 20,000 left.

    1. Worried about the bench depths in both lineups but this can be comfortably recitified by certain changes to both teams.

      Team 1:
Really like all of the onfield selections except for Cutting and McDermott who could be traded for Behrendorff and Dunk which would give you approximately an extra 55,000 increasing your remaining salary to 65,000. This could be used to trade Green and Harvey who don’t look like getting selected to M Henriques and S Lamichhane thus increasing your bench depth and decreasing your Heat players ( from 4 to 3).

      Team 2:
Only changes would be Stoinis and Qadir for J Denly and J Pattinson which would increase your remaining salary to approximately 75,000 allowing Green and Bryant to be traded to M Henriques and J Phillipe/ S Lamichhane (via J Edwards).

Therefore this narrows it down to what on field combination you would rather between
Team 1: Ludeman, Tye, Stanlake, Behrendorff and Ur Rahman
      or
Team 2: Denly, Buttler, Watson, Pattinson, Henriques

I would lean towards Team 1 only because of the 2 extra double game players but the 2nd option is still a great alternative but most of the players from the 2nd option should be able to be brought in between R2-R4.

  23. I think Klinger has a back injury and will miss the start of BBL so I would replace him. You need more Heat and Scorcher players as they have 2 games in Round 1 so double points on offer.
Lynn, Willey, Tye all good premium options.

    1. I switched the team. Removed White, Henriques and Klinger and White and got in Maxwell, Pope and Heazlett.
So for now, my playing XI is-
Nabi- Denly- Maxwell- McCullum- Heazlett (Was not getting a batsman for a lesser budget) (Bailey and Ferguson on bench)
      Buttler (Ludeman)
Bravo- Rashid- Dorff- Coulter Nile- Mujeeb (Sandeep and Pope on bench)

  24. Not sold on starting with 3 Stars and Renegades premium players as they do not play double games in a Round until late in the Tournament.
I would keep 1 of Nabi, Maxwell and Bravo and swap 2 of them for Lynn and Willey.
