Not a fan of Shaw and Grimes, but that is just personal taste I suppose.

I think that you are one gun short in the midfield. Yes, there are always the best value rookies in there, but you have to remember that that is where the majority of your gun scoring will come, so you don’t want to go too short in there. I would downgrade a forward (if it was my team it would be Roughead) and upgrade one of your young midfielders to whichever of the guns was next on your list.

I think I heard on the news that Barlow has a calf injury, not confirmed thou. Sandilands might not score as much with the new coach as he will probly play three ruckman to ease his workload. And not sure how roughie will come of his injury. Looks like a good mix or rookies and prems but

Not sure about the Sandilands comment, Matteo. At St Kilda, Ross was happy to play Gardiner early and then McEvoy when he developed with the likes of Blake and, when forced to, Kossie as the backup ruckman. I would be surprised if he played something other than Sandilands with either Johnson or Bradley as the backup

I’ve had Sandi in from the start but I am a bit worried. They could be pretty cautious with him and they held on to Griffin for a reason after he was more than solid when 211 was out last year.

I would not be surprised to see the averages of both Sandi and Coxy drop a little this year as they share more of the workload. The upside is it will hopefully keep them away from the general a little more.

Interesting choice with Heppell, don’t forget about the 2nd year blues! And not sure about Rockliff, he is just too expensive for someone so young and inexperienced, plus he is not in the greatest team in the world. Rucks seems very good, almost the same as what i would be going with. And I like your forwards, however not sure Stevie J will have the same season he did last year. Can’t say much about the rookies you have chosen as I don’t know many of them. But the NAB cup will tell us which rookies will be good to go for the SC season!

Agree re Rockliff. His pretty inexperienced for his price tag of $615k. Look at it this way – he’s not likely to rise much in value, so my view is waiting to see on rockliff doesn’t hurt. Given the Rd 11 bye situation I’m likely to bring him into my team in Rd 12 (certainly ahead of Redden)

It’s different to a number of teams that I have seen, which I really like.

Shaw and Grimes are personally on the ‘don’t touch’ list for me, but that is personal opinion.

I understand that the Goddard and R O’Keefe midfield is designed to all DPP switching, but reading Goddard, Hodge & ROK instead of, say, Pendles, Swan and Murphy, just doesn’t read as well to me. That being said, I can see it paying off for you. Is ROK too old though?

In the forward line, have you taken maybe one too many risks. Riewoldt and his degenerative knee, Dangerfield and his recklessness, Brown, see Patty and Porplyzia and his bung shoulder. I would maybe be taking a couple of those into the season. Again, though, personal taste. Who knows, they all stay fit and you take home a nice wad of cash come October 2012…

Would be similar to Hunt this year, I think. Not great scoring, but will be more likely to get games than most of his young cohorts due to his more mature body and his marketing value in an NRL-centric city

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

Watched his progress over 2011, can kick goals, sees a bit of the ball and will play plenty of games….might taper off towards the end of the year like k.hunt.

Because we only have 2 bench players this year i have him in my side at the moment, purely because he will get games, but if a more suitable rook comes up that sounds like he will get games izzy would be the first to go IMO.

@matteo, doesn’t look too bad. Be careful about dangerfield, very inconsistent, and don’t be picking players just because they are dpp. A good consistent player is better than an average flexible one.

Broughton is an interesting one, need to see what Ross is doing with him in the NAB cup. I think Carrots is on the way down, but, as Motts points out, you seem to be a Blues fan. Davis is an interesting choice that could play off.

I don’t mind the three-Blue-mid, just cos I assume that you have Scotland and Robbo in there for their DPP ability. I personally would be going with one less gun though, as you have effectively got a midfield with only three cash cows and only one more spot for a gun. It looks good to start the year, but at the end of the season that midfield could be up against: GAJ, Swan, Pendles, Dal, Murphy and Judd. Just food for thought

The risk of Jacobs becoming a premium by seasons end is worth it, I think.

Pavlich has passed 30, Cyril enjoys being injured, as does Porplyzia and Patty is inconsistent. Just seems like a forward-line that could easily end up all being out at the same time. I think that you are short a couple of stable and reliable forward scoring options

Well, your ruck set-up has two round 11 byes and two round 12 byes, so I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. As for Veszpremi, you’d have to wait until we see the pre-season set up from McCartney. The fact that he has only made AFL appearances in 12 games in four years is a major concern. Broughton and Dangerfield are really my only dislikes in the team

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 1

Petho good team as mentioned Broughton for me is a no-go. He tends to score well when he was rotated in to fill Mundy’s absence, which pumps his numbers up a bit. With Mundy and Barlow both back, I can’t seem him getting much time in the mid.

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 1

Deano January 6, 2012 at 11:50 pm

Not sure about your assessment on Broughton when you analyse the numbers guys. In his first two years playing off the backline he averaged 98 whereas last year covering for Barlow and Mundy his ~ was down to 92.
I agree alot will depend on what role Ross wants him to play but someone like him who is hard at the contest and makes good decisions with the Sherrin could be SC gold.

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

The problem isn’t so much when he is playing in defence, it is when he is playing DEEP defence lock-down roles. I haven’t heard anything about him training with the midfield group (on Ballantyne’s name keeps getting thrown in there), but he is such a risk if he is only playing in defence due to his ability to stop an opponent (something that Ross Lyon tends to like…)

Backs and Fwds being the cheapest priced positions means they are easier to upgrade to. I have no more than 2 prems in each position with byes over rds 11-13. Looking forward to hear what you think.

The problem with doing what you have done in the midfield is three-fold. Firstly, it doesn’t allow you to take full advantage of the many cash-cow option in the midfield. Secondly, it doesn’t allow you to snap up a premium who has had a poor start to the season (there is always at least one, every year). Thirdly, it leaves your back and especially forward line looking thinner than Kate Moss on a diet. It is an interesting idea, but I can’t see it paying off unless you have picked the six midfielders and they raise their individual games to a whole new level…And even then, tons of scoring from your midfield can only make up for some many doughnuts in other positions…

Don, thanks very much for your advice. I think its great how you are giving advice to so many coaches. I think your advice is great and if I make a change I will go with priddis or boyd out and upgrade one of the backs to broughton and one of the fwds to who??????????? the idea of changing priddis to broughton makes me cringe and taking out boyd for riewoldt or goodes makes me cringe even more. but i guess you need the money from the cash cows to upgrade. cheers and looking fwd to more of your great advice.

Just on Monty’s Fan Planner, you do know that it is free and that it can just be accessed from your FF account? On the main FF page it is about a third of the way down on the left. As for the team:

Grimes – I have commented on a number of teams, and, yeah, I can’t bring myself to select him for anything, ever

I think that Hodge will go up in 2012, but I also think that there is better value

I like the idea of starting Giles on the park. I’m a tiny bit worried about the pick-up of Brogan, but surely Giles will do a decent Zac Smith impersonation this season

With the forwards, it is just personal opinion, but I think that Chappy may be on the way down now. As an Essendon fan, I love Ryder. As a DT/SC fan, I do not love Ryder…

Interested in any thoughts on the team. Goal is to balance the guns across the byes. I’ll need to swap out some GWS rookies for Rd 13 bye rookies – to be determined by preseason.

TEAM: Darm’s Destroyers
B: Goddard, Deledio, Shaw, Adcock, Lake, Mohr, Hombsch (Morris, Bell)

R: Cox, Sandi (Giles, Stephenson)
F: Franklin, Goodes, N Riewoldt, J Brown, Porplyzia, Smith, Pfeiffer (Zorko, Rowe)

Cash left – $700 (pretty tight…)
Considering a swap for Sandi in the ruck and bringing in Kreuzer

Welcome any thoughts

I so dislike Shaw, but that is just me (well, actually it is a large number of people). Not sure on the Adcock selection, although 20 games last year, 90 average (his second highest ever) and just turned 26 seems to say that he could be a decent get.

Obviously you will be watching the pre-season, but I’m sceptical as to whether Monty will ever regain his premium tag. On the plus side he is durable and only 28, but I just have a feeling

Not sure why everyone is sticking clear of Cox, although I am as well. It’s amazing to think that he could be a great POD this season

Not a fan of the tons of DPP forward stars? None of Beams, Sidebottom, Zaharakis, Martin, Robinson? There is a touch of old guard about a line-up with Goodes, Roo and Brown. Maybe Goodes out for one of the aforementioned M/F newbies?

Going cheap in the Rucks this year Yio, there are a lot of inflated prices this year due to having only 30 players to choose from instead of 33. I think the prices of Cox and co will go down and you can pick ‘em up at a discount during the season.

Mcintosh and Renouf will hurt you, they’ll combine approximately 150 between at the most with Big Mac contributing 70% of that (injuries aside). Riewoldt ,Stevie J, Rioli, Brad Dick (may play second half of season) and untried’s in Walsh and Cook leaves you a tad weak for bench strength on your forward line if injuries conspire.

Agree PA. But the higher prices and the byes are making it hard to get good value.
Lake is a lock for a gamble for 95% of coaches.
Grimey is a huge risk, but I’m banking on the fact last year’s injury was not his back, so hopefully his bad luck is over and he might fulfil his promise.
Heater is a dumbass, but hopefully that’s enough out of his system now that he might stay out of trouble and should score well.He probably won;’t learn though.
Hayes I’ll probably drop. I won’t have enough moulah for a prem, so I’m liking Zzzziebell atm. If you take out the 2 (inj), he ave about 120 last 7 games or something last year.
Browndog has been training the house down apparently, and I’d be happy for 90+ ave.
Dangermouse is a lucky dip, but something tells me this could be his year. Body more mature, new coach. Could go bang. Worth a punt in the FWDs.
Not sure about Grima. He’s had a full preseason this year so I’m hoping he can get back to his floating around half back role an get some cheap possies.

Then again, I might just drop them all ;-)

No idea about Ellis, but Saad is a mature-age rookie who has been ripping up the VFL (for the Bullants) as a small forward. Last year he has 50 goals from 20 games, including bags of eight, five and a couple of fours. The early consensus is that he will make the Saints best 22 come the start of the season

Not bad Butch. Great forwardline. Things I’d consider:

Adcock – with Mr Drummond back, what will the c0ck’s role be this year?
Suckers – is reliable, but his his ceiling is about 90 ave imo.
ASelwood – Woosha played him a lot as a tagger last year.
Also, might be a bit thin in rucks.

I read some where last year he’s a promising rook who got injured but is now doing well.

He’s worth 178k.

D Mac, I’m hearing around the traps that’s he’s over his injury issues, and that NM rate him very highly!

I expect him to get some good game time this year (injuries permitting). As always though, look at the NAB Cup to see how he goes.

Im a hawks supporter.
Id be more inclined to go with suckling than birchall, suckling has alot more improving to do as where birchall doesnt IMO

Lake is a major punt, hopefully he gets games & is fit
Assuming you know this anyway :-)

Johnno brown is no good.
Swap him for a midpricer who you think might have a break out year.

Use that leftover money to add another premium midfielder.

Keep your eye on fyfe, he was injured at the end of last year.
Make sure there’s no doubts on his fitness.

The 230k youve spent on porplyzia!!!
Keep your eye out in the NAB cup, theyre will be cheaper guys than him that will get games at the start of the year. Find 1 and use the left over money on your rucks.

Other than that, it looks good.
Cant really say much about rookies etc till NAB cup.

There was an article in the herald sun recently that talked about lead up fwds being basically dead in terms of supercoach value.

Although N.Roo and Browny look good value because of theyre returns last year I personally think theyre past there best. And also theyre to reliant on there team mates having a good game.

If a teams midfield doesnt deliver, either does the lead up fwd that gets the ball they kick into the fwd line.

Hence why Buddy scores so well, he moves way up the ground to get his own ball.

You have probably taken all this into consideration and are just taking the rick but with Lake in there to, your taking a considerable risk with 3 players.

Id take Roo over browny if I HAD to choose.

PS: N.Roo is not in my team at the moment but who knows what will happen in the next 10 weeks!!!

I like Bower – reckon he’s going to be back to his best this year. The guy only turned 24 last week – I had no idea he was still so young!
Lake on the other hand is gonna be 30. Too old for me.
There’s a few blokes in there who had persistent injury worries last year – Drummond, Lake, Rioli, Riewoldt and Brown – I’d reduce the team by 2 or 3 of those to minimise your overall risk.

Hi Supercaochers

Nice to be in 2012 … even better to get stuck into Supercoach! I am finding it more difficult this year with some high prices rookies, but here is my first crack.

B: Goddard, Lids, Birchall, Lake, M.Clarke, Buntine, Docherty, (Ellis, L.Brown)

R: Sandi, McEvoy (Giles, Stevenson)
F: Buddy, Stevie J, Dusty, Danger, J.Brown, Porp, Saad (Trelor, Zorko)
Cash: 71K

I count 11 premiums (including Dusty and Lenny) plus 3 that could be premiums or there abouts by seasons end (Scully, Danger and Lake). Who knows what J.Brown and Porp will do …

What do you think?

Rioli is a big risk, he will not find his way into my team.

Pattison won’t play. He’ll have Big Max, Hale and Roughnut ahead of him (obviously) but they also been grooming Lowden and Grimley for a few years now and if need be they would be looking at one of those two first. Pattison is purely last resort material if Bailey blows out and Roughead can’t make it back and even then he’ll struggle. Oh yeah, and he’s a bit shit.

You must be confident of Phil Davis to score well … i do not rate his scoring ability that highly I will watch the pre-season. And I hope Sylvia stays fit and out of the tribunal for you.

Good distribution Nick.
I cam top 50 last year so im going for overall, are you? becuase if so you will need to change your forward lineup.
Come round 13 you will have zero forward premiums, and need to bench them all ;)

My first draft team for the season i would say 1/2-3/4 of the rookies and cheap player will change before the season starts coz thats only 2 hours of rookie reseach done to start the season wont reseach again until nab cub starts though

There is 13 premiums + Lake who i would count as a premium so thats a good start. I have a very strong backs and mids line up only because IMO the forward premiums are $#!t are dont produce the scorres everyone wants

Unlike most other teams I have only gone for one premium ruck atm it might change but unlike other years it looks like the ruck rookies might be half good this year plus cox is worth a lot hard to fit in the budget

Havnt though too much about the byes yet but have notice there is no good afl team (for premiums) in the round 11 bye i would say round 12 and 13 just about everyone will a few zeros

Smokin’ midfield that will resemble what many of us will want to end up with, nice D line to start with, I can see that you want to grow your F line through trading, and is that a 1 prem/3 rookie ruck strategy you are running?
I forgot about J. McDonald. Nice Team.

Paul January 14, 2012 at 3:44 pm

Funny thing i am think of upgrading one back, mid and ruck before upgrading the forward line

Well the ruck rookies look good this year so thats why i have gone for 1 prem 3 rookie as your going to have 3 players fight over just one poistion so you always have cover plus thinking of dpp rowe with someone else in the forword line so it would be 4 players to cover 1 postion and atleast one of the 4 should score well. I have heard and seen people going with 0 prem and 4 rookies but thats way too risky and they are missing out on sandi as well.

With the forword line i know i will just about have the weakest forward line to start off with only having 2 prems leaving me with 5 onfield rookies however thinking of having my 2 mid beach players forward dpp and one back beach dpp forward as well as the ruck so with the 5 onfield rookie options i will have 11 rookies to chose from

Now for the hard part to find out the right forward rookies mainly the ones with dpp before round 1

I’ve noticed that there is some love in the 1 prem/3 rookie Ruck set up, but am a personal fan of getting the rucks settled asap. I am not certain that Cox/Sandi will give the same value as previous seasons, so am looking to the next wave of ruck stocks.
One of the choices we make as coaches is how we balance the prems throughout our side, do we stack particular lines, do we try to get @ least a particular number on every line?
For shits and giggles, I’m going to build a more orthodox G’n’R team and see how that stacks up with what I’ve got.
Incidentally, I know nothing of Giles. Anyone got the good oil?

Giles is a mature age players 201cm and spent the last 4 years at Port. Giles will be the no.1 ruck at GWS and will do the same role as Zac Smith last year. Giles is no real secert he will be one of the mosted picked in 2012 i would say he will be in 250k teams of 400k teams only priced at 126k

Don’t disagree with your assessment Paul, although in my own defence, I’ll state that they are all speculative picks that may or may not survive the ‘rough and tumble’ of the 2012 Super Coach Pre-Season.
My belief @ this stage is that those players have the motivation & ability to grow & will hopefully, mature in enough value to pair off with rookies to get prems, or become prems in their own right.
I like the positional flexibility in this team, and hope to maintain that flexibility as I move toward the team that’ll represent HGL in the season proper & hopefully do better than last year.
Funny thing is that I voted for Pendlebury in the poll!!
I haven’t considered byes yet, so, once I do, I’ll have to revamp this team somewhat. …… damn byes.

Of the 5 name i pointed out Scully is the one i disagree with the most its a waste of 423k also he going to be in the worst team for 2012. All 6 midfield spots are worth more than gold and wasted on an ok player and if you planned on upgrading him on later in the season your wasting 1 of 24 trades your better off upgrading him now. Also dont like that you just got gibbs in there now. I would have gibbs in my team if he could go in any other poistion but the midfield.

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

Happy Go Lucky January 14, 2012 at 4:11 pm

Scully is tracking well in pre-season and could be a surprise. I don’t expect him to av 120+, but 90-110 is not out of the question. Someone in the GWS midfield has to get the pill and I suspect he’ll get his hands on it often enough. Some of the prems may come down in value early doors, and I’d like to get on the Selwood/Pendlebury/Murphy’s @ that point given that we can’t fit everyone in at the git go.
I’m not bullish on Scully, but, will be tracking him through the pre-season with interest.
I agree about preferring Gibbs as a D, but he did avg a tick over 100 and should improve his scoring again this year. The question is by how much? Is it too un-realistic to think that he can break out to over 120ppg? If so, he becomes an astute pick up. Maybe 10-15 is a more realistic option, which is still quite valuable if @ the end of all the upgrades you have someone avg 115 as your M5 or 6.
Swallow, whilst cheaper will possibly only improve to about 90-105 ppg, which means he gets upgraded, but frees up 130k to bolster somewhere else.
Of course, I could always turn Gibbs/Scully into Prem/Rookie and that is prob what you are suggesting, and you may well be correct.

Tend to agree on Swallow, Gibbs being much of a muchness and have been swirling that around in my mind.
I think Didak represents value. He missed pre-season last year & will improve this year with a full one.
I think Clarke will be fine & will prove to be a good pick up, although, HGL may be blighted by tonal vision making this claim.
I’m looking at Roo to fire up under a new coach with a new game plan.
Morabito is a gamble.
How much improvement are you expecting out of Gibbs this year? Surely this has to be the year he steps into the elite mid category?
Want to find room for Murphy or Pendles, and I’m keen on Mundy/Priddis.

You’ve picked up that Stiffy, Lake and Grimes are risks and you’re right to watch them (and everybody else in the comp in the PS) but Grimes’ injuries won’t become apparent in 3 weeks. If he’s stuffed (and I highly suspect he is) he’ll suddenly go down late in the first half of the season. Even if it doens’t take until the 2nd half of the season its still a trade that you don’t want to have to make – look elsewhere.
I’ve got the same concerns about The Porpoise. Even if he doesn’t go down, there’s still better value elsewhere. In 2010 he played 19 games and still only averaged 70.

I would suggest many coaches would cast an eye over these two when looking for mid prices ready to take the next step. They are obviously not 2011 guns but most would agree they have potential to be premiums in 2012. The problem is the difference between potential and actual can be months or sometimes years. They are not in my team but I can see why Zaha has considered them.

had another go today, tried to squeeze in another quality player. also as backline rookies are a lot harder to find than midfield rookies i will be trying a 6-2-2-5 line up this year

deano my guns and rookies strategy works on a captian worth 700000, 14 premiums averaging around 500000 each and 15 rookies averaging around $140000

zaharakis and heppell may not be considered elite but if i only went for outright elite players (550,000+) then i could only really fit 13 of them in rather than 14 or 15 that i have managed below

My first up team

DEF: B. Goddard, B. Deledio, H. Shaw, B. Waters, J. Grimes, B. Ellis, L. Spurr (S. Morris, L. Brown)
MID: S. Pendlebury, G. Ablett jnr, J. Selwood, S. Docherty, D. Pfeiffer, D. Shiel (J. McDonald, T. Mitchell)
RUC: S. Mumford, B. McEvoy (J. Giles, O. Stephenson)
FWD: L. Franklin, N. Fyfe, D. Beams, D. Martin, S. Clifton, D. Zorko, B. Smedts (A. Saad, T. Couch)
CASH LEFT: $240,000

I have taken into account the byes and as far as it goes my strategy is as follows:

While most are considering bye strategies to use in their initial teams and therefore are limiting the number of players having byes in the same round for each line throughout their whoel teams, i am only doing so for my non rookie players.

The thing i figure is that at round 12 i should have a few rookies at the least upgraded which means if i did take rookie byes into account intially then my plan would be screwed when i upgrade anyhow.

What i have done is;

Backs – 5 non rookies and 4 rookies – Out of the 5 non rookies two players must have byes in round 11, 12 or 13 (say round 13) and another two must have byes in round 11,12 or 13 (can’t be the same as the previous two (say round 12) you are therefore left with 2 round 12 bye players and 2 round 13 bye players, which means that you must now pick a non rookie with a round 11 bye.

eg.
DEF: B. Goddard(13), B. Deledio(13), H. Shaw(12), B. Waters(11), J. Grimes(12), B. Ellis(R), L. Spurr(R) (S. Morris(R), L. Brown(R))

The same working for backs will work with forwards (Although i have decided to stock up on an extra rookie)

eg.
FWD: L. Franklin(13), N. Fyfe(12), D. Beams(12), D. Martin(13), S. Clifton(11), D. Zorko(R), B.Smedts(R) (A. Saad(R), T. Couch(R))

Now for rucks it is as simple as set and forget, so you must have two premiums with different round byes say 12 & 11, then for your rookies, one must be the same as one of your premiums, while the other has to 13 in the scenario that your premiums are byes 12 and 11.

eg.
RUC: S. Mumford(12), B. McEvoy(13) (J. Giles(11), O. Stephenson(12))

Now for Mids it is a similar set up to the backs and forwards strategy, however you can pick 2 players with a bye in one of rounds 11, 12 or 13 (say 12) then pick 1 player from bye rounds 11 and 13. (however i have decided to pick 3 non rookies and 5 rookies)

eg.
MID: S. Pendlebury(12), G. Ablett jnr(13), J. Selwood(12), S. Docherty(11), D. Pfeiffer(R), D. Shiel(R) (J. McDonald(R), T. Mitchell(R))

It is pretty confusing but is an idea i have been able to wrap my brain around.

Nice to see you back WD-40 ;) ,
- L. Spurr is on the rookie list so you’ll need to keep an eye on that one.
- J. McDonald is 35 going on 60  and I don’t think he’ll get many games, why not go for a top rook instead?
- Fyfe is still recovering from his groin op/injury and hasn’t trained fully as yet.

Like your 3 gun mid but I think you’ve spent a tad too much in the fwd line.

Decided on McDonald, mainly due to the fact that i believe GWS will give him lots of gametime in the younger guys first year, where as most dont think that will happen. Even at an old age McDonald has shown he can score well and mainly as a tagger also.

Fyfe is still up in the air for me depending on nab.

A ruck strategy of 1 potential-premium and three rookies with backup in S.Rowe. May be a master stroke or a disaster. Are you sure each of your rookies will play and score well?

Is Giles are good as Z.Smith?

Will S.Rowe play and get the ball?
Will Pattison get a game behind Bailey, Hale, Roughy?

A risky strategy to be sure that relies on Giles becoming something like a 70-85ppg player and either/both Rowe & Pattison playing regularly esp through the trades.
Ideally, I can trade into Cox after R 11 or Sandi R 12 or even McEvoy after 13 for the run home. Money saved will help cement other lines. Giles exposed pre-season will have a huge bearing on whether I can execute this strategy.
I’m bullish on Kruezer this season. Think he’ll have a big one.

Certainly worth considering, lets hope he can be the z.smith of 2012.

I have Kreuz on the radar also, nice choice.

I also like Broughton, have had him the past two years. It does seem he carries injuries a bit and I am not confident of the role Lyon will give him. Might be worth the risk though.

I have the same reservations about Broughton and he may end up as someone else before we start, but he’s in the team now and the plan is for him to score well & play every week.
Freo has a good list and players will want to impress Lyon.

I suspect he was recruited as a depth player. They have Bailey, Roughy and Hale. After a horror run with rucks you cannot blame them for wanting a little insurance policy.

HGL I like Broughton too and if he plays more midfield he is a great scorer. I also rate Birchall and Bock for around the same price.

I’m willing to take the risk on Riewoldt and Brown, if anything I think I can at least make a few dollars on them before injury, as with Drummond, should go up before an injury hits.

Well here is my first crack for 2012, the main core is pretty much set just have to wait till the NAB cup to sight the rookies..

Def
Goddard, Lake, Scotland, Bower, Guthrie, Clark – Buntine, Morris
Mid
Yablett, Swan, Watson, Murphy, Coniglio, Morabito – Haynes, Brown
Ruck
Mummy, Sandipants – Giles, Rowe
Fwd
Buddy, Martin, Fyfe, Porplyzia, Clifton, Saad, Walsh – Zorko, Dickson

Undecided on whether to go Murphy or Selwood.. And I cant help but think the forward line is a little weak..

My view on Phil Davis is simply that the ball will spend a lot of time in their back line and someone is going to get touches.

Version 2.0

The Rusty Trombones

Goddard Enright Delidio Lake Davis Marty Clarke smedts ( Heath Wilkes )

Selwood Watson Cooney Barlow Scotland morrabito ( heynes docherty )

Nic Nat leunberger/mcevoy ( Giles big o )

Beams Martin zaha chappy porpoise izzy Tomlinson ( Rowe pattinson)

Forward line needs work struggling for rookies at this time. Bring on the footy is all I can say.

Yeah I sort of agree with you there, might look to off load Morabito and Porps. Do you know the extent of Fyfe’s injury?

Excluding last year Sandi had only missed 5 games in 3 years so I am more than happy to keep him there.

This will be my first season with Murphy, so hope he’ll shine.. Thought Selwood could go to a whole new level once he gets the captaincy..

The burden of having to perform with a few team mates retiring and young guys coming in, and leading the club might have the opposite effect…you never know. Look at sammy mitchell, got rid of the captaincy and had his best year!
Murphy is the safe option.

“Fyfe (groin and shoulder) both had post-season surgery, while the club has taken a cautious approach with Morabito’s return from a full knee reconstruction.

Pavlich said all three had shown encouraging signs and should be fit to take part in pre-season games, with the club launching its NAB Cup campaign against West Coast and Essendon at Patersons Stadium on February 19.

“Fyfe and Mundy should be pretty close to joining in next week, some portion of training. That’s really pleasing,” Pavlich said on Thursday at the annual team photo shoot in Fremantle.

“Certainly Nat’s progressed really well over the last couple of weeks.”

Sounds like hes ok but with other options in the fwd line i wouldnt risk it.

DEF – Deledio, H Shaw, B Lake, Buntine, M Clarke, P Bower, B Ellis (B Wilkes, B Smedts)
MID – Goddard, GAZ, Swan, Murphy, Selwood, D Martin (N Haynes, S Clifton)
RUC – McEvoy, Giles (O Stephenson, A Pattinson)
FWD – Franklin, D Beams, Zaharakis A Tomlinson, D Pfeiffer, A Saad, S Rowe (T Walsh, D Zorko)

Leaves me with a massive $868k, so I think I need to do some upgrading. FWDs and RUCs look weak.
Going for a league win and will get smashed in r13 (Deledio, GAZ, Murphy, Martin, McEvoy, Franklin) r12 doesn’t look great either (Shaw, Swan, Selwood, Beams, Zaharakis)

Will use early upgrades and sideways trades to cover Rd 13 as best possible given we have an extra 4.

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

Deano January 18, 2012 at 12:05 am

Never sold this early mate but my strategy and reasoning is this:

- NicNat will be the next AFL phenomenum. This year he will showcase that talent hopefully with two good shoulders. It still astounds me that most Eastern Staters (including so called informed commentators) still talk about “when he learns the game he could be good” coming from Fiji. He was actually born in Sydney and has played AFL all his life after moving to Perth as a 2YO.
His game is also very suited to SC scoring with his contested posessions and influence on the game; and

- Giles will be similar to Smith last year if all reports are accurate. The other aspect behind considering the on field rookie ruck option is that with last year’s changes to the CD scoring system, rucks benefited the most. He therefore represents a reliable rookie sure to play that should average ~ 90 with O as backup. Coniglio et al will struggle to match this so it gives me the ability to have 5 Premiums in my midfield.

Would expect to trade Giles for a premium prior to rd 11 with backup from O to cover through 12/13 or maybe Rowe would be able to cover on DPP if he stands up.
As indicated before, a sideways trade may also be an option at the time.

Still got to my head around the new sideways trading properly and figure out the best way to use it. Reckon it could be a massive key this year. Less need for fwd/mid, def/mid combos to switch and cover the constant byes like last year. The new system could be a really handy way to jump on players on the bubble that might have been missed in the past because of structure.

I wouldn’t have Varcoe, too inconsistent I was luckily enough not to grab him last year with some hype around him getting midfield time. You have to many midpricers for my fancy but if thats the stratergy you want then thats cool. Obviously Lake is a worry but could pay off. Rucks are good, midfield is good although maybe not Watson just with his hammy’s, but could be wrong coz he was on track for brownlow last year until injured. And McGlynn as Motts has told us all about. Im not sold on Zaharakis (this coming from a bombers fan), maybe Pav or Goodes are always solid performers.

Get rid of O’Keefe to expensive and if you really want him pick him in the midfield so you can change him with Martin in case either one gets injuried and you have no back ups in the midfield or forward line so you dont get sucked into using a trade. Get rid of Macdonald wont play enough games and will play as a forward tagger in the ones he does Put Sam Docherty in the Midfield so you can swap Goddard and Deleido into the midfield if you need. Bock not worth 508 have a look at Grimes and Lake Lake is up and going and Grimes was held back by Melbourne last year could of played the last few games both will have a massive year but that’s only my opinon. Last year Giles averaged 115SC ppg apparently ( I read it here somewhere) I know that wasnt against great opposition, but 75 ppg would be ok by me.

Both Kreuz and Maric are not gonna be the top 4-5 ruckmen at end of year so your gonna have to get rid of them eventually therefore wasting trades. Always buy the best people in there positions from the start. Thats y the guns and rookie stratergy is the best coz midpricers wont become premiums (usually) and ul waste a trade on them or keep them losing 20-30 points each week. I go for a set and forget with rucks usually Cox and Sandilands but might mix it up with Sandi and berger with two rookies.

Very strong midfield, although might be better downgrading Coniglio to someone like Shiel and saving yourself $80,000 to upgrade your forwards, which seem 1 premium too short. However I love your rucks, going the same combo. I think NicNat will absolutely smash it this year!!

I still reckon that Sandi will be a big scorer and He was a huge scorer until he went down. Lyon will have the best big man in the business on the field as much as possible. I know everyone will say ‘wtf, Stanton?’ but he scores well each week and I will use him to get up to Pendles or Murphy after a few of the rookies come on and the gap won’t be as big. A lot of people are shitting on Brown but it was only his not and not a structural thing like a knee or shoulder, He’ll be back.

Juddy, do you realise that Zaha is injured atm, Goodes had a ripper year last year, so can he back it up again? He may become more of a forward in 2012, considering his age. HUGE question marks over Ricky Lake and Bower (may not be in their team’s best 21, let alone remaining injury-free. Morris is also apparently in Richmonds rehab group. I’m cool with brown though. His body is fresh and he can average over 100 easy.

Are you sure Zaharakis is injured. He’s talked about playing through injury and pain last year but has still been on the track for most of the preseason. He mentioned he has been hurting but that could be read as just being smashed in the usual preseason hit out.

Apparantly he’s suffered from tendonitis in his knee which can be degenerative and therefore highly risky from a SC perspective.

Bender January 20, 2012 at 2:57 am

Injured in the sense that he has knee tendinitis and only started running in December, but still pronounced himself sorer than he had been in any of his previous three years at the club. Also with Hocking and Watson both back on the park this year, he may not spend as much time in the middle of the ground.

Juddy but not THE Juddy January 20, 2012 at 6:36 am

I can see that bower may struggle for the teams best 21 but no worse off than any other rookie for potential game time and does have the bigger body and experience. If not for injury last year he would have played and at that price is worth the risk at this stage. Lake is in the best 22 because the bulldog backline was SHIT at its best last year. If he is over his injury and issues with Rocket he will be back for sure IMO. I think the Swannies will be able to put Goodes further up the ground as they have a better target this year in Sam Reid and word is that Jessie White has been improving in that area so we will see. Didn’t know about Morris in rehab group or Zaka still carrying an injury. I might see if I can free up a little more cash as I hear y’all about stanton and Watson in the same midfield but when the bye actually comes around I would probably already up graded him to Pendles or Murphy anyway. HMMMMMMMM.

No Goddard? That’s a first! Drummond is too injury prone IMO, you are better off downgrading him to a rookie like Morris or Mohr and upgrading Russell to Goddard or another premium.

I like Cotchin. Appears to be a unique pick this year, with everyone going Deledio and Martin because of their DPP. But again, you will be better off upgrading either Bastinac or McKenzie to a premium and downgrading the other to a rookie like Zorko or Docherty.

If Trent West is injury free, he could be a good pick because Geelong will play him. But you are missing out by not having Giles in your side. All signs point to him being the Zac Smith of this year.

I heard that Hurley strained his hamstring not long ago so I would be wary about picking him up. Karnezis looks like he will be a good player in the future for Brisbane, but he is not a high SC scorer. And again, a side without Buddy is just missing out on so much!

As far as the byes go I’ve got an 11/10/9 split. Both my 1 & 2 rucks are out in Rd 11 but I’d be looking at upgrading Giles and hopefully either Rowe or Big O will be getting a gig by then. The rest are rookies. Hopefully that extra week can help me cover the 5 prem/semi prems I have out in Rd 12 & 13.

I want to go easy on the trades early so I can do some serious upgrading during and leading into that bye period. If we get a bit of luck with the rooks we start off with then that time of year should be all hands to the pumps in the milking sheds.

I like it a lot!!! One of the best I have seen!

I am a huge fan of Naitanui and reckon he will have a HUGE year! Many people seem to be going with just the 1 premium ruck, not sure how that will come off. Personally I reckon you are better going with the 2 top flight rucks from the beginning.

O’Keefe looks to be a unique pick this year, my only question is on consistency. He is capable of the 140+ games but he has played in his fair share of sub 60 games.

Also I am afraid that Heppell might suffer from the 2nd year blues. Always a worry of mine when picking my SC team. Just wonder if you would be better going for someone like Johncock or Hurn, who are around the same price.

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

Fishtopher January 21, 2012 at 12:50 am

Cheers bro.

I was really torn on the rucks but reckon I’ll stick with this format. Went two guns from the start last year and it was perfect until 211 went down. Also had Zac Smith from the start and I think that’s what is swaying me towards having a punt. Giles is a huge chance to play 22 barring injury and only really need him to play ten decent games. Plus Stephenson will definitely get a crack and there’s plenty of buzz around Rowe. Good enough back up for mine.

I’ll back ROK to average 100+ and I’m pretty confident with Heppell too, although I have teetered a bit on that one. Just think he showed too much class and poise last year to not back it up. His role also means that he shouldn’t get shut down too easily like a young midfielder or forward.

I think ruck strategy will be a key this year. NAB Cup will be important as always to see how the ruck rookies are shaping up.

Do you think Giles will be as good as Zac Smith points wise?

Is the Big O third in line behind West and Vardy?

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

Fishtopher January 21, 2012 at 12:27 pm

Giles will obviously get similar opportunities to what Smith got and apparently he averaged about 110 last year so he obviously know how to score. Won’t go near that against the big boys but 70 or 80 will do to get him up to a gun by Rd 11.

I also can’t see why if Geelong weren’t going to play Stephensen at age 29 then they would have gone for a junior they could develop over time.

Fishman, I think the Cats feel that they have enough young ruckmen in West, Simpson, Vardy, Bathie and Hawkins part-time, however with Simpson and Vardy injured, they probably needed some experience to step in should something happen to West.

Here is what i believe is a good balance team and also structure in the byes
Byes format is 2/3/4 – 2/2/4 – 1/2/1 – 3/3/3 = 8/10/12
Before round 11 comes i will do one r11 forword down grade to have cash in the bank and then no r11 trading is required.

Given the forward line has 3 onfield rookies i have got a C/F and B/F link so there is more optoins to chose from and extra cover if needed

I have Beams in my team but im not sold on him yet depending on how the rest of the pre-season and nab cup goes it could be some other forword premium

Dylan Sheils is missing from the team but its hard to fit him in of the 4 mid rookies spots well 3 coz i need one spot for the C/F link but Sheils, Coniglio, Stevens, Horsely are fighting for spots but one must miss out i think nab cub will tell me who misses out

Other than that i believe this will be my template going into season 2012

Nice bad Paul. Too early for rookie talk yet, however a couple of considerations.

Broughton – Gamble at this stage until we know how Lyon will play him.
Scotland – as good as he was, I think he’s over priced this year.
Selwood – a gun obviously, but what impact will have the captaincy have on his performance?
Giles – risky going in with 3 rookies int he rucks. Giles may be good but GWS will get obliterated this year, worse than GC. I don’t think he’ll score as well as people think. He’s on my bench. I’ve got L’berger and West as starting rucks.
FWDs – Reckon you might be a bit short up front. You could downgrade say Scotland, Murphy and Selwood, lose 10-15 points each and upgrade a couple forwards and gain 20-25 each.

In terms of strategy, I think everyone will struggle with the byes so I’m not too worried about them. It’s too hard at the start of the season to make a proper assessment as there are so many uncertainties until the bye rounds start. Just by normal team selection you will get a fairly even spread (but should have no more than 4 bye players in each line). The real strategy will come at rounds 6-7 when you have a better idea of who’s scoring well and injuries and you can start to set your team up for the byes with downgrades/upgrades.

Im not worry about Broughton at all he will score about 100
Scotland will average over 100 its what everone else wants plus the options in backline arnt that great for players to score 100+ fisher would be the other only one to do that
Selwood just because he has a title now doesnt mean he all of a sudden has become a 5-10 ppg worst player than what is was and he is 24 its not like he is 30 and over the hill
Giles, Rowe, Stephenson are 3 strong ruck rookies and if for some reason giles misses a game which i dont see happening or starts scoring bad there is still two other really good backs up who are just as good or even better than Giles so thats no problem
I know im short in the forward line that why there is a B/F and C/F link to have 2 extra players for the forward line
All in all i dont see a problem

I tend to agree with you about Giles. I am tempted by the three ruck rookies but I am not confident a this stage. The question is will Giles score like Zac Smith or Renouf?

On Scotland. I do think he will still be in the top 10 defenders this year and in a potential top four team. Still a worthy selection. Having said that Carlton do play some heavy weights between rounds 3 and 13 so I can see the argument for waiting to pick him up later.

No recognised ruck and Derrickx looks to be your biggest gamble imo.
You’ll be well positioned if all 4 play. Given that I presently have 3 of your rucks, I’ll be happy too.
I am wondering if Enright’s best scoring is behind him & if Scotland’s numbers will be effected by the following factors:
1. Age
2. Increased production from Yarran.
3. The presence/roles of Russell/Carazzo & Bower.
Apart from that your overall structure is sound enough for what we know at this stage, the money you have saved in the rucks looks well spent in your mids & fwds. Defence looks to have a few potential cash cows in it. Your midfield is one of the strongest that I’ve seen thus far.
How are you positioned for byes, and, how much salary cap left over?

With all the D/M dpp’s you have in your back line, I suggest you should shift one or pick up a D/M rookie in your mids as a link. Same goes with your fwd line, try to link your dpp’s with a mid, i.e Zorko into your mids.

Massive doubt for RD1 but when he does come there’s no chance he’ll play ruck only. If anything they’ll keep him away from ruck duties. That was the extra work that shot him in the foot last year.

You would expect that there’s no way they’d risk playing him in the ruck coming off an achilles which is where he significantly improved his average. On that basis he will bleed big $$ in the first half of the season.
I see him as a great potential upgrade option for Giles/O should he regain late ’11 form and be able to DPP with Rowe/Lycett.

Yes. Big Russ’ third person work is first rate. Hurn would be a good option @ a D6 or 7, but is too expensive in a market that offers a fair bit of value.
Yet, HGL is intrigued by Motts’ bullish enthusiasm about Puopolo. Presumably Motts believes that this fella is smarter than the average second year bear???

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

Motts January 25, 2012 at 10:47 am

Indeed Motts does. They breed ‘em pretty smart at Norwood.

But putting my PP bullishness aside for a second, the other players I like around Hurny’s price are: Johncock, Rance, Heppell, and I actually reckon Silvagni is a bargain for $410k.

Thanks gents…. All reports suggest Hurn has increased his endurance so Im hoping some more time spent in the midfield will pick up some more kicks than in the past.

What class ruckman should I get other than Cox, Sandi is too injury prone and the others have only put in one good year as far as im concerned…

Hey guys, back for another great year of supercoach!

Very early stages obviously but this is my first draft. Doubt this will look anything my final team, but it is very fun just starting it early! So here it is anyway!

Goddard, Delidio, Shaw, Broughton, M Clarke, Ellis, Mohr
(Smedts, WIlkes)

Pendles, Gazza, Murphy, Barlow, Tyson, Kavanah
(Shiel, Pfeiffer)

Naitanui, Giles
(Rowe, Stephenson)

Franklin, Fyfe, O’keefe, Martin, Sidebottom, Tomlinson, Zorko
(Saad, Cameron)

Going guns and rookies this year as IMO better strategy than midprices. Probably have a few too many giants at the minute but that will most likely change closer to round 1. I like nic nat as a unique and i think he will explode this year.

I would like to hear your thoughts on my first team.

Thanks guys!

I like it B-land. Only ones I’d query would be Broughton (will he get as much midfield time this year?) and Wingard (was warned off him by a Sturt barracking mate of mine who lives in Adelaide).

And your Leuie reasoning in the other post was sound.

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

B-lander January 30, 2012 at 6:36 pm

Thanks Motts – I am a bit worried about Broughton but I read an interview with him saying he is fitter than he has ever been, and I’m hoping Lyon won’t play him in a shutdown role that killed his average last season.

Your mate would have seen more of Wingard than me so I’ll look at trading him out, there’s plenty of other options at that price.

Just don’t know how he’s going to react to Buckley’s micromanaging style. Strikes me as a bit of a rebel and I don’t think he and Bucks will get along leading to personality differences, attitude issues and reduced game time.

Think Enright is past his best. Surely Pendlebury can’t maintain his current price. Morabito is a risk. Are Priddis and Gibbs top 10 midfielders, probably, but I think there are safer picks. I’ve been tempted by 3 ruck rookies, but I prefer Rowe in my FWDs and 2 set and forget rucks. Porp is risky. Good luck

To be honest I don’t like it. Dawson and Glass in the backline will give you zip and at there price and below you can do better. Swallow and Gaff in mids is too light on for me as M4 and M5. The less said about the forward line the better but Roo-questionable knees, Gumbleton-Pffft and Morton would have better out there for his price. I would combine Glass and Dawson and get maybe Yarran and Ellis (rookie) or if you have a little more cash the upgrade from Yarran. Then maybe combine Swallow and Gaff to get McDonald and your choice of Dal Santo or Priddis etc. People laugh at the McDonald option but in the GWS midfield, even if he get ave 50-60 he will still go up in price and has more potential to get higher than more than 3/4 of other newbies.

Midfeild is very good but that means your backs and forwards are a worry. Personally get off Gia and Chappy (old) and Smith. Get Goddard in your backline and introduce a rookie in your midfield. Get on J Brown as well. But yes good side its the guns and rookie stratergy which is my plan as well.

Backline is a problem. Get rid of Frawley, Grima, Drummond and Stratton. They’re to midprice and their that price for a reason. Downgrade one and upgrade the others to people like Broughton, Suckling. Get Deledio in your backline as well. JKennedy could be good POD.

Rucks need work keep McIntosh but upgrade Bailey to a premium such as Mumford. And forward line is alright but wouldn’t have Hurley (injured) and Hawkins.

Flynny, I’d be getting rid of sc duds like Dawson and Blake; bring in a rookie for one and ugrade the other to a premium. Not sure Bastinac is value for money, as he is awkwardly priced, unless you think he’ll turn into 100+ ave player. I don’t. Ziebell is a much better prospect for a little more coin. Or you could downgrade him to a rookie and ugrade a couple of the forwards. Zaharakis has knee tendonitis so keep an eye on him. Also, find a way to get Goddard and Gablett in your side!

Way too many midprice players. Obviously thats your strategy. Worried about Didak, Brown, Tippet, Gray, NRoo, Winderlich, Ebert, Dangerfield, Waters, Grimes, Lake.

I would prob keep Brown. And maybe think of keeping Didak, NRoo, Lake, and even Dangerfield everyone else I would either downgrade to a rookie or upgrade to a proven star. The people I listed are injuries waiting to happen. And then you will waste way too many trades which are like gold.

At the rate i’m researching/trading… by lockout i’ll have none of these players in my team, lol……….thinking if i must trade a few cows out at around 11-13 then i better have something to trade…so have a few expensive rookies in this (draft) team.

Leuenberger, T West,

Not bad Jayden. Quite a few PODs in there! Though I would re-check your mid rookie selections during the NAB Cup. Maybe downgrade Gaff to a mid rookie, and upgrade one of Yarran/Hurn/Grimace to Deledio. With the 3 rookie ruck strategy I think you should look at having one ultra premium ruck like Sandy, Mummy, Cox etc. Kreuzer is a bit of gamble as your top ruck. Avoid Magic Door (Daw) as he has just been suspended by NM and probably won’t get any game time in the first stage of season or at all. Look at Stephenson from the Catters. You have a lot of key position players in the forward line. Try juggling Petrie/Hawkins/Butcher around to come up with another rookie and a maybe another premium mid/for DPP.

Hi guys

Going for a second season of Supercoach and I’ve hit a brick wall with my team. Suggestions? Think I probably need more prems in defence but I’m stuck for cash ($8800 left). Would love feedback on my ruck too…

DEF: Goddard / Shaw / Astbury / Clarke / Tomlinson / A.Browne / Mohr (Sierakowski / Wilkes)

MID: Ablett / Swan / Mitchell / Murphy / OKeefe / Treloar (L.Brown / Mitchell)

RUC: Cox / Roughead (Big O / Witts)

FWD: Rioli / Franklin / Fyfe / J.Brown / Nicoski / Pfeiffer / Zorko (Smedts / Hamling)

Just realised that I seem to have a lot of ‘Brown(e)s’… Hmm

Also would love to join a league or two if anyone will have me.

Gab, how much coin you got left? Your backline is way too thin. Downgrade O’Keefe to a rookie (4 prem mids should be enough) and upgrade Astbury to Deledio. Then with the left over coin upgrade Nicoski to someone who not crap (O’Keefe if your hellbent on him). Essentially you’ve gained Deledio/mid rookie for Astbury/Nicoski. I’d say your at least 45 points better off.

Carteful of Fyfe (off season shoulder op) and Ruffhead (achilles are tough to come from) who could be slow starters.

Thanks for the advice. I know my Ruff move is risky but I like it for its unique aspect. I took all your other advice though: Astbury is now Deledio, Okeefe is Shiel, Fyfe is Dangerfield and Nicoski is StevieJ

Backline needs some serious work.

Not sure why Dempsey’s name is coming up. I don’t see him having any more upside than players who are more than $150k less. In saying that you already have enough DEF rookies so you need to upgrade him.

Same with Kane Lucas. Will struggle for gametime in the blues midfield and you can get yourself another $100k+ with someone like Shiel.

Personally i’d swap either Brown or Christensen to rookies giving you at least $200k. That plus the $100k+ from Lucas means you can upgrade Dempsey to a proper gun DEF. Probably have change over to get someone better than Carrots too.

Couch and Spurr aren’t necessarily bad picks but keep in mind they are both rookie listed so you would want them upgraded before RD1.

Out of last years top ten from each line you’ve only got four players and one of them is Carazzo. Dump him to start with and try to get a couple more proper guns.

Maybe trim something from Adcock/Broughton, Montagna/Moloney, Dahlaus/Christensen.

Liking Goddard, Scotland, Deledio, Fisher (although quite expensive) Wojcinski is also a nice pick as long as he keeps his place in the team.
Smedts and Morris are both risky.
Again Hampton and T Mitchell are risky also (look at coniglio from GWS)
Ruckman are fine, id have giles on the field though.
Forwards are nice apart from Zorko, id have Saad in there for him. Reserves for Forward look at Tommy Walsh from Sydney

Looks nice, except for the 4 premos in the back line with the rd 13 bye. I would get rid of one and use the cash to upgrade a fwd. walsh to fyfe?

Be sure to upgrade one of your cheap rucks before rd 11.

Andy

Hey guys just a rough draft, as you can see ive gone for the rookie rucks, the logic behind that is that by round 11 i should be able to upgrade for a berger or a cox as all the rucks are going to get alot of game time and are highly regarded. Despite all that i would like opinions on the team rookies that ive chosen and any alternatives. Thanks guys

Rookie Def:

A: Tomlinson (Thumbs up)
B: Smedts (Thumbs down)
Got a better idea (Comment)

Rest of backline is Deledio, Broughton, Grundy, Lake, Hargraves, B Ellis, Spurr & Bugg

Idea is the second will be dumped from forwards in place of a rookie (FWD/MID) to allow Fyfe to be moved into Forward line later in season.

What was your selection strategy, Rookie? You got lots of mid priced players and few guns. My experience with mid priced players is that despite the hype surrounding them in the preseason, most generally don’t live upto expectation or get injured (ie. Higgins has burnt many of us over the years). You might be taking a big risk by having so many, and with so many promising young rookies to make you money early on, you can afford to downgrade a few of them and purchase yourself some guns – like Buddy :-)

Hang in there and stick true to your gut if you’ve got a feeling about a player. People think I’m mad because I flat out refuse to have Ablett in my team (A. for a point of difference and B. because I don’t like him!) and after he won the Brownlow, my team The No Abletts won my league’s grand final :-) Made it again last year but thanks to Clarko for resting half of the guns from Hawthorn, my team fizzled in the Big One.

Back on topic, one thing to consider if you’re going to tweak your team, Adelaide and North Melbourne both play GC and GWS twice and have generally fairly easy draws, so you may want to consider some of their better players for your team. It’s unfortunate they both have the bye in the same round, so don’t stock up too heavily unless you plan to trade some of them out come round 11.

Good luck :)
