Warren’s Team
Backs – Godddard, Hodge, Kennelly, Malceski, J Hunt, Ladson, Maguire
Bench – P Davis & J Dare
Mids – Ablett, Hayes, Cooney, Rich, Morton, Palmer
Bench – Martin & Bastinac
Ruck – Tippett, Naitanui
Bench – Skipper & Cordy
Forwards – Chapman, O’Keefe, Franklin, Hurley, Murphy, Dangerfield, Ziebell
Bench – Hitchcock & Podsiadly
To Ablett or not to Ablett. That is the question. I’m glad Warren has submitted a team with him in because it goes to show exactly what sacrifices you need make/ risks you need to take in other areas of your team when GAJ takes that #1 spot in your guts. He’s built a team around a pretty impressive midfield but this has meant his bench in other areas is clearly quite light on. There are DPP’s all over the ground (except worringly for the ruck) but without someone on your bench who will play to cover them you’re flirting with a zero. The captaincy decision is a no-brainer every week. All up I’m giving this team an 8/10. Nice work.
Defenders – I like nearly every selection here. I struggle with Maguire being on the field – reckon there are better options available at that price but I reckon you’re only going to hold onto him for a couple of weeks and then flip him on the expected price rise. Phil Davis needs to lift – watch him this week – and I think its going to be pretty hard to break into the Blues backline for Joe Dare. I realise you probably had to buy a rook I just don’t know if this is the best one. I’m open to suggestions if anyone has any.
Mids – What’s not to like here? tappy’s Palmer rumour may throw a spanner in the works for you (it has for me) but everybody else here is rock solid including the bench.
Ruck – The bench is a little light here but you’ve gotta make concessions somewhere when you’re accomodating a $744k salary in the middle. Just pray Naitanui gets a run every week and Tippett continues his resilience from last year when he played all 22 regular season games.
Forwards – I’d probably like to see a Ruck DPP player here – either a Petrie, or bring Tippett down and pick another specialist Ruck, or even *gulp* Cameron Cloke just to give you some extra back-up with your talls. Hurley may need re-consideration if EFC expand his suspension into the regular season. Expect an announcement soon. Murphy’s great when healthy but only played 13 games last year. And you’re leaving it all on the field by having both Hitchcock and Podsiadly on your bench. Neither has played a game yet so you’re facing a possible egg if Murphy’s hamstring(s)/knee(s)/whatever(s) pack up early.
I said I’d only rate 4 teams but given tappy and toby have gone to the effort of posting theirs I’ll have a crack at them as well. I just can’t commit to when I’ll have it done by – hopefully I’ll get an opportunity over the weekend. Watch this space.
Postscript: For those of you wondering what I’m doing with Gaz: I’ve given this a hell of a lot of thought. A couple of weeks ago he was in but I’ve since changed my mind. His price is calculated on an average of 140. One hundred and forty every match. I just can’t see that kind of output continuing. And given that, I’m predicting that his price is going to drop. So my Gaz Strategy (today) is to leave him out of my first cut and burn the trade later bringing him in. Just have to hope I judge correctly when he’s going to bottom out.

Thanks Motts much appreciate the details, will have a look at the weak areas you mentioned and take into consideration your thoughts on Gary.
cheers and all the best with your team this year.
No worries Waz. You really haven’t got a whole lot to do. Pretty impressive bunch I thought.
what is the strategy regarding the DPP player?? i dont comprehend!!
My interpretation of this rule was actually wrong. The rules this year state that if you have a Forward who was selectable as a Ruck AND a Ruck originally also available as a Forward, you may now SUBSTITUTE the two between positions, without costing you a trade.
So if you’re going to take full advantage of this rule in the ruck you need to select Tippett AND Petrie. I already had Tippett so welcome to my team, Drew Petrie.
Lobbe for Port is a very cheap option for forward/ ruck DPP.
Nice spotting, Brad. Knew I’d miss one.
