Motts – try this one. Strategy with the 3 on field rookie mids is the scope for cash cow to upgrade using 6 trades for a full compliment of premiums by rd 7/8. Can’t see the potential in the fwd/def rookies for this so stacked these lines with premiems/potential keepers.

Enright, Hurn, Hodge, MacDonald, Gram, Ladson, B. Jones. (McGuire, Silvagni)
GAJ, Pendles, Ball, Trengove, Martin, Barlow. (Shuey, Banner)
Clark, McIntosh. (Warnock, McCauley)
Roo, Boomer, Higgins, Gray, Hall, Stevens, Danger (Rockliff, Hitchcock)

Stevens on the basis he will run the point for the Crows ala Ottens last year.
Cheers

Interesting strategy Deano. I like it! Enough to start fiddling around with my own team to see the effects of the extra $$$ having a 3rd rook in the midfield.

Not sure about BJ in your backline though. Don’t want to go with Hunt? Trying to differentiate?

Stevens in the forward line – could be a differentiator – he’ll either win it or lose it for you.

Hey stevo, have already got my tix for next Thursday night. It can’t come soon enough! We will belt the Tiges and ruin their entire season for the second year running.

Mate, do you mind putting your team into the same format as Deano above? I’m getting headaches trying to work out who’s playing where with the way you’ve set it out.

One of the secrets to SC, stevo, is to get the rookies who play early and then downgrade them later for other rookies who start playing later in the year and banking the difference. I love your allegiance to the Blues but do you honestly think Dare and Casboult are going to play early? My suggestion is to look for the R1 teams and then make a decision on which rooks you go with for your bench positions.

Grundy, Russell, and Tarrant are all interesting selections in your backline. The first two have showed in the preseason that they may be ready to elevate their games. Tarrant hasn’t. Bring Hodge into your backline for him – he shouldn’t be playing in your middle.

Warnock should not be on the field. Plain and simple. He’s a 3rd ruck this year.

Petrie will miss R1 due to suspension so if you’re happy to wear that then keep him. Rioli is rumoured to have OP so has to go. Ballantyne missed the final preseason game thru injury so watch for him to get named this week.

As much as I love the guy, Waite is risky. I’m going to watch his first few games before making a decision on him.

Hope that helps mate. I like the fact you’ve gone with some blokes that will differentiate you from the pack.

Cheers Motts – Hunt worries me with the “1st year back from ACL reco syndrome.” I’m tossing up between him, the eski and BJ and at this stage probably going to go with the unique. Stevens is the other unique I’m looking at as I think if Craigie can be trusted, the change in role and a fit Bock will be the key to premium status (fingers crossed.)

Rhys
I’m no expert however please consider the following:
Def- Waite will most probably take time to recover wioth no PS so if you’re keen on him best to wait to upgrade when he hits his straps (and price drops);
Hayden I don’t mind if he resumes his rebounding role of 2007 however with Duffield I doubt he’ll ave over 65 and then there’s the injury risk;
Waters although cheap is risky due to the change in role despite the PS form; and
Sheppard/Davis will probably not play in Rd 1 so look at Webberley/Mason from the Tiges and Silvagni from Freo who will be elevated to cover for Grover.
Midfield good but Chappy should be in your fwds so consider putting him in for Davis and bringing in Pendles/Gibbs to the Mids – good rook’s.
Rucks are vulnerable with Warnock on field so with the money saved in Mids push him to R3 and upgrade to a Hille/Ottens/Nicnat
Fwds – Watts will not play early – mark him down for 2013 as a lock. Also Rohan will compete with TDL (both Swans) for Rd ! so suggest you look at Rockliff/Pods/Hitchcock/Duncan as alternatives to assist with F7.
Good Luck

Hey Frank
I acknowledge you have excused the Polo choice and I have many Tigers members as mates, however if you want to succeed in FF then best to pick from the head not heart. Polo had a breakout last year with an 80 ave but remember this year he will be competing with the boundary umpires for rebounds out of defence back to the middle on most occasions. Can’t believe you have Jimmy in front of Martin and Farmer is still a work in progress (although good one) and is probably the most credible selection. In all seriousness, I’m considering Webberley/Mason – but have seen none of their PS other than DT scores – can you give me a heads up as to their progress/likelihood of making Rd1.

Rhys
Consider swapping Waite with Gram/MacDonald. The main upgrades you will make are in the midfield so they can be MPP and therefore swapped with Chappy. If you start him in the mids you will forego other high priced well performed premiums (MPPs) without the option of MPP to other forwards if (when) he gets injured. Clear as mud???
I agree Hayden is a watch however Hunt, Ladson and Brett Jones have all averaged higher in the past.
Good luck

Backs.
Goddard, Hodge, Gram, Kennelly, Malceski, Hunt, Waters (Sheppard, Maguire)

Mids.
Ablett, Dal Santo, Murphy, J.Selwood, J.Trengove, Martin (Barlow, Banner)

Rucks.
Hille, NicNat (Warnock, Lobbe)

Forwards.
Riewoldt, Harvey, Higgins, Tippett, Hall, Dangerfield, Ziebell (Rohan, Podsiadly)

I had Tippett in the ruck instead of Hille with Taylor Walker in the fwd line. Hopefully Hille goes up in price before he breaks himself, then I will swap Tippett into the ruck and buy another fwd.. lol

And suggestions?
Thanks guys

Dal is overpriced…there are better improving premium mid options, murphy is returning from interupted pre-season- will start slow.
Don’t get caught up in this MPP thing. You are better off picking the best possible team, at best you may save 1 trade for the year- hardly worth it and you may miss out on better players because you arer trying to gete mpp’s in each position.

Hey punters,

Appreciate all thoughts!

Enright, Heath Shaw, Hodge, Kennelly, Malceski, Hunt, Ladson (Maguire, Silvagni)

Swan, Gibbs, Cooney, Higgins, Carrazzo, Martin (Jetta, Barlow)

Hille, Naitanui (Warnock, Lobbe)

Riewoldt, Pavlich, Brown, Giansiracusa, Tippett, Hall, Walker (Hitchcock, Podsiadly)

What do you reckon 2010 avg. points per week would be?

I am a little concerned about Malceski, Ladson and Hunt all in the backs. Had the thought of switching Pav for Buddy and upgrade Malceski, but there aren’t many likley backs for <$335k. What is the current word on Malceski and Drum? I can't find much detail on Mal's hammy and I thought I read something about Drum last week but can't find it.

Thanks all!

Great team spooner, my advice is drop Cooney I’m not a big fan and is pre season and form from the last few games of 2009 was poor, i would bring in Sherman, or K.Cornes i’m a big fan he is very consistent and has been in the top 10 disposal getters for the past 5 years, also has averaged over 100 points since 2005, Keep your eye on the teams to make sure Malceski plays, and I’m thinking Hille may be a risk coming off a long term knee injury and might not be consistent, i suggest Naitanui as he will get ponits and will grow in value as the season wears on

Spooner March 21, 2010 at 5:22 pm

Cheers mate. I don’t know what to do about Hille – he’s a gamble alright. Chances are I’ll chicken out at the last minute and run Seaby, but with NicNat and Warnock there as backup (plus I’ve switched Sullivan for Lobbe so can also run Tippett in the ruck if my forward reserves are firing better than Warnock), I think Hille is worth the risk. Main reason is he’s a premium ruck if he’s fit and everything I’ve seen indicates his knee is ok. Touch wood.

PS, I reckon Cooney looks fitter than he has since he won his Brownlow, and the Dogs are bound to really fire this year. Often when the Dogs do well young Cooney does well…I dunno, I am no expert but he seems like a solid pick to me personally.

Some advice i would give is to start only one of Waters or Maguire on the field and to get rid of Trengrove, also i think Gumbleton is a bit of a risk although he did kick 2 goals in Essendons last NAB challenge match, i would replace him with Dennis Lane or Podsiadly, i would replace Trengrove with M.Davies or B.Nanson, if they are playing, i would also replace Chappie with Gray or Giansiracusa and with the extra money buy another defender for the field, like Dempster or T.Williams

People pay way too much attention to players NAB scores, not knowing how much game time they actually had. I mean a player can score 60 or so in the first half then gets subbed off and at the end you see 60 (must of had a s*it game). Look at a players overall career to determine whether or not to put him in your side.

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

Cameron March 21, 2010 at 5:03 pm

Also to add to your point Paul, NAB cup games are shorter in time than normal games, so the scores are lower than what they actually would be in a normal game. In my opinion, the only thing you should follow in regards to preseason scores are players who are coming back from injury, to see how they went….

Hey mate, I am no expert at Supercoach, but I’d think twice before placing Hille, Naitanui and Seaby all on your ruck lineup. All good choices but personally I’d drop one of them and run Warnock as your third ruck. 4th ruck for example could be Lobbe so you can take advantage of the MPP rule with Tippett if necessary later in the season. The spare change could help out in your forward line for example pick upgrade Ballantyne or Rockliff :)

Pods worries me. Rooke won’t make round 1 but you can take him to the bank for the rest of the year. Pods would probably be a stand up starter in most other teams for at least 5 or 6 games, but the reigning premiers don’t have much room for him when Rooke is fit. He’s probably a great second forward reserve for his price anyway, but I think Round 2-22 could be pretty quiet for him unless a Rooke or a Chappy takes a knock. If I could free up a little extra cash I’d be looking at a couple of other options. Of course, I could be wrong, maybe we’ll all get our value out of him we’re hoping for.

my starting 7 forwards will play week in week out unless there is injurie and if there is an injurie i probably will trade them out of my team so im not worried about about my forward line reserves

i dont like barry hall because if he doesnt kick over 7 goals he wont get over 100 points and it is nearly impossible to kick 7 goals every week

I don’t think it’s rooke that will keep Podsiadly from playing. If you didn’t already know he might not be eligible for rookie elevation due to the fact Mitch Brown is having a faster than anticipated recovery, meaning he most likely won’t be elevated until mid year. So just check round 1 teams to see if he gets a game, or else get rid of him.

What do people think of Jordan Russell? He averaged 89 in the NAB cup, and looks to be a bargain at 374k in the backline. Is anyone picking him up? Im thinking of getting him. Thoughts?

2.enright,hodge, gilbee, gram, waite, hayden, waters

3.h.shaw, maxwell, hodge, gram, waite, ladson, waters

haydens only been averaging 55… i dont have anything against him, but hes an injury worry. hes only played 16 games in 2006, 22 in 2007, 14 in 2008 and only 8 last year. Its not enough for a supercoach team. He is also 30 yrs old…

bring in Lobbe for Pyke
And either Wells, Pearce, Masten or C.Jones for A.Cooney
then upgrade Suckling for a higher priced Defender

i’d say trade r.shaw for h.shaw, trade carrazzo, he will be tagging this year. maybe get lindsay gilbee?

good midfield
great rucks
excellent forward line, although podsiadly might not get elevated yet, so maybe get rid of him, or at least wait until round 1 teams.

i hope that helps :D

I’m getting closer and closer to my final 30 and thought I’d run through my thinking where I haven’t already seen it written down in this post (could-a missed it of course).

Enright, Hodge, Shaw, Kennelly, Malceski, Hunt, Waters (Maguire, Silvagni)

First three – locks. Last four – unbelievable value in exchange for a health risk. With Maguire as backup I don’t think they’ll burn too many trades on me and they’ve freed up a lot of coin I could have spent back there. The value is too good to pass up I reckon.

Swan, Gibbs, Cooney, Higgins, Gilbee, Martin (Trengove, Barlow)

In my view a quality outfit BUT do I have too many dogs? We all know they’ll fire and these 3 will be scoring machines when the Dogs have their tails up. But my mum always told me something about eggs and baskets and I’m not sure I’ve got this one right. Any thoughts on a possible trade? I had Carrazzo for Gilbee (both MPPs with Hodge) till I heard he’s down as a tagger this year :( ANY comments on Carrazzo much appreciated!!!

Tippett, Natianui (Warnock, Sullivan)

They all speak for themselves, really. Sullivan will get a run when Cox needs a rest and I reckon is worth the extra coin above a cellar dweller bench warmer. (In my case if Nicnat hurts himself, Sullivan will get a run then too.)

Riewoldt, Pavlich, Brown, Giansiracusa, Hall, Zieball, Walker (Hitchcock, Stewart)

A few specific mentions here – as I said in another post Brown has been training with the mids this year and will venture further away from home with Fevolution up forward. Hall – well, I am wondering if Medhurst is a better option but I would have taken him any other year at his current price, so I am thinking why not now, with the Doggies’ midfield servicing him? Walker – get on him. He will be a sensation this year. The PTA duo on the bench makes sense to me – at least one will play every week.

Great backs and forwards in my opinion. Personally, I always think mids make your money though and your bottom three are real value gambles – you’ll look like an absolute genius if they all pay off though!!

Good move or bad?

Pav out for Schneider and Waters out for Hooker?

The plan was to cure my nightmares over having Malceski, Waters and Hunt all in the same back line.

Thoughts?

The “Waters out for Hooker” is a valid point and a real valuable suggestion
but i believe Pav is considerably better than have schneider in the line-up

Just out of curisity, would it be wise to change goddard for gram and save some money?

Wow, that is a nice lineup you got there mate. My only concerns are Rohan shouldn’t be a starter and Pods would be a better second forward bencher. Personally, I’d go Goddard out for Kennelly and get Medhurst for Rohan in your forward line. This would leave you with $163,000 to play with when you take your 10,500 into account and change Rockliff for Pods.

I don’t even know where you’d spend it.I mean if you wanted to you could go Dangerfield for Trengove?

Fantastic lineup mate, I can’t believe you fit those names in.

Thanks a lot mate. It’s been changing a lot over the last few weeks, but i’m fairly settled now. I won’t be getting rid of goddard, but i see ur point. im taking a different strategy to everyone else, by not getting the injury bargains. I might change rockliff for pods, but i will see if pods gets a game first.

One more thing, I missed Cloke in your forward line – if you mean Cameron, he is no certainty, use the 163k to upgrade him. Travis or Cameron, both could be upgraded with the 163k. Get Stevie J or something.

Hi,

Wondering if someone can value my feeble attempt.

Backs: Grimes, Hodge, Adcock, Bower Atkinson, Hunt, Waters, (Henderson, Silvani)

Mids: Goddard, J Selwood, Griffen, Ball, Connors, Jetta, (Banner, Moles)

Ruck: Tippett, Kruezer, (Warnock, Roughhead)

Forward: N Reiwoldt, Pavlich, Higgins, Kennedy, Hall, Dangerfield, Ziebell, (Rockliff, Hitchcock)

Salary Cap left: $265K

Strategy is to attain more than your average number of middle of the range players I feel may make a stronger fist of it this year, and also youngsters who are going to play early rounds with the aim of selling them off and building the salary cap to trade for Ablett (or other elite player) by the first third of the seasonirst few rounds.

He’s been tempting me all preseason. At the end of the day though, because he’s coming back from injury, I’m going to watch him for a bit and see how he goes before committing. Just noticed he had a 94 in their game against Adelaide. Now I want him again. Damn. Thought my team was settled.
