Rate My Team

by Motts on March 12, 2010

I’ve been struggling to keep up with all the requests to rate teams this week. If I haven’t gotten to yours yet please be patient. Have a look at some of the other ratings I’ve provided in the meantime to give you some ideas. Cheers, Motts.

Ben Harris March 20, 2010 at 11:54 am

Backs: Goddard, Enright, Thornton, Hodge, Hunt, Schoenmakers, Farmer/waters…
Bench: Maguire, Silvagni

Mids: Dal santo, Selwood, Gibbs, Davey, Ball, Martin…
Bench: Barlow, Bastinac

Ruck: Sandilands, Natinui
Bench: Warnock, Grimely

Forwards: Riewoldt, J. Brown, Franklin, Hall, Ziebell, Walker, Rockliff…
Bench: Gumbleton, Podsiadly

With 69 k left over in the bank… Any advice?

Personally, i think my forward line might be a bit weak? Also not sure on my last 2 backmen….

Thank you for your time :)

i would take out Gumbleton and Warnock and replace them with Podsiadly and Lobbe then use the extra money to upgrade Schoenmakers or Farmer

Disagree about Warnock – he’s cheap and he’ll get game time. Only problem is that he’ll be EVERYBODY’s 3rd ruck. Agree entirely about Gumby – too risky. Pods – keep an eye on R1 teams. Not a fan of Davey’s but he did well last year. i’d still downgrade him to a mid-priced midfielder so you can upgrade your last forward to a bloke you know is going to play every week.

Backs: Not a big fan of Lake (see previous team rates for comments) – think you can do better for what he’s worth (eg Grimes, Hurn, Kelly or Adcock). Rest of your backs are fine – you’ve got all the injury bargains in there.
Mids – good, some will knock you for the 2 onfield rooks – I’m not one of them.
Rucks – Twin premiums – good.
Forwards – All good. Buddy’s missing R1 so for me that was enough not to select him.

Its actually a hell of a team, PA. If you had Grimes in there instead of Lake I reckon that would have been a 10/10.

Pretty good Pymie. As long as you understand that Vince is light on for match practice so may take a week or 2 to hit his straps. Read the Comments from the Motts’ Dilemma post to get the general concensus on Hille before picking him. He is definitely a risk. As is Malceski after pulling out of Sydney’s last NAB Challenge match with hammy tightness. My advice is to dump Malceski, bring Waters on and grab a rookie for your second bench spot. Use the extra cash to upgrade J Riewoldt in your forward line. He has the name but not the talent.

The only thing about Jack Riewoldt is i thought he would be a good pickup now that richo is gone, because he will be the only one up in there forward line? any thoughts on that?

Motts March 20, 2010 at 5:10 pm

Mitch Morton, Brett Deledio, and Graham Polak have all kicked lots of goals for the Tiges as well. Riewoldt doesn’t have the body of a Fevola, Brown or Hall that would enable him to play the one-out power forward. I just think that he’ll be too easily shut down by defenders. Incidentally, keep an eye on Troy Taylor. If the kid manages to escape doing time he’ll be very good for them this year.

Hey mate what do you think of this team

Backs- Enright, Hodge, Lake, Hayden, Hansen, Kennelly, Waters, ( Maguire, P.Davis)

Midfield – Ablett, Selwood , Cooney , Burgoyne, Masten, Trengove, ( Martin, Barlow)

Rucks – Kruezer, Ottens, ( Warnock, Lobbe )

Forward – Pavlich, Brown, Harvey, Gray, Kennedy, Ziebell, Walker , (Hitchcock, Gumbleton)

You’ve got some issues, Alex. Not least of which is Burgoyne not playing due to injury and Cooney having had a pretty bad pre-season. Other than that Lake, Hayden and Hansen simply won’t score enough for you and you’re really loading up on injury prone players – risky strategy.

Hmmmm I see but I don;t want to copy everyone elses team everyone has Hunt, Ladson or Malceski, I want to be different and I guess it is risky, do you reckon Ryan Griffin can replace Cooney as you never know he could be one of the elite players in the comp this year.

Hey Motts what is your beef with Lake, this guy was 2nd in total marks scored 132 vs roos in r2, 134 vs hawks in r14, 130 vs pies r15 and 159 vs pies r22. He scored 100+ in eight games and his lowest score was 45 in r9 vs cats. He scored 50+ in all his other games. By the way he kicked 2 goals for the season.

Do you think he will take Fev’s spot up forward or will it be Henderson. I don’t really rate Hendo much having played 15 games for 3 goals which came in 2008 throwing him in the deep end could be very risky.

Setanta will get the job up front. He kicked 3 or 4 against the Crows last week. I can see Waite up forward though. It’s easier to regain fitness there than chasing another (fitter) bloke around all day in the backlines.

Pity you don’t have $200 more – I like Stanton.

Depends on your appetite for risk – they reckon Anthony is going to get tagged a lot harder this year so his number will drop. I’m not so sure. Other options I like in that price range are Boomer and Sherman. I think I’ve made it pretty clear what I think of the Coon.

Dom Cassisi is at $504,100 he could be your ticket. Avg 22.4 ppg along with 7.6 tackles per game and can score some big number, plus his the captain so he won’t get dropped.

Oh! Please leave aside the “hometown” love-in. This is a competition that requires intelligent assessment not club bias.
Waite will take time (maybe another 12 months) to regain his average so at best will be an upgrade target this year; and
unless Hargrave/Harbrow get injured and the Doggies find another FB then Lake is only going to be a KPP who averages 90 (great player I acknowledge but SC is not his game, particularly with the 2300 rule)
Remenber, I’m the WCE member arguing that Muddy Waters is highly over-rated due to a change in role and lack of leg speed/competition from more promising players.

What’s your solution to the backline injury risk Motts? For example, do you take Malceski, Hunt AND Waters on the basis that each one is ridiculous value and hope their price jumps to a viable trade value before their injuries knock them off?

Motts March 22, 2010 at 6:04 pm

My solution is to minimise injury risk and not grab all of them. At the moment (and my team is a moment-to-moment proposition right now) my backline reads: 2 x premiums, 3 x $400k – $500k players, Kennelly, and Waters. Yes, I may miss out on humungous value increases. But I also won’t burn trades if any of them go down early. And as we all know: trades are gold.

My backline is currently:
Gibbs, Deledio, Broughton, Duffield, Krakouer, Otten, Heppell with 3 rooks on the bench.
Goddard’s in the midfield to provide MASSIVE scores and DPP support.
