Rate My Team

by Motts on March 12, 2010

I’ve been struggling to keep up with all the requests to rate teams this week. If I haven’t gotten to yours yet please be patient. Have a look at some of the other ratings I’ve provided in the meantime to give you some ideas. Cheers, Motts.

I am surprised you have managed to rate as many as you have mate. I know its very time consuming and to manage it while juggling a family of 4, a full time job, your gardening course at TAFE, the gym, creating new ideas for cooking with chicken, watching all sport, drinking beer, playing darts, the mistress, the Duke, cleaning and kicking the football (appropriate and requested content added)…its a miracle you get anything done on here Mottsy. Love your SCT work pal and keep up the good work.

Hey Motts..Hope you can rate this team..I personally would give it around 6 going from what others have done…

Backs: Goddard, Enright, Hodge, Adcock, Gram, Kennelly, Hunt (Maguire+Trengrove)

Midfielders: Selwood, Cross, Higgins, Ball, Martin, Moribito (Trengrove+ L Jetta)

Ruck: Jolly, Nic Nat (Warnock+Lobbe)

Forwards: Riewoldt, Pavlich, S Jonhson, Dangerfield, Ziebell, Mayne, G Rohan (Rockliff+Podsiadly)

I have 112k Left…Any Suggestions will be taken on board :D

Geez mate your a tough critic of your team. I reckon thats a pretty good team. the only change i would make would be to swap morabito and trengove around. i’d give it an 8/10, but i’m no expert lol.

I agree with you, Cameron – that IS a pretty good team. I’d bring Dustin Martin in for one of your mid rookies but that’s purely personal preference.

Neither am I…thats why I have rated myself a 6 lol…I always go a little lower so there is room for improvement ;)

Yeah I was thinking of swapping them around…Also what do you think…Nic Nat or Tyrone Vickery?

This supercoach thing gives me a headache lol…

I’d definitely go Natanui, he will rise in price, and should make u some cash to upgrade to a premium later on. I also think Natanui because he scores around the ground, and West Coast should get more of the footy than Richmond.

Haha that’s the fun of SUpercoach! Although sometimes it does my head in lol

hope that helps

Barry Kraft March 16, 2010 at 2:00 pm

Just wondering if you can rate my team. Wondering any suggestions that could further improve it.

BACKS – Goddard, Enright, Mattner, Hunt, Ladson, Greenwood, Waters – EM: Maguire, Silvagni

MID – Ablett, Swan, Mitchell, Cooney, Redden, Martin EM: Banner, Moles

RUCK – Sandilands, Hille EM: Warnock, Skipper

FORWARDS – Chapman, Riewoldt, Higgins, Tippet, Hall, Mayne, Hitchcock EM: Rohan, Rockliff

Forward emergenices not finalised yet, any cheapies that would be better than the two already there?

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

Motts March 16, 2010 at 4:37 pm

I’d kick Cooney out of your midfield – he’s had a dog of a preseason. Podisadly at $83k is expected to get a run for the Cats this year so you may want to consider him. Otherwise its a pretty strong looking bunch of blokes.

Not a Cornes fan, have a think about Joel MacDonald from Melbourne. Lord knows he’s going to see a bit of it this year. You’re a bit light on in the engine room. Downgrade one of your forwards and use the extra cash to grab an extra premium midfielder for either Walker or McVeigh. Everything else looks good.

I like it MJ. Just see previous posts about Carrazzo playing a tagging role this year, Mitchell picking up the #1 tag now Sewelly’s gone down, and Buddy not playing R1. I give this an 8.5/10.

Hey Rockleigh, the make-up of it is fine. I’ve made points in previous posts about Cornes, Carrazzo, Cooney, Dalziell, Waite, Greenwood and Murphy so I won’t repeat myself. You have injury issues with Vince and Skipper. If I was going to give it a score I’d say 6.5/10.

Rockleigh March 17, 2010 at 10:09 pm

what players would you swap for those ones then?

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

Motts March 17, 2010 at 10:34 pm

Vince may play but having not played a pre-season game I’d pass on him. I’d take Liam Anthony for him. Its a bit of a risk because he’s only played half a season of AFL footy but you can’t argue with the way he went about it – a 95 average from 10 games is pretty bloody impressive.
There’s a bit of a Skipper debate going on in the League of Extraordinary Coaches post. Wait for the R1 teams to be announced but look for Roughead, Lobbe or Trengove I reckon. Good luck.

Strong everywhere but your backline. I’d downgrade a midfielder and a forward to upgrade a couple of your backmen. Your injury concern is Malceski (who pulled out of Sydney’s last NAB Challenge match with hammy tightness) and Bernie Vince is underdone – hasn’t played a pre-season game. Otherwise it looks good.

You’re dumping the blokes from your backline that I actually liked (Malceski aside). The ones I would’ve jettisoned were Frawley and Buckley. I like the midfield trade but Pav’s a premium – hold onto him. LeCras, Medhurst and Kennedy are all mid-priced blokes. I’d hold on to 2 of them at the most. Try to find some value further down the list. Suggestions: T Walker, Yarran, Ballantyne (make sure he’s right to go first tho), and Mayne.

Hey Lads,

So I’ve read through the comments and feedback and thought I should have the gonads to put my team up and face the jury. Thoughts on my side:

B: Goddard, Mattner, Enright, Kennelly, Ladson, Hodge, Hunt
E: Waters, Davis
M: Bartel, Thompson, Martin, Higgins, Gilbee, Masten
E: Morabito, Barlow
R: Sandilands, Naitanui
E: Warnock, Lobbe
F: Riewoldt, Pavlich, Murphy, Mayne, Buchanan, Dangerfield, Ziebell
E: Rohan, Podsiadly

Had a bloke in our comp last year that dominated for most of the season with a midfield comprised of GAJ, Jimmy and J Selwood. Its perfectly fine to have 2 of those 3 running around for you.

I like the Sherminator. I don’t like K Cornes.

Mate, I look through that team and the only bloke I would class as premium is Joel Selwood. You’ve basically built a team out of midpriced players which deprives you of captain options and means that you won’t pick up the huge value increases on offer for the blokes that are seriously undervalued (I do note that you’ve already got a few cash cows in your team). You need some names in there like St Nick, Pav, Goddard, Enright,
Ablett or if not GAJ then NDS, Mitchell, or Swan. There’s nothing wrong with playing one or two rooks in your midfield for the first few rounds to pick up the $$$. Other than that:
* I’m not a big a fan of Harry O,
* Bradd Dalziell has not done enough in the pre-season to justify a spot,
* Charman has already shown he’s still prone to injuries – makes him a risk not worth taking,
* I haven’t seen Lowden’s name mentioned anywhere as a legitimate 4th ruck option,
Good luck with the re-tooling buddy.

Take your pick out of Prismall, Priddis and Ball (being a Blues man I’m a little partial to Bryce).
Not a big fan of the Bogan (spelling mistake intended). If you can afford him, snaffle Krooz. If not, grab Nic Nat – you know you’re going to want to be on him when he starts going nuts this year.

dunx you need to upgrade that backline i reckon. Mackie is not a big scorer. And Hunt and Malceski could both go down Rd1! And Ladon could do anything.

Maybe down grade big Mc in the ruck and get in Krooz and then also trade Warnock for Lobbe. Use that extra cash with the 327k in kittie should get you enright maybe goddard.

the only one i can see is Mayne could go either way bad or good, i would put Westhoff in but only because of the way port are playing and the way his playing but Mayne is still a good pick, and i would probably put D.Martin on the field instead of Trengrove they will probably both perform as they are both in two of more under achieving clubs from last year and should both play in the opening round its down to who u think would have the bigger impact, i also heard that Martin was BOG in Richmond last pre season match with 34 disposals

Back – godd, gram, enrite, hodge, kelly, myers, waters (goose, webberly)
Mid – Nicky Dal, bartel, chappy, gilbee, martin, barlow, (banner, melksham)
Ruck – Ryder, hille (warnok, currie)
Fwd – Nik, harvey, Gia, hall, dangerf, Zebel, gumby (rockliff, still)

Not overly happy with backs depth, & not read much about chappy or kelly & no-one seems to have either, are they injured or just not popular this year (too spensive maybe)??

i’d go Hodge or Mattner, Hodge can play anywhere meaning he can also kick goals and pick up a lot of possessions but mattner can take a lot of marks and can get a lot of possessions

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

i would even consider Lake as he gets the job done on the best forward every week

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

Motts March 19, 2010 at 8:09 pm

Guys who “get the job done” though, don’t necessarily score well in SC. Lake has done well in the past coz he went forward. With BBB prowling the forward line now he’s not going to get the chance to kick goals. I’d pass on him.

if u want to upgrade gilbee u could go with Harbrow or Mattner i reckon both are cheaper but Harbrow had a breakout season in the dream team last year and if he plays like he did last year expect him to rise in price but Linsay Gilbee is a solid player who is like Hodge can play anywhere and can kick goals

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

I don’t think I’d go too much over 4 blokes from any one team. Just had a look at my team and I haven’t got any more than 3 on the field from any one team. Most are: Dogs, Saints, Freo (WTF?), and Carlton (but that’s personal, not business).

Disagree about Warnock – he’s cheap and he’ll get game time. Only problem is that he’ll be EVERYBODY’s 3rd ruck. Agree entirely about Gumby – too risky. Pods – keep an eye on R1 teams. Not a fan of Davey’s but he did well last year. i’d still downgrade him to a mid-priced midfielder so you can upgrade your last forward to a bloke you know is going to play every week.

Backs: Not a big fan of Lake (see previous team rates for comments) – think you can do better for what he’s worth (eg Grimes, Hurn, Kelly or Adcock). Rest of your backs are fine – you’ve got all the injury bargains in there.
Mids – good, some will knock you for the 2 onfield rooks – I’m not one of them.
Rucks – Twin premiums – good.
Forwards – All good. Buddy’s missing R1 so for me that was enough not to select him.

Its actually a hell of a team, PA. If you had Grimes in there instead of Lake I reckon that would have been a 10/10.

Pretty good Pymie. As long as you understand that Vince is light on for match practice so may take a week or 2 to hit his straps. Read the Comments from the Motts’ Dilemma post to get the general concensus on Hille before picking him. He is definitely a risk. As is Malceski after pulling out of Sydney’s last NAB Challenge match with hammy tightness. My advice is to dump Malceski, bring Waters on and grab a rookie for your second bench spot. Use the extra cash to upgrade J Riewoldt in your forward line. He has the name but not the talent.

Motts March 20, 2010 at 5:10 pm

Mitch Morton, Brett Deledio, and Graham Polak have all kicked lots of goals for the Tiges as well. Riewoldt doesn’t have the body of a Fevola, Brown or Hall that would enable him to play the one-out power forward. I just think that he’ll be too easily shut down by defenders. Incidentally, keep an eye on Troy Taylor. If the kid manages to escape doing time he’ll be very good for them this year.

You’ve got some issues, Alex. Not least of which is Burgoyne not playing due to injury and Cooney having had a pretty bad pre-season. Other than that Lake, Hayden and Hansen simply won’t score enough for you and you’re really loading up on injury prone players – risky strategy.

Hmmmm I see but I don;t want to copy everyone elses team everyone has Hunt, Ladson or Malceski, I want to be different and I guess it is risky, do you reckon Ryan Griffin can replace Cooney as you never know he could be one of the elite players in the comp this year.

Setanta will get the job up front. He kicked 3 or 4 against the Crows last week. I can see Waite up forward though. It’s easier to regain fitness there than chasing another (fitter) bloke around all day in the backlines.

Depends on your appetite for risk – they reckon Anthony is going to get tagged a lot harder this year so his number will drop. I’m not so sure. Other options I like in that price range are Boomer and Sherman. I think I’ve made it pretty clear what I think of the Coon.

Oh! Please leave aside the “hometown” love-in. This is a competition that requires intelligent assessment not club bias.
Waite will take time (maybe another 12 months) to regain his average so at best will be an upgrade target this year; and
unless Hargrave/Harbrow get injured and the Doggies find another FB then Lake is only going to be a KPP who averages 90 (great player I acknowledge but SC is not his game, particularly with the 2300 rule)
Remenber, I’m the WCE member arguing that Muddy Waters is highly over-rated due to a change in role and lack of leg speed/competition from more promising players.

I like it, Missy. $7k isn’t THAT bad. You can always trade down to generate more cash throughout the season.

You know how I feel about Gumby and you’re probably aware of your exposure to injury risk (Hunt, Waters, Prismall, Hille, and Gumby) but other than that it looks as good as anything else going around, dunx.

What’s your solution to the backline injury risk Motts? For example, do you take Malceski, Hunt AND Waters on the basis that each one is ridiculous value and hope their price jumps to a viable trade value before their injuries knock them off?

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

dunx March 22, 2010 at 5:50 pm

who would you trade them all for then ?? based on that

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

Motts March 22, 2010 at 6:04 pm

My solution is to minimise injury risk and not grab all of them. At the moment (and my team is a moment-to-moment proposition right now) my backline reads: 2 x premiums, 3 x $400k – $500k players, Kennelly, and Waters. Yes, I may miss out on humungous value increases. But I also won’t burn trades if any of them go down early. And as we all know: trades are gold.

Is Ladson worth a punt, either as a backmen or as a midfielder or neither. I know he is only $249k, everyone seems to have him in, but I’m not convinced he’ll score alot of points. What do you think Motts?

Motts February 10, 2011 at 9:30 pm

With you, BK. Gave him hard thought last year before avoiding him and not regretting the decision.

My backline is currently:
Gibbs, Deledio, Broughton, Duffield, Krakouer, Otten, Heppell with 3 rooks on the bench.
Goddard’s in the midfield to provide MASSIVE scores and DPP support.
