    $2.2k in the bank
    – Not so sure on Dusty was hoping to have 50k more funds for players like Neale or Yeo but don’t know if its worth downgrading somewhere else. Thoughts appreciated

My doubts would be about Roberton, and ( to lesser extent) Miles.

I would have a plan to either… Get an extra defensive Premo and another mid rookie, or the other way around. depending on where the rookie cards lie.

Leaving only $2.2k in the bank can also get you into trouble in the scramble for R1.

        On a side note.

Some people have doubts about R Grays ability to play ( groins) a full season in midfield. I think he could be a great POD Warning… he may cost you are trade if he is forced to push forward.

        Overall a pretty solid side.

  3. Currently trying to juggle bench positions with rookies even though they are along way off from being settled for rd 1.
How do you go about comparing the value of bringing in the dual position like Rozee ($189k)just for the benefit of being able to interchange him with Burgess. Compared with selecting Walsh ($207K) as pure mid.
Does the $20k saving + flexibility outweigh the probability that Walsh will outscore Rozee?

    1. My team currently
DEF: Lloyd, Laird, Whitfield, Witherden, Roberton, Collins (Rozee, Quaynor)
MID: Cripps, Fyfe, Yeo, Martin, Miles, Setterfield, Bewely, Constable (Hind, Ling, Hayes)
      RUCK: Grundy, Mumford (Fort)
FWD: Danger, Smith, Heeney, Burgess, Petruccelle, Cavarra (Corbett, Parker)

      1. Rozee at 189k and Quaynor at 153k are not rookies you want sitting on your bench (especially just for DPP reasons with Rozee.) When selecting rookies simply select the ones you think are going to make the most money along with scoring sufficient points. In previous years the early draft selections getting the premium rookie prices have not been worth the money with many cheaper mature aged rookies being much better. I believe this trend will continue (with Walsh highly likely to be an exception.)

It is also worth noting you can change the position of Burgess if you decide to trade a defender (therefor being able to place Burgess in def and trade in a forward) without also having Rozee in the backline.

For advice on your team you have gone too deep in defense. Downgrade one of Roberton or Witherden too another rookie too upgrade either the mid or Mumford. Other rookies down back to look out for in JLT are Duursma, McLennan, Wilkie, Hore and Wigg.
Mumford is not an ideal selection if playing for overall as he misses the first two weeks however if playing for leagues and Fort plays round 1 and 2 it could be a worthy punt.

    2. There hasn’t been any formal change% for options but if you are having Rozee in your team have him on field at that price. AFL staff writers has Rozee in Ports round 1 team.

I have Walsh and Rozee in team as i believe Rozee is worth the DPP but Burgess is the only good option that might play early.

  4. Still an early draftbut here goes;

DEF: Laird, Whitfield, Andrews, McGrath, Williamson, Quaynor (Burgess, Wigg)

MID: Danger, Cripps,Fyfe, Shiel, Miles, Libba, Walsh, Bennell (Stocker, Bewley, Hind)

    RUC: Gawn, Lobb (Fort)

FWD: Westhoff, Heeney,De Goey, Rankinr, Rozee, Setterfield (Corbett, Cavarra)

    95k remaining

Looking to push Danger up forward and get another premium mid somehow

    2

    10
    1. Too many risky players that won’t be quite good enough for top 6-8 in their position imo. These players include McGrath, Lobb, Westhoff, De Goey.

Heard Worsfold say that McGrath may play more on a wing but at his price id rather find the 20k to bring in Zac Williams and give McGrath another year to become a full time midfielder which i can’t see happening this year.

Lobb is not worth the selection as he will be playing as a key forward second to Hogan at Freo this year as Sandi and Darcy will be the first choice ruckman. As a KPP i only see Lobb averaging more than 75-80 max and at 411k its an awkward price and not worth the risk.

With Lycett coming to port Westhoff won’t play as much ruck. Trade him, swing Danger forward for another mid premo such as Dusty, Merret, Crouch or Neale if you can afford him.

      Hope some of this helps!

      8

      1
  5. DEF: LLoyd, Sicily, Whitfield, Collins, Wilkie, Hore (Burgess, Wigg)

MID: Cripps, Oliver, Fyfe, Neale, Zerrett, Stocker, Constable, Hind (Smith, Valente, Bewley)

    RUC: Grundy, Goldy (Fort)

FWD: Danger, Heeney, Wingard, Setterfield, McAdam, Corbett (Cavarra, Parker)

$190k remaining. Ideally, I’d like to fit Miles in. But there seems to be a lot of mid rookies this season, and he’d take one of their spots. I don’t want to go down to a 4-premo midfield, as it just looks too weak.
Other than that, I’m tossing up between Fyfe and Macrae. Fyfe is underpriced but injury prone. Macrae is likely to play 20+, but I don’t believe he’ll maintain the heights of 2018. Should still avg 115+ though.

    1. Good team with solid selections and if you want to fit Miles/Macrae in you could:
      A. Take Merrett out for A Brayshaw/R Sloane allowing Smith/Bewley to Miles.
      B. Out: C Wingard, Z Merrett, L Stocker, J Lloyd, P Cripps In: R Gray, J Macrae, A Miles, Z Williams, J Kelly.

      1

  6. Killing me at the moment

    TU – Gawn and B.Smith

    TD – Goldstein and Witherden

Biggest concern is that while Goldstein could be a smart buy, i just don’t feel he will be Top 2 rucks for the year which puts you behind

    8

    21
  7. What would you feel better running.

    Option 1.
MID. Macrae, cripps, Neale, dusty, Sloane, 3 x rookies. (heavy top end, and a 13 premium team).

    Option 2.
    MID. Martin, crouch, Merritt,
Sloane, zorko, steel, 2x rookies. (not sure if any will be top 10, but they each have the potential and gives 14 keeper team. Does the 6th mid help not running the big guys?)

Both teams have the same def, ruc and fwd, so all the money comes from the middle.

    Great looking side.

I would have a few doubts about Wingard being 100% round one.
He is still struggling with a calf problem and I would personally be choosing someone with a full preseason.

I feel the same about Oliver. He had both shoulders done in the off season and still hasn’t started any contact work. He is an absolute champ, I still doubt he will be at his best early days, and I will be looking at him as an upgrade target rather than a starter.

Both of these guys could get up and kill it from round 1 and prove me wrong. I just feel with starting Premo’s ,Its better to be safe than sorry.

The rest of your team looks very strong.

    Best of luck in 2019.

    6

    1. To be fair, the exact same situation happened with Oliver’s preseason last year. He did literally no contact work until round 1. He then scored 123 and 146 in the first two rounds.

      3

      1. I hear ha bAps.

Just on a side note. Last year there was no Viney for the first 8 weeks and no A. Brayshaw for the first 3.

With these guys both starting this year, Goodie will have the option to lighten Oliver’s load early. With Hogan gone to Freo, I have a feeling Oliver ( with his height) may spend a little more time forward ( at least early) this year.

Like I said he may just come out and kill it.
For me theres just a few too many doubts.
With so many other mids too choose from I will be passing for now.

        7

        1. Not sure he’ll be used as a marking target up forward if they’re trying to look after his shoulders.

Reckon it’s either “play him in the guts” or “hold him back til he’s 100%”.

          3

          1. Your probably right Blue balls.

I just read a comment on here from a guy who had the same shoulder ops. He said it took ages for him to recover. He was pretty strong on not starting Oliver.

Maybe I’m reading too much into it.

He will probably start on fire and make me regret not choosing him. As I said “the kids a gun”.

            4

            0
            1. I want to start him, but think I’m in the same boat. There’s just a few too many question marks, and a few low scores early will see his price plummet. Hard to see his price going up, so the percentage play is to wait and see.

              4

    2. With the way injuries are already this year i am looking at 14 keepers ulitizing my trades.its easy to pick 11 or 12 keepers its the other 3 mid price ones you need to be sure about.I think picking one in each line except for the ruck is the key element as the trend this year with injuries is following on from last year.

  9. Fairly settled on this line up until JLT. Gone deep in defence with potential boost in scoring due to kick in rules but this could change. Could easily downgrade one of my defenders to a rookie and bring Taranto in at M5 with Miles moving to M6, only if theres more reliable rookies in defence.
All rookies subject to change and reshuffling, will bring in gibbons if everything goes to plan.

All comments welcome and advice appreciated!

Def: Lloyd, Laird, Sicily, Witherden, Collins, Wilkie

Mid: Cripps, fyfe, kelly, neale, miles, Bewley, atley, hind (gibbons)

    Ruck: Grundy, Goldy

Fwd: Danger, Smith, Heeney, setterfield, McAdam, Cavarra

    2

    2
    1. I have a similar setup but I’ve gone one heavy in the forwards rather than defense. Early days for rookies but at this point the defense rookies look a bit stronger than the forward rookies.

      2

  10. Been converted to the Church of Lloyd….for now.

DEF: Lloyd, Whitfield, Williams, Collins, Quaynor, Burgess (Wilkie, Wigg)
MID: Macrae, Cripps, Neale, Merrett, Heeney, Miles, Setterfield, Bewley (Valente, Hind, Gibbons*)
    RUC: Grundy, Goldstein (Fort)
FWD: Danger, Dunkley, Fisher, Greene, Parker, Young (McAdam, Cavarra)

Again, structure feels pretty solid. Not 100% on Greene at this stage, but the only players I’d be inclined to bring in are north of $500k, so would need to do some major downgrading somewhere.

    I reckon the options are:

    A) Lloyd + Macrae + Greene
    B) Sicily + Bont + D. Smith

There might not be much in it. The second feels safer, while the first has much more upside at the risk of having to deal with some injury/suspension shenanigans with Greene. Not sure which way to lean.

    1. Hey Blue Balls.

Nice to see you back this year.

I really like your defence, rucks and midfield.
But,I don’t really know why you need both Heeney and Setterfield in there.

For me you have a super risky forward line.

I’m not sure Greene will even line up R1 at this stage, so that may make culling him easy.

Fisher and Dunkley could work out.I would only gamble on one ( probably Dunkley) We will all be a selecting quite a few Carlton rookies, how many is too many Carlton players? I would just feel safer with Henney forward and with the money from Fisher and Greene get in a forward rookie and another solid midfielder.

      Food for thought anyway.

      1. Cheers for the feedback.

Had Crouch in that midfield spot for a while, but there aren’t many mids around that price point I feel super confident about. Heeney won’t be in the middle for long, just until the first round of upgrades takes place and I can swing him forward. Feel better about him in the side than Crouch, Hunter, Beams, Sidey etc.

The forward line is a real headscratcher. Finding it hard to identify anyone under $500k that looks worth taking a punt on. Dev Smith is the closest I can find to a “cheap, safe bet”.

Of the budget/breakout options, Fisher is the standout for me. Coming into his third season, increasing his midfield minutes, and providing a link between a dominant Cripps and a tall forward line of Curnow, McKay and McGovern. He’s a slippery midfielder who likes to carry the ball out of traffic and kick left-foot bullets into the forward line. Also enjoys a good tackle. Been along to a few open training sessions and he’s looking sharp. 90+ average on the cards. Maybe some emotion in this pick – but you’ve gotta have one of those 😉

Don’t think 4 Blues is too many, either. Cripps is going to be in every side for good reason, and Setters/Gibbons likely will too as mature age rookies. So three common picks plus one breakout.

Looking over my team again, I’m now wondering if Miles -> Walsh and Greene -> Tim Kelly might be worth entertaining…

        4

        0
        1. That could work.
          I did have another idea.
I’m not sure how bullish you are about starting Macrea?
With libba back, Dunkley Hunter and the Bont all looking at midfield time. I just don’t trust “Mr Magnets” ( Bevo)
If you could bring youself to downgrade him to J Kelly / Fyfe / Cogs / Yeo. You would have the cash to get a much better M5. Or afford Smith at F2/3

Best of luck whatever you do.

          3

          0
          1. Macrae’s not at all locked in, so it’s an option.

Doesn’t really fix the Greene issue though – Macrae to Kelly is an extra $70k, which upgraded Dunkley to Bont, and leaves not much left to do anything with Greene. He may just end up being a downgrade, pending rookie selection. Actually…that looks OK…

DEF: Lloyd, Whitfield, Williams, Collins, Quaynor, Wilkie (McLennan, Wigg)
MID: Cripps, Kelly, Neale, Bont, Crouch, Merrett, Setterfield, Bewley (Valente, Hind, Gibbons*)
            RUC: Grundy, Goldstein (Fort)
FWD: Dangerfield, Heeney, Fisher, Rozee, Burgess, Parker (Young, Cavarra)

            1. Solid.

I’m holding back a bit of cash myself at this stage.

Just in case someone like Walsh looks like he could be worth the extra coin.

I would also really like the option to turn Goldie into Gawn. I just can’t stop thinking he will kill it again this season. Pruess or not.

It does play havoc with my Bye structure though. 🙂

              Best of luck in 2019.

              1. Have actually gone back to Gawn for the same reason FT. Just feel I HAVE to have them both (G&G). I’ve done it by going Sicily down to Williams. This leaves me with enough $$s to still turn a Stocker-type into Walsh if needs be after the JLT.
While I feel Sicily will be top6 and Williams may not, I’m thinking Williams will make cash while Sicily should become more affordable at some point.
I only have one Rd 13 premo player in both DEF (Lloyd) and MID (Yeo) lines to start so affords me some margin for upgrades.
I may return to Goldie & Sicily, but I currently feel more comfortable with this set-up.

                1. Sounds like a plan allsaints.

I have posted my latest team further in the thread.

Looks like I joined the Steele express.

I had JOM for a while.
Steele’s durability and potential to “truly” breakout won me over.

I’m sticking with Goldie for now as it potentially lets me start with another keeper.

Scroll down ….. you will see what I mean. 🙂

  11. Hello everyone,
I’d just like to start by saying how much I enjoy this forum, I am very new to AFL and this will be my first super coach, it’s really entertaining and helpful. I’ve been following the game and the forum last year so this time I’m gonna give it a go.
That’s my team, kill it softly 😀

DEF- Sicily, Simpson, Doedee, Smith, Williamson, Rozee (Burgess, Wigg)

MID- Macrae, Oliver, Fyfe, Coniglio, Petracca, Miles, Stocker, Atley (Bewley, Valente, Hind)

    RUC- Grundy, Naismith (Fort)

FOR- Dangerfield, Heeney, Worpel, Higgins, Setterfield, Corbett (Parker, Cavarra)

    Rookies to review after JLT.
My biggest concerns are about the mid$, I’d like the idea of having a couple of players like Worpel /Higgins / Miles, I think they all have the numbers either to step up as keepers or to make some money, but do I have too many?
I also like the idea of having Doedee/Smith, I reckon they’ll do good and bring home few points at a reasonable price, specially Smith. I’m not too keen of having them both, specially being from the same team. I’m thinking downgrade Doedee to get some extra cash to invest in a ruck upgrade.
Thanks for reading this and sharing your thoughts in advance.

    1

    2
    1. Too much risk in that side, for my personal taste.

Midpricers: Doedee, Smith, Petracca, Miles, Naismith, Worpel, Higgins

Gut feel tells me you might get 2/7 that go on to “keeper” status (Smith, Miles), 4/7 that flirt with you with some occasional good scores but ultimately need to be upgraded (Doedee, Petracca, Worpel, Higgins), and another 1/7 who fail so dismally you’ll be left wondering why you even bothered (Naismith).

2 players who save you ~$250k over a guaranteed keeper. Up $500k.
4 players who hold value, and can be double-traded for two premos.
1 player who loses you $100k and requires 2 downgrades and $400k to upgrade. Down $400k.

      Vs.
3 uber-premos who you don’t need to touch.
4 rookies who make money, and can be double traded to get 2 fallen premos.

Both scenarios get you 5 premos at the end of the day. But the first uses 7 trades while the second only 4.

Or split the middle – keep some of the midpricers, but hedge your bets a little bit. Doedee and Higgins to rookies, Petracca and Naismith to more reliable scorers.

      4

      0
  12. Ok, last one for a while, I promise!

    DEF: J. Lloyd, J. Sicily, L. Whitfield, S. Collins, G. Louge, X. Duursma (M. Hore, H. Wigg)

    MID: P. Cripps, C. Oliver, N. Fyfe, J. Kelly, J. Steele, C. Constable, E. Smith, B. Bewley (N. Hind, W. Hayes, M. Gibbons*)

    RUCK: B. Grundy, M. Gawn (J. Sweet)

    FWD: P. Dangerfield, I. Heeney, D. Mundy, W. Setterfield, J. Pectruccelle, B. Cavarra (J. Corbett, M. Parker)

All Saints you’ve finally convinced me, I’m all in on Steele. Was always considering him but was concerned about his role affecting his scoring, but since Richo has come out and said he’s training to play purely mid, I’m sold. I was actually comparing Steele’s season last year compared to Cripps’ 2015 season (the season before he broke out and averaged 107) and they’re eerily similar. Both averaged around 95-96ppg, they both only scored 3-4 tons for most of the season, and then in the last 5 rounds they both exploded, scoring tons in 4 of their last 5 games (and Steele averaged more in those last 5 rounds!) Obviously they’re not in identical situations to one another, but it’s clear the breakout potential is there.

With the savings I’ve gone Merrett up to Kelly, and then I’ve gone Roberton down to a rookie, and Ryan up to Sicily. I decided to do this since adding Steele created more risk for my team, so I needed to remove some risk by going from Ryan to a more proven premium in Sic.

Anyway, that’s it, let me know what you think!

    7

    2
    1. Word of caution with Steele. Whist he averaged 111.8 after the bye he scored 144, 128, 121 and 140 with either Dunstan or Ross out of the team. His average in this period with both of them playing is only 94.7. For me the Saints have four decent midfielders in Steele, Dustan, Ross & Steven and unless one of them goes down they have to share 3 on ball spots between them (not to mention if Billings & Gresham get more mid time).

I’m starting to find a big correlation between key midfielders missing games and those around them increasing their scoring output. Making the likes of Mundy, Wingard and dare I say it Worpel look very tasty.

      2

      0
      1. Definitely a valid concern although given the terrible year we had last year everything at the club is getting a big shake up including the midfield structure so I’m sceptical about past trends having any indication on this coming season. But as you say that means Billings & Gresham (also Clark) are gonna see more midfield time so potentially less for Steele. That said I’m still very much considering him

  13. I honestly reckon it’s still to early and we will have to wait for JLT before getting serious about our teams
But I can’t wait for the footy and I built a draft for fun
This is my second draft as the first team relied on Darcy Fort becoming a legend and being R2 this team is more sensible

    1. Risky with both Miles & Libba in the midfield as if one gets injured early or is a bust downgrading is the only way to go. That being said if they both come out and average 90+ you’ll have a great head start! Finding it hard to split both of them though. Libba has greater scoring potential when played in position but has injury risk. Miles looks safer but might struggle to match his scoring of old in a side that’s going to be pumped by 60 points each week.

Rest of the team looks good.

  17. A few changes might be made here and there, rooks obviously, but here’s the bones of what I’ve got. Missing some premium backs and fwds – pretty stacked at mids, might clear one out for a rook if JLT form looks good for $$$ generation and put in another premo fwd, but here it is (so far) …

Def: Laird, Witherden, Williams, Ellis, Williamson, Hore (Wilkie, Wigg)

Mid: Cripps, Kelly, Neale, Bont, Martin, Merrett, Walsh, Atley (Bewley, Valente, Hind)

    Ruck: Grundy, Goldy (Fort)

Fwd: Danger, Heeney, Greene, Setterfield, McAdam, Cavarra (Burgess, Corbett)

A few likely changes might be Walsh to Bennell if selected / sober / not in gaol, and maybe Bont to M.Crouch or (more likely) to R.Gray as fwd (might get some nice numbers to start the season with Wines out).

    Thoughts welcome.

    1. Starting with 6 premos in the midfield only gives you the option to get two of Macrae, Oliver, Fyfe, Treloar, Coniglio, Crouch or any others that pop up as a genuine top 10 candidate.
From what I’ve heard Greene still looks touch and go for round 1. I’d look at downgrading one of your mids to a Miles type and upgrading Greene to a Dunkly/Smith/Mundy type.

30k left in the bank so not a great deal to play with. Moore in, as supposedly he went close to best on at the intra-club yesterday gaining a lot of intercept possessions down back. I like the Steele pick as he’s looking good for a breakout although if need be I can upgrade him via Gawn > Goldy or just straight trade to Zorko. Any thoughts/constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated 🙂

  22. Below is my team currently, rookies all will get traded as need be for round 1 squads and form in JLT, so haven’t put a huge amount of time into the rookies yet, just made sure I had premo rookies in there so I can afford them if necessary.

Would love your thoughts on the below picks too.

Mills – Everything we hear is that he Is moving to the midfield this year, and as a $428k def this is almost too good to pass up. When Mills finally does get his shot he will be an absolute weapon. Will be watching his pre season closely and down grade to Williams at $407k if I think Mills won’t move to Midfield before round 1.

Taranto – With shield and skully gone someone has to take a midfield spot, again all that we read is that he is training as a permanent mid and absolutely lighting up the track. Awkwardly priced at $481k and again will be watching his preseason closely. Will upgrade to Merret if the midfield role doesn’t seem to play out before round 1.

Libba – At 300k and training with the midfield group, he will hit his break even just from getting tackles. Has a much higher ceiling than miles and has showed in the past he can average over 110. He has been my preference over Miles since SC opened and nothing I’ve read has changed my mind in that regards… Concern is his durability, but if he is over his injuries then he could be one of the picks of the year. Will move to Miles if anything changes.

Wingard – I’m not sold on Wingard but he is in my team for now, recent calf setback which was a common issue with him before and the uncertainty about the midfield move has me worried here, might try and find the cash to upgrade him to Mundy or Smith, or maybe a downgrade to Greene if he is playing round 1.

Only other thought is Heeney, he will probably still be a top forward for the year so won’t need to waste a trade on him, but feel like maybe Smith, or Mundy might be a better pick for F2. Nothing to suggest Heeney will play more midfield minutes as he is still training full time with the forwards. Will watch him closely through pre season and JLT too.

Thanks for reading guys, would love some feedback good or bad.

    1. Not convinced Quaynor will break into pies team by rd 1, even if he does will he score more than another $123k or $117k rookie?
Just wondering if you can save some coin somewhere to upgrade Wingard to Smith – $30k on Quaynor would help. Maybe save a little on a Walsh or a Rozee as well (although as soon as you do, they’ll come out and average 100!?)
I’m going miles over libba, but it’s line ball – just reckon you can bank on 85-90 every week with miles, libba played very little in last 2yrs…you’re right though, does have higher ceiling (probably showing my conservative side).
      Pretty solid team. Good luck!

Yeah rookies i havent put much time into yet until JLT.

    2. A few too many risky picks for mine, particularly in the midfield. Not sold on dusty as richmond don’t play an sc friendly style (see cotchin’s average) and they love chucking him FWD. That with Oliver’s shoulders and minor gambles on Libba and Taranto is a bit risky as I like a very solid midfield. You’ve also got a number of high priced rookies and given it’s very rare for them to really give you good value vs a cheap rookie I’d consider making some extra cash from Rozee/Walsh/Quaynor and trade Dusty/Taranto to someone more solid (like your mention of Zerrett). Mostly am a fan of your FWD line (I’m also riding with Wingard for now) and lastly would advocate moving from Mills to Williams just cause the Swans have so many players moving through their midfield that even if Mills does get a boost in midfield mins it won’t likely be a huge one so I don’t like the odds of that translating to a safe 90+ avg. Plus Williams at the same price seems a surefire 90+ man himself. Just my 2c 🙂

    1. Scott.

I think you need to re think your structure.

Miles at M4 is crazy. Like bat sh#t crazy. The midfielders score most of the points. You need a few more.

      You could…….

Drop B.Smith down to Collins back. Trust me .

Next you need to downgrade a couple of your Forwards. There seems to be a enough good forward rookies this year.

Danger and Heeney are must haves. And should definitely stay.
      D. Smith is a bit safer than Dunkley but its up to you.
Trade the other to a rookie. Parker / Petruccelle.

This should leave enough to get a least another top midfielder.

I would also look at Daniher down to another rookie and using the cash in the midfield too. He has just missed so much footy and may take a while to find his feet again.

      Best of luck this year.

      1. Ha…thanks for the critique!
My logic: I’m hoping Brodie Smith can be a keeper – if he can avg 95, I’m happy for him to be a D6 at years end.
If Miles can avg 85-90, keep him til bye rds.
Bennel & Daniher are speculative at the moment – wait n see their fitness/criminal record.
If I can possibly get away with only having to upgrade 2 fwds and 2 defs then I can wait n see which miss stand out from the pack – I.e tough to choose b/w Kelly, cripps, coniglio, treloar, macrae etc.
6 weeks to make 150 variations!

    1. Nice team M

I’m thinking of structuring up just like this.

I have a different Premos but they are very similar sides.

Lloyd, Whitfield, Williams, Collins, Duursma, Wilkie,

Danger, Cripps, J Kelly, Neale, Sloane, Steele, Stocker, Hind.

      Grunstein.

Smith, Heeney, Mundy, Corbett, Petrucelle, Parker.

This has 14 premos 10 of them should finish top 6/ 8/ 2 / 6 in their position.

Sloane and Steele are calculated risks that I’m willing to take.
At worst they will be M7/M8 at seasons end.

When I move Danger forward ,I will have only 2 forward upgrades to make. This also leaves 3 upgrades back and 3 upgrades in the mids, so I can target the best “Fallen Premos”

The plan is to use the trades I save on starting 14 keepers to sideways trade Goldie to Gawn or ,Williams to Simo. If I feel the time is right.

      Best laid plans eh!

    1. I think Williams +90k is a better deal than Hurley. Not sold on Newman vs the cash generation of a rookie but it may work. Shiel I am not convinced that he is a top 15 mid so not a keeper vs Sloane or Zorko. Clarke will not play enough games to warrant having when Fort fills that role cheaper. If you want a cheap ruck then Mummy might be better if Fort is named for Rd1 &2. Just my 2cents worth. Good luck for 2019…..M.

  29. I’m surprised with how many people are going with Fyfe. I understand and agree he is top 3 players in the game and is capable of averaging upwards of 120 for stretches. But you’re almost 100% likely to miss games and a large chunk and burn you a trade. Averaged 113 last year with a total of 1708 total points. While most would argue that few players in the competition can average 120 I’d argue that I’d much rather 22 games at 105-115 average (which there are many midfield options) than a bloke who MIGHT average 120 at very best but on average misses 5 -6 games a year that’s a lot of points your going without. Already had the elbow injury in the pre season I just think it’s a big risk which some might like I guess. Interested to hear other thoughts. I’m going Neale instead and have for last few years.

    5

    1. Fear of missing out

Watching him go large against North, Suns and Saints (with 2 being at home) is going to hurt not having him.

But yes i completely agree with you and ive taken Fyfe in and out for Neale too many times

      2

      0
      1. But if you have Neale instead your not missing on many points and you’re not burning a trade. But I agree fear of missing out is probably the major reason. But for me trades are gold and any points you mah miss on not having Fyfe can easily be made up elsewhere. When he ultimately gets injured your ahead of the pack again.

  30. DEF:
    Lloyd, Whitfield, Willams,
    Roberton, Wilkins, McLennan

    Miles, Stocker, Hind

    (Fort)
    FWD:
    Danger, Heeney, Mundy
    Settlefield, Burgess, Parker
    (Petruccelle, Cavarra)

    Reasoning:
Expect Treloar to be play inside and outside and could be more damaging with Beams joining the Pies. The Sloane Ranger is underpriced and is a class player. Yes he can be tagged but so can they all. Deciding between Steele, Zorko and Shuey who could be a great POD averaging 110 in the second half of the season. His 168 in the GF could give him the confidence to slingshot into this year. I think many people have ignored him but is well priced at $492k. Slight leaning to Steele but easily swayed at this stage. Zorko is reported to be the fittest he has been over pre-season and without Beams (but with Neale) I expect more consistency than last year. We all know his ability to go big. I think Mundy is a must have given that there is no Neale and Blakely out with injury. If Walsh looks to be as good as Miles then Miles will be downgraded allowing Goldy to upgrade to Gawn. There seems to be so cookie cutter teams around so Sloane, Treloar, Steele hopefully will perform well as POD’s.

Appreciate the thoughts of the community. Looking forward to the JLT series to see the rookies.

    1. Forgot to add that Walker is only on the bench so that it allows Burgess to be a swing between fwds and backs. Also gives me a non-player for captain loopholes. 64k left in the bank to see whether Collins will be worth bringing in to defence.

      1. Agree with you Mick although I went for Zorko and Sloane. My only concern is Treloar. With Beams, Adams, Pendles, Sidney, Sier and Philips all running through the midfield I am not sure how they will share points around. I have steered clear of them all for that reason and I’m a Pies supporter. Good luck this year…M.

    1. Very solid side Jakey

Minimal risk and 14 pretty solid premo’s

The extra defender maybe the way to go.

Totally agree with the freeing up cash as I would ideally like a bit more flexibility.
Bennel to Walsh is something I’ve had in mind and will look to do as a healthy return from Walsh seems more likely than from Bennel I would’ve thought.

        1. Cheers Jakey.

Its always good to have options.

          My take on Harley is…..

Knowing Ross ( FURL) you don’t just walk into the team and start playing midfield. Not after such a long layoff and all the off field stuff.

When Bennell finally plays, I see him either playing back pocket on one of the Opo’s most dangerous small forwards.

Or a Defensive forward “role” trying to lock down the Opo’s best half back.

Either way there won’t be any easy touches for Harley.

” Role ” players rarely score over 65ppg.

Is that enough to justify his higher starting price ?

Just my take on it anyway.

I’ve obviously had to go with some cheaper/value selections in Crouch, Mundy, Wingard and Dusty to accomodate the big ruck spend but I like all these guys. I believe the best structure this year is either 3 defence keepers and 4 forward keepers or vice versa pending rookie selections. Any feedback is welcome, thanks in advance 🙂

I would still like to see lloyd or Whitfield in your backline.
I think they will end up 1 and 2 overall defender this year.
It just maybe hard to try to get them both in later on.

I do like the 14 “Premo” structure. Its the first time I’ve seen it done with Grundy and Gawn.

I can afford the straight swap of Simmo to Lloyd but it only leaves around $13k in the bank. Due to Wingard’s interrupted preseason I’m thinking of slotting another forward line POD in J.Billings which would take me up to around the $50k mark again but I’m still scarred over his performances last season. 35. Hi all,

Not sure if I’ve gone to many fallen premos in the guts but hoping Dusty, Crouch and Merret will in the top 10 mids by years end, hoping

    1. Get another non-rookie in forward line, forwardline players are the hardest to find reliable scorers, having an additional rookie in backline would be more beneficial

      1. Thanks Scotty
        Yeah spot on
I’ve never had 3 great scoring rookies on the field in the forward line and the mid rookies are plentiful
I’ll keep an eye on the Wingards/Greene’s/Fishers etc
        Good luck mate

        1. Mundy will get a lot of midfield time without Neale in the side. I don’t see Taranto as a keeper and his price is too high not be a keeper. I would downgrade him to a rookie and put Mundy or Wingard into the forward line…..good luck…M

  36. This may not be in the right section but… any comments about Nathan Vardy chances are pumping out reasonable scores this season. He is not competing with Lycett who had more ruck work than him but I expect him to beat Hickey for the main job which might see his scores go north. Is he value at $306k or too risky? Be interesting to see how Simpson chooses to play two ruckman and how he uses them both.

    What do we all think?

I could potentially go Simpson down to a rookie and one of the fwd rooks up to someone like Dunkley but I have more faith in the defensive premos atm
This is like my 100th revision so its bound to change haha

  41. First Time SC player.

Thinking of playing Danger in the Middle as I cannot find suitable MID combo that I’m comfortable with.

Have a couple of FWD line structures.

1 Mundy Heeny Wingard (Zac Fisher) Setterfeild Cavara 2rooks

2.Dunkley Heeny Smith Setterfeild Blakley Cavara 2rooks

    Option 1 (4 ) premiums in Midfield (6 ) rooks
    Option 2 (5) premiums in Midfeild M5 Sloane M6 Miles (4) rooks

Also been looking Over the teams listed on this site….their are 2 names I seldom see. One is a Bulldog player called Weller avg 110+ second half of 2018 season and the other is a FREO player called Ryan could push 95+ with the new kick in rules. Should these players be considered or avoided.

    All advice welcome Good Luck.

    1. Been a bit of chat about Ryan and he should definitely be considered. Keep an eye on JLT form and whether he gets the kick in duties. Got no idea on Weller for the Bulldogs, I cant find him.

  43. A little different from what I had last month

    DEF – R. Laird, J. Sicily, J. Short, D. Roberton, T. Williamson, I. Quaynor (M. Hore, H. Wigg)
    MID – J. Macrae, C. Oliver, N. Fyfe, D. Martin, J. Dunkley, A. Miles, L. Stocker, M. Gibbons (B. Bewley, N. Hind, C. Constable)
    RUC – M. Gawn, B. Longer (D. Fort)
    FWD – P. Dangerfield, I. Heeney, D. Smith, I. Rankine, W. Setterfield, M. Parker (B. Cavarra, S. McAdam)

I did have Williams as my D3, but seeing the Richmond preview posted recently, I’m very interested in Jayden Short. I’ll see how he and Williams go in the JLT, I’ll have a much better idea of who to go for. D5 will be out of Williamson and Collins, again I’ll wait until the JLT to get a better opinion. Quaynor is apparently getting some good feedback from the coaching staff, and could be looking at a Rd. 1 start.

Only change in my MIDs is Oliver in for Merrett, and Gibbons in for Sparrow.

If Melbourne try out the Gawn/Preuss combo and stick with it in the main season (and if it takes points away from Gawn), then I’ll be bringing Grundy in. I did have Kreuzer as my R2, but I’ve always played with a few methods. One of them being if the two rucks score 200+ as a combined score for the round, then I’m happy. With Longer being the sole ruck for St Kilda, I think that he’ll make more money for me than Kreuzer will (and hopefully he’ll score well too).

No changes to my forward line at this point.

    1. Thoughts on midfield? Should have at very leased 4 unless you have a good reason running 3.
Williams won’t ave 100more than likely. And your giving up a mid slot to someone who at m4 should at leased ave 110. Same principle for most defenders and fwds.

  46. First time on SuperCoach so any advice is great.

DEF: Lloyd, Laird, ZWilliams, BSmith, Rozee, Collins(Wigg, Quaynor)

MID: Macrae, Cripps, Oliver, Neale, Miles, Walsh, Constable, Gibbons (Bewley, Valente, Hind)

    RUC: Grundy, Naismith (Fort)

FWD: Danger, Smith, Heeney, Daniher (??) , Setterfield, Cavarra (Mosquito, Woodcock)

Not sure where to spend the remaining $162,000 – no real options for upgrading Daniher but feel like he could make me a lot of cash early. Maybe feel like I am missing a Prem DEF or MID?

    1

    0
    1. Not a bad side. For me, I would swap Smith for a rookie, Daniher for a rookie and bring in Fyfe, or Martin or Sloane or Zorko. In the end go with you gut….good luck..M.

          1. Looks great. Don’t think you’ll need/want to drop Sloane back. You should be able to have a bit more in the bank when the cheaper mature-aged guns put their hand up for selection come Rd1.
            Good luck!

              1. Think Fyfe will likely average more but I’m after 22 gamers, so given the straight choice and not concerning byes, yes. Oliver every day of the week.

                0
                1. I’m sold on Oliver now aswell. Can drop him to almost anyone if he’s struggling for round 1. It’s either him or fyfe. But I want total points not average for the uber mids.
Lol he’s at that age where he might break out as well.

  47. Hey everyone, first time doing Supercoach, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Defence – Sicily, Whitfield, Williams, Collins, Logue, Wilkie (Scrimshaw, Burgess)

Midfield – Fyfe, Kelly, Neale, Beams, Merrett, Miles, Walsh, Bewley (Mosquito, Jok, Hind.. waiting for Gibbons*)

    Ruck – Grundy, Martin (Fort)

Forward – Smith, Heeney, Mundy, Bruce, Setterfield, Corbett (McAdam, Cavarra)

Looking at maybe trading Fyfe or Kelly out, and bringing in either Crouch, Lyons or Zorko.. then if there’s enough money, Smith out for Dangerfield.

    0

    1
    1. I think you should downgrade Bruce to a rookie and upgrade Smith to Danger. Keep Fyfe and Kelly. If you had the spare cash to upgrade Beams to Cripps I would do that too. Good luck….M

      2

      0
    2. Think you need Danger. I get the Bruce thing. Flying and Suns first up but he’ll likely leave you high and dry.
Not sure I like two Rd13s on your RUC line either, unless you’re going Grawndy.
Gibbons is now available to pick.
I think you can afford to lose Bruce and Logue for decent rookies (there should be enough come Rd1). One of Smith or Mundy for Danger and you may still have enough for Beams to Cripps, Oliver or Martin. But, if you’re set on him as a POD that’s fair enough.
      Structure good. Best of luck

  48. Please give feedback…

Laird, Sicily, Whitfield, Rozee, Collins, Wigg

Danger, Fyfe, Kelly, Neale, Sloane, Bennell, Setterfield, Stocker

    Grundy, Gawn

Heeney, Smith, Gray, McAdams, Burgess, Parker

Second variation I was thinking was downgrade Danger to Martin, Grundy to Martin, Gawn to Goldy and upgrade McAdams to Wingard. 13 premiums vs 14 premiums.

    Thought???

    1. I’d leave your structure how it is. Looks strong but,

I understand Danger in the MIDs but I would move him FWD for either Smith or Gray. A Cripps, Oliver or Martin will likely score significantly more than either of those two and without costing a trade.
If you don’t have enough to do it, then can I suggest you downgrade premo rookies to mature-aged base-pricers to gain necessary cash.
Not sure about Bennell either. Will likely get FURL’ed on role (thanks FT) and/or go down with a calf issue before he’s made enough (any) cash.
Good luck. Actually looks strong. Just a couple of tweaks for mine.

      2

      1. Thanks for the suggestions

I liked the idea of Rozee and Burgess at either end to swing if needed, but may be worth downgrading Rozee. Can then bring in Oliver and move Danger for Smith and change Bennell for cheaper rookie. Was never sold on Bennell. He was sitting in a spot while I waited for Gibbons to be added.

  49. Been swapping a few player around and I think I have come up with something a bit better
    DEFENCE
    Lloyd, Whitfield, Witherden
    Brodie Smith, Collins, Wilkie
    Bench – Hore, Wigg

    MIDFIELD
    Cripps, Fyfe, Kelly, Dusty

Bench – Ely Smith, Gibbons, Hayes

    RUCKS
    Grundy, Goldy

    Rankine, Setterfield, Parker
    Bench – Corbett, Cottrell

  50. Which 4?

(TU) – Ruck – Grundy, Gawn, Fwd – Danger, Back – Rozee
Seems hard to go past with those 3 big names

(TD) – Ruck – Martin, Goldstein, Fwd – Smith, Back – Laird
Adds an extra premium, but may miss some big scores

  51. I love reading through these types of threads. Its interesting to see all the combos people come up with.

I’m mostly trying to pick players who are fit and done most of the preseason for starters, only one besides rookies is Zerrett who i think is just too good value to ignore and his ownership as dropped since he sprained the ankle which is great.
Trying not to be too cookie cutter and throw a couple of PODish types

D – Whitfield, Ryan, Witherden, Williams, Quaynor, Wilkie, Hor, Wigg

M – Cripps,Neale, Cogniglio, Dusty, Zerrett, Atley, Bewley, Valante, Constable, Hind, E.Smith

    R – Gawn, Grundy, Fort

F – Danger, Heeney, Darling, Moore, Setterfield, Parker, Burgess, Cavarra

    15.8k left.
I just can’t start Llyod with hip surgery in the pre season at over 600k, and besides last year could just be a spike, upgrade target if anything for me.
I don’t feel comfortable without Laird, he just shares the same bye round as williams and whitfield.

    1. Ryan and Witherden seem to be the Favour of the Week.
I’m either gonna fall behind the pack, or race to a singular lead! I hope it’s the latter 🙂

Kennedy and Bont could be great calls. I’d gamble on one only. And probably Bont as JJK gives you three Rd13 byes in your FWD line.

      Good luck!

  54. Okay I’ve got a bit of cash in reserve (okay, $98,000) in case one or two of these players bombs out early. So I’m extremely flexible:
Defenders: Lloyd, Whitfield, Hurn, Z Williams, Rozee, Wilkie with Hore and Wigg on Bench.
Mid: Cripps, Coniglio, Martin and Menegola and Dunkley (both mid/fwds), Stocker, Constable and Bewley with Mosquito (mid/fwd) , Velente and Hind on bench.
Ruck: Grundy and Toldstein with Sweet on bench.
Fwds: Danger, Smith, Heeney (all fwd/mids), Setterfield (fwd/mid), McAdam and Parker. Corbett and Cavarra on bench.
I figure if one or two aren’t performing in the first 3 or 4 wks, I’ve got the moolah to upgrade or move sideways to someone who shows signs of performing. Same strategy with the rookies.

Sicily Simpson Howe Collins Quaynor Scrimshaw (Wilkie Wigg)

      1. Better but Howe worries me. A good 90+ points scorer but not at D2. You need a certain 100+ point scorer here. Also reports are that Darcy Moore will be taking most of the kick ins (as long as he stays fit) and this could impact Howe’s scoring potential. Williams will give you similar point but at a much lower cost but you still need a gun defender at D2. Cheers and good luck…M.
