Prj 1955. But that score could be more. So what do you guys think I might start with this team. I know no danger fyfe cripps neale. Martin rather a pod team and hope it works for me.
Another year on and Nick’s spelling STILL hasn’t improved one bit… unbelievable.
Sorry if my spelling is of I put a word in and my ABC puts something else in
Even if my spelling is of are you really going have a crack at me and not going say a trying about m6 team. That’s pretty shit. You must be a crap person. I might stop going on this page
If I could understand a word you’re saying I’d be able to help.
Mate you’ve got a literal number in place of a letter in that first sentence. You need to start proof-reading your comments before hitting submit.
Thanks I didn’t realize that
Are we talking about men’s AFL supercoach here, or is this a Sheila’s site for WFL? What’s with all the spelling talk?
Whilst I’m sure some of the thumbs down are for the hot mess that is the spelling and grammar, I’m tipping most of the thumbs down are for the hot mess that is your midfield. I like that you’re trying to find something unique, but you don’t want 3-4 objectively worse unique options just for the sake of being different.
Treloar as a POD is good. McCluggage as a POD is ballsy, but could pay off. Hill and Merrett as PODS…I just don’t see the value.
I don’t think it’ll take much to fix up though. Ditch Stewart down back for a rookie – any name will do for now, pending round 1 teams. Maybe go with Young as he’s expensive and can therefore be swapped for a cheaper rookie without having to rework any premo picks.
That frees up about $350k. Use that $350k to fix the midfield. Hill and Merrett out for Macrae and Cripps, and you’ve got a few of the absolute top shelf as the core of your team (and captaincy options), whilst still having some PODs in Treloar and McCluggage.
If there’s money left, I’d then look at upgrading one of Steven or Smith in the forward line – just so you’re not opening yourself up to an absolute hiding if they both bust.
Will take the opportunity to add a little contextual tidbit worth considering during POD considerations.
You might think “I like having Hill, Merrett, McLuggage and Treloar as PODS, they should score well”.
I’m going into our head-to-head and thinking “Holy shit, I’ve got Macrae, Cripps, Dunkley and Dangerfield as PODS…”.
Are you comfortable with that?
DEF: Laird, Sicily, Docherty, Roberton, Young, Worrell (Bianco, Gould)

Rucks: Grundy, Gawn (Combden)
FWD: Whitfield, Martin, Smith, Hill, Flanders, Rankine (King, Cameron)
You’re missing a midfielder, but otherwise this team looks very similiar to the other ones that are getting upvoted. Strong across all lines, just need to wait on the rookies. Nice team
How was this team upvoted so much when he is missing a midfielder.
Really makes you wonder with some of the voting. Although he most likely has a gun mid at m5, for all we know it could be any crap rookie.
Regardless, cockatoo wont play round one, and he should be in your midfield anyway.
Defence has the potential to lose a lot of points. If Sicily and Laird average the same as last year you are in trouble.
it is lachie neale
I think you’ll find people don’t always count the names – they scan for “red flags” and vote based on that.
Currently rolling with this lineup and 43k in the bank:
DEF: Lloyd,Laird, Docherty,

FWD: Whitfield, Dusty, D. Smith

Deciding between Stephens and Bonar depending how they perform over marsh, and also keeping an eye on Bont, Dunks and Fyfe as potential swaps for a mid. Thoughts?
I like your team. Have you considered the Bye rounds ?
7 of your 12 starting Premo’s share the R13 Bye 🙁
If you’re just playing for league wins ( or Cash Leagues )
You can take a hit that week and you will probably kill it the other two.
If you going for overall ( Rankings ) You can really screw up around the Byes.
I “try ” to only start a max 4 / 5 /6 Premo’s ,over the Bye rounds 12 / 13 / 14. Of course, we would all like to start 15 Premo’s, so a more realistic structure would be 3 /5/4. or 2 / 5 / 5
This gives you some wiggle room as you can’t account for injuries and which Fallen Premiums ,will become available as your Pre Bye replacements / upgrades.
As you upgrade over the Byes you can only really select players that have had their Bye. Hence the scaled structure. You “ideally “want to start more R14 Bye players, but it rarely works out that way.
These are really more like loose guidelines than hard and fast “rules”
Last year I was well prepared although a little R13 Bye player heavy.
(most of us were) If I recall correctly there were a couple of rookies dropped ,and maybe a late out and I ended up eating a donut ( 17 scored)
Just goes to show even good planning can’t beat bad luck. Overall I still faired quite well.
I’m now more determined than ever to start a ” relatively ” Bye friendly side in 2020
Best of luck 😉

Your other lines are all good, although I read that Doedee is in doubt for rd1. No problem, just pick up Roberton. You forward line is where you can afford to experiment. Heeney mentioned that he will spend more time in the forwards this year, so I am not sold on him either. Let the MS finish and see who pops up as a likely candidate. Good luck….M.

Have been trying to formulate a team without the Grundy/Gawn combo and looking to take a decent amount of risk. Thoughts well and truly appreciated.
I think this is the biggest injury-risk team I’ve seen so far (Docherty, Fyfe, Kelly, Titch, Whitfield, Smith, Steven, Buddy), but if it pays off you’ll be right up there this year.
Thanks mate, definitely a huge helping of risk but I’m hoping it pays off. If a few go down early, it could be season over for sure.
This could work out well. For me, I would downgrade Franklin to a rookie as he won’t plat round 1, and upgrade Jacobs to Goldy. Good luck with it….M
Thanks Max, appreciate the reply. Is it confirmed Bud is out for R1? If so, what Rookie would you trade him down to? I have a feeling Sauce is in for a big year and at his price I like the potential value but will assess closer to Round 1. Goldy would definitely be my upgrade if I’m trying to avoid going with Gawn.
Georgiades, King, McAdam maybe. Just wait till rd2 of Marsh series to see who else is performing and likely to get a rd1 start. I have a feeling Young won’t get a Rd 1 start so maybe upgrade him to whoever you can afford Roberton? Houston if you have the cash…..M
Also Hill is worth a look and has dpp.
Jacobs isn’t much risk, but with shared ruck can’t see enough upside to him.
Personally I prefer Patton (top will be useful, could be a top 10 forward) or Naismith or Pittonet (much bigger upside but higher risk).
If Kreuzer is out for a while with his heart problem Pittonet could be a massive bargain.

*Disclaimer I’m not a Bonar fan.
As a thought you could run two loop holes in your team and make Bonar a cheap loophole and upgrade Gibbs.
Or Hill forward at F6 and a backline bottom price rookie on ground
What are your thoughts on Gibbs? Playing half back he’ll have an up year?
Backline and rucks are a tick.
Midfield is a tick with a question mark on Gibbs(?)
I think you’re probably batting too deep in the forward line but obviously your intend it so have no on ground rookies up front.
I think I am getting pretty close, trying to get a few cash cows earlier and trading up later on. Obviously need to keep an eye on the rookies early on.
Let me know what you think, any and all criticism welcome.

Hey Trent, I like this structure for the most part but there’s a couple of things that stand out:
Find a replacement for NicNat. He’s going to miss games this year, and play restricted minutes in the ones he does appear in. If you don’t want Gawn that’s fine – maybe better than fine – but not Nic.
And try to move Whitfield into the forwards and get another premium mid there instead, there are plenty to choose from and they will probably score higher than the fwd premiums you have there.
You are right about the rookies, plenty of time to sort those out. Good luck!
Hi Chillo, interested in why you think Nic Nat is still being managed, I know his getting older but he played finals last year and I’m assuming he has a full preseason under his belt.
Is he due to find his best again? I’m a Grawndy fan but with Big Maxy in doubt for the start of the season I’ve got Nic in as a short term replacement. Has shown to have a high ceiling and ppm are always up there.
Think I’m late to the party, can someone give a heads up as to why everyone seems to be going with Hayden Young?
Highly rated at pick #7, gobbled up by Freo, built like an elite interceptor and pretty much a walk up. All fantastic from an SC perspective, he’s a must have.
He was #1 at the NAB U18 Championship for intercept marks and intercept possessions, rated elite for ball use, meters gained and kicking efficiency and then, to top it all off, he won the NAB 2019 Agility Combine.
And he won’t play round one
Here is v2 88k bank. May

Rip it apart and don’t hold back all comments taken on board 🙂
A very solid team in my opinion.
I have gone with something very similar. My main differences are I have ( Currently ) Oliver, Heeney, T lynch (Rich)
To your Fyfe, Dusty , Bonar.
I only have $6K left so will probably need to downgrade someone in the scramble for the best rookies. Lynch is the first on the chopping block.
I know Heeney has had a busted thumb. I don’t think this will affect him too much, as he should still be running and won’t loose any fitness. I also think he will play more midfield. The Swans have retained Sam Reid and Tom Papley.
They have also recruited Forwards Sam Gray ( Port) and Lewis Taylor( Bris)
Add this to the Swans young talent like Blakey, Rowbottom, Hayward and T. McCartin.
I believe these things combined, will give Heeney the best chance to spend maximum time in the Midfield.
I still think you have a great team Shaun.
I would have no problem starting that team.
I’m just trying to squeeze out an extra potential keeper.
Best of luck in 2020
After reading FD’s last post “Swords and Shields” you may be better off with Dusty , he is a major Shield with 57% ownership.
I’m just now, starting to re-think not starting him.
Back to the drawing board. 😉
Hey FT – dont forget, there’s a difference to playing OA and H2H – an awful lot of teams will be H2H and a lot of “fans” playing for the sake of it … may just change the ‘true’ % for those playing OA … something to bear in mind when looking at the %!!
Quite like it but keep in mind you are going to have to get King & probably Rankine of the field & onto your bench.

Circa $20k in the bank
Main difference from the cookie cutter teams out there is that I’ve spent more money on fwds than def. Just feel at present there are so many 6 or 7 out of 10 options as premos down there while I have more clarity around the key forwards I want. Don’t want to just throw a premo def in just for “team balance”.
History also suggests than consistent scoring rookie defenders are easier to find than rookie forwards (tend to be small fwds who score 80 if they kick 3 and 25 if they don’t).
Team feels a premium short with how light you are down back, probably because you’ve got all the expensive rookies.
Looks good. Sensible midpricers all with potential big upsides
Cant see a general discussion thread so posting in here.
Anyone got word on Cockatoo’s hamstring injury. Will he be up for round 1.
In saying that give us a
Need to see Bonar against looked lost at times but worked into to it ok.
Def: Sicily, Docherty, Roberton, Young,
Hill, Gould, (Starcevich, Rivers)
Mid: McRae, Neale, Fyfe, Cripps, Dangerfield, Oliver, Rowell, Pickett, (McHenry, Robertson, Hibberd*)
Ruc: Grundy, Marshall (Comben)
Fwd: Whitfield, Greenwood, T. Lynch, Georgiades, Rankine, M King, (Worrell, Cavarra)
* I understand that Hibberd may not be fit for round 1, however, I am willing to have him on the bench if he plays early in the season. Saves me a trade and he is one of the better dirt cheap cash cow options in my view.
I’ve had Greenwood and T Lynch in the forward line from day one as they are the potential risks I am willing to take. Also allows me to go 6 deep in the midfield along with going a little light in defence. Danger may make way for T Mitchell – not based on Dangers game last night but on how Mitchell shapes up over the next few weeks.
Some rookies also TBC come round 1.
TU – Z. Williams/Bonar
TD – H. Clark/D.Smith
Top 2000 last 2 years looking to crack that top 1000 this year. Looks like a interesting one with the mid price madness and not much chop up forward!
Backs: Laird, Houston, Docherty, Roberton, Young, Starcevich (Bianco, Gould)
Mid: Macrae, Fyfe, Kelly, Cripps, Oliver, Rowell, Pickett, McHenry (Budarick, Rivers, Robertson)
Ruck: Grundy, Jacobs (Conroy loophole)
Fwd: Whitfield, Dusty, Heeney, Smith, Hill, Rankine (Smith, King)
Gone with mainly the standard premo/rookie lineup. Few injury risks all around the ground but that’s footy for you. Docherty, Roberton, Kelly and Oliver all done full pre seasons, to good to pass on. Taking a risk on Jacobs with the elite midfield around him I think he can score well purely just off taps to advantage and the rest will be a bonus. Seeing how Heeney looks closer to round 1, think you gotta just lock in the elite forwards this year instead of guessing and not wasting trades, all proven scorers. Keeping eye on greenwood and Brayshaw though.
Look forward to hearing the thoughts from the best of the best! Good luck boys
I’ve been big on Greenwood I wouldve liked to have seen a little bit more from him against a Geelong team that didn’t turn up, that being said he does average under 17 touches a game over his career so 25 is a step in the right direction even if only pre-season.
I’m not going to finalise my side till r1 teams are out, but from what I’ve seen so far, Rowell is the only rookie lock.
Assuming named R1 I’d say Buderick is a lock at that price with the swing, need to see more from Sparrow, Georgiades, Mchenry, Starcevich, King, Butts but i wouldn’t be putting a line through any of them yet.
Let me know…
Def: Williams, Sicily, Ellis, Young, Cottrell, Gould (Worrell, Bianco)
Mid: Macrae, Neale, Cripps, Dunkley, Oliver, A. Bradshaw, Rowell, Pickett (Valente, Maginness, Taylor)
R: Grundy, Gawn (Comben)
Fwd: Whitfield, Heeney, Smith, Bonar, Hill, Rankine (Cameron, King)
Bradshaw and Ellis are my POD/worries at the moment.
Personally I’d just go Doc or Houston instead of Ellis & downgrade Brayshaw but it’s personal opinion
Regardless, cockatoo wont play round one, and he shouldn’t be in your midfield anyway.
TU: Rory Laird 49 from 45% game time
TD: Dan Houston 96 from 71%
If it’s between them 2 laird the proven scorer if the extra money gets you to something else that you otherwise can’t Houston still a good pick
right now, I can have a kennerley/butts and laird, or houston and a starcevich/williamson
ideally though, i would be able to find another 35k to get bonar in as a fwd
TU: Neale/ Rowell
TD: Dunkley/ Doedee
anyone else worried about basement proved rookies that will actually get a game?
Yes but I think we always are this time of pre-season.
You never know until round 1.
This is why I favour higher draft picks, but the surprise budget rookie who gets a long run is always a big winner cash wise
Def: Sicily, Houston, Docherty, Milera, Young, Ling, Rivers, Gould
Mid: Neale, Fyfe, Cripps, Bont, Oliver, Rowell, Bonar, Pickett, Mchenry, Robertson, Mead
Ruck: Marshall, O’Brien, Cameron
Fwd: Martin, Greenwood, Petracca, Smith, Stengle, Rankine, Budarick, Close
Pretty much entire cap spent.
Any feedback would be Appreciate.
Lock or wait and see? (What about Rozee & Greenwood)
All 3 look promising, but all 3 won’t pay off. That’s the midprice risk.
I worry Greenwood will improve, but enough? Doesn’t need a huge jump to be viable as an F6.
Petracca has all the goodies to go big, but has a pretty peppered history.
Wait and see, promising early signs
Docherty and Petracca. or. Caleb DAniel and Devon Smith
Docherty and Smith
Def: Williams, Houston, Docherty, Starcevich, Bianco, Rivers (Gould, Worrell)

Ruc: Grundy, Gawn (Comben)
Fwd: Whitfield, Greenwood, Petracca, Rozee, Cameron, King (Rankine, Cahill)
Swapping between Macrae and Neale at M1. Big risk in the forward line, am confident that greenwood will finish in the top 6/8 fwds. Petracca and rozee are risky but I believe they can also finish top 6/8 fwds. Let me know what you think
Risky but looks good.
Rookies will obviously change but that is the same with all of us.
Like most lines but think the forward line is still one good player short. Cameron and King are a risk and ok for F6 but not F5 and F6.
Ryan. Houston. Doc. Doedee ? Young. Gould.
Neale. Fyfe. Cripps. Yeo. Martin. Rowell.
Pickett. Philp. Valente. Robertson. Budarick
Grundy. Nic Nat. Xerri
Whitfield. Walters. Heeney. Smith
Hill. Rankine. King. Cavarra
Ditch Heeney or Walters and move Martin to the forwards then use the cash to pick up Oliver in the mids.
Walters imho had a career season. Don’t expect him to score as well or play as many games ever again.
We talk about trading in chasing last week’s points.
You are chasing last year’s points.
TU-Danger. Is bye friendly, is danger and won’t regress too much.
TD-Trealore. Not so bye friendly. Did he peak last season? But still a good safe option and has a good chance to be top 6.
Personally would go neither. Danger has been available for a substantial discount every year for last 3 years.
-189k at one point last year.
Better options for similar money.
Sure, but I’m going 8 deep this year. The last spot is between Fyfe(play fwd and im defiantly starting Kelly) , Danger(sliding this season?, but great for the byes), trealor(peaked already, generally bad DE) and Bont(bad for byes).
Not punting on anyone who hasn’t or most likely won’t ave 115.
P.S. Rowell at m-9 for quick upgrade and cover so I don’t need to trade out anyone other than a LTI.
Maby just go bont and stuff the byes.
Lol anyone reading this who would you pick?
Hey, TOF. Problems with all four of the contenders you listed to fill your M8 spot.
Bont is that he has De Toer twice by R13. Does he make up the deficit of those two tagged games in the other 11? Maybe, but I’d grab him post-bye.
Danger starts with De Boer, so that’s a no from me.
Fyfe likely cops Clarke in R1, but Freo’s run after that is soft.
DE and CP ratio remains Treloar’s problem.
Have you considered Boak or Yeo maybe?
No I haven’t considered. But I think yeo has peaked and boak won’t quite cut it this season. But I have a plan.
With Rowell at m-9 I can loop the tagged mid. Hence starting Oliver and now probably bont.
Looking forward to seeing your full team.
Post Marsh 1 team
Changes. Starcevitch out, just doesn’t look the best option for the cash. Butts in.
Cameron out, Xerri in. That was a blinders of a game, and North works better for the byes, especially if he is an honest chance to play as R/F.
King out. Buderick in. Cash required, but dpp and performance are part of that.
Smith out, McDonald in. Always had trepidation over Smith and McDonald was in my team earlier. Far more likely to be a keeper.
Petracca is on a serious watch, but generating the cash will be darn hard.
Def: Houston, Doc, Doedee, Roberton, Young, Williamson (Butts, Gould)
Mid: Macrae, Neale, Fyfe, Kelly, Cripps, Rowell, Stephenson, Pickett (McHenry, Valente, Robertson)
Ruck: Grundy, Patton (Xerri)
Fwd: Whitfield, Dusty, Heeney, McDonald, Bonar, Hill (Rankine, Budarick)
HH love the fact you are thinking outside the box with Patton. What do you think he will average? 80? Xerri has been impressive in the games I have watched. Uncertain about McDonald with such an inconsistent year in 2019 (9 scores under 65). Also unsure on Smith and yes the Truck is more $$.
I see Patton as a cheap option who will swing forward when Gawn has come in and stabilized in price (-10% for deflation, plus some injury loss).
Is Patton potentially an F6 for much of the season and then good Ruck Forward cover?
Hawthorn were unimpressive but he got 3.2 on a tough night on his return match after 2 years.
Problem at GWS was he was an 80 point player, although he’s really m issed GWS’s recent good form so that is a bit hard to judge. But he is a bit older now and that development and being the target in a well coached and developed team might bring him additional benefits.
He really only needs to get to 90 ppg to be a keeper with his flexibility which is not beyond him.
It does mean I bleed points from the ruck compared to a starting G/G combo, if Gawn is fit for round 1, but gives an extra ruck in that crucial bye, so that is about 80 points back.
He’s also not going to lose money barring freak outcomes, and gaining money + extra points is always good.
Of course every starting dollar is worth points elsewhere and I’m pretty happy with TMcD at f4 and all of the top 5 mids to begin with and an R2 who might be a keeper in the forward line if I am lucky..
My take is an interrupted preseason is normally supercoach poison. Sure, rucks are unique because height is as important as fitness… but it’s a risk I am willing to take while we talk about Gawn potentially missing the start of the season.
This will attract plenty of thumbs down. But here goes.
If you like Houston then you gotta like Petracca more.
1. similar price
2. both expected to play more mid time
3. Petracca has thinned down and is fitter which makes me believe he will play mids and tells me he is working hard
4. there are less viable options in SC FWDs than there are in SC DEFs, which makes Petracca more likely to finish higher up in FWDs than Houston will in DEFs.
5. All things being equal – Petracca has more talent than Houston so given similar midfield opportunity and applying same aptitude (see point 2) then talent wins out
Not disagreeing with you, just not sure Petracca’s game was more than a freak. I do think in many ways he is a safer bet than Houston, given price and potential..
The second issue is the stability of all the defensive “premos” is pretty questionable.
Lloyd – impact of Dawson?
Laird – Doedee/Milera?
Williams – loses midfield time, Buntine?
Sicily – Frost, forward role? Sicily himself?
Houli – Career season
Hurn – Missed games, Yeo?
Stewart – Injury
Daniel – Missed games, Keath?
I look at them and see a lot of downside risk on most of them, so I would rather choose one with upside who should be thereabouts.
I am seriously considering Nathan Jones though, has a big upside for the price at a substantial injury risk though.
T/U – Chayce Jones at F3
T/D Stephen Hill at F3
Geez, how deep are you elsewhere?
My bad, F4!!
Okay Champs – have picked my team and I am happy with it.
BUT, how much cash should I retain for upgrades or emergencies come Round 1, 2, 3 etc?
Is there wisdom in holding some cash back or do we spend it all on getting the best starting squad possible and work out team changes as they happen?
TU – Spend it all. Best team possible is the goal.
TD – Keep some 50-100K for team changes.
Neither your team must be pretty dookie if they are gona be your F3
Heya Coaches, hope you’re all looking forward to the season. Teams currently looking like so:
D: Williams, Daniel, Houston, Young, Starcevich, Brander (Rivers, Gould)
M: Macrae, Neale, Fyfe, Dunkley, Oliver, Rowell, Stephens, Pickett (Bytel, Bianco, Mead)
R: G+G (Cameron)
F: Whitfield, Dusty, Bonar, Hill, Sparrow, Georgides (King, Budarick)
I feel pretty comfortable with my on field mids. FWDs and DEFs rookies are really up in the air. Awaiting a rookie to really make a dint in the Marsh series. Would really appreciate any suggestions.
What are people;s thoughts on Lachie Weller this year? Had a bit of a run through the guts on the weekend which is always a good sign. Could be a nice difference maker
Sam, it’s a no from me. Have a read of Father Douglas post today on POD’s. Good luck…..M.
worth watching .. 75 SCP @ 48% TOG… Impressive… but the opposition were not “on”.
Pretty similar lineup to Catta.
Only dilemma is whether to go Dangerfield over Mitchell (potential limited game time)
Def: Laird, Sicily, Docherty, Hill, Young, Gould (Pina, Rivers)
Mids: Neale, Fyfe, Kelly, Cripps, Mitchell, Towell, Stephens, Pickett (McHenry, Robertson, Mead)
Ruck: Grundy, Gawn (Comben)
Fwd: Whitfield, Martin, Smith, Bonar, Sturt, Rankine (Cameron, King)
Also keen on Wingard but can’t seem to fit him into my broader team structure due to budgetary reasons.
Edited my side to include Lloyd at the expense of Laird and Bont at the expense of Fyfe. I think this could net me 5+ per game on average initially.
Doesn’t sound good for Hayden Young (Freo).
Sounds good for Ryan!
Not really, because then you’ll be starting Ryan expecting a decrease in his output. Ideally we’d want to see them play together and gauge who’s going to do most of the intercept work.
Not sounding good for either Young or Valente.
Young is an easy fix. Hill to def bring in Frampton.
As for Valente, he’s one of many 123k rookies.
Hey Guys, would appreciate your feedback.
Still early on so some will defs change. FWDS a bit weak imo.
Def: williams laird sicily doedee hill gould (young rivers)
Mid: Fyfe J.Kelly Cripps Bont Sloane Rowell Pickett Robertson (Valante Bianco Mead)
Ruc: Grundy ROB (Comben)
FWD: Whit, Buddy, C.Jones vandenBerg Pickett Rankine (Georgiades, Cameron)
$200k odd left
Frazels find the money to swap Sloane for Oliver. I can’t see Sloane being a top 10 mid. I can understand not having Gawn if it means you have an extra premo in the mids but you don’t.
Buddy won’t plat rd1, Jones and Vandenberg are not worth the money. Better to get cheap rookies who will earn you cash. Get Greenwood or Smith instead. If you really want to play dangerously try Petracca…good luck…M.
Personally feel like v’berg has better scoring potential than Roberton or Doedee, due to his role. Would also take him over Bonar, if peeps can find an extra 40k.
You may be right. My issue with v’berg is whether he fits in the Dees best 22. He is not a keeper so he will need to average 85ish if he is going to be a useful stepping stone to upgrade. See what he does next game…..M
Sloane out, Oliver in
Buddy and vandenberg out, Dev Smith and Parish/Greenwood/Dawson/Petracca in.
These changes would give you many more points imo and use up that $200k you’ve got sitting there making nothing for you.
Doedee also needs to go – won’t play until round 2 at least. Find a Def rookie.
DEF: Lloyd, Laird, Sicily, Hill, Young, Bianco (Rivers, Gould)
MID: Macrae, Neale, Cripps, Bont, Oliver, Rowell, Pickett, Mead (McHenry, Bennell, Budarick)
RUC: Grundy, Lycett (Cameron)
FWD: Walters, Martin, Steven, Smith, Rankine, King (Worrell, Comben)
Looks good with the glaring exception of Lycett and the omission of Whitfield, Thomas.
Lycett’s first 5 ruck match ups are Witts, ROB, Goldy, Nic Nat & Hickey and then Grundy. He will get smacked up in most, if not all, of those match ups- spare yourself the pain and just get Gawn in.
Then you’ve also got to have Whitfield. Even if he gets injured again (a repeat of freak collarbone accident seems to unlikely imo), he’s still going to net more points than any other FWD option. Get him in.
Other than that, team looks solid. Good structure and I liked how you’ve backed in Neale and Lloyd.
Is Gawn likely to play Rd1?
Def: Laird, Houston, Docherty, Young, Starcevich, Williamson (Rivers, Gould)
Mid: Macrae, Neale, Fyfe, Cripps, Bont, Rowell, Anderson, Pickett (Robertson, McHenry, Mead)
Ruck: Grundy, ROB (Conroy)
For: Whitfield, Martin, Greenwood, Bonar, Hill, M King (Cameron, Rankine
G&G, just do it. Don’t even think about it just make it happen. Otherwise you’ll lose too many points that you can’t get back.
See what ROB got in short time? He’s at least worth a “watch” status.
True, but was up against a rookie. ROB will score well but Gawn will score 15 to 20 points more. Next game will give a better indication of how ROB is tracking.
Rob is at a good age to go boom, and doesn’t have to share ruck which hurt his scoring in a few games last year.
And a concussion/injury affected score too.
He should do better.
I still think he’ll suffer at the hands of the monster rucks though.
T/U: Goldstein & Merrett
T/D: Lycett & Cripps
Neither is the best option.
Lycett has a shocking starting run, and I’m not onboard the Zerrett train.
Accidently posted twice and can’t delete on my phone. Sorry guys.
Can you provide Your Ruck selection.?
GG and Whitfield (fwd) have about 2.6mill left for the players on field. Just need the rest to ave from 50-80 for a decent start. Obviously the more 70+ ave the better.
These are the Questions I ask myself when selecting Keepers.
1. Will Bont be top 10 midfeild by years end.? (Yes)
2. Are you concerned with the Tag.? (No)
3. How many games has he missed in 4years.? (Not many)
4. Right age for Increase in Avg.? (Yes)
5. Consistent return last 3 years.? (Yes)
Personally I can see no reason for not starting Bont. And if you decide to run 8 through the Midfield, Is a must have.
Yep, and like as AS pointed out, one dog will go big every week almost and the others should go at leased 100. So hopefully locking in at leased one 140min score every week.
This is for the M5 spot
TU: Josh Kelly
Money not an issue
I was a massive Rowbottom fan last year but seeing no love this time around. Is it just his price that’s off-putting or am I missing something else?
I was looking to take a risk on Townsend (ESS) at $222,900 but I’m leaning instead towards have scrounging up $110k to try and get Rowbottom in…
Def: Williams, Houston, Docherty, Starcevich, Williamson, Murphy (Rivers, Gould)
Mids: Macrae, Fyfe, Cripps, Mitchell, Bont, Rowell, Anderson, Green (Pickett, Valente, Budarick)
Ruck: Gawn, Grundy (Conroy)
Fwds: Whitefield, Martin, Gresham, Georgeiades, Rankine, Close (King, Mahoney)
Hayden Young apparently injured… any further news on this?
Will he play round 1 or should we make plans without him?
Always have a plan B for rookies.
Still a little time yet.
DEF: Laird, Sicily, Houston, Doch, Williamson, Gould (Worrell and Rivers)
MID: Neale, Fyfe, Cripps, Mitchell, Bont, Rowell, Mchenry, Pickett (Valente, Robertson, Mead)
RCK: Grundy, Patton (Xerri)
FWD: Whitfield, Martin, Petracca, Bonar, Hill, Rankine (King, Budarick)
BOII’ I think its a good team be remove one of your star defenders like sicily and upgrade patton to a rob or something
Patton has dpp and will be a money maker, at least, if not a forward keeper.
3.2 in a losing side in basically his first game for 2 years doesn’t exactly suggest he’s gonna be a spud.
Good option if you run a cheeper R2 to start the season.
I think this is a jlt special, take a step back and let all the pre season roll on 🙂
DEF: Williams, Laird, Weller, Brander, Greaves, Gould (Bianco, Rivers)
MID: Neale, Fyfe, Cripps, Danger, Bont, Rowell, Serong, Pickett (McHenry, Robertson, Budarick)
RUC: GG (Comben)
FWD: Whit, Heeney, Tracca, Hill, Rankine, King (Georgiades, Sturt)
Honest thoughts on this team??
Yep, Harley. Looks good. Weller and Petracca are flyers at this stage however, wait for one more game from them both.
Look for whether Petracca is still attending center bounces and is unimpaired by Brayshaw’s return and see how Weller goes with better TOG than 48%.
TU: Hill (F5) & Rivers (M10)
TD: Stephens (M7) & Valente (M10) [via shifting Budarick to F6/7]
TU: Hill (F5)
TD: Stephens (M7) – via Budarick DPP switch to F6/7
I’d be waiting for both of them to play before choosing one over the other.
With Doedee and Young’s availability in question, it has freed up some cash. Which poses the question of, is having Stephens on your bench, when your running a 6 premium deep + Rowell and Pickett, worth it?
Problem I’m having as well, LG. Would feel wasteful having a good scoring, expensive rookie on the bench, wouldn’t it? Hmm.
I’m leaning towards dropping the 6th prem, solidifying the defence by bringing in Houston and upgrading a forward rookie to Dawson/DSmith. Options, too many options
I thinking the same. Hoping Stephens and Pickett can provide good cover if one of the ubers misses a week.
Starting to Warm to Serong. Not point having a mid rookie stuck on 3 or 4 games and not generating cash.?
Would love some feedback on this please guys
DEF: Laird, Sicily, Docherty, S. Hill, H. Young, Gould (Brander, Kennerley)
MID: Macrae, Neale, Fyfe, J. Kelly, P. Cripps, Rowell, D. Stephens, M. Pickett (Serong, McHenry, Close)
RUC: Grundy, Gawn (Conroy)
FWD: Whitfield, D. Martin, D. Smith, Georgiades, Rankine, Budarick (M. King, Mahony)
I’ve got 9k spare currently but would love to find a way to get a Bonar type in
Structure’s good, like how you forked out for top shelf MID premos and have also correctly backed in G&G.
Only issue would be your two DEF premos. Need to see Laird play again after Milera and Gibbs appeared to be stealing his thunder and seeing Sicily on the park would put everyone’s mind at ease.
Best of luck.
Cheers GD, the DEF premos have been playing on my mind a bit recently for those exact reasons, especially Laird. Which others would you recommend? Think it might be tough to get enough coin for Lloyd, Houston is another I have considered but I think he is a bit of a risk given he isn’t proven. Z. Williams is another I have considered, although I’m not completely sold on him. Who would you vouch for? Thanks
Lloyd-Houston combo looks promising, Dylan. I still like Lloyd, will only be dissuaded if Dawson eats his lunch in the Marsh Series, and Houston put up a 96 from 71% TOG and 68% DE.
Also rate Hurn and Houli tbh, in clearly defined roles and had career best seasons thanks to the kick in rule. Everyone harps on about their age but they wouldn’t have put up career best seasons in their twilight and be competing at the elite level if they were as geriatric as everyone makes them out to be- both are premiership winning defenders for a reason.
You’re right on Zwilliams. Similar to Docherty in that if their role and fitness look solid, there’s a case to be made for starting them both.
tearing what’s left of my hair out on this!
DEF: Laird, Docherty, Roberton, Houston, Young, Starcevich (Gould, Bianco)
MID: Macrae, Neale, Cripps, Fyfe, Oliver, Pickett, Rowell, McHenry (Rivers, Budarick, Robertson)
RUC: Grundy, Jacobs (Conroy)
FWD: Whitfield, Martin, Heeney, Smith, Hill, Rankine (King, Worrell)
Heeney and Fyfe aren’t filling me with confidence, especially with the Bont’s performance in the Marsh. Open to any opinions
Talk of more forward time for Fyfe is starting to make me waver too
I wouldn’t worry about the Marsh Series when it comes to your premo picks. Team looks great. If I was picking a premo F2 it would be Heeney. Durable, despite carrying an injury all season last year. A thumb won’t have affected his pre-season loads, and I see him improving in 2020. Perhaps enough to be top2 total scorers.
Def: Laird, Houston, Docherty, Young, Starcevich, Williamson (Greaves, Gould)
Mid: Macrae, Neale, Fyfe, Cripps, Bont, Rowell, Anderson, Pickett (Collier Dawkins, McHenry, Mead)
Ruck: Grundy, ROB (Conroy)
For: Whitfield, Martin, Greenwood, Bonar, Hill, M King (Georgiades, Rankine)
Probably change rookies throughout
Young has a niggle and though he may yet play early, should now be a watch only. Running with the rehab group today.
Looks great. Especially structure.
Had to make a few changes because of Doedee. Feedback appreciated
DEF: Sicily, Houston, Docherty, Young, Starcevich (Worrell, Gould)
MID: Neale, Fyfe, Cripps, Dunkley, Oliver, Rowell, Pickett, Robertson (McHenry, Rivers, Budareck)
RUC: Grawndy (Cameron)
FOR: Whitfield, Martin, Smith, Bonar, Hill, King (Rankine, Cavarra)
Only $2.8k itb
Well balanced. Different picks, but so be it.
Whilst a 3-5-2-2 structure sees to be the template, pending further Marsh fixtures I’m currently looking at the following on-field Rookies and intend to build a team around them:
DEFS: Starcevich, Williamson, Brander and Gould
MIDS: Rowell and Pickett
FOR: Georgiades and Rankine
Would appreciate any discussion and personal experiences had using a 2-6-2-2 structure.
Great way to look at it. Not sure about Rankine yet, but others will show themselves. You may find you have enough cash to dump your worst off-field rookies for onfield value picks; improving your weekly score, making the same money AND being able to upgrade earlier.
This is EXACTLY what I do.
1. What rookies am I happy to have onfield?
2. Do I have enough decent depth options to make that happen?
3. Pick ALL the Premos I am not willing to live without (min. 10)
4. Where am I at?
5. Spend sleepless nights adjusting the rest, WITHOUT COMPROMISING 1-3
You know round one is approaching, when the first thing you do in the morning, even before coffee, is look over you team.?
Misses thinks I need help.?
Reg I thought of doing this as well and the money made on the rookies on-field would be fantastic if they all play. However it is a huge risk and what happens when a couple of rookies are dropped and never resurface again. I have seen it happen most years. It all depends on the security of the rookies.
4 backline onfield rooks looks a bit too thin. Say 2 out of the 4 you selected get a gig R1, you have to find 2 more onfield rooks plus 2 for the bench. Backline rooks are the hardest to find, Starc, Willo and Gould are no better than 50/50 to play round 1.
Who will average more?
T/U – Stewart
T/D – Laird
Who will score more points is the question, if you’re considering starting one not the other.
Dunno, but I reckon Laird will score more points, but Stewart will average more from Rd8-9 onwards.
Stewart is underdone and it shows. Laird had a nice little cameo run around before the SOO this weekend.
Running 6 through the Midfield Oliver at M6 Rowell Pickett.
Which Combo looks better
TU Lloyd Sicily Doc Grundy ROB
TD Laird Sicily Cerra Grundy Gawn
must be thin at the front vicwood?
Lots of value in the Forward Line. Whitfield will most likely return best average but not so sure on overall points.? Other from last years top 8 don’t interest me.
Dusty as a FWD is a gift, history says he plays all games maybe misses one.?
Greenwood Rozee Petracca Smith TMac Lynch Brayshaw Acres
Could come down to a coin toss.?
TU Sicily / Georgiades
TD Petracca / Bonar
Ask again after MEL’s second JLT!
Hmmm lol. Good to see everyone is as confused as me. Lol
Tossing up on M5:
T.U – Jacob Hopper
T.D – Hugh McCluggage
In the last few days have traded down Young (freo) to butts (could change, pending selection), cripps to bont, danger to Oliver and cockatoo to bytel… this has allowed me to upgrade doedee to Clark.
What do you think
Laird, Sicily, Docherty, Clark, butts, gould (McLennan, ling)
Neale, bont, treloar, Oliver, Rowell, sier, Pickett, mchenry (bytel, sharp, rivers)
Gawn Grundy (comben)
Whitfield, Walters, Martin, Smith, hill, Rankin (king, budarick)
Best outta these 2?
Def: Williams, Sicily, Docherty, Starcevich, Cottrell, Gould (worrell, rivers)
Mid: Macrae, Neale, Bont, Oliver, Tim Kelly, Coniglio, Rowell, Pickett (Mchenry, robertson, bianco)
Fwd: Whitfield, Stevens, Devon Smith, Stephen Hill, Rankine, King, (Georgiades, Xerri)
Not sure if i should remove a mid premo like cogs and strengthen my forward and backline
Whether you’re running 6 MID premos or not, I’d get rid of Coniglio. Slated to play more FWD this year:
Looking for a strong POD in my MIDs and Treloar has been looking enticing.
5th in total points, 9th in avg and only 8% ownership.
T/U Lock him in
T/D Go for cripps, danger, Jelly or Titchell
Treloar has been in and out of my side all preseason.
He actually averaged 127 post byes in 2019. He seemed to slow down a bit and take a bit more time to get rid of the ball. This upped his DE ( his main knock really)
I really like the selection but his R13 Bye makes him a hard to pick in my side. I already have Cripps and Oliver in the Mids and Grundy and Gawn in the Rucks.
I still think he is a very safe Mid pick and should average 115+
I think Cripps is an even better pick, and could go 120+ if the Blues can win a few more games ( likely)
Def: Laird, Houston, Docherty, Clark , rookies TBD
Mids: Jelly, Cripps, Dunkley, Treloar, Oliver, rookies TBD
Ruck: Grundy, ROB (comben)
Forwards: Whitfield, Martin, Heeney, Hill, rookies TBD
T/U: Williams and Vlastuin
T/D: Stewart and Sicily
Comments: other alternatives for $1.05M
Williams and Docherty
Not sure if this has been done already..
Both excellent choices.
Bont will get the tags. Might get him a little cheaper later.
I think Dunkley has upside.
I can’t really remember bont being phased too much by tags last season.
None the less it will be interesting to see how he copes with added attention from oppositions and if macrae/dunks will share that attention.
Thoughts on this team, I’m liking the structure and picks a lot. $41k in the bank.
DEF: C.Daniel, D.Houston, S.Docherty, S.Hill, H.Young, W.Gould (T.Bianco, T.Rivers)
MID: J.Macrae, J.Kelly, P.Cripps, T.Mitchell, M.Bontempelli, M.Rowell, D.Stephens, M.Pickett (N.McHenry, L.Valente, D.Robertson)
RUC: B.Grundy, M.Gawn (L.Meek)
FWD: L.Whitfield, M.Walters, D.Smith, A.Bonar, S.Sturt, C.Budarick (I.Rankine, M.King)
DEF: Laird, Sicily, Docherty, Young (Freo), Bianco, Gould. (Cottrell, Rivers)
MID: Macrae, Cripps, Dunkley, Danger, Oliver, Rowell, Pickett, Mead. (McHenry, Valente, Budarick)
RUC: Grundy, Gawn (Conroy)
FWD: Whitfield, Dusty, Steven, Smith, Hill, Rankine. (Cameron, King)
Pretty happy with what i have got here at the moment, only concerns lay around having both Dev Smith and Jack Steven in the forward line, but not sure who to bring in if i do an upgrade/downgrade with them. Possible upgrade options in consideration are one of Greenwood, Parish, Gunston (Addition of Patton may allow him to play permanent wing and average about 95).
All thoughts appreciated.
I really like your side overall but..
I’m not sure how much cash you have?
You may need to down grade one of Smith or Stevens ( Bonar ? ) to allow for a bit more cash for the rookies, Mainly Back and Mid.
Bianco, Rivers and Mead all pretty doubtful for R1 at this stage. One of them might pop up but it would take an Injury.
H Young looks to miss R1 also 🙁
Maybe you can use some of his cash ?
We can only hope a few other cheapies show up somewhere in the next few games.
TU Lloyd, Mcrae, Fyfe, Bonar with 60K cash left
TD Williams, Dunkley, Oliver, Greenwood with no cash left
Or i just go Fyfe to Dunks and leave the rest
and more $$
Def: lloyd, williams, docherty, l ash, s hill, w gould i/c greaves rivers
Mid: Macrae, j. Kelly, cripps, oliver, mitchell, pickett, rowell, robertson. I/c philp, budarick, north.
Ruc : grundy, marshall i/c comben
Fwd: whitfield, martin, smith, bonar, weightman, rankine i/c bergman and brander. Obviously a few rookies to look at and not completely sold on a cpl of premos yet!!!
TU- the players and coaches will take pride tonight and actually play properly?
TD- It’s a bit of fun for them all, just playing off a script the AFL sent them.
Def – Lloyd, Laird, Docherty, S Hill, Young, Gould.
Mid – Macrae, Neale, Cripps, Bont, Rowell, Bonar, Collier-Dawkins, Mead. Pickett/Philp/Robertson.
Ruck – Grundy, Gawn.
Fwd – Heeney, Dawson, T Lynch, D Smith, Rankine, Budarick.
I have 350k in the bank which I’ll use once the rookies are sorted (which are very much being picked on a game by game basis).
I’m hoping to upgrade one of my mids to oliver/merrett/t kelly.
bottom of the list so probably won’t get a look in but if anyone’s scrolled down enough opinions on team would be unreal!
FWD line feels lean AF but not much to pick from.
DEF: Daniel, Sicily, Docherty, Robertson, Young, Starcevich (Goddard, Gould)
MID: Macrae, Neale, Dangerfield, Bontempelli, Oliver, Rowell, Stephenson, Pickett (Mchenry, Collier-Dawkins, Bytel)
RUCK: Grundy, Gawn (Draper)
FWD: Whitfield, Dusty, Bonar, Hill, Kropinyeri, Rankine (King, Cavarra)
Deebo, nothing wrong with this team. Most coaches are taking a chance on the forward line as there are precious few no-brainers. My preference would be to change Danger for Cripps. Young won’t play rd1 so you can save a little cash there and use it somewhere else. Good luck….M
I’m sure he will post something similar this year but i have taken the liberty to post a link to the good Fathers analysis of Cow growth from 2019… http://supercoachtalk.com/cow-growth-reference-tables-2019/
a brilliant planning resource
Love to know what you think! I’ve not gone with the Grundy/Gawn Combo. Hoping that risk pays off as I spend my money elsewhere 🙂
DEF: Lloyd, Williams, Houston, Docherty, Roberton, Hill (Rivers, Gould)
MID: Neale, Dunkley/Bont, Whitfield, Kelly, Hannebery, Rowell, Pickett, McHenry (Robertson, Mead, Budarick)
RUCK: Gawn, Jacobs (Comben)
FWD: Martin, Parish, Gray, Steven, Bonar, Rankine (Cameron, King)
Darcy parish worth looking at after last night’s game. 66% game time and racked em up.
it’s just who gets midfield time at the bombers.
Parish, Smith, Townsend or Hibbard could be supercoach relevant, just not all at the same time.
Last night was probably the least relevant Marsh game yet. Eagles were giving all these kids a run, barely tried and were without Gaff and Yeo- thus inflating the scores of Essendon’s earnest MIDs.
Wouldn’t look into it at all. Dons next match against the Cats will be more telling.
So eagles were giving their kids a run ?? Tell me what you know about Zerk-Thatcher, Mosquito, Hamm, Jones, not to mention Teakle, McBride, Lockyer. There was one Eagles name I didn’t know….Treacy.
Dons without Hooker, Heppell, Bellchambers, Stringer, Ambrose, Saad, Mckenna.
Bombers got heaps out of the game…..more than Eagles.
Zerk Thatcher worth considering
Think mosquito has so much raw skill it’s ridiculous. He will be a star, but wont get enough of the ball for me to pick him in SC. Took Eddie Betts years to have an 80 odd average and not much more. Mossi looked puffed a lot.
Jeez, Wighty. I usually appreciate your commentary and have some good banter with you, but your Dons floggery has been nauseating.
First of all, it doesn’t matter how MANY outs each team had, but WHO those outs were. McGovern, Sheppard, Darling, Gaff and Yeo are all rated ELITE in their roles by Champion Data, All Australian players, 4/5 are premiership players- not to mention 3 were away for the State of Origin Game, other two injured.
Contrast those with the Dons outs you mentioned:
Now, I love Heppell but he is not in the top tier of midfielders. Excellent leader but rated below average by CD for clearances, goals and assists and rated poor for tackles. Saad and McKenna are both very good and will shape up to be competition best defenders, but neither are at that stage rn.
That’s really as generous as I can be.
The rest of the players you named are 2nd and 3rd rate. Hooker? Still doesn’t have a role. Ambrose? Rated -39% poor by CD at 28 years old. Stringer? Inconsistent, either busts the game open or does nothing. Bellchambers? Yet to master the complicated art of jumping.
You were rattling off about the Dons putting on a “premiership” performance in a lightning-interrupted Marsh game. What happened last time you played the Eagles in a REAL game? You were sent on your way in a final by 10 goals.
I’m sorry, Wighty. Not only was there no equivalency in the outs from the game, but there is no equivalency between the Eagles and Dons as teams.
Don’t get me wrong, I like Dons (and you). You’ll get up there one day, until then: stick to the facts.
Wow, GD, with banter like that you definitely should be in the SCTallstars league!
Bellchambers… That was hilarious!!
Definitely a first emergency for next year !!
First of all you have quoted some valid stats, but I believe your over reliance on champion data stats is fraught with danger. There are plenty of examples i can give you that leaves you scratching your head with champion data stats. I will just give you one according to CD, NM have the 2nd best midfield and GWS have the 14th best. I’m not sure about you but i bet everyone would agree GWS mids are better than north. That alone speaks volume of the CD credentials.
Secondly I agree WCE were missing some very good players, but i think you are missing the point here, if you look at a percentage of the players missing from their respective best 22, bombers would have a higher percentage.
Bottom line it was a preseason game. Clubs try to avoid injury and trust me they play to win, if they lose no big deal doesn’t count, but if they win it gives the winning team some confidence moving forward.
and finally your comments about there is no equivalency between both teams i find a little disrespectful. But you are right there is no equivalency between both teams. One is over 100 years old the other has been around for 5 minutes one has won 16 premierships the other 4. One has a major award named after one of their players (Coleman Medal), the other has no such award. The bombers play in marque games (ANZAC day, dreamtime), the Eagles only have the derby.
Don’t get me wrong i like the eagles (and you) but until the eagles can increase their fan base and play in some more marketable games stick to reality and stop belittling other teams
Nice comment….I am soooo tempted to add something about premierships and drugs when we talk about culture, but that would open another can of worms !!!
I thought it was an opinion. I wont bother replying to you any more with my nauseating dribble.
Sadly, jest sometimes is misplaced. Dons of course dont hold a candle to Eagles, but I and plenty of others think they got more out of that game than Weagles.
Thoughts/advice please for F3/M6/F3 (very light on defense with daniel (D1), houston (D2) atm. Last night’s game didn’t help.
Apologies – D3/M6/F3 couldn’t edit directly.

Thoughts on how Taranto will do this year?
TU: Improve from last year
TD: Same or worse than last year
Will improve but not enough
Suggested he will get more forward time along with Cogs. Can’t see him improving by much … last year was his breakout year.

$67,900 left in the bank.
Looks great in theory.
In practice I expect a mad scramble to rejig because honestly if you can get 4 or 5 defenders from that list in round 1 you would be very very lucky indeed.
The mids are much the same.
N.McHenry is injured
J.Bytel, T.Rivers, didn’t play Marsh 1 and are so far from best 22 to be at best late season downgrades
J.Mahony spudded up.
I’m really suspecting this is not the year for G’n’R.
Great team Casta. Very solid. Makes me want to back and check my side to see where I spent all the money….M
Thanks Maximus 🙂
Anyone else keen on having Macrae, Dunkley & Bont ?
GO FOR IT!
PICK 2 OF THEM…
After the bye, whichever one I dont start is in…..all things being equal.
Morning guys. This is doing my head in. Which one to pick?
T/U – Cripps
T/D – Josh Kelly
Small price difference but I can only afford one as I am picking Macrae in my mids.
Comment – for taking both Cripps and Kelly and dropping Macrae
Cripps injury history suggests he’s the better buy. I know Kelly looks ok at present but he really has a shocking injury history, and the GWS medical staff haven’t exactly covered themselves with glory recently
This is a hard one. All I know who ever I pick the other one will star
So Petraccas stats compare favourable with dangers around the same time…
A slightly different post. Are punters worried about the lack of rookies ? Looks like Rowell and Gould only locks at this stage. I know we have the same concerns each year, but I reckon this year truly looks barren. I’ve looked at a lot of teams on here, and I dont think I am alone.
Think its progressively getting better. There have been one or two rookies from each game that if they play will be good. Not fussed by it at all
My team has migrated to more and more midpricers. It seems that the rookies look pretty thin this year.
I know we say that every year, but this year is far worse. I think probably the worst season I have faced for rookies.
None of them have really shown a lot in the first week of the Marsh series to be giving the coaches any reason to include them in round 1, except for some of the premium rookies (eg Rowell, Ash, maybe Anderson, Green), and some of the previous year’s premo rookies who are finally fit (eg Rankine).
The cheaper standouts I have spotted are Greaves, Gould, McInerney, Xerri. All could easily get games if they back up their performances, based on vacancies in their positions.
There are a couple of the premium rookies who are rested/injured this week who might still be in contention for a round 1 spot like Young.
But all in all it is slim pickings. Most of the kids I can’t even see getting a run in Marsh 2 – the performances have been THAT bad.
Seems odd to be waiting on rookies from Collingwood and Richmond, because you thin k they’d be no chance of getting games in normal circumstances. But they do have a couple of quality rookies who may potentially get a chance.
Can’t say much for their job security though.
Not at all. If there are only 8 rookies everyone will have them.
It’s all about the correct starting premiums this year. No mistakes or gambles.
If there are only 8 rookies this year at Rnd 1, and half of them are 150k +, it will ALL be mistakes and gambles.
4 x 123,900 Rookies = $495,600
4x 200,000 Rookies = $800,000
That’s 1.3 Million
You only have $8.7 Million left, or $395k per player.
Say we start of with Grundy, Macrae and Neale for Captaincy Reasons, because captains are worth double and you need options. That’s another 2 Million down, or $6.7 Million.
A deliberate $102,400 dpp donut
$364k each for your remaining players.
So what’s you’re no risk strategy there, because I can’t for the life of me see 18 no risk players with an average of $364k without taking onboard a lot of players who are doubtful to be best 22, week in week out players?
Ok, maybe I misunderstand and lets assume you meant those 8 rookies as being 8 ON THE FIELD rookies, and you run a mix of 123k and 117k rookies for the 7 bench spots (and one donut mentioned above), hoping to hell that some of them play some of the time, especially when they rest someone or there is an injury.
I sure can’t see a likelihood of 15 rookies who will play each week.
So, in other words a straight Guns and Rookies 14 premo side, but featuring a whole bunch of unlikely to play rookies, who might get 2 games here, 2 games there?
The other option is deliberately sacrifice 1/2 your bench for $102k donuts, and give up the cash generation, hoping to make extra points on emergency loopholing? Yet that probably gives you just enough cash to upgrade just one 123k rookie to a premo rookie.
From that perspective, writing off the cash generation and injury cover of 4 or 5 rookies to get one extra Rowell or Bonar or Ash or McAsey seems to make no sense, when you could run a Dawson instead of a Williams, or a Petracca instead of a Dusty and get the same short term financial outcome and better long term outcomes.
It’s too early to say there will not be enough rookies this year, but it is looking more and more likely that what is available will be pretty thin, and we’re only likely to see maybe 3 or 4 sub $150k rookies playing in any given week, with limited job security, and limited outputs (excluding maybe Rankine)
If anything it makes the game, the teams, the strategies more interesting.
Thats true tof, but if we have 14 keepers to start, same 8 rookies, there’s still 8 spots to fill. I think this year’s problem is more about the apparent lack of cheap rookies. Hibberd at bombers looks to be a non starter r1, and mahony at north needs to do plenty.
sorry was just using 8 as an example. however many rookies, they will all be shared near enough equally if there limited.
Is there some trick to editing comments..? Used to work but not anymore. just get a blank box which i can’t type into or anything
I think editing can’t happen once a post has been commented on for continuity reasons.
Some might choose to wait for say Doedee to come back from injury, rather than say a premo rookie like Ash, and run a rookie on field round 1, or pick a Hayden Young or Tom Green even if they’re not named round 1.
There’s always plenty of permutations.
Players like Hibberd might be worth starting knowing they’re not round 1 available rather than just selecting the best available rookie.
That burnt me badly last year.
Also check out comments in all-stars league. Just a notion I’ve had.
And this was Danger’s break out year.
So can we pick Bont, Macrae, and Dunkley in the same team? What are the faults with this?
Just the byes.
You basically sacrifice one week, drop 700 points or so, be pretty hard to get back your overall ranking.
Of course, if you want to aim for the thousand dollar weekly prize…
Sicily, Oliver and Petracca
Williams, tmitch, smith
My team structure is the popular:
DEF: 2 Premo + Doch + Roberton + rookies
MID: 5 Premo + Rowell + other rookies
FWD: 2 Premo + Smith & Steven + rookies
I have two questions.
What is best option?
T/U Roberton + midfield rookie
T/D Lachlan Ash (GWS) + Tom Green (GWS)
Second Question with team currently:
DEF: 2 Premo + Doch + Roberton + rookies
MID: 5 Premo + Rowell + other rookies
FWD: 2 Premo + Smith & Steven + rookies
What is best combo:
D Smith + J Steven
Petracca + top end Rookie
I didn’t vote on this, there wasn’t much point as you didn’t really name anyone. Put in some realistic rookies as well because that will influence your structure and other choices.
Second Question with team currently:
DEF: 2 Premo + Doch + Roberton + rookies
MID: 5 Premo + Rowell + other rookies
FWD: 2 Premo + Smith & Steven + rookies
What is best combo:
T/U D Smith + J Steven
T/D Petracca + top end Rookie
I voted T.D, T.D and then T.U on your three posts. Although the second Marsh game and R1 teamsheets will probably give you a better answer then I can.
Either way, your side looks solid.
I originally had Tom Green in my side but I replaced him with Rowell. I then started looking for ways to get Green back in my side but I am not sure if I am being too zealous now, especially considering that I also had Roberton in my early team for a reason. Similarly with Smith & Steven. I cannot see them not making money plus points, and with the poor crop of FWDs one of them may even be a keeper. However Petracca looks good Marsh game 31 aside – he is flying!
Hard to read whether Green will get a spot. GWS had no Kelly, Coniglio, Whitfield, Ward, Williams and Taranto yesterday.
Taranto got injured
TU Tom Green
TD Caleb Serong
Serong or Lachie Ash?
Ash has apparently already been prenamed for round 1 by his coach. Serong on the other hand is still in the middle of a bunfight.
Any suggestions? Here’s how I’m shaping up…
DEF: Sicily, Houston, Docherty, Ash, S. Hill, H. Young (Brander, Gould)
MID: Macrae, Neale, Fyfe, J. Kelly, P. Cripps, Rowell, T. Green, M. Pickett (Serong, McHenry, Close)
RUC: Grundy, Gawn (Conroy)
FWD: Whitfield, D. Martin, D. Smith, Georgiades, Rankine, Budarick (M. King, Mahony)
Looks like a team you’ll be able to run come round 1 or close to it.
What HH said. Looks very solid.
What do we think?
Not locked in but thinking along these lines… Couple of POD’s that I’m unsure about.
Lloyd, Dawson, Docherty, Hill, Bianco, Gould. IC: McLennon, Rivers
Neale, Cripps, Danger, Bontempelli, Coniglio, Steven, Rowell, Pickett. IC: Foot, Bennell, Hibberd
Grundy, Nic Naitanui. IC: Cameron
Whitfield, Dusty, T McDonald, D Smith, Rankine, M King. IC: Mosquito, Budarick
Like the TMac pick.
Are you picking Lloyd and Dawson as like ‘cover’ picks. Don’t have them on me, but did the numbers on that if you want me to stick em on here later?
From memory, you’ll be paying slightly overs but will get a high 90s from the pair. If you think that’s top 6, it’s likely a good move. Just remember you’re paying overs (Lloyd), but if Dawson plays on a wing or up the ground a bit more you could be laughing. Can’t lose, can win. May just have talked myself into it 🙁
96.75 when both playing HB or Dawson on a wing.
96.5 when Dawson playing on a wing
95.22 for the back half of the season (when both played)
91.5 when Dawson plays HF(F)
Lloyd scored 62 when tagged which has a minimal but dampening effect on these numbers. But I wouldn’t be surprised to see the likes of Lloyd, Houli and to a lesser extent Whitfield/Zilliams and/or even Sicily receiving more attention this year. Laird was also tagged a couple of times last year.
T Mac is currently my #5 forward.
Not going Gawn has advantages but is a big risk.
DEF: Sicily, Laird, Docherty, Roberton, S. Hill, H. Young (Rivers, Gould)
MID: Macrae, Neale, Dunkley, Oliver, P. Cripps, Rowell, M. Pickett, J. Mead (Bennell, McHenry, Budarick)
RUC: Grundy, Patton (Cameron)
FWD: Whitfield, D. Martin, Petraca, J. Steven, Rankine, M. King (Xerri Comben)
Haven’t had the chance to catch up on rookies so some feedback would be great.
Tom – I suggest you get Gawn in for Patton. It may mean Petracca or Steven need to go but Gawn is a definite keeper whereas there is a bit of trust required for Trac & Steven
Have to agree with Baz. If you want Patton then put him FWD and have a genuine #1 Ruck at R2. Especially given that it doesn’t seem to have strengthened your other lines too much.
Steven can become a number of cheaper options that will likely make more pts/$ to help you with that. Good luck
Seen so many teams with rivers, bianco, McLennan, young, starcevich etc. when none of these rookies are expected to play round 1.
This year seems to be ridiculously hard to find defensive rookies, is Gould the only one that we can lock in?
Young would have been a lock but for injury.
McLennan probably will play.
Just score very little.
Starcs might get a gig and Young is still a chance. And no, Mclennan won’t play, even buderick is ahead of him and GC can’t debut too many round 1. They already have Rowell and Rankine, Anderson next, then Sharp and maybe Buderick.
DEF: Laird, Houston, Docherty, Roberton, Rivers, Gould (Young, Bianco)
MID: Cripps, Dunkley, Bont, Oliver, Hannebery, D.Smith, Rowell, Pickett (Robertson, McHenry, Simpson)
RUCK: Gawn, Grundy (Conroy)
FWD: Whitfield, Dusty, Heeney, Hill, Rankine, King (Worrell, Budarick)
Side will obviously change.
Banking on Dunkley, Bont, Oliver to really establish themselves alongside the likes of Neale, Macrae and Titch.
I see some value in Hannebery and more confident in selecting him over Jack Steven for an extra 50k.
Tear me apart 🙂
Good evening guys
Is 600k too much for Whit?
Been playing around with my team and it looks a lot better without him. With him I am only left with 30k for rookie carnage come lockout, without him I have 140k.
Is this too weak of a forward line – Dusty, Tracca, J.Martin, D.Smith, S.Hill – Rookies – Geooraides, Bud, and Brander.
Am I missing any of the power rooks in the forward line?
His output and ceiling is that much bigger than the other FWD options that he’s a must have, Simon.
Even if he gets injured, which seems to have dissuaded some people, he’ll still have net you more points in that time. Say he goes down after 6 rounds having averaged 115 (a modest estimate given GWS’ soft run), you’ll still be ahead of those without him by around 100 total points.
Gone through this before: just start him. You’ll hate yourself for not having him when he throws down a casual 150.
Thanks Gumboat for the insight. Wish the real stuff would start already. I’ve changed my team around about 100 times, wish I had an extra 300k in the salary cap
Yeah, I’d just sit on your side until the Marsh Series is over. More data. Then maybe some adjustments.
DEF: Daniel, Sicily, Docherty, Roberton, Starcevich, Gould: ROOKIES
MID: Macrae, Neale, Kelly, Cripps, Oliver, Rowell, Pickett, Budarick: ROOKIES
RUC: Grawndy: ROOKIES
FWD: Whitfield, Dusty, Petracca, Hill, Cameron, Rankine: ROOKIES
Daniel can become Laird/ Houston
