  1. This week’s team… (version 37)

    DEF: Laird / Whitfield / Z.Williams / Roberton/ Collins / Hore (Wilkie / Burgess)

    MID: Cripps / Oliver / Fyfe / J.Kelly / Neale / Walsh / Constable / Bewley (Valente / Hind / Gibbons)

    RUC: Grundy / Goldstein (Sweet)

FWD: Dangerfield / Heeney / Mundy / Setterfield / Parker / Cavarra (Corbett / Balta)

    Bank: $14,000 remaining

    1. Very good team Tom, and common sense structure after some all or bust strategies such as R2 cheapie being thrown around, and for good measure as this would be the year for it.

Your RUC setup is what should be done this year as there is little risk, Goldstein looks as good as he has in years and Grundy even if drops 10 is still top 3 ruck at worst.

As with yourself my FWD has Heeney rather than Dunkley or Smith. Heeney should go to 95-100. Setterfield now shown he is a solid selection and Parker did “enough”. Mundy should be around his price, could add some.

Robertson at D4 in your DEF after he has shown he might be over injuries and can get back to his level makes your def stronger than fwd. Instead of Collins if you go Clark (GEEL) you save 44k and may had similar averages. Thats a watch til JLT and practises are done.

MIDs with 5 premo’s plus Walsh M6 does show Tom that with some thought you can go deep in MID and still have premo RUC with solid DEF|FWD. I think this is a well thought out team regardless if Robertson or Mundy aren’t other cup of tea, your cash is spread across all lines with coverage. Well done.

    2. My only concern is your forwards are too thin with Parker and Cavarra on the field but neither is any certainty for round 1.

Obviously you can change this but it might be a last minute scramble if you don’t have a plan b

      1. Thanks mate – problem is FWDs seem to be the weakest line this year IMO.

Premiums are a bit light to chose from, no stand out mid pricers (which is dangerous anyway), which leaves rookies to make up the rest.

Setterfield seems most promising but the other rookies end up being a bit of a gamble

  3. New team post JLT1:

    DEF: J. Lloyd, R. Laird, Z. Williams, B. Smith, S. Collins, J. Clark (H. Jones, M. Hore)

    MID: J. Macrae, P. Cripps, C. Oliver, J. Kelly, J. Steele, S. Walsh, Z. Butters, J. Hately (J. Caldwell, C. Constable, M. Gibbons)

    RUCK: B. Grundy, M. Gawn (J. Sweet)

    FWD: P. Dangerfield, I. Heeney, W. Setterfield, W. Drew, M. Parker, B. Cavarra (N. Balta, C. Burgess)

$52k in the bank to use on more expensive rookies if needed.

Basically I lost a premo in the forward line since there’s no clear F3 I really like, and downgraded a premo in the backline to Smith, and then used the cash to upgrade all of my rookies to selections that will likely play round 1, and to upgrade my mids to make sure I had 4 of the 6 big hitters (the hitters being Macrae, Cripps, Oliver, Fyfe, Kelly and Neale).

Let us know what you think!

    1. Like you already seem to know, that fwd line will be a nightmare. Downgrading a gawn or lloyd for fwd cash is a must imo

    2. Looks good mate. Doesn’t bother me to not have an F3 either. As long as there are enough DECENT rookies. Otherwise we’ll have to find some money to at least find someone who’ll score points AND make some cash. Worpel is the obvious one, but can think of a fair few others.
      Good luck 😉

      1. I hear you guys.

I’m more worried about the scoring potential of the forward rookies. They seem to average out to around 60ppg each in JLT1.

Even if they all keep their jobs ( 4 on field forward rookies) and average 65 thats a heap of points you need to make up on other lines to make up for it.

I’m still going Mundy at F3 and Setters at F4 and then I’m only having to back 2 other on- field forward rookies to get the job done.

        9

        0
    3. I would cover the FWD better Ben, even having a clear set of rookies across the side that lets say “will” play R1, of these 9, 2-4 will struggle in some way (lose place after couple rnds, struggle to ave above 50 etc)

If you go Goldy over Gawn there’s 140K and Oliver to M Crouch thats another 70K, 210K with little to no point loss after both ends of the change. Gawn 115-125 v Goldy 105-115 and Oliver 105-115 v Crouch 100-110, so 0-35 points (0-25, commonsense view) v 210K plus your 52K.

With that cash change Cavarra to players around that amount to spend, Worpel or Petrevski-Seton which Cavarra vs those either one makes up difference but strengthens FWD and leaves more options.

  4. Def: Laird, Whitfield, Williams, Roberton, Collins, Clark (Jones, Burgess)

Mid: Cripps, Oliver, Neale, Coniglio, M.Crouch, Walsh, Butters, Constable (Hind, Bewley, Gibbons)

    Ruck: Grundy, Goldstein (Bines)

Fwd: Danger, Heeney, Mundy, Setterfield, McAdam, Drew (Parker, Cavarra)

-I have 44k in the bank. My main dilemmas with team is at D1 between Laird and Lloyd. F3 is also troubling me as there doesn’t seem to be enough reliable forwards other than Heeney and Danger. Thought appreciated

    1. Gidday pal, there’s a couple of question marks over David Mundy, and his form and midfield time this year I’ve heard from inside sources at Freo, you should probably think to reconsider him this year. Other than that, you’re looking good.
      Regards,
      Joel.

  5. Def: Laird, Whitfield, Williams, Roberton, Collins, Scrimshaw (Clark, Hore)

Mid: Macrae, Cripps, Fyfe, Kelly, Liberatore, Walsh, Butters, Constable (Scott, Hind, Gibbons)

    Ruck: Grundy, Gawn (Sweet)

Fwd: Dangerfield, Heeney, $538k, Setterfield, Drew, Balta (Hanrahan, Parker)

Whitfield currently on chopping block which would likely force me into a cheaper F3 (currently D.Smith/Dunkley/T.Kelly)

    Pre-JLT changes;

    D4: Watson (now Roberton)
    D5: Jones (now Collins)

    M5: Merrett (now Liberatore)

    F3: $532k (still Smith/Dunkley/Kelly)

  6. DEF: Laird, Whitfield, Williams, Roberton, Collins, Scrimshaw (Clark, Hore)

MID: Cripps, Oliver, Neale, Martin, Liberatore, Cousins, Walsh, Butters (Constable, Bewley, Gibbons)

    RUC: Grundy, Goldstein (Clarke)

FWD: Danger, Smith, Heeney, Moore, Setterfield, Burgess (Balta, Parker)

    $24,600

Tossing up between Moore or downgrading him to a rookie and changing Martin to a 600k+.
I know it’s risky, but I believe it’ll payoff. Also keeping a Keen eye on Hately, Caldwell, Quaynor and other rookies in JLT 2

    1. Im not sure why your team likes are 50/50 as you have set and forget RUC with MID at 4 premo 1 mid price 1 rookie long term and Cousins and Butters. Cousins a wait and see what Hawks do with mid structure but if JLT to go by, you have the right guy. Martin should regain much of his lost ave from last yr and Cripps looks ready to become one of the dominate mids in the league.

DEF|FWD are 3 premo 1 mid price Robertson DEF and Moore FWD respectively could maintain long term keep as there JLT form and preseason has been very good, Robertson a little moor but Moore (3 contested marks) did very well for his 69% game time and looked great in Pies practise matches . Setterfield is everyone’s rookie in FWD at moment and leaves just Burgess in FWD and many rookies are wait and see.

With Collins and Scrimshaw who both did enough to stay in calculations as DEF rookies

  7. Getting closer to final team structure. The two rookies in my mids I am not confident on are Scott and Bewley. I have gone with a floating donut in my fwds and to help with captain loophole. (Freo Schultz).

DEF: Laird, Witherden, Williams, Roberton, Collins, Clark (Burgess, Hore)

MID: Cripps, Oliver, Neale, Martin, M Crouch, Gibbons, Walsh, Constable (Scott, Bewley, Hind)

    RUC: Grundy, Gawn (Clarke)

    1. Looks good, we have the exact same premo FWD set-up, can’t trust anyone outside of those 3.

I am one of the few people who don’t like the idea of Grundy/Gawn, just too much cash for me.

Could downgrade one and upgrade Roberton.

Pretty happy with defence and mids. Main dilemma is with my ruck and forwards. Gawn is super exy but I think will be clear number 2 ruck ahead of Goldy, so don’t really want Goldy either. I’m looking for a cheapy R2 option with good job security and a chance to average between 60 and 70, allow me to get one more premo forward as there’s not a lot of good rookies on this line.

Also interested to see what other people think of Papley this year. Went backwards 10 points a game last year but I think with his first full preseason and more mid time this year he’s a chance to go plus 20 this year (ie. 10 points higher than his 2017 average).

    Any feedback appreciated…

    1. For me I would get rid of either Libba or Roberton and upgrade Papley and you should aim to have at least 50k in the bank.

      1

      2
      1. Thanks Alza. Really like Roberton and Libba after JLT1. Think they’re more fallen premos than mid pricers IMO. My problem with upgrading Papley is I don’t see a really clear F3 candidate. R Gray, S Menegola and D Smith have role and injury issues, not sure how D MUNDY will hold up at 56yo and shying away from any KP forwards at this point. Most decent top 8 prospects just seem way overpriced to start. Really think that a mid-pricer as a stepping stone once a clear F3 option presents is the way to go.

        Thanks for the feedback though…

        5

        1. Personally I like D. Smith, not sure how much a bicep injury will affect him but I don’t think too much, if I was to rate them I would go:
          Smith, Menegola, Kelly, Mundy, Gray.

          2

          1
          1. We’re on the same page Alza. I’ve made the somewhat painful decision to downgrade Gawn to Goldy and upgrade Papley to Dev Smith. Still like Papley though and still have the forward rookie issues, so might try to work him in still before R1…

            1

            0
      1. Thanks Phil. I did have a version of my team with him in it but he’s at a really awkward price point. At those dollars I’d need for him to be averaging 75-80 to make a decent stepping stone and I don’t think he’s capable of that, particularly with Trengove sharing the ruck duties…

        1. I was the same and gone exactly as you did.

Lewis Pierce’s concussion doesn’t help either.

You’d almost be better off going Mummy/Bines and Lobb.

Gets you donut, cash growth from 2 players and boundless flexibility

    RUC: Grundy, Goldy (Clarke)
FWD: Danger, Heeney, Kelly, Setterfield, Drew, Parker (Young, Cavarra)

    $20k leftover for rookie adjustments.

Done away with the midpricers. Pure Guns & Rookies (Williams as a fallen premo).

Got a few expensive rookies in there, so depending on round one selections I may be able to free up a few extra bob.

Pretty confident I’ve got 2 of the Top 3 Defenders and forwards, with the third player on each line a good chance of being Top 8 in that position.

Good chance the top 3 Mids are accounted for as well. Hoping that means when it comes to upgrades throughout the season I can take the value options, rather than having to chase a must-have.

Still a little concerned about needing to sideways to Gawn later on, but there are question marks anyway so seems safer to wait and see.

Zac Clarke looks a reasonable chance to make some money across the course of the season, better prospect than any of the cheaper options.

DEF – Lloyd, Ryan, Short, Williams, B Smith, Collins (Burgess, Watson)

MID – Cripps, Fyfe, Kelly, Brayshaw, B Crouch, Walsh, Z Butters, Hately (Constable, Drew, Gibbons)

    RUC – Grundy, Goldy (Schlensog)

FWD – Danger, Heeney, Greene, Setterfield, Walker, Cavarra (Parker, Mcadam)

Going with Schlensog off the bench as a loophole as I have no intentions of trading any ruckman. Gone heavy in the backline as I believe there is too much value to pass up.

    Any feedback is appreciated, thanks!

    1. If Greene plays (and plays well) in JLT 2, I think a few will be joining you in having him a F3. Wonderful price if he gets back to his best. Suspension threat over rated in my humble. Good luck!

Taranto/walsh or proven premium/rookie still to be decided pending rookie availability round 1.

I had Taylor Adams as m-5 pod break out premium but not as confident on steel. So want a proven scorer instead. Probably cogs or crouch, but it will be at the expense of Walsh. So named rookies round 1 will make my decision for me.

    1. In regards to the byes, I’m not going to pass on a player because of the bye if I think the player will be near the top in their positions.
I’m prepared to sideways knowing I’ll have to save trades for it.

      1

      1. Tof.

I’m not sure I understand your last statement?

Are you going to use trades ( $130k each) to sideways trade R13 Premo’s to, I presume R12 bye Premos to cover your R13 Bye?

Are you then going to trade them back in? If they are, as you said, “top in their positions”?

Wouldn’t it be better to just trade them in R14?

I really don’t see how this could work unless everything else goes your way injury wise. Even then I can’t see how it could work.

Not sideways trading Premo’s unless they have LTI’s
is one of the the first rules of SC.
You always seem to have a plan for these situations.

Maybe you could help explain it for me/ us.

I really wan’t to start 6 or more R13 Bye players myself!

        3

        0
        1. No strategy. Just want my best possible starting team. As many players who end up near the top as possible. They mostly happen to be bye13. If I have to trade out and back in for the byes so be it. Time will tell if my combined picks put up enough points early on to limit the round13 damage. Plus the other byes should soften the blow a bit.

    1. I personally think going the 2 best ruckman has negatives that outweigh positives.
i think there are players in ruck position EG – Nank, Martin, Hoff that all score well and you will have more cash to upgrade another player to a premo that will make up the difference between say Gawn scoring 140 to martin scoring 115,
25 points can be made up pretty quickly from a premo player.

      Good luck!!

      1. Luke.

I understand your thinking.I just have another way to look at it.

Grundy and Gawn are both very likely to average 120+ this makes them very good captains options.

There are probably only 5 mids ( Macrea, Cripps, Oliver, Fyfe, Kelly) and Danger capable of doing this.

All these guys I would be willing to pay overs for purely on the fact that they are Captains options every week.I can’t start them all, and feel there’s better value in the Mids and Defence this year. This has help me decide to go the big two Rucks.

For me, every time you V/C ,Captain a player and use their score. You effectively slightly increase their overall average points for your side, making them better value.

Yes. Grundy and Gawn maybe a bit cheaper later.( I can’t really see them >$600k ) But as long as they stay top 2 for the year and I get to use a few of their monster Captain scores. I feel they will be worth the extra cash.

Hopefully they can both play 22 games and maybe even increase their averages with the extra space 6/6/6 seemed to provide.

I guess only time will tell.

  24. Adam.

    Pretty solid team overall.

I would be worried starting with so little cash in the bank though.

I really like the backline and wouldn’t change it unless injuries occur.

The Mids is an interesting one.
I have recently gone off Miles. He just seemed to be going through the motions JLT1. I’m not sure he will be worth the extra cash he will cost you over a rookie. Cousins is $120k cheaper and should average about the same.
Butters and Hatley are other high priced rookies that could be worth a look if you need to free up even more cash.

Greene at F3 is a real gamble.
Maybe he comes out next week and kills it?
He could just as easily get injured again and cost you an early trade.

I would feel more comfortable trading Greene and Moore for a forward rookie and a better F3.

I’m currently running with Mundy. Some folks will tell you he is too old. With all the advances in sports science ( training loads etc) I think some of the older guys can keep on keeping on. If Simo can have one of his best years in 2018 at 34 why can’t Mundy do the same thing this year.

Best of luck what ever you decide.

I’ve gone lighter in defence, purely because of how many promising rookies there seem to be back there. Would like to go one premium deeper in the forward line if the rookies in that line don’t show much in the rest of JLT.

    1. Solid bAps.

I don’t see that defence as lighter at all.

I still think Whitfield is a steal at his current price. Ignore where he played JLT. He will return to a HBF / Wing and average 110+ this season.
      The guys a fricken Jet.

Grey would need to be over his groin problems for me to start him.
F3 seems to be a problem for a lot of coaches this year.
Grey maybe as good as any of the other options who knows?

Overall a very good side. Best of luck this year.

    1. Get rid of dunkly(he could be a good pick, but odds against it) . You don’t know where he will be spending his time. Your pretty OK at round 13 so I’d add menegola. (if your not sure just look at his career stats Vs other options)
Trade libba to Walsh. Should score around the same. Use money to upgrade martin. Unlike dunkly I’m not sure who to.

These are just my opinions, completely disagree if you like.

I see Billings as an f4. Can be hard to do without effecting structure. But I’d be hesitant at f3. It could work. I just wouldn’t lock him in unless your completly sold that your happy with him there.

F3 is a big concern , I’m not confident with any of the more expensive options so I thought why not save 100K on Billings who I think can average 95. His Definitely not locked in though . I’d love to go 2 premos and 4 rookies but I’m also not confident on the rookies !

      No just NO!

Please read allsaints post ” Midpriced Madness”

It tells you all you need to know. You are taking a massive risk starting this many unproven players. SC has limited trades and you will either run out early trying to fix holes, or just give up after only scoring 1600 every week.

Go back to Guns and Rookies and throw in a few
      (2/3 at most) Midprices.

Where you choose these players should depend on where the best rookies fall round 1.

Sorry to be harsh, but this team has disaster written all over it.

All depends on which rookies play 1st round, haven’t gone any Def premo’s, I just think with the talent, that’s mid priced will be getting good scores and maybe taking points from them with the new kick in rule, could all change there is 2 JLT games each to go, which might result in a rookie for Petracca and upgrade one of the defenders.

Lets me know what you think.

    Cheers all

  35. Am going with a different formula to most players on here putting Libba at M5 instead of a premo. Is this too risky (thumbs down) or it is a structure that could pay off (thumbs up). It allows me to have what i think will be the best performed premos in McCrae, Cripps, Oliver, Laird, Lloyd, Grundy, Gawn, etc.

    Team is:

  36. Hi All,

Was wondering what you think. I feel as if I’ve finally gotten the right balance.

Laird, Whitfield, Williams, Collins, Hore, Clark (McKay, Watson)

Cripps, Fyfe, Kelly, Oliver, Neale, Walsh, Constable, Bewley (Drew, Hind, Gibbons)

    Grundy, Gawn (Sweet)

Danger, Heeney, Smith, Setterfield, Cavarra, Parker (Burgess, Balta)

Quite happy with this team. Was hoping to squeeze in Matt Crouch but the only way to do so is to get rid of Smith and upgrade a midfield rookie. This leaves Setterfield at F3 and Crouch and M6. Is this a better option or is the above team better?

    Cheers

    1. Matt.

      Looking pretty solid.

I’m not sure how much cash you have left?

Maybe a little too much spent on Midfield Premo’s. You have 5 of the top 6/ 8 there already.
Downgrading Fyfe or Kelly to a Crouch / Sloane, Steele type, may allow you to consider one of Smith / Robbo at D4 as I don’t really trust Hore / McKay / Watson onfield.

Best of luck whatever you decide.

    2. Look at Willem Drew, Matt Parker and Chris Burgess as forward rookies. Cheaper, better JS and scoring potential than Rankine and Blakey. Downgrade Hately to Gibbons – again, better JS & scoring potential – and that gets 2/3 of the cash you need to upgrade Cousins to Taranto. I reckon maybe Libba, Cousins and Worpel is one mid-pricer too many. I’d hang onto Libba, as he’s proved he can score highly on a consistent basis, look to upgrade either Cousins or Worpel. At least $180K you can generate from more cost effective and better rookies IMO.

      2

      0
        1. Yeah, pretty sold on Hately. Not so much on Rankine, but there’s so few certain forwards.

Parker, Cavarra, Drew, Burgess… none of them are guaranteed as round 1 starters, and even if they do, nor is there a guarantee they play more.

Hell, even Balta and Blakey are no certainties.

Hence I’m trying very hard not to rely on 4 rookies in the forwards.

Last year saw me burning trades to keep 18 on the field due to forward rookie issues.

Pretty happy with the Mumford option to free up some cash.
Thought about Lycett but think the Hoff is a better option.
Also thinking of swapping Macrae to Neale work in with R12 bye.
This would free up cash to swap Newman to Whitfield or Roberton to J Short / Witherden
Or do you think it’s best to stay with Williams,Newman Roberton lineup?

        1. Problem is Hoff has made his highest ever average at what 32? He can only go backwards.

But he is remarkably durable and reasonably consistent. You will probably drop $50k on him but you will easily make that on Mummy and the dpp should help you negotiate the byes nicely

Looks to me like Danger every week?

One of Grundy or Gawn is a must this year for me.

Both are sublime tap ruckman and may actually feature “MORE “in the play with the extra room 6/6/6 looks to provide.

Most importantly they are viable Captains choices every week. For this reason I’m going them both!

      1. I wouldn’t cap Sicily. VC maybe.

Cogs, Cripps, Danger all valid captains. Sheed Laird Brayshaw Heeney Goldy all possible VC options, although the question is always do they have a big enough ceiling to burn a VC on. Laird certainly does, he can punch out 130’s. Brayshaw and Sheed can too, just not as frequently.

Heeney and Goldy probably don’t go big enough often enough to justify it.

Hard to decide with Neale yet, he might be a C or VC option depending on Brisbane’s new lineup gelling.

      1. Here’s some words to go with the downvote:

You need two more mids. It lacks a strong captaincy option outside Fyfe. Youve got two very risky injury-comeback players in Brad Crouch and Libba, I’m not convinced on Viney given the other high scorers in the Melbourne engine room, and Merrett looked underdone in JLT1, so should be monitored. Rookies are fine, though it’s a fair bit of money sitting on that bench.

The backline looks solid, if maybe a little over-invested with four expensive players.

The ruck department is diabolical. You’ll concede 80 points per game compared to your opponents.

Strong start up forward, but I think Hogan will be underwhelming, Elliott is a time bomb, and Weideman is a really wierd choice for Supercoach.

All meant in the most helpful and constructive manner – there’s a bit of work to do.

    1. Not sold on Shiel, only ever averaged over 100 once and I don’t see that changing with the Bombers, plays way too outside. I’d downgrade Rankine to a cheaper rookie and then upgrade Shiel to someone like Brayshaw or Merrett.

  58. Gee I am really thinking my midfield options with guys like Coniglio,Brayshaw,Sheeds,Libba all performing exceptional I know its JLT but if there second games are just as good wow wow wow. Also liked what i saw from Brody Smith all Australian. Coniglio’s coach has said he is the hardest working player over the pre season and the fittest player in the team. Brayshaw has continued on from last year since being moved into the midfield can’t see that changing. Also Sheeds has not put a foot wrong since being moved into the midfield for Gaff. What i like is he has really has taken the opportunity by the horns and played strong in BIG games. Great start for Libba fantastic stepping stone. In the past high price mids do fall in price at some point so really looking at a new structure now. might be the edge I need this year.Gaff coming back i feel will not effect Sheeds as he has the confidence now and respect from the rest of the players and coaching staff.

  73. Starting to lean towards Greene as F4 leaving Setterfield and a rookie as F5 and F6 due to the lack of fwd rookies available to have on field.

This does mean that Libba becomes M5 but I think Libba and Greene are worth the risk over Prem Mid and a fwd rookie?

4/5/2/4 “decent scoring player” structure with rookies around them seems reasonable…

      1. My thumbs down was because I think Elliott is always going to be an injury risk and I don’t think Rankine and Rozee are value picks given their prices and what I think they will deliver.
If you were to drop Rankine and Rozee to $117-123k rookies and upgrade Elliott to someone more reliable I think you would have a very good team.

        1. cool thanks, put them in to really save cash re who is picked rd 1 to make sure that I could swap and change without swapping the main structure. re Elliott I feel that if you don’t start him and he goes well he will score and make cash and I’m happy to use a trade to downgrade(if needed) but wouldn’t use one to bring him in…if that makes sense.
          Thanks for the feedback.

    Hey coaches,
    Looking for some feedback mainly around;
Would like M Couch but would I be better bringing in T Kelly or D Smith into the forward line?
Plenty of mid rookies but looking thin with forwards.
I like the option of ruck/fwd DPP. Still weighing up Mumford as R2 or downgrading after he is back.
    Opinion on Westhoff or Lycett?

Feel the Hoff might be more consistent even though will probably be down on last year, but high chance Ryder will break a nail early in the season.

    Love to hear your thoughts

    2

    1. I’m having a similar problem Bryson, really struggling to fill my forward line. I’ve currrently got Danger and Heeney at F1 and F2 and then Setterfield and Drew at F5 and F6. I currently don’t feel comfortable playing any other forward rookies on my field, so am fiddling around with Kelly, Boak, Billings and Greene (not too thrilled about any of them). Praying a forward rookie steps up in the last few JLT games!

      1

      0
      1. Yeah it’s a hard one this year.
I had Greene initially but think he is to big of risk.
        Billings the same.
Boak maybe but probably going under 90 for year.
Feeling Kelly might be the good option

        1

        0
    2. My only issue with the Hoff and quite a few other F3’s is that they might be too old. Gray, Mundy, etc don’t usually fit the supercoach model. In saying that there are always exceptions to the rule. F3 has me baffled this year.

      1

      0
      1. I’m in the same issue with F3 F4. Mundy, Kelly, Billings, Darling, Lobb, Lycett, Greene, McDonald are all lurking there abouts. But Mundy’s age and McDonald’s injuries keep making me change my mind. It’s a nightmare.

        2

        0
    3. Starting Lycett at R2 and bringing in Mummy when he is on the bubble and shifting Lycett to a forward or doing one of those corrective trades isn’t actually too bad a plan, given Ryder is now injured and might miss early matches.

You can either ditch and underperforming forward, an injured player, or cash out a rookie this way.

But you probably wouldn’t see a lot of cash from it, given Mummy should be on the bubble in Round 4.

      1

      1
      1. Thanks guys

With all the options (limited) up forward I think I like idea of Lycett at R2
That would allow me to bring in Billings or Greene at F4 with Kelly at F3.
At round 4 bring in Mumford and move Lycett forward.
If I could get Mumford from a fwd rookie it will leave me with a pretty reasonable fwd line at round 4 with Setterfield at F6.
All based on Billings it Greene showing up

    1. Is someone just going along disliking every team list. Is it that the team isn’t any good or you just don’t know how to improve it and as such don’t actually give advice for fear of being exposed. I’m not saying my team is good hence why I put it on here to see how I can improve it! I’d just prefer to get constructive criticism than some dick who just dislikes every list

      1. I think most people don’t have time to comment on every team, a lot of teams posted on here. Tbh mate your team needs a bit of work. Defence is questionable, only 4 premo mids (which is okay if your going heavy elsewhere), and I can’t see a single premo up forward. Too many mid pricers that won’t pay off, and some of your rookies need to be changed. Put danger forward, no reason for him to be in the mids. Good luck anyway mate

        0

        0
    2. Hi mate just my opinion on your team
Backline: got a good pod in crisp, McGrath could have a good year of scoring with more mid time and Brodie Smith is a good mid price option
Mids: I’d take danger out and put him in your forward line, coniglio a good pod, I’d probably look at Bailey Scott instead of taryn Thomas but rookies depend on round 1 selection
      Rucks: good
Forwards:I’d be looking for a few more locks like danger and Heeney cause it’s pretty risky with a few of those players hoping they breakout

Not a bad team mate I’d just be looking at a few more Proven forwards in your forward line if you can

      1

    3. Are you a North Melbourne supporter? Ziebell, Wood and Thomas are bewildering picks. I can only count 7 premiums in your whole side. Way to much mid price madness. A lot of people would like to help you but this team needs a lot of work

    1. I would think it looks pretty solid, but maybe get one more defender (at a minimum, Brodie Smith at $332000) who can score, take out Fyfe (just in case he can’t play round 1) and add another rookie or cheap scoring option like Libba, Rockliff, Sheed etc.

      0

      1
    2. Murray,
Cavarra I doubt will get a game round 1 as he hasn’t played JLT. Ditto Wicks and Cottrell. Burgess and Collins are struggling. Remember your rookies structure your team. You have a strong team but you haven’t considered the rookies.
Choose from these rookies: This list changes all the time so keep an eye on JLT and coaches comments to give clues as to their order and structure your team around them. Good luck.

You may as well ask why with 2 games in 2018 Lincoln McCarthy is still priced at $247k for a 57 average, when he should in theory get the 30% discount (not 20).

Alex Fasolo is priced at $250k on 1 game @ 11 average. So he cops it even worse.

Ridley vs Garthwaite? Ridley gets 20% discount on 3 games than Garthwaite’s 2 with 30% discount, when that games cutoff used to be higher.

Docherty still being $511k after missing a whole season? Jamie Elliott at $280k?

Champion data have their own price calculation methods, which we have the basic understanding of (magic number x average). Then they adjust it to suit themselves, and to stop everybody selecting the same players when they are too cheap.

Collins is still a bargain at $188k.

Trying to understand it is fine, but it doesn’t change anything. The prices are the prices, take em or leave em is up to you.

    1. Your forward line is very weak. Heeney has his days and isn’t bad but is playing in a Sydney team which isn’t great. There’s a few people between the $450000-$500000 mark in the forwards that have had excellent pre-seasons and would be worth looking at.
Maybe downgrade one of your Prem Mids to a $400k risk and upgrade that forward line.

    Grundy and Gawn (Clarke)

Dangerfield, Boak, Robinson, Pertracca, Setterfield and Drew (Burgess and Balta)

    1. Edit: gonna swap in Rockliff for Matt Crouch (higher priced brother) and upgrade Pertracca to someone, who should I upgrade to?

  87. My 1st post JLT2 Line Up

Def: Whitfield, Mills, Williams, Collins, Scrimshaw, Clark (Duursma,Hore)

Mid: Cripps, Oliver, Dusty, M Crouch, Steele, Walsh, Butters, Constable (Gibbons, Scott, Atkins)

    Ruck: Gawn, Grundy (Bines)

Fwd: Danger, Heeney, Mundy, Billings, Setterfield, Drew (Parker, Burgess)

Feeling all the value / rookies are in def (as it was last year from memory) and precious little in the fwd line hence the 4 premo fwd line. Steele & M Crouch enormous value in the mids. Am hoping both will be top 12 at end of year.

Mundy & Billings selected as they look (for the most part) midfielders.

Defence is risky but I believe it si teh line you can take a risk on. No Lloyd or Laird but aiming / hoping to gte them later in the year for < than starting price.

    Thoughts on the different structure?

    1. Impressed. Just gotta select the right rookies, I’m sure you can do that.
I’d prefer Selwood over dusty, as dusty is spending more time forward and racking up less disposals, but billings is very risky. Up and down player, maybe have someone a bit more consistent? Pertracca is getting around 20 disposals as a forward and is going to get you a decent score each week

      1. As silly as it sounds Selwood is a safer pick to be 105-110 average, but dusty is more likely to average over 110 than Joel. Can’t blame anyone for picking dusty think he’ll play a lot more mid once lynch is in.

  88. Anyone worried about Roberton. StKilda doctor had to address the playing group to allay serious fears over Dylan Roberton. After his heart scare last year, Roberton felt ‘wonky’ post game.

  90. Ok, so rookies suck, like really suck this year. So far…
I’ve got scared of any of them doing , well anything.
The idea behind this is to prepare for the worst, no rookies to select with confidence(except a couple).
With the below team i don’t expect it to be anywhere near the same round 1, but it’s preparing for the worst. Using the players in this team i’ll wait till a promising rookie is named and downgrade the worst player in his position then upgrade the worst player over all to a premium(before round 1 lock out)Rinse and repeat(i have my list of premiums i’d like to start with, so i know who to target straight away).
But if the final team ends up anything like this at leased i’ll have best 22 guys with job security facing off against other peoples rookies.
I’ll also have grundy, gawn and danger as captain choices.

DEF. MILERA, WILLIAMS, HOULI, NEWMAN, SMITH, Clarke-Watson, hore.

MID. M. CROUCH, BRAYSHAW, TARANTO, B.CROUCH, ROCKLIFF, COUSINS, Walsh, Constable-Scott, Hind, Gibbons

    RUC. GRUNDY, GAWN-(Loophole)

FWD. DANGER, BOAK, DARLING, BILLINGS, WORPAL,Setterfield-Drew, Parker.

Thoughts on this team construction idea? Even if ran this way worst case scenario is it a disaster waiting to happen? or could it work. 18 best 22’s, 3 top captain options, my d4/5 and f4/5 facing off against other peoples rookies to lessen the blow from the lack of uber premiums.

  91. DEF – Laird, Hurn, Williams, Roberton, Collins, Scrimshaw (McKay, Hore)
MID – Cripps, Oliver, Fyfe, Martin, B. Crouch, Sheed, Walsh, Constable (Scott, Atkins, Gibbons)
    RUC – Gawn, Goldstein (Bines)
FWD – Dangerfield, Heeney, T. Kelly, Setterfield, Drew, Petruccelle (Burgess, Cavarra)

I’m waiting on Roberton after his ‘wonky’ moment today. If he’s not fine for Rd. 1, I’ll have to downgrade someone else, and get Brodie Smith to replace Roberton (Most likely Libba for Sheed)

Speaking of which, most of you might be asking, “Why do you you have Sheed at M6 and not Libba?”. Libba is obviously the more sensible player to have as my M6. Two things that came down to my current decision. One, his injury history makes me a little doubtful of whether he’ll be able to play a season without injury. Secondly, Sheed has been playing top footy since the finals series last year. I think sometimes if you want the best team in Supercoach, you gotta go different from the crowd and take some risks (although the same could be said about Libba too XD)

    That’s my thoughts anyway

Feel free to give any critique

Mid: Cripps, Neale, Coniglio, M.Crouch, Brayshaw, Walsh, Butters, Constable (Bewley, Valente, Gibbons)
Rucks: Gawn, Goldstein (Sweet) – Tempted to go with a cheaper option for Goldy and upgrade Valente for Libba.
Forwards: Danger, Smith, Heeney, Setterfield, Parker, W.Drew (Cavarra, McAdam)
