  3. This week’s edition:

    DEF: Laird / Whitfield / Z.Williams / B.Smith / Collins / Duursma (Hore/T.Watson*)

    MID: Cripps / Oliver / J.Kelly / Neale / Coniglio / Walsh / Butters / Constable (B.Scott/Atkins/Gibbons)

    RUC: Grundy/Goldy (Sweet)

    FWD: Danger / Heeney / T.Kelly / Setterfield / Drew / Petruccelle (Parker / Cavarra)

    $3,100 left in the pig.

I’ve changed F3 a million times between Dev Smith / Mundy / T.Kelly. My thoughts are that with Neale gone and a question mark over Fyfe’s fitness, would leave Mundy with not much support in the guts and potentially copping a tag. Geelong meanwhile have so much midfield depth that Selwood / Danger / Ablett more likely to cop tags which frees up Kelly.

*T.Watson picked as a loophole because basically no defenders priced at $102k that are likely to play Rd 1.

Also light on for Fwd rookie prospects.. could
swap Petruccelle for Burgess and be able to swing Burgess between Defensive and Fwd cover?

Other than that – getting close to finalising now – feedback appreciated.

    1. Eerily similar to my squad, struggling with that F3 spot now as well. Greene is sitting there right now but will likely end up as dev smith or dunkley

      2

      1. You’ve just tempted me massively… Greene’s career stats indicate that if he is on the park he’s likely to average 90 plus… and frees up a lot of cash elsewhere.

Basically, downgrading T.Kelly to Greene at F3 frees up a further $150k so a number of options:
        1. Goldy up to Gawn
        2. Coniglio to Macrae
        3. Whitfield to Lloyd and Coniglio to Fyfe

or a combination of above options…

        Thoughts community?

    1. I like this team a lot. I think Dunkley’s ceiling is higher and if goes bang early he may be hard to get in. if boak plays pure mid and averages 100 once wines is back he is still easy to get in.

  5. Ok so currently have just under 500K in the bank. Looking to maybe upgrade one rookie to maybe a premium fwd but really struggling with who to put in my side. Most premiums are pretty locked at this point, rookies subject to change of course

    1. Murray, how much cash do you have left?

      What about:
      T.Kelly down to Toby Greene

      Frees up $150k

Then you could swing Drew into the forward line to replace Cottrell.

And upgrade Cottrell to Walsh, with a bit of coin still in the pocket?

      5

      1
      1. Tom, virtually no cash left, not a bad suggestion. What about this idea: Goldstein to witts and Clark done to a 117k defender which would free up 95k. Then get rid of Parker, move drew into forwards and I would have 212k to get Walsh

        0

        8
        1. Ultimately your decision Murray but I don’t trust anyone who plays for GC to give you a reliable and consistent output… Goldy IMO is far more reliable.

Mick put me up to this Toby Greene thing and now I’m very much trying to find logic to talk me out of it…

          Toby’s career SC stats:
          Season Matches Avg
          2018 7 72.6
          2017 16 96.1
          2016 21 90.4
          2015 22 82.8
          2014 15 102.9
          2013 19 73.2
          2012 19 94.6

Take out 2 of Toby’s injury affected games last year and his avg goes up to 89…

          So bloody tempting.

          1

          3
          1. Interesting Tom, is he injured though. He only had 39pt though it was from 32min only. Do you think he is playing it low key in the buildup to R1

            0

            1
            1. GWS seem pretty certain he is good and ready to go. I think of it like this, if he does well you are getting a premium fwd at 150k less than normal, where as if he is hurt or inconsistent his price is still high enough as a stepping stone to whoever you want, and by that time a more certain forward should be shaping up

              1

              1
                1. Murray your tesm is almost identical to one of my two versions. I have swapped Setterfield and Drew to avoid two PA mids. I’ve had Greene in the past and am not going there. Kelly and Dunkley imo will easily outscore him. One of my teams has Walsh and the only way I could achieve that was to replace Goldy with Lycett. I do notice however that this team has been changed (not for the better imo) on another site.

            2. Must be fit enough to play JLT2 otherwise they wouldn’t risk him…
Obviously a plan to manage him back into the real stuff.

39 pts from one quarter of footy is pretty decent?

  12. Ok, so rookies suck, like really suck this year. So far…
I’ve got scared of any of them doing , well anything.
The idea behind this is to prepare for the worst, no rookies to select with confidence(except a couple).
With the below team i don’t expect it to be anywhere near the same round 1, but it’s preparing for the worst. Using the players in this team i’ll wait till a promising rookie is named and downgrade the worst player in his position then upgrade the worst player over all to a premium(before round 1 lock out)Rinse and repeat(i have my list of premiums i’d like to start with, so i know who to target straight away).
But if the final team ends up anything like this at leased i’ll have best 22 guys with job security facing off against other peoples rookies.
I’ll also have grundy, gawn and danger as captain choices.

DEF. MILERA, WILLIAMS, HOULI, NEWMAN, SMITH, Clarke-Watson, hore.

MID. M. CROUCH, BRAYSHAW, TARANTO, B.CROUCH, ROCKLIFF, COUSINS, Walsh, Constable-Scott, Hind, Gibbons

    RUC. GRUNDY, GAWN-(Loophole)

FWD. DANGER, BOAK, DARLING, BILLINGS, WORPAL,Setterfield-Drew, Parker.

Thoughts on this team construction idea? Even if ran this way worst case scenario is it a disaster waiting to happen? or could it work. 18 best 22’s, 3 top captain options, my d4/5 and f4/5 facing off against other peoples rookies to lessen the blow from the lack of uber premiums.

Re posted this, want to hear how crazy or not this is

    1. Oh damn, TOF. That is a POD team right there. Interesting. I like some of the picks; eg. Darling, Brayshaw. Problem is the inconsistency of your top end players, possible that they all have a poor week and then you’re cooked.

      1

      0
      1. Lol, I know but after jlt I had to get it out of my system. Going guns and rookies.
You see all these players doing great things and think there a great pick. But so I don’t think it’s a great idea to put mid pricers into my team on the cusp of round 1 I’ve put most of them here. And looking at the above team really makes me appreciate my guns and rookies side.

        0

        0
          1. No, going Boak and Billings at f3/4. If they end up f5-7 I’m fine with that. But they allow me to run macrae, cripps, Gawn and Grundy.

            0

            4
    2. Any points you gain with a mid-pricer over a rookie comparatively you’ll lose easily by not having any of the big mids. Macrae, Cripps, Fyfe, Oliver. Got to have 1 probably 2, some will have 3 but I think 2 is the sweet spot.

      0

      0
      1. Yeah, I know lol. Just wanted to gauge what people though of mid pricers this year in particular. Starting macrae, cripps, cogs and m crouch. Rookie availability will determine a 5th mid for me.

  13. The bargain rookie basement floor is currently lost in space. Therefore I have changed my side 1000’s of times and now yes we have to pay a higher ceiling for rookies making it essential we get the midpricers correct.

    Side currently is:
Def: Lloyd, Hurn, Williams, Smith, Clark, Duursma (Joyce, Hore)
C: McCrae, Cripps, Oliver, Martin, Crouch B, Walsh, Butters, Constable (Scott, Gibbon, Atkins)
    R; Grundy, Gawn
F: Danger, Heeney, Darling, Blakey, Settlefield, Drew (Petrucelle, Parker)

I need the season to begin so i can stop changing my side and get a life back.

    7

  14. Considering the forward rookies suck, I want Setterfield at D5. Thus, I’ve gone…

Laird, LLoyd, Williams, Collins, Clark, Hore (Duurasma, McKay)

Cripps, Oliver, Cogs, M Crouch, Walsh, Butters, Constable, Drew (Bewley, Hind, Gibbons)

    Grundy, Gawn (Sweet)

Danger, Heeney, Dunkley, Kelly, Setterfield, Cavarra (Parker, Burgess)

    100k in the bank.

If more forward rookies line up in RD 1 then I will omit Kelly and get a 620k premo mid. As it is I’m very tempted now. Is this structure beneficial as it allows the avoidance of low scoring rookies, or is the tradition 3-5-2-3 still a winning formula…

  16. Are there enough FWD rookies to merit only starting two FWD premos? Would allow me to start Macrae, Cripps, Oliver, Kelly, Crouch and Steele in the midfield, with just Danger and Heeney up forward.

    2

    7
    1. Wouldn’t have thought so.

      Setterfield – lock, forward/midfield role
      Drew – lock, forward/midfield role

Parker – probable lock, but scoring ceiling seems limited
Rozee – probable lock, scoring ceiling seems limited and has the double whammy of being high priced

Burgess – will get games but don’t want him on field (50 av ceiling)
Balta – likely to get games, don’t want him on field (50 av ceiling)
Petrucelle – likely to get games, don’t want him on field (50 av ceiling)

Cavarra, McAdam, Mosquito – JLT form ??

      Rankine, Corbett injured.

Basically to take 6 forward rookies would force you to play Parker (61, 36) and Rozee (41, 44 in JLT, high priced), with two talls as F7 and F8 (Balta, Burgess)

Thinking that a couple of mids (Brayshaw, Crouch, Yeo) will be able to hang with the big boys scoring-wise. Or is it too risky to include all three?
Not set on defence but I’ve got faith in Laird/Smith but have the capacity to swap Whitfield for Laird. Roberton might have ?? if his heart condition continues and Williams can be swapped so that I’m Gun/Rookie instead of Williams/Roberton.

DEF: Lloyd, Witherden, Mills, Newman, B. Smith, J. Clark (Duursma, Hore)

    My thoughts:

    – Who to captain? Danger or Cripps?

    – Hopefully Cousins gets some good points and good increase in cash before Wingard comes into the side

    – Billings is looking pretty good this year and I pray he doesn’t do what he did last season

    – F5 is a tricky spot to fill but hopefully Rankine can be a cash-cow and get some value so I can use him for a potential upgrade
    ————————————————————-

    Please tell me what you guys think of my team;

I am pretty happy with my team atm and hopefully I can taste some success this season 🙂

    1. Mills is a risk…position this season very unclear. If he spends more time in the mids, that’s less ball…he’s an outside mid at best.

      Love the O’meara pick…good POD.

Rankine unlikely to play R1 through injury.

Consider down trading either B.Crouch or Libba to upgrade one or the other

    1. I like the Aliir pick. If he plays a decent grab of games in the first 6 games….possible cash cow. Too many mid-priced mids. Shiel, B. Crouch and Libba…….could pay off, could pay nothing. Trade out 1 for a another rookie and upgrade 1.

Greene is the only player i’m not too sure about, he could easily average 90 but also could get injured and average 65, i can’t free up enough cash to get another premium forward though, so i currently have to snag him at that cheap price.

    1. Solid selections, good structure and hard to fault any premium selections.

If you want to alleviate the concerns regarding fielding 3 forward rookies then an option could be
      Out: J Macrae, B Grundy/ M Gawn, J Petrucelle/ C Burgess
      In: R Sloane, T Goldstein, J Darling

      or
      Out: J Macrae, B Grundy/ M Gawn, J Petrucelle/ C Burgess

  40. This team is widely different to my usual cooker cutter setup but I still need some help with the Rucks

Defs- Whitfield, Williams, Roberton, Scrimshaw, Hore, Duursma (Burgess, Watson)

Mids- Macrae, Cripps, Oliver, Neale, Coniglio, Liberatore, Walsh, Constable (Butters, Gibbons, Bewley)

    Rucks- Grundy, Gawn (Sweet)

FWDS- Dangerfield, Heeney, Boak, Lincoln McCarthy
    Setterfield, Petrucelle (Drew, Parker)

I like this team, any feed back would be greatly appreciated especiially on the rucks, I am content with having one of Grawndy and Goldstein but I don’t know who to downgrade and I would also love some thoughts on the defence

    Rucks- Grundy, Gawn (Sweet)

FWDS- Dangerfield, Heeney, Boak, Lincoln McCarthy, Setterfield, Petruccelle (Drew, Parker)

    Gone weaker in defence
I was able to get Grawndy but I am still unsure as to if they are worth it, downgrading one to Goldstein I am perfectly fine with but I have no clue as to who.

      1. Roberton went down feeling “wonky” after the game. Might want to look at an alternative.

Boak might be a good POD as Hinkley has hinted at more mid time, but Mcarthy worries me! Other than that looks great

Leaves just $6,400 in the bank, but think it’s pretty well balanced (especially with Westhoff as back-up if one of G-G miss a week or two in the ruck). Have gone with so many different combos (including one that had Martin as M6 and Sheed as M7!).

  42. Here’s the latest incarnation, probably settled on structure, just down to rooks that are named in Rd 1; but of course all critiques are welcome …

Def: Laird, Mills, Williams, Smith, Scrimshaw, Duursma (Burgess, Wilkie)
Mid: Cripps, Oliver, Martin, MCrouch, Brayshaw, BCrouch, Cousins, Constable (Scott, Atkins, Gibbons)
    Ruck: Grundy, Goldy (Clarke)

Only a few premium’s I’m not sure about, Laird vs Crisp? Also Oliver vs Treloar.

I’d love to have 1 or 2 more blokes I reckon will be top 6 in my Def, but there’s just too much value in mid-price up back this year IMO.

    Anyway, all thoughts welcome.

Any thoughts appreciated. I’m torn if I should go with Brayshaw and Sloane or upgrade one to ultra premium. I have floated having T. Greene at F3 but with slim pickings to the naked eye on rookies in that part of the ground if he goes down (or gets suspended) it leaves me in strife. I’m pretty confident that the three defender premiums will be the top 3-4 no probably pending fitness so just want to lock them in. I really liked Joyce game for saints on the weekend and struggled with that last rookie spot in the backline until then. With Brown and Carlisle our he could be a good option initially for us. Rucks picked themselves I think the biggest regret anyone who doesn’t start Gawn and Grundy will hurt you big time. Lachie Neale quite possible the most underrated Supercoach and player in general. Ticks every box, doesn’t miss games, ultra consistent, wins contested ball, tackles. He scored 16 tons last year after a slowish start with scores in high 90’s and 80’s. 13/16 tons were over 110. One of the few players in the competition that was averaged over 110 for three consecutive years and played every game (missed one). I think Sloane looks fitter and hungry again like the whole Adelaide team I think there will be less tagging in general this season purely because of the openness we’re already starting to see. If crouch brother form and fitness stays out I think Sloane can avoid the tag all together. One of few players in the competition who has the ability to have those 160+ games and at $526k to hard to refuse. Brayshaw like most I earmarked him after his 7-8 game stretch to finish the season has a game built for Supercoach scoring and seems to be making his way to goal as well (Same sample size of JLT but still) I don’t think Oliver is getting any worse either, maybe better if anything but I think this guy will rise with him and just kicks it that bit more than Clayton and I’d like to bank the $100k difference there. I’m an Essendon supporter having watched Smith both ore season games I think he was heavily managed but he clearly still has that pressure mentality. Will break records in tackles again this year I’d also expect him to maybe hit the score board a bit more in games this season as well.

Let me know what you think guys. I just want to thank all the admins on this page and the supporters who use it. Very rarely is there a bad word spoken. Everyone has there opinion and we all have a common interest we love footy and everything that comes with it. Good luck to all the players this year and I hope everyone is excited for Thursday week as I am. Cheers

Very very scratch team, just want to get some feedback. Greene and Roberton subject to fitness and still need a loophole option given everyone plays. O’Meara is a very unique option but I believe is on for an absolute breakout season due to absence of Titch.

    1. I like some of your picks they’re ballsy and could come off. Jack Crisp is an interesting one. Very durable not a massive ceiling but he is one you can probably lock into a 95+ average and will play every game. They are important. I wouldnt IMO go for Hurn and Crisp. I seen a few get sucked into Hurn and I just think if you look at his Supercoach body of work over the years there’s no trending up I think there’s better picks at that price I think you’ll regret not going without a Lloyd, Laird or Whitfield. Upgrade one of those guys to one of those three and I think your balance in the backline is fine. I think Roberton is a steal at that price but expect him to miss some game or prepare for the worst of something again does happen with his condition. Saints won’t take any chances there but at D4 it’s less of a risk than having Greene at F3 that’s scares the hell out of me, I don’t mind the pick I’ve considered strongly myself but with limited forward rookies expected to score well or even be named round one I be to scared on being that skinny in the forward line. Green at F4 would be perfect if you could afford it. Midfield looks fine again ballsy picks with O’Meara and Taranto. I think you open yourself up to much to take a risk on both. Pick one and go with it I think your midfield bats plenty deep without one of them considering we all have Danger at F1 I don’t think it’s essential to have that many premiums 4-5 osnthe number. Maybe ditch Tarranto and use that money to upgrade one of your forward to Smith or Dunkley if you want to keep Greene. Rucks are fine I hope you don’t regret going without Gawn but my gut says you will. Good luck buddy it all depends on how ballsy you want to be or if you want a bit of a safety net.

      1. Being negative with no input whatsoever helps no one. He isn’t that far off in my opinion and he is going with his gut which could make the rest of us who think we know what to look for look very silly. The winner from last years side early doors was very different also.

    1. I think your team looks fine mate. I’d be a slightly bit concerned with playing both Smith and Roberton. While I think they are both great value I think you can get a bit stuck if they average 80 and make you a bit of money you’re going to be stuck with wanting to upgrade or possibly keep you want to be clear with your intentions I think. I don’t think either are keepers (Top 10-12 defenders). Slight concern over Roberton’s Fitness as well. Saints won’t take risk with the guys health he could miss games that leave you playing another rookie. I’d reconsider a few of your rookies. Bewly doesn’t look like he will feature to much early in Ross Lyons plans and hasn’t set the world alite in his JLT chances. Maybe consider a Bailey Scott from North who has been ultra impressive and is almost a lock round one according to the coach. Also Cavarra and Burgess haven’t featured much or at all for respective teams. Some to consider would be the WC palr Brander and Petrecculle pending selection. Also maybe a Noah Balta could be a chance. I also think you maybe bat one to deep in the midfield. I don’t mind the Crouch pick but in my research he has to have 33+ to get a good score and while he does that often I don’t think you want to rely on him to have near 40 touches every week cause the way he plays (handballs a lot) those stats translate to 120-130 where there’s players a similar price that can have it 25 times but the rest of what they do can pump out 150 plus scores. His teammate Sloane could be on to consider. Maybe drop Libba to a mid rookie there’s plenty to choose from Atkins or Scott maybe then use that money to upgrade a Smith to Laird and I think you’re looking solid for round one

Really would like to upgrade Hind to Butters as mid rookie but the only way to do that at this stage cash-wise would be to downgrade Collins to a Scrimshaw or other defence rookie for the cash. All depends on selections I spose!

    Cheers all!

    1. An option could be M Bontempelli to R Sloane thus allowing N Hind to be traded to Z Butters as well as possibly dropping J Macrae and one of B Grundy/M Gawn to L Neale and T Goldstein which would allow you to reduce a on-field forward rookie by replacing them with T Greene.

So, I have taken the approach suggested elsewhere on here, loading up with the rookies (and a few rookie mid types like Libba) that I think/hope will at least get to r3, then filling in with premos that cash allows.

  63. Def – Laird, Hurn, Williams, Smith, Clark, Duursma (Burgess, Hore)

Mid – Cripps, Oliver, Fyfe, M. Crouch, Libba, Walsh, Butters, Constable (Scott, Atkins, Gibbons)

Fwd – Danger, Heeney, Kelly, Green, Setterfield, Drew (Parker, Petruccelle)

    Thoughts
Macrea – Disappointed I can’t fit him in at this point. He has a great JLT and was only cruising.
Collins – Is he a must have?? Will play every game.
Whitfield – I think he will be better then Hurn in the long run, but just didn’t have the cash to fit him in.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  67. Who will make the boldest move? Will Fyfe hit new heights with Neale now gone and Cripps’ average go down a little with Walsh in hot form? Yes Fyfe’s elbow is sore but remember Fyfe is Life (at 23% ownership)

  68. Hi guys, first time poster, long time watcher!! Interested to hear thoughts. Just posting my likely field players as rookies will shuffle when teams are named.

Sicily, Crisp, Williams, Smith, Scrimshaw, Duursma

Cripps, Oliver, Coniglio, M Crouch, Jaeger, Walsh, Butters, Constable

    Gawn, Goldy

Danger, Heeney, Darling, T Greene, Setterfield, Drew

Greene is a 50/50 for me at this stage. I like the look of my team with him in, but he is def a liability.

  69. Alright I’ve made a promise to myself not to change this team for 1 whole week.
I am very happy with the structure although i think some people might disagree with it. Please tell me what you think.

Def: Whitfield, Mills, Z. Williams, B. Smith, J. Clark, Duursma (Burgess, Hore)

    $4.3k in the bank.

I’ve had at least one of Lloyd/Laird in my team all pre-season, but Mills is going to play a lot of midfield, and looked good in JLT. I think he’s a safer option than spending an extra 170k on Lloyd who didn’t score well in JLT 1 and didn’t play JLT 2. I’m hurting not having Laird, but with Smith and Milera set to have big seasons I think Laird will average a couple points less than last year (perfect upgrade target). Smith and Williams are locks, and I’m happy with Clark and Duursma on my field. I’ve tried to go big in the midfield, because they are the only premiums almost certain to get 110 each week (besides Danger). Also really liking the look of Darcy Moore and like that he is DPP and can swap with Burgess if I need.

    4

    1
    1. Brodie Smith is far from a lock. People are expecting way to much of him. Don’t get sucked in. He will average 80-85 I can’t see him making a shit load of money to justify not using that extra cash elsewhere to have a genuine premium.

      1

      0
      1. Thanks for your feedback. 85 is 25 points above his breakeven price which to me is a pretty good option. Especially seeing as i’m very confident he averages 85 with the crows playing their rebounding game and always looking to get the ball in his hands because of his elite kick. I’m not reading too much into the kick ins but he does takes most of them and when he does he runs out of the square and boots it 60 metres almost every time. I think this will help his previous averages by 5-10. Priced at 60 points and helping me avoid playing 3 defender rookies on the field is essential for me, but can you see anywhere else where i could get some cash to upgrade him to a premium? 250k is a lot of money 🙁

        2

        1
        1. Zac Williams is only $90k more. He definitely could average 95+. Smith might be priced to average 60 but his breakeven will go up quickly unless he score well straight off the bat only takes one bad score in those first three weeks and he has made you no money and you already want to trade him he isn’t going to make more than $100k in my opinion. Whether you think that’s worth it or not. He stops you playing a rookie but I can see Scrimshaw or Clark averaging 70-75 will make you $100k a lot quicker at less risk than what Smith will. Each to there own I just don’t see what evidence suggests Smith will average anything spectacular he kicks it long but isn’t very effective by foot. For the record his last full season 2017 he averaged 70 from first 11 games of the season u til the crows bye just food for thought but if you think he has another level to go go for it.

          0
          1. I completely see where you’re coming from Trav. The thing is that he fits perfectly into my team. My structure/game plan is to go big in the midfield, and i can’t bring myself to downgrade any of my midfield premiums. So the only other option is to downgrade Smith to Scrimshaw and upgrade Moore to Greene, which i don’t think is a beneficial move.
An average of 85 from 330k is good enough for me (basically the same as what i think Libba will do), and Brodie did average 93.5 in 2014, he’s now 27, fully recovered from his ACL 2 years ago, Crows are getting back to their best and the new kick in rule will help him.
            Appreciate the discussion though!

Happy with mid and ruck, although quite pricey. Seems like finding value with the def and fwd lines is the way to go this year. Quietly confident Milera will break out, and hoping Greene and Moore stay fit. Not super confident on Whitfield, but then again, I feel the same way about all the top priced defenders this year.

    1. Too many questionable picks for me:
      Dusty will be a MID/FWD IN 2020
BCrouch, Boak and Billings all too risky for me. Think you can afford to WATCH Boak and Billings and pick them up at a similar price later. Wines, Hannebery and hopefully Steven will likely negatively effect their roles at some point. BCrouch’s injury history is too big for me, though the upside is potentially huge.
      Good luck!

Pretty much G&R strategy apart from Smith and Libba. Will see how these two go to see if they become keepers or as a stepping stone to a premo. The rest of the team are all premo and rookies. Hopefully wont need to make too many trades for the first half of the season. 2K left in the kitty. Let me know what you all think of the team please

    1. Hi Chris
I would go Neale, Crouch and Heeney
I think your def is too light on in premos, and not sure about Hurn, I would go Crisp. Think about another premo in Def also

I would move heeney into the fwd line, move Drew into the mids and make the team better balanced

    1. You might be and you’re not leaving yourself much room for upgrades in the MIDs. While Kelly, Cogs, Yeo, Brayshaw and Steele might not all be top8, you might want to leave yourself room/flexibility for upgrade options, especially as there are enough rookies looking good for Rd1.
I get the Lycett/Bines loop option but think you’d be better reversing them, get rid of Fort and a premo mid and get yourself a decent RUC if you have the cash. You’ve then got cover should one go down.

I was thinking about the fact that I have Libba and Miles on, probably one too many.
I know I’m going to sound unpopular, but wouldn’t be safer to drop Liberatore for a rookie and get cash from that? Or we are all very confident he’s gonna make some serious scores/cash?

While I don’t disagree that 4 FWD rookies is probably the maximum you want, I think you can probably pick one more in DEF and MID lines affording you enough cash to get premos that are already proven (and can go better in 2019).

But it’s your team and your call. Good luck 😉

    1. A lot of mid price risk not sure you have enough star power there to justify going without Grundy AND Gawn. Risky or silly not sure. Not sure Beams is the Supercoach stud he once was anymore. Brad Crouch is a risk he is so injury prone and fit and firing I think he only averages 90-95 max. There’s others around cheaper and slightly more that could average that or more. I don’t think it’s smart or necessary to bat that deep in the midfield there’s going to be 3-4 mids that pop up unexpectedly and average above 100 that you’ll want to upgrade to. You restrict your upgrade options by being so deep in the midfield. It’s a strong rookie contingent in the midfield.

This team is risky but rewardy. It’s supposed to be different. Win in certain areas, and not loose by so much in others.
I think the moore-burges swing will be crucial for some reason.
Rocky can go up or down to another player pretty easily, so i’m taking the risk with his price.

  94. Just wondering how people are looking in regards the SC Gold projected scores? I’m sitting on 1766, but have seen some around 1850. Anyone put much stock into this???

  96. Any help greatly appreciated. Still struggling to work out the best structure, changing it daily! I think in the end the rookies will decide the structure for me come round 1.

Def: Lloyd, Whitfield, Smith, Collins, Scrimshaw, Clarke

Mid: Cripps, Fyfe, Neale, Cogs, M.Crouch, Libba, Walsh, Constable

  97. Roughly my set up for the Marathon/Carnage that is Supercoach.
Many thanks to all the contributors on this site that have helped me arrived at my side.

DEF-Lloyd, Sicily, ZWilliams, Smith, Duursma, Hore, ( Burgess, Tohill)

MIDS- Macrae, Cripps, Oliver, Fyfe, Liberatore, Walsh, Gibbons, B.Scott (Hind, Atkins, Watson)

    RUCK- Grundy, Gawn (Hunter)

FWD-Dangerfield, Heeney, Mundy, Moore, Setterfield, Drew, (Petruccelle, Parker)

I still have doubts with a few players named,
Backline: could change Sicily for Hurn/Whitfield but overall happy enough

Mid: again seems solid but due to lack of For/Def can always downgrade to bolster other lines

Ruck: happy to pay for the best Rucks and set and forget

FWD: not sure what to do with f3-f4 gor Mundy/Moore but really unsure about Moore

Rookies: bloody nightmare bar the couple that most coach’s have.

  98. I think my team is just about set now. Thoughts again please:

    D Laird/ Whitfield/ Williams/ Smith/ Scrimshaw/ Clark (Hore,/ T Watson)

    M Cripps/ Oliver/ Martin/ M Crouch/ B Crouch/ Butters/ Duursma/ Constable (Scott/ Atkins/ Gibbons)

    R Grundy/ Gawn (Sweet)

    F Dangerfield/ Heeney/ T Kelly/ T Greene/ Setterfield/ Drew ( Petruccelle Parker)

Pretty much G&R strategy apart from Smith Greene and B Crouch. Will see how these three go to see if they become keepers or as a stepping stone to a premo. The rest of the team are all premo and rookies.

Hopefully wont need to make too many trades for the first half of the season. 4K left in the kitty.

Let me know what you all think of the team please

    1. I actually seriously rate this team.
Only real question mark on Greene and maybe how well tim kelly plays, but considering the lack of fwd premos id say hes one of the safer options

Good Luck in the season 🙂

    1. M Crouch tends to have 35 – 40 touches to score his 100 to 120, whereas others can have 25 touches and score the same, because they don’t handball as much.
I’m going with Sloane because he will not be tagged as much with the new rules, he’s really fit and that will free him up to score big on occasions – just an opinion though, all the best with your choice.

It’s a well-known fact that most of the rookies are rubbish this year, especially the non-midfield ones. In the spirit of trying to get all the good cows and none of the dodgy ones, I have structured my team accordingly. I was planning to cut the midfield right back to as few as two premiums, completely stacking the other lines, but soon discovered that although there were more and better cows in the midfield than there were in other positions, there probably weren’t enough good ones for me to go all the way with that plan. The only way to achieve that would have been to steal the good dual-position cows from other lines, thus forcing me to select comparatively dodgy ones in their place, the avoidance of which was the object of this exercise to begin with.

So, a couple fewer rookie mids than first hoped. But the cows on other lines were still rubbish. I couldn’t afford to completely stack every other line if I was going to be selecting four premium mids instead of only two. Not unless I wanted to start some highly suspect mid-pricers, many of whom would have likely backfired. I found four backline rookies I was happy with, and three in the forward line. That left me with 9 spots to fill across those two lines, and not enough cash to do it.

Enter the rucks. I suspect a lot of you are going to hate this part of my team, but hear me out. If Mumford hadn’t got himself suspended for two matches, he’d be in a lot more teams. Even with the suspension, I’ve long felt that at his price he offers such good value that if it’s possible to cover him for the first two weeks, he’s worth starting. The money I have saved by taking him over a Gawn or Grundy type has done wonders for the rest of my team. Now all I have to do is cover him… I’m not completely in love with the Lycett selection, but at his price I like him better than Westhoff, and a LOT better than all the other RUC/FWDs on offer. If a viable playing R3 option emerges between now and next Thursday, I’ll definitely look at him, but for now, Lycett is here to stay. Even if I wasn’t starting Mumford, I’d still want ruck cover – do you really want to spend up to 14 percent of your starting cap on Grawndy, only to have to cop a doughnut or trade one of them out if they miss a week? I wouldn’t. In the role he’ll be playing at Port, Lycett should be good for an 80 to 85 average, which isn’t quite premium, but is serviceable enough for the time being. He fills a spot in that line, thus reducing my need for forward rookies, and with four other keepers there, it shouldn’t be too long before he gets pushed on to the bench, anyway.

Obviously, the round 14 bye situation in my backline isn’t great, but there’s not a lot I can do about that – most of the best options share that bye. I’m also a little heavy on round 13 bye players in the forward line, but they’re all dual-position, so that’s much less of an issue.

Let me know what you think.

    1. Of course I’ve only just now remembered that Jordan Clark is a thing. I guess that makes five backline rookies I like. This could potentially free up Duursma to go into the middle, which is good, because I’m not 100 % sold on Hately at his price. Or I suppose I could start an extra midfield premium. Or beef up the rucks. Not to worry, I don’t need to make my mind up right now… having options is good.
