  1. Lloyd. Crisp. Z Williams. Ridley. Collins. J Clark (Hore. Butts)

Cripps. Oliver. Coniglio. M Crouch. A Brayshaw (Melb). Walsh. Constable. B Scott. (Hind. Atkins. Gibbons)

    Grundy, Gawn (Sweet)

    11k left… looking @ Crisp Or Hurn for d2

    Is bench too weak…?

    1. Id find the money for someone like Burgess at D6 rather than a defensive loophole as well as a ruck loophole but other than that good team!

  2. DEF: Laird, Whitfield, Williams, Collins, Clark, Duursma (Burgess, Hore)

MID: Cripps, Oliver, Neale, Coniglio, MCrouch, Walsh, Butters, Constable (Bailey, Aktins, Gibbons)

    RUCK: Grundy, Gawn (Clarke)

FWD: Dangerfield, Heeney, Boak, Setterfield, Drew, Parker (Balta, Petruccelle)

Just quietly liking Boak, his durability and return to the midfield should see him a top 6 FWD in my opinion. Only in 2% of teams.

    73k in the bank.

    1. well apart from Balta your team is exactly the same as mine…thought I had a great F3 POD in Boak – info from inside the club is he will most definitely play more mid than 2018

  3. Defenders:
Whitfield, Hurn, Williams, Collins, Clark, Duursma, (Hore, Burgess)

    Midfielders:
Cripps, Oliver, Neale, Coniglio, Crouch, Walsh, Butters, Constable, (Scott, Atkins, Gibbons)

    Ruck:
    Grundy, Gawn, (Sweet)

    Forward:
Danger, Heeney, Mundy/Kelly, Moore, Setterfield, Drew (Parker, Petrucelle)

    – 20k in the bank
    – Currently tossing up between if i should downgrade Mundy to Greene and downgrade Neale to Merret to then upgrade Duursma to B.Smith
    – Also dont know whether to go with Tim Kelly or stick with Mundy. I like Kelly but having all forwards with the same bye concerns me.

    1. Wouldn’t worry about the bye too much just now. You may be able to flick Drew onto your MID bench through early trades and can then swing one of them into your MIDs for that bye.
A lot can/will happen between now and then.
      Looks good. Good luck 😉

  6. Hey Guys,
Think I am very close, and would love to hear your thoughts!

DEF: Loyd, Whitfield, Williams, Smith, Collins, Scrimshaw (Clark, Hore)

MID: Macrae, Cripps, Kelly, Coniglio, Steele, Walsh, Constable, Scott (Atkins, Hind, Gibbons)

    RUC: Grundy, Lycett (Sweet)

FWD: Danger, Heeney, Dunkley, Setterfield, Drew, Parker (Petruccele, Cavarra)

Not sold on my second ruck or forward rookies, but not sure who to get rid of to free up some cash – any thoughts would be much appreciated!

      1. I get the Lycett pick, but there may be better options if you do turn Kelly into say a MCrouch. Kelly’s likely underdone and doesn’t tend to score so well against top teams and GWS’ early fixture isn’t the easiest. Get him cheaper later before he goes boOom!
        Good luck 😉

        2

        0
    1. Maybe Kelly down to a Crouch/Merrett type around the 550k mark? Restricted pre-season means he might well be cheaper than Crouch within 3 weeks anyway.

Also I daresay Lloyd will lose some value as well, so maybe look at an alternative F1 to free the money up to go Lycett to Goldstein, and upgrade a FWD rookie?

FWD: Danger, Heeney, Kelly, Moore, Setterfield, Drew (Balta, Petruccelle)

Was a close call between Smith and Ridley for me, along with choosing Cogs ahead of Matt Crouch.

    1. Likely the right call on Smith. The other is just personal choice. Both are good and no recent injury history with Cogs (minor concussion last year).
      Good luck 😉

  8. 1: Only have $700 in the bank

2: I want Coniglio I just don’t know who to get rid of

3: Have I gone too heavy in the mids?

DEFS- Whitfield, Williams, Smith, Scrimshaw, Duursma, Hore (Burgess, Joyce)

MIDS- Macrae, Cripps, Oliver, Neale, M Crouch, B Crouch, Butters, Constable (Scott, Gibbons, Hind)

    RUCKS- Grundy, Gawn (Sweet)

FWDS- Dangerfield, Heeney, Boak, Moore, Setterfield, Drew
    (Parker, Petrucelle)

I like the team, not many rookies on field and a few risks but they aren’t to bad (Smith, Moore, Crouch), I don’t see Williams as a risk as everyone has him, if he goes down we all go down

    Please leave any feedback

      1. I’ve tried to get Walsh in, kids a jet
I’ve found this year more then anything, trying to get the popular players leads you to sacrifice something, if i want Walsh, B Crouch might have to go down to Libba or to Walsh himself, then i use the extra cash to put B smith up to a premo, or I could downgrade Moore to a FWD rookie and upgrade a midfield rookie to Walsh but then the FWDS will be depleted
        Dilema’s all around

        1. I’m guessing by your name you might not like the possibility of straight swapping Macrea to Cogs leaving Mac as an upgrade target? …would also give you extra $$$ to look at Walsh…

      1. Thanks Cougar,

I’m not sold on Moore either, but FWD rookies scoring potential doesn’t inspire much choice I don’t think.

        1. I’d drop witherden alltogether to scrimshaw or similar, and just have smith at d3. That will give you a LOT of cash to use elsewhere.

I see witherden as only about an 85 average this year, and a good defensive rookie will be g9od enough.

With the cash, walsh is almost a must have, and you could upgrade moore if you feel confident with any other fwds.

  18. Just a query , I notice only one team on this thread has Fyfe named. Is it a coincidence or is he out of favour?

    0

    0
    1. I would say he’s out of favour. Just doesn’t play enough games to be a top10 MID by total points scored. He hasn’t made the top10 once in the last four/five years!! That means you can slap an extra $130k on his price tag for the cost of the trade you are likely going to have to make.
Great call if he plays all 22, but will he?!

      3

      0
      1. Think you will find teams have opted for macrae, oliver and cripps as the reliable big guns this year, leaving not much room for fyfe. Injuries aren’t really my concern, it is more that i cant fit fyfe and j kelly in.

Kelly and Fyfe are guns, but people also just haven’t had this reinforced since they didn’t play JLT. They will likely make a lot of people envious when they start scoring highly, but its hard to ‘believe it if you dont see it’.

        1

  19. Still not certain on the makeup of my team (who is though), think this is pretty close.

DEF: Laird, Whitfield, Crisp, Collins, Scrimshaw, Clark (Duursma & Hore)

MID: Cripps, Fyfe, Neale, Coniglio, Brayshaw (Angus), Butters, Stocker, Constable (Scott, Hind & Atkins)

    RCK: Grundy, Gawn (Sweet)

FWD: Danger, Smith, Heeney, Setterfield, Drew, Petruccelle (Balta & Parker)

Not sure about Collins, he should be ok, but the Suns are gonna struggle.
Also not sure about Heeney, he is a good scorer, but for his price I feel like he could be a touch underwhelming (downgrading him could allow me to get Walsh, but I don’t love many FWDS in the 400k area).

All critiques, thoughts and suggestions appreciated.

DEF – Ryan, Andrews, Williams, Ridley, Rozee, Collins (Clark, Duursma)

MID – Cripps, Fyfe, Dusty, M Crouch, Brayshaw, Steele, Walsh, Butters (Hill, Walker, Gibbons)

    RUC – Grundy, Goldstein (Bines)

FWD – Danger, Heeney, Greene, Setterfield, Drew, Petrucelle (Balta, Parker)

I’m going with a different setup than the usual. Using a cheap first two defensive options as “premos” as I do think Ryan and Andrews can become actual premiums. I’m going with the expensive rookies (Ridley, Collins and rozee) to ensure my backline has value if those two don’t end up being full premos. This frees up money to go six deep in my mids, where I’m taking a couple risks. I traded Oliver for Dusty yesterday which freed up some cash as I believe Oliver might not improve with the inclusion of Harmes and Viney to the team (and I think 2017 Dusty will return). My only worry with this team is the fwds May seriously flop as even the rookies don’t have the best job security.

    Any feedback is appreciated, thanks!

    1. I like this team, very similar to mine! One thing I’d have to advise against is not starting with either Grundy or Gawn. They are pretty much the supercoach kings and you WILL be burned by other teams with both. I’d also suggest keeping Heeney, I’m convinced he should be a lock in every team as he has never really played predominantly in the midfield but still has averaged HUGE numbers. This year he’s primed for a lot of midfield time!

      1. Cavaara wont play early.
Don’t like smith for the price so would definitely look at dunkley (or kelly).
Similar to what Henry said, you will have to use a lot of trades to get the likely top 2 ruckman (gawn/grundy), which puts you behind barring a lot of luck.
Witherden is a pod but could be a trap (reverse pod), and his JLT form didn’t help his case. Can score low so be prepared for some crap weeks. Ridley not for me also

    1. Hate to say it, but I’d start by pressing the CLEAR TEAM button! Then:

      i. Pick ALL the decent rookies you can find who will play Rd1 AND have as decent JS as you can find
ii. Pick the MUST-HAVE premos and ‘bargains’ that you are 110% certain (barring injury) are either gonna stay in your team until the end of the year (keepers) and/or will make you AT LEAST $150k (stepping stones)
iii. With the remaining hole(s) you have to fill, is/are there any ‘bargain players’ you’d be happy to fill the hole(s)? If not, then downgrade your worst premo to obtain the funds you need to pick players that you are happy with (offering some combination of pts and $$s to be made).

While a lot could go right for your team, I feel SO many things could go wrong, it’s hard to know where to start.

Good luck whatever you decide. After all it is your team. 😉

    1. Looks great Grandpa!
Do you not have enough money to turn Watson into Duursma?! I am not completely against two loopholes, but given the shortage of decent rookies in the FWD line, I’d probably pick one there instead if i had to.
You could get rid of Watson, swing Burgess back and pick one FWD instead. Would make a little more sense but two loopholes is not ideal!!

      1. Clarkson said on SEN due to his injuries at GC they have a to get a lot of work into him through out the pre season, Clarkson referenced his 12 possessions early against Richmond and then only ended up with 20 touches for the game- Clarkson admitted that playing against season professionals such as RICHMOND was as understandable result but referenced he still has a way to go.
Clarkson didn’t say he wouldn’t be playing round 1 – personally I think they have to play him!! They have to blood Worpel Cousins aswell – extremely tough Como this year but Clarkson always finds away #GOAT

  40. Hey, fellas. Pretty much got my team ready for R1 just have a niggling issues I’d love some feedback on, as well as your thoughts on my team as a whole.

    Here it is:

DEF: Lloyd, Hurn, Williams, Scrimshaw, Clark, Hore, Duursma & Watson*

MID: Macrae, Cripps, Oliver, Coniglio*, Steele, Walsh, Butters, Constable, Scott, Atkins & Gibbons

    RUC: Grundy, Gawn & Fort*

FWD: Dangerfield, Heeney, Darling, Moore, Setterfield, Drew, Petrucelle & Parker

I’ve put an asterisk next to the areas where I need feedback, so here we go:

    1) I’ve got Watson down back as my loophole, won’t get a game and Freo have heaps of Sunday/late Saturday games. However I’m seeing very few people do the same, is this a sound decision?

    2) Which leads me to my second issue: Fort. I know his JLT scores were horrific but if he’s going to get a few games should I start him over a Sweet or Bines seeing though I’ve already got Watson as my loophole? He’ll generate a bit of cash won’t he?

    3) Pretty simple one, Coniglio or Crouch? I got rid of Kelly at M4 over injury concerns, was that a sound decision as well?

Phew! Quite a lot to type, but the site is full of SC sages so I figured it was worth consulting you all before R1.

    Cheers!

I am very weak in my forward line and am just wondering if anyone has ideas on how to strengthen it, and if there is any other locks for rookies/low priced players in the forward line.

I’ve gone with lobb in the ruck becuase I know he will get game time and has much more scoring potential with Freo comparedto GWS where his role was split between him, Mumford and Patton

Back line I feel is pretty solid but I feel as though I could spare a premium Back for a forward, but then I don’t know who to get rid of and want rookie/Low pricer I would take in???
Looking to keep a bit of cash in the bank just in case I want to change it up and get someone in before there price goes up after the three games.

    1. I’d try and find a way to get Darcy Moore into your FWD line seeing as you only have a F1 and F2. Downgrade Zac Clarke to a 102k non playing Rookie as you need that cash else where

      1

      0
    2. I reckon switch Lobb forward if you want him, have your cheap DPP ruck at R3 and then downgrade one of Laird/Lloyd to Sam Collins and try get Goldstein at R2.
Doing this is basically backing in Collins over your FWD rookies (win on points and Job Security) and backing in Goldstein over Lloyd/Laird (at least a break even there as will all finish between 105-110 you would think.

      1. Have to agree with this as a minimum. Way too strong down back and way too weak up forward.

General points: Balta has no JS. Drew probably won’t play once Wines is back in Rd2. Scrimshaw is unlikely to play if Carko’s comments are to be believed!

Ridley, Moore and BSmith have their risks, but ALL have decent JS and if you can get 6/7 games out of them you should be in a good spot!

        Good luck!

    RUC
    Grundy Gawn (Bines)

    FWD
    Dangerfield Heeney Billings
    Moore Setterfield Drew (Petrucelle, Parker)

    Couple of risks
    1. Newman being tossing and turning all preseason and love the Blues signing him and his elite kick. Just didn’t get a gig at the Swans much like Titch
    2. 5 deep in MID but 4-5 M.Crouch and Steele. Couple of questions marks but should return a higher value come end of season and greatly increase from starting value
    3. Billings. Going with the Burnman himself. Got me last year and I can’t help but go around again.
    4. Moore. I think he should be solid and just a lack of FWD certainty could give you a few weeks to see which FWDs are looking the goods and which ones struggle out the gate to trade him up too

    Any help much appreciated

    Cheers

    1. would get rid of billings and possibly move burgess up to forward whilst trading in the likes of whitfield as I have been consistently hearing from a lot of people that he is the man to have this year, given his new role and the form he was in at the end of last year up until finals

    1. Solid. Love the McGrath and Sheed selections as left field ones, not sure what you are exoecting from De Goey and McCarthy though. Are they 90+ averaging in your opinion?
Your forward line has injury risk all over on the ground…and 2 rookies that may not be picked come round 3-4 once Wines and Jamie Cripps return.

Clarko said Scrimshaw has a lot to do to be AFL ready and Jonas said Drew might play if Wines isn’t ready, and he should be back in Rd2 or before!

    1. Looks fantastic for your first year. Just be aware that Drew doesn’t have solid job security (JS), which means he might not make you the $$s you’d like.
This is a REALLY tough year for rookies, so do what you need to, to have 29 players start (+ loophole) and you’ll be ahead of the pack!
      Best of luck 😉

  57. Hey lads just wondering your thoughts on a current situation

    Am currently tossing up between
    Darling/Collins and Whitfield/forward rookie
With such weak rookies in the fwd Line this year would starting Darling with Danger, Heeney and Dunkley be smart or would that leave my defense of Lloyd, Williams, Smith, Collins, Scrimshaw, Clark to weak??

    Thoughts??

    0

    0
    1. Apart from whether or not to “Grawndy” this is the biggest dilemma of the year I think.
My solution is a 4 premo FWD line plus Moore and Setterfield, just like you are thinking of.
F3-F4 will vary based on who you think is capable of being a top 8 forward, but for mine, Darling is thereabouts.
(I have Dunkley and Billings FYI)

    2. Whatever you need to do to have 29 playing with decent JS!
I have now pushed Setterfield to F6 due to lack of FWD rookies! My DEF line is putrid, but at least everyone will be playing!!

A lot of low risk mid pricers, but just can’t settle on a F3.. Thoughts and any feedback greatly appreciated

    1. Appreciate the difficulty with F3, but the answer isn’t Vandenberg. He has an 80 average in him if everything goes right for him in that strong Melbourne team.
Your war chest needs to find a potential top 10 FWD around the 450k mark

      1

      0
    2. 4/4 MID is an interesting play, i think you might want to spend that on F3 F4 F5 similar to your B3 B4 B5 B6.
In saying that I like the point of difference.

    3. Cavarra is out for at least 3weeks and even then won’t likely play having not been trialled in JLT!
Drew’s JS appears shaky at best.
Am afraid you’ll likely have to lose a DEF premo to address what is likely going to be a very problematic FWD line for all SCTers!

    1. Keep an eye on Scrimshaw. Drew’s JS is shaky and Burgess might make a dollar, but not much more.
Make plans just in case and good luck 😉

  64. Hey, have played around with this like a crazy person, any feedback would be welcome. I’ve gone for GnR with Mills as a breakout pick.

  66. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Keep making changes and need to lock something down.

Whitfield, Williams, Smith, Collins, Scrimshaw, Clark (Duursma, Hore)

Cripps, Oliver, Neale, Coniglio, M. Crouch, Walsh, Butters, Constable (Scott, Atkins, Gibbons)

    Grundy, Gawn (Clarke)

Dangerfield, Menegola, Heeney, Greene, Setterfield, Parker (Drew, Petruccelle)

Feel Defence may be too weak and worried about Greene, Williams and Smith. If I downgrade one to upgrade another am I missing some potential good value?

    All comments welcome

    1. My other thought is to downgrade Neale to Hind and Menegola to Kelly. This leaves cash to change Smith to Laird, Williams to Crisp and Greene to Dunkley. Which set up looks strongest?

      Thanks

      1. Looks solid Bob. If an extra forward rookie is naned you could downgrade Greene to strengthen the weak backline but I won’t hold my breath!

    2. Looks good. If you can use Hind to turn Greene into a Dunkley type is do it. DEF line is weak but so is mine. Your overall team will be stronger than others tho’ as you’re gambling on less crap rookies! Hold tight, it’s gonna be some ride. And good luck! 😉

      1. A bit risky starting so many borderline Top 6 defenders but if there was ever a year to take a risk down bsck, this is it!

If I was to make a change to your team, I’d downgrade a forward, and perhaps a midprice defender, to upgrade a midfield rookie to a premo.

    1. I reckon Ahern, LDU and Blakey look a bit dodgy, otherwise solid. Perhaps downgrade Ahern and LDU and use the cash to grab another premo defender?

    2. I don’t mind it. Your NTH gambles may pay off as they have the easiest first 8 games of ANY side in the comp!

I know everyone is saying Gawn Grundy In rucks is a must have but I feel they won’t go up in price much through out the season so I can look to upgrade later in the season. Also for the points I lose with cheaper rucks I’ll make up with and extra premium or 2 in another line.
Am I out of my mind or is this a viable strategy?

    1. Too big a risk in the RUC. Clarke is unlikely to play unless something happens to Bellend between now and first bounce.
I’d seriously consider losing both Laird and Sicily to address your RUCs. There is more decent bargain cover down back than anywhere else. My advice is to use it!
That said, it’s your team and I’ll look like an ass if Gawndy doesn’t work out. Good luck! 😉

$254k remaining – bit stuck with the midfield, was thinking to take the risk & hope Crouch & Liberatore rise in value.
