Crisp – Sloane – Gray POD

Confident Sloane will return to his premium form.
Crisp is solid, he will be consistent all year.
Gray has a lot of upside – easily has the potential to be a top 4 fwd if given Mid time.

Thoughts on having Sloane over Crouch?
    Thanks everyone

    1. Sloane is an absolute jet but can see him getting the tag like Zorko as he is the player who can tear a team apart.
Gray a good selection and good point
Totally agree with Crisp, can see him being that breakout defender who can get top 5 easily. Just nervous as nobody has picked him much at all…

      1. I agree with you in Sloane is certainly a slipppery slope but nobody ever won by following the sheep, I am backing him,.
Crouch bros will give the crows the mid depth they so desperately need in order to let Sloane do his thing, unlike a testing 2018 for the midfield group. I see it as a – Med Risk – High reward scenario.

Best of luck this year Scotty thankyou for your response.

  2. Hey Guys this is my team. What do you guys think?

Mills, Williams, Newman, Smith, Collins, Clark (Hore, Duursma)

Macrae, Cripps, Martin, Crouch, Sheed, Libba, Walsh, Butters (Scott, Constable, Gibbons)

    Grundy, Gawn (Sweet)

Dangerfield, Dunkley, Billings, Greene, Moore, Setterfield (Petrucelle, Drew)

With the backs I’ve gone a lot more cash cows and mid Rangers. I think Mills will have a breakout year in midfield and hoping to upgrade to Lloyd at some stage. Williams is a no brainer I think, Smith is a lock for me and Newman hopefully does a decent job. Collins is a cash cow and I’m hoping one of Clark, Hore and Dursmma play each week and they all should get me cash.

With the mids my big 3 of Macrae, Cripps and Martin will give me good captain options each week. I’m banking on mid rangers to all deliver in crouch, Libba and Sheed. Hopefully Sheed does good without gaff to start season and earn some coin. Walsh and Butters are two cash cows and my bench should all make some money and at least one to play each week.

I just had to go with gawn and Grundy and a loophole option with sweet.

Danger and Dunkley have been in my team since day 1 with their form last year and early jlt and billing’s is too cheap to ignore. I know he burnt me last year but I’m crossing my fingers. Greene is a risk but I’m hoping to keep him or get Kennedy as I think Kennedy is cheap and will score well with the new 6-6-6. Moore will make money and take kick outs I think to increase his score and Setterfield, petrucelle and drew will all make money and hopefully one plays at least every week.

    A few questions.

I notice a lot of people have drew on field. Should I get rid of Greene and have drew on field and get another cheap option up forward to give me an extra 200k to spend elsewhere?

    Any midfield options to consider?

And thoughts on defence? I like my logic but thoughts on that and the whole team would be great. Thanks guys and good luck to everyone this year!!

    1. Good team but which Crouch? I have my doubts about Brad still, i think he may burn a few people as he won’t deliver to their expectations…
Newman is an interesting one, looks great value but Blues are going to play young players so be weary he may get pushed out.
Sheed is a watch in my opinion, set the world alight in JLT but think he dominates in WA but outside he is average… except for the granny haha just see how he goes at Gabba and may need to swap him even to a Viney

  3. At this stage I’m taking on some of the higher owned players, Grundy, Heeney, Laird which might be crazy, but for these 3 in particular I see a path where they start slow. For upgrade purposes I need one of Smith, Williams, or Greene to be a keeper, if 2 could be that really sets me up nicely.

    1. Good looking team! Just Jacobs is a no go and Collins preseason form seems to indicate he will not score well for supercoach, for his price tag i would consider downgrading

      1. Yeah don’t really like collins but I think Scrimshaw is unlikely to play, don’t Clarko likes his style much, doesn’t seem 100% committed on being an AFL footballer, with Jacobs I don’t love it but I think him & B.Smith outscore Grundy & Duursma if you get what I mean, thanks for the feedback!

        0

        2
        1. If you are thinking that way then even consider downgrading Jacobs to English, Jacobs is an old fella and English will have number one ruck as Roughy is gone. Plus his JLT points scores for his TOG have been thrown under radar.
Worst case he makes some cash early on and you can upgrade

          0

          1. Actually started the preseason with English R2, agree ppm was great but Trengrove is there too & Tim just doesn’t look ready, if there was a viable R3 I’d be more keen, Jacobs comes off an injury affected year & also had some personal issues, with Crows’ draw I think he’s getting back to 95 & maybe pushing 100 to the byes.

      1. Thanks Dann, yeah Libba is risky but quite a distance to next best! Will trade if he has an average start.
Mills i have no doubt will kill it, has not put a foot wrong this preseason and Swans will be looking to him and Heeney to freshen up their mid

    2. Don’t believe Scrimshaw, Wilkie or Cottrell will start and think Drew will only play until Wines is back (2 games at best).
I may be wrong, but I’d be making plans based on that scenario I’m afraid. Horrible thought but remember, it’s the same for everyone!
Those who make the best plans …

  5. Close to final setup….

DEF: Lloyd, Laird, Whitfield, Scrimshaw, Duursma, Burgess (Wilkie, Hore)

MID: Cripps, Oliver, Cogs, Yeo, M.Crouch, Walsh, Constable, Drew (Bewley, Hind, Gibbons)

    RUCK: Grundy, Goldy (Sweet)

FWD: Danger, Smith, Heeney, Blakey, Setterfield, Petrucelle (Balta, Parker)

Onfield rookies subject to change. Still tossing up whether Blakey is worth the price.

Yeo and D.Smith are almost POD’s this year….not huge selection numbers.

    Thoughts?

  6. The final details are being solidified, and what’s looking more likely is a ‘1 midpricer per line’ philosophy.

D: Whitfield, Hurn, Williams, Smith, Collins, Scrim/Clark, Burgess, Duursma

M: Cripps, Oliver, Coniglio, MCrouch, Libba, Walsh, Butters, Constable, Atkins, Hind, Scott

    R: Grawndy

F: Danger, Heeney, Mundy, Moore, Setterfield, Drew, Petrucelle, Parker

The real peak of this team is a spare 110k. That’s just enough to upgrade any of Smith, Libba or Moore to Mills, BCrouch, or Greene depending on if any injuries, backfires occur. If not, splurge on solid rookies come Rd 3.

Your thoughts and improvements, as always, are appreciated.

      1. I agree that Hore is probably the better option of the two head to head but if you start D.Moore in fwd line, Burgess in the backline could give fantastic flexibility, especially when we don’t know which rookies will keep their spots past round 1

        6

        0
            1. he likely has decent JS. His four easiest games are straight off the bat. If you’re gonna be happy to take $50-70k from him, I’d start him, otherwise not.
due to huge lack of decent rookies, it might well be worth it!

              1

              0
        1. I like the DPP swing too, but it’s not all that essential – and though I struggle with premo backs, lots of F4 options around that 500k range.

I mean Christ, even Whitfield’s apparently a forward now!

          1

          0
      2. As a Demons fan I question Hore’s JS min a team that is touted as top 8 and strengthened it’s defence with the inclusion of May. Just looks a tough ask for Hore to keep his job..

        2

        1
        1. yeah, that’s the reason he’s out of the team – I love Melbourne but our depth really seems like it will strangle Hore out of the team, whereas Burgess has a base level js

    1. Get Stocker and Bewley out, as they don’t have a solid role for their team. Have a think about Hately as well.
Have a think about getting in Tom Atkins or Bailey Scott and you can’t miss out on Butters.

      1

      0
    2. Stengle and Cavarra (for weeks) won’t play Rd1. Drew’s JS is shaky I think, but you can always start him and make a corrective trade if needs be.

    1. I like that structure and team overall, especially if you have confidence in English’s JS. Andrews and Darling are two KPP that should benefit from the 6-6-6. Im unsure about Crisp tho. I prefer Dunkley over Wallis too, younger and a bigger ceiling.

    DEF – Whitfield – Hurn – Z.Williams – B.Smith – Moore – Collins (Clark – Hore)

    MID – Cripps – Coniglio – Martin – Brayshaw – B.Crouch – Walsh – Butters – Constable (Scott – Atkins – Gibbons)

    1. Looks great, but I’d turn Laird or Lloyd into a ‘bargain’ player and upgrade either Drew (shaky JS) or Burgess (spud) into something half decent. Your DEF will obviously look a lot weaker but your overall team will be better AND stronger!
      Good luck!

Got a pretty straightforward team at this stage but also have $170,500k in the bank. Wanted any thoughts on how i could use this to improve the team, or if this is the year to hold a bit of cash especially if rookies get dropped early. What do you think?

    1. Very midfield heavy, Theo. Problem with that is you’re depriving yourself of some decent cash cows, namely Scott and Butters in your case. Perhaps drop a midfield premo for a rookie and reinforce your backline.

      1

      0
    2. I’d go further and drop at least two of them for rookies and bolster your FWD line (spuds and potential donuts). When your happy with that, spend (if any) what’s left to bolster your backs.
      Good luck!

    $66k left over

Don’t know if I need an extra premo/mid pricer down back. Would be Laird/Smith and could swing Duursma to the mid and get rid of Gibbons. Would need to downgrade a mid to Libba though and I still need to be convinced on him. Lloyd will drop and pick him up during the byes.

Like everyone in my midfield. Mid-pricers are tempting but figured I’ll stick with reliable picks. Bit worried about no MacCrae.

Grundy and Gawn? Sooo expensive but I don’t see anyone else being top two rucks. Set and forget. Hopefully.

Dunkley? Had him in my team from day 1 after his form after the byes last year. His JLT1 messed with me. A bit risky with the number of players rotating in and out of the dog’s midfield but rate him over Kelly who has only played one season.

    Thoughts?

    1. Yep, solid thought process. I’m not sold on Witherden though, either replace him with Andrews or find a bit more cash and grab Hurn. Otherwise, a really nice team.

  17. Hey, fellas. Pretty much got my team ready for R1 just have a niggling issues I’d love some feedback on, as well as your thoughts on my team as a whole.

    Here it is:

DEF: Lloyd, Hurn, Williams, Scrimshaw, Clark, Hore, Duursma & Watson*

MID: Macrae, Cripps, Oliver, Coniglio*, Steele, Walsh, Butters, Constable, Scott, Atkins & Gibbons

    RUC: Grundy, Gawn & Fort*

FWD: Dangerfield, Heeney, Darling, Moore, Setterfield, Drew, Petrucelle & Parker

I’ve put an asterisk next to the areas where I need feedback, so here we go:

    1) I’ve got Watson down back as my loophole, won’t get a game and Freo have heaps of Sunday/late Saturday games. However I’m seeing very few people do the same, is this a sound decision?

    2) Which leads me to my second issue: Fort. I know his JLT scores were horrific but if he’s going to get a few games should I start him over a Sweet or Bines seeing though I’ve already got Watson as my loophole? He’ll generate a bit of cash won’t he?

    3) Pretty simple one, Coniglio or Crouch? I got rid of Kelly at M4 over injury concerns, was that a sound decision as well?

Phew! Quite a lot to type, but the site is full of SC sages so I figured it was worth consulting you all before R1.

    Cheers!

    1. Coniglio for me GD, over Crouch, Kelly and Neale IMO. I think he is in for a (another) big year (having said that I currently don’t have him or any of them) !! Funny how so many sides now have Darcy Moore in them. Darling at F3 is great although it makes Moore at F4 a little more risky I think (both KPP). Good side though good luck !!

    2. Hi mate
I’m only picking one recognised premo down back as I think there are enough rookies and bargains to fill the gaps.
I’ve done this because I am only willing to start 3 FWD rookies, with Setterfield at F6! I can’t find ANY other way to have 29 players with decent JS who I like. I’ve done this to avoid picking a second loophole! 😉
Don’t pick Fort, he is now third in line at best. Abbott is knocking on the door after two great VFL games, the last against Werribee where he was named BOG!
Coniglio or Crouch? I dunno. Both great picks so which ever makes you feel warmer 😉
      Good luck GD 😉

      0
      1. Haha, right on cue!

Well, if I’m not picking Fort, I’m guessing I’ll use a Bines/Sweet a loophole- meaning I’ve got to then replace Watson. Hmm.

  18. 9.6k in bank

DEF – Ryan, Andrews, Williams, Ridley, Collins, Clark (Hore, Duursma)

MID – Macrae, Cripps, Fyfe, Dusty, Brayshaw, Steele, Walsh, Butters (Hill, Walker, Gibbons)

    RUC – Grundy, Goldstein (Bines)

FWD – Danger, Heeney, Greene, Setterfield, Drew, Petrucelle (Balta, Parker)

I’m going with a different setup than the usual. Using a cheap first two defensive options as “premos” as I do think Ryan and Andrews can become actual premiums. I’m going with the expensive rookies (Ridley, Collins, Clark) to ensure my backline has value if those two don’t end up being full premos. This frees up money to go six deep in my mids, where I’m taking a couple risks. I traded Oliver for Dusty yesterday which freed up some cash as I believe Oliver might not improve with the inclusion of Harmes and Viney to the team (and I think 2017 Dusty will return). I’m going Jack Steele as my sneaky POD thanks to this page :), and I swapped Crouch for Macrae yesterday after realising that if I’m going six deep in mids I’m going to want to start with the best. My only worry with this team is the fwds May seriously flop as even the rookies don’t have the best job security.

    Any feedback is appreciated, thanks!

    1. Hi Henry, strong midfield but perhaps unnecessarily so to be honest, I can see you potentially losing patience with your back and forward lines pretty quickly, no matter how well your midfield is going. I would look at ditching one of Dusty, Brayshaw or Steele and upgrading Greene and either D1 or D2. You are not far away though IMO !!

      0

      0
      1. Gotta agree, too midfield heavy. I’d be grabbing a Hurn or Lloyd down back over Ryan, who I don’t think can a reliable D1 – 3.

        1. Thanks guys!

I just want to highlight that Lloyd, Sicily and Simpson were the only backs that avg 100+ last year and they are extremely expensive. Hurn and Whitfield were both 96 and 99 respectively with Ryan and Andrews being 93 and 92 (discluding injury affected games). Ryan had the lowest play on % from kick ins and they are both young so I’m banking on improvement (just a risk I’m gonna take). With the mids I’ll look to exchange a premo for a forward premo as it is looking like I’m too heavy there.

If I were to go with Lloyd and upgrade Toby my team would look exactly like everyone else’s which I’m not doing this year as I’ve done it for 3+ years and never had success. Thank you guys very much though!

The only thing is the forward line is a bit too weak in terms of I’m not sure that they will all play each week and even if they do they won’t all score really well. I suggest maybe downgrading a few premiums in the midfield and strengthening your forward line because you might get frustrated with it throughout the season if rookies start off slow and get dropped and then it’s really hard to trade them away. Just a thought mate.

  22. Hey guys, I just want some advice on what to do with my defender rookies. I have to play 3 on the field due to my structure but I have enough money to get Ridley so I’m thinking I’ll put him D4. Duursma is locked at D5 and Hore is locked at D8.This leaves me enough to either go Collins D6 and Burgess D7, or Clark D6 and Scrimshaw D7.
Probably worth noting I have Moore in the forward line so being able to swing him and Burgess without losing a trade could be handy.
    So,
T/U for Collins and Burgess (higher JS)
T/D for Clark and Scrimshaw (higher scoring potential)

  23. Hi Guys Feedback would be appreciated

The dreaded F3…… Can afford anyone. Have Danger & Heeney….. Thoughts

    Down back the same issue……

    Need to pick 2 of Lloyd…Laird…. Sicily….. Crisp….. Williams….. Whitfield

Thoughts anyone….. Im leaning to Sicily as Hawks have a softish draw up to Round 7 and Whitfield as I think he will play more mid minutes
Im looking at upgrading Lloyd later

  24. Lloyd, Whitfield, Williams, Smith, Ridley, Clarke. (Hore, Duursma)

McCrae, Cripps, Crouch, Brayshaw, Crouch, Walsh, Constable, Butters. (Scott, Aikens, Gibbons)

    Gawn, Grundy. (Alabaskis)

Dangerfield, Heeney, SPS, McCarthy, Setterfield, Drew. (Parker, Petrucelli)

Gone light up fwd but figure will let them sort it out as besodes danger, heeney no one really screaming pick me.

SPS i feel with more mid time could really spike in scoring this year.

    Thoughts?

    1. hi Michel, team looks ok but put danger into fwds and replace smith with a premo mid. I would have Gawn as well instead of Goldstein

    2. Hey MicHael, going off Murray’s idea, I’d put danger in forward line for smith and replace him in midfield with Taranto. Shiel is gone and I’ve got Taranto in my team and he’s had a good start to season with two good jlts and a bog in intra club. Worth a shot I reckon

  27. Who else is nervous for team announcement? If someone who I have never heard of gets selected watch my pull the trigger and just put them in.

Let me know what you think of this team- $85,700 in the bank

Def: Lloyd, Hurn, Williams, Smith, Clark, Duursma (Burgess, Hore)

Mid: Cripps, Coniglio, MCrouch, Gus Brayshaw, B. Crouch, Libba, Walsh, Constable (Scott, Atkins, Gibbons)

    Ruck: Grundy, Goldstein (Fort)

Fwd: Danger, Heeney, Dunkley, Moore, Setterfield, Drew (JPetch, Parker)

Will be going the big loophole with Cripps R1.

    Ruck: Grundy, Goldstein (Sweet)

Fwd: Danger, Heeney, Kelly, D.Moore (Coll), Setterfield, Drew (Petrucelle, Parker)

    Any thoughts appreciated

    1. Hey Ben, love the team. I would maybe trade Goldstein for gawn and get brad couch for Matt crouch. That will save you 100k to get Gawn and I don’t think there’s a lot of difference in ceiling between the crouch brothers. Worth a shot I reckon because I think this is the year gawn and Grundy should be the rucks so u can set and forget them for the year. Just a thought haha but good luck

  29. Here is my Team:
Def – Laird, Whitfield, Mills, Moore, Collins, Duursma. (Clark, Hore)
Mid – Cripps, Oliver, Fyfe, Martin, M Crouch, Walsh, Butters, Scott. (Constable, Atkins, Gibbons)
    Ruc – Grundy, Gawn (Unsure)
Fwd – Dangerfield, Heeney, Billings, Setterfield, Burgess, Drew. (Petruccelle, Cavarra).

Possibly thinking of Laird to Brodie Smith, then a Rookie midfielder to maybe Liberatore or someone of that mid price nature.

MID: Cripps, oliver, fyfe, j kelly, j steele, libba, s walsh, z butters (b scott, constable, gibbons)

    RUCK: Westhoff, Goldy (Bines)*
FWD: Danger, Heeney, Mundy, McCarthy, Setterfield, Petruccelle (Burgress, Parker)

*Not a typo I have not chosen Gawn or Grundy – Strategy being spend the money elsewhere and can do 2x luxury trades to Gawn/Grundy if they are killing it or have dropped in price.

  32. Issue 1: Are coach’s losing interest in Whitfield??? I dont see him in many teams.

A lot of teams I see are going with one of the big two (Lloyd or Laird) then Williams and Smith, making only 3 defenders & rookies
This can be achievable because there are enough good rookies in the back line this year.

Issue 2: The big problem is the forwards, very few decent rookie picks on this line, so it might be better to go 3 defenders and 4 premo fwds along with 2 onfield rookies.

What do you think about these 2 issues????

    let me know

    1. I think your right Murray. I haven’t gone with any of the big 3 in the backline but my backs are more mid pricers and rookies. I have Moore and Collins in there and I have loaded up my forward line getting danger Dunkley Heeney and billing’s with Setterfield and drew. Collins smith Williams and Moore should all be licks for everyone I’d think and that’s what I’ve done. I have a few more rookies in midfield too cos I see a lot of cash cows there in butters smith and few of those

  34. After plenty of research I’ve put together my first draft, which I won’t be touching again till Thursday night (unless there are plenty of thumbs down). Any feedback would be appreciated.

DEF: Lloyd, Williams, Smith, Collins, Scrimshaw, Clark (Hore, Duursma)
MID: Macrae, Cripps, Oliver, Neale, M.Crouch, Walsh, Butters, Scott (Constable, Atkins, Gibbons)
    RUC: Gawn, Grundy (Sweet)
FWD: Danger, Heeney, Dunkley, Moore, Setterfield, Drew (Petruccelle, Parker)

    1. Hey Dunnys, welcome.
Personally, I think you have gone a little bit overboard with the mid pricers. Main conerns would be Petracca and Newnes. IMO you are one uber premium short in the midfield. But risks can pay off and you may get off to a great start. Good luck.

    2. Hey mate I don’t think you should waste your midfield spots with McGrath and newnes. Newnes is really cheap and with all saints injuries I reckon he could be the go in the forward line. McGrath should go down back and you can get in another premium in the midfield by swapping petracca out and newnes in forward line. Just a thought mate but other than that pretty good.

  37. Almost complete, I would like a few PODs, a lot of teams looking very similar this year.
I have a few worries about Crisp, Westhoff, and De Goey, are they viable POD’s?
Have I left out any must have rookies? Or picked some that I should steer clear of?

81k left in the bank, enough? too much?

    1. Backline will struggle for no reason other than poor rookie choice. Look at duursman, scrimshaw, and collins in that order.

You are missing two supposedly onfield rookies, which makes it tough to reply at all..

Westhoff and degoey are risks, considering the dunkley/kelly types are set to score much higher.
Unless something great happens, westhoff 90 ave, degoey 85 ave. Not a good idea imo.

    2. Hey mate yeah you need 2 more mids. I wouldn’t get rozee he had a bad jlt and not sure he will have immediate impact so he might get dropped and they have 4 debutants that age. I would get smith in and a pod that I’m on this year is Taranto. He should start well and can even be an upgrade to a more expensive player before bye maybe

    1. Too many MIDs and this means you have potentially poor rookies in DEF and FWD lines. Don’t think Scrimshaw, Burgess and Balta will combine to make you $50k, let alone a target $450k for 3 rookies.

    1. Like it
Actually I like it a lot
      No Collins which is great
Even if the backline is a tad risky the mids, ruck and fwds look real nice, especially with a decent f4
And a healthy bank balance for back up
Hope ya have a solid year

  40. Hey SCT community.
Thought I’d share my final team (pending rookies on team announcements)
Whitfield, Williams, Smith, Scrimshaw, Clark, Duursma (Hore, Burgess)
Macrae, Cripps, Oliver, Neale, M.Crouch, Libba, Walsh, Constable (Scott, Atkins, Gibbons)
    Grundy, Gawn (Bines)
Danger, Heeney, Kelly, Moore, Setterfield, Drew (Petruccelle, Parker) 20k left

My main concerns are running 3 rookies in the backline, without Collins. Would love to get Scrimshaw up to Collins but not willing to compromise anywhere else. Also a bit light up forward. The Moore/ Burgess combo can hopefully help this. Also worried that all 3 Geelong rookies that I have selected may not all play round 1 and I don’t have the cash for Butters who I really like the look of.

Possible changes: Out: Macrae, Scrimshaw, Gibbons. In: Dusty, Collins, Butters.
Also looking for a POD and thinking of swapping Kelly for Mundy in the F3 position. He has very low ownership atm.

Feel free to rip it apart if you like and good luck to everyone going into round 1! It’s going to be a fun year

    3

    1. The deep mids are compromising other lines, so I’d get rid of libba personally. Butters the obvious choice. But then i cant judge too harshly, because i also have the same def rookies. Guess 8f you trust the rookies it is overall a great side

    2. Good team Daniels_Riches and like most of your premium selections.

      An option could be
      Out: J Macrae, B Grundy/M Gawn, J Scrimshaw, X Duursma, T Liberatore

      In: R Sloane, T Goldstein, S Collins, J Crisp/S Hurn, J Cousins

      1

      2
    3. Looks great mate. Might be a tad heavy in the MIDs at the cost of DEF and FWD lines. Not sure Drew has decent JS (Wines) and there are better ‘bargain’ options down back. Surely Butters is a safer pick than Libba? Might give you the cash to make those tweaks. If not enough, I’d seriously consider dropping one of your top 5. Am only running 4 MID premos myself. While frustrating, I’m MUCH happier with overall strength of my side.
      Good luck in 2019 D_R 😉

      1. To run a 4 premo set up, how many mid-pricers do you have? Have you replaced a premo for a Cousins type?
Might give that set up a fiddle around.

        0

        0
      2. Allsaints – if only 4 premo mids, who else have you played? Whitfield and another premo defender? And / Or 4 premo forwards with say dunkley as well as kelly??

    4. I’d follow who you put down in possible changes mate. Macrae is a fun and I love him but he’s too expensive at that price for me in the end and dusty will light it up and butters will make you cash. I’d go with that mate

    1. I don’t mind the risk, but it could go downhill very quickly with Greene, Billings and Brayshaw all in the side.
I’d personally prefer going with two of the three, given that Greene and Billings are not guaranteed to be premo keepers (given Billings inconsistency and Greene’s injury/suspension history) and Brayshaw is one more head knock away from a decent stint on the sidelines for his safety.

  48. Can anyone please verify something for me.
During the season I know that if you make a trade after the first game of the round has started it can’t be reversed (I have been caught out before). Is this the same for round 1 or can you reverse trades because there are unlimited trades for the first round? Obviously you can’t trade players once they have played.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

  50. Holy heck, there are simply too many RMT posts on here to comment on them all.

From what I see, I believe a lot of people are NOT reading FD’s Rules of Cow Acquisition. You really can’t read it too many times. Can I just suggest you read it again and MAKE SURE YOU PICK ALL THE DECENT COWS AND BARGAINS! And let this dictate your premo structure and NOT THE OTHER WAY ROUND. This is so important this year with the distinct lack of quality rookies and will help you avoid serious carnage.

That said, have fun dissecting it all and putting a team together that you are happy with. It’s gonna be a fascinating year!

Good luck everyone in 2019 😉

      2. Have to agree with Freddy. Not ideal, but will go down to as few as 10 premos if I have to!
Nearly made it through last year with only 9 I started with and lots of injuries, so it is doable.
Am gonna do whatever I have to, to try and ensure I have no donuts come Rd6. Of course nothing is guaranteed, but you can minimise the risk.

  51. Think I’ve finally settled on a team. I don’t like having only 12 keepers but I think the rookies are poor this year so I’m taking a couple of risks. Any feedback would be great!

  53. Hey guys just a few tips I have found when looking at people’s teams and a few suggestions. Backline I would be going with Williams and smith for definite and have Collins there too as his js is high. Midfield is where you want your rookies. I know people are tempted to go big but you want your cash cows and the midfield is where they are. Fwd line and backline have good rookies but js isn’t great with a lot. I’ve got moreid pricers which a lot of people go against but I think haveing Walsh as m7 and the likes of butters, Scott or Constable m8 is a good idea. You only need one of them to play each week and that saves you money elsewhere where you will need it. Tim Taranto is a great pod. Personally I would lock him in because he will make you money and then u can upgrade to a fallen premium like kelly or Fyfe if they start slow due to injury or whoever you please. Gawn and Grundy are the rucks to get. You can set and forget them this year and they will play all year. Forward I would have danger and Heeney locks and I would strongly consider Dunkley as well. Setterfield should be a lock and like with the midfield you should have Setterfield f5 and one of drew Parker petrucelle on the field and others on bench. Like I said you only need one to play each week and they all should play fairly often too but you only need one each week. One backline pod I like is Callum mills who averaged 100 in jlt and should play a lot of midfield time. Coniglio is on the rise too and I don’t think you can go without brad crouch either. He is cheap and while he can be injury prone he looks the goods averaging 120 in jlt and you need a high risk high reward player. That’s across the board. I think this year everyone will have very similar teams. So it will be the unique options you pick that set you apart. Good luck everyone hope my advice was alright haha and good luck

    1. Hi Jordy, I agree with a lot that you said but I do think that your comment saying “the midfield is where you want your rookies” is contradicted with what you actually have with Walsh at M7 ?? Just my opinion mate and even though I like Taranto I don’t have him personally but I would think that most of those that do have him would be hoping he has a break out season and is a keeper, not a stepping stone as you mention. Again just my thoughts mate. I do like Callum Mills and had him most of the pre season although not currently but he might find his way back in. Good luck !!

    1. I’ve decided, having listened to opinions that I value on Twitter and running a poll (over 300 votes with 2/3s positive) that it doesn’t matter where he plays, he’ll rack ‘em up!
Top draft pick, coming into his prime, new rules will suit his game and he’s underpriced relative to other top6 contenders.
      I’ve locked him in.
      Hope that helps!

  65. Hi Dalts, Unfortunately I think that it will not be possible for you to finish your side and you will run out of trades mate. Williams might be a keeper in defence but you will be lucky if you get one more out of the rest there IMO. Same goes for Brad Crouch and Libba (Crouch more likely I think) and the same again Petracca and Dahlhaus (Dahlhaus hasn’t been a keeper for a while). Mind you if those guys all end up being keepers then you’ll win $50k I reckon Dalts !! But too risky for me and I think Danger to the forward line, get rid of McGrath, either Crouch or Libba and Dahlhaus and spread that extra coin on better options. Good luck !!

      1. Hell yeah.

I would of been advising against a team like this for sure!

I do remember having something of a Doomsday Prepper Team early Jan. I think it had cheap Rucks though?

Essentially I have gone B Smith and Dunkley over

Greene and Hurn / Crisp. It actually helps my Bye structure too.

I have a back up plan for my risky picks in JOM/Steele.
        And Rocky/ B Crouch.

I just think “IF ” JOM and Rocky stay fit they are capable of finishing top 10/12 mids.

        Risk v Reward.

I’d rather not have Greene and Smith.

Setterfield at F4 and Scrimshaw at D4 sends shivers down my spine. One of those will end up being a danger move. I suspect Scrimshaw, Clark and Duursma is one rookie too many.

Like a few others a have been, I’m really worried about doing the 3 premos/3 rookies in my forward line, because it’s either gone really well or really bad. So I’ve put 4 premos in the forward.

I have $160,800 left, what upgrade should I make with the extra cash (excluding Goldstein to Grundy)? I’d rather wait until Grundy is cheaper if I need to trade him in at some point, because he’s almost certain to drop in price within the first half of the year.

Collins should be gone by then. But with Gawn, Grundy, Lloyd, Danger, Heeney you are set up structurally for bye trouble to fit a team for multiple weeks in a row.

    1. I’m not getting the mass jump back on to Fyfe because he said in the media he’s tweaked his training plan. His average is about 15 games a year.

Fingers crossed he has it sorted but an operation in the preseason ain’t promising.

  79. Hey Guys. Brutal feedback encouraged as i want to iron out any flaws you guys potentially see. I have some of my own concerns but i’ll write them after the team.

    (Pending Rookie selections)
Def: Whitfield, Crisp, Williams, Smith, Scrimshaw, Clark
    (Duursma, Burgess)
Mid: Macrae, Cripps, Oliver, Fyfe, Liberatore, Walsh, Constable, Scott
    (Butters, Atkins, Gibbons)
    Ruck: Grundy, Goldstein
    (Fort)
Fwd: Dangerfield, Heeney, Kelly, Greene, Setterfield, Drew
    (Petruccelle, Parker)
    $14,700 in the bank.

My primary concerns with the team not having Gawn/Grundy set and forget combo, and taking the risk with Greene. I could downgrade Greene to a rookie and Goldy up to Gawn but i can’t seem to find any fwd rookies i like and don’t want to go near moore based predominantly off previous injury history.

    1. Goldy had an off year last year with injury and personal issues. I see him as probably #3 ruck, but with less risk than Grundy (injury, and Beams as an extra mid) and Gawn (off season trades, Preuss) and a favourable bye.

Given the around $150k saving, and the bye, I’m sticking with Goldy unless I have trades up my sleeve at Goldy’s bye AND he’s way off the pace.

    2. My biggest doubts are scrimshaw. Hawthorn are not kind to rookies, look at Cousins’ progression. Plenty of people giving negative feedback about his effort, coach included.

Some people just look like lazy runners but cover the ground well. I don’t know, I’ve been very busy in the offseason and didn’t see any jlt action.

Mid: Oliver, Neale, Coniglio, D. Martin, M. Crouch, Liberatore, Walsh, Butters (Constable, B. Scott, Gibbons)

  81. Hi everyone, been watching afl for 4 years since i arrived in this glorious country! Obviously my knowledge isnt as great as all you guys but i would appreciate any feedback on my first ever SC team. Avid reader of the site but sometimes theres just too much information for my little brain and I’m sick of tweaking it every 2 minutes, so here goes

Whitfield, Z. Williams, A. McGrath, Smith, Ridley, Clark (Duursma, Hore)

Cripps, Coniglio, Brayshaw, Sheed, Libba, Cousins, Walsh, Butters (Drew, Atkins, Gibbons)

    Grundy, Gawn (Sweet)

Dangerfield, Heeney, Dunkley, Greene, L. McCarthy, Weideman (Setterfield, Burgess)

I’m not sure how best to balance the team and where to strengthen as I’m not entirely sure whats most important to final lineup. Look forward to your responses

    1. Looks pretty good mate, but you might be taking a couple too many risks. A few thoughts:
If you’re starting Drew put him FWD. Need all the FWD rookies you can get. You can always swing him back later when you start trading to utilise his dpp. If you put him in for Greene (most risky from an injury perspective in my opinion) you can then turn Cousins and Libba into a genuine GUN and ANO rookie.
Your other risky picks don’t have such bad injury history and if they’re good picks, should serve you very well.
Hope that helps and best of luck in 2019 😉

      1. I wasn’t looking to start Drew, my thinking was to have my bench players as rookies that will increase in value so that I can change things after a few rounds. Conversely my starting lineup was along the lines of players that will play and score points more than rookies that will increase in price but not see as much game time.

To be honest I most concerned about the midfield as it’s a premo light because of F3-F6 being 350-200k. Do you think it’d be better to drop one or two for drew? What positions tend to make the most points historically?

I’m not seeing McGrath in a lot of teams, is this is a mistake on my part? I figure if defender is playing mid he’ll score more points?

        1. Happy reading!

Right. Your RUCs and MIDs and Dangerfield are gonna give you most points. Yours are fine. The trick is to find ALL the players FIRST who are hopefully gonna make you a min. $150k EACH. These are your bargains.
This year there are a LOT less cheap, good ones than usual. I THINK the best ones (in order) are likely to be:
if there name is in brackets, they may not start AND/or don’t have great JS (job security) so if they’re named, be CAREFUL. The other have comparatively better JS, and can/should be picked IF named:
DEF: Duursma, Clark, (Watson. Cumming, McInerney, Scrimshaw), Collins, Hore and Ridley.
MIDs: (Constable), Scott, Butters, (Golds), Walsh, (Hately), Atkins, (Chayce Jones, Liberatore) and Gibbons may struggle to make $140k, but is a VERY SAFE pick.
RUC: lock in Bines (FWD/RUC) – will explain why later
FWD: Setterfield, Drew, (Bolta), Petruccelle, Darcy Moore* and Parker.
          * he is injury-prone and is a risk, BUT he has DEF/FWD positional status as does Burgess (who’s like Gibbons but will make even less!) I’ll leave that call to you, but I’m picking neither (35%+ ARE picking them because they fear their injury-risk and lack of $$s is outweighed by the flexibility it gives them, having one at either and and being able to switch them if necessary. (Might be talking myself into it here!). My view is that I don’t feel I MUST take the risk because there are enough safer picks available.
Depends how many risks you want to take, but in order of risk/reward, they are (least first):
          Dom Sheed
          Brodie Smith
          Zac Williams
          Tom Liberatore, and
          Moore&Burgess (riskiest)

Leave your premos for now. Delete all the other players. Pick your rookies. Pick your bargain/risks, leaving a hole in the MIDs. You should have enough for the premo of your choice. If not, either buy what you can afford that you like OR (less favourably) reshuffle your risky picks until you can!
          Hope that helps.
Good luck in your first season 😉

          1

          1. Your other final option is to shuffle a premo or two to fit within the $$s available, but DO NOT COMPROMISE! 😉

          2. Bines isn’t the be all and end all. Ignoring the byes when everyone gets loopholes, Geelong get one first round match and there are two clear Captain options then anyway, so barring injury you should do ok with Schlensog. Plus, if you are forced into a ruck by your loophole the default is Danger which is pretty safe.

Bines on the other hand is first twice.

Freo give the best loophole options as far as game times. Tobe Watson has dpp and this lets you combine captain AND emergency loopholing… something you cannot do with a ruck donut.

Just be warned, this can sometimes mean you have to choose between emergency loophole and captain loophole.

    1. 3 possible changes I foresee before R1 kickoff:-
Scott to either Atkins or Bewley (dependent on naming)

Bines to Schlensog (despite Geelong playing earlier more often, WC plays first twice, Geelong once, and they work out better for me for VC options)

Petrucelle to Drew (already named 3rd year player)

      1. It’s certainly got a dose of midprice madness, but with some serious risks on the rookies job security I decided to take a slightly different path.

I won’t be found wanting when they line up for bravery this year.

  83. Current line up subject to change and dependant on rookie selections with the most likely changes of premiums/midpricers involving the spots of J Kelly, L Whitfield, J Darling with C Oliver/P Cripps, H Andrews and D Mundy/J Dunkley.

    Def: R Laird, L Whitfield, Z Williams, D Moore, S Collins, J Scrimshaw, (J Clark, M Hore)

    Mid: N Fyfe, J Kelly, L Neale, Z Merrett, R Sloane, S Walsh, Z Butters, C Constable, (B Scott, T Atkins, M Gibbons)

    Ruck: B Grundy, T Goldstein, (P Bines)

    Fwd: P Dangerfield, I Heeney, J Darling, T Greene, W Setterfield, W Drew, (C Burgess, M Parker)

    Remaining salary: 4300

    1. Biggest concern is the massive hole the byes punch in your def. If that doesn’t matter to you it looks great.

Second biggest is your top 5 mids.
Injury, Injury, Club Change, Underperforming, Tag.

Kelly and Neale I think are solid, so long as Kelly is fit. He burned me badly last year.

      1. Thanks Harbour Heroes. Should be able to compensate on other lines for the RD14 bye and the only players that will make their way in from the RD14 teams are P Cripps and K Simpson which would both likely be after the bye.

I’m not too worried about N Fyfe as his opening fixture is very favourable and the injury aspect has been part and parcel for the past several years and I’d rather start him, than upgrade to him or not select him at all.

In regards to J Kelly if J Scrimshaw is not named then I’ll likely bring Oliver in (currently $500 off him) but it will be hard to part with J Kelly as he’s my favourite player in the comp as well as possessing one of the highest ceilings in conjunction with only scoring below 90 in 4 of the past 36 matches with 3 occurring last season.

Historically Neale’s safe for a 110 avg at 22 games which hopefully continues or improves at his new club and Sloane and Merrett both have multiple seasons averaging 107+ which I’d be extremely satisfied with at their price if the play 21-22 games with the aim that they end up as my M7 and M8 or even M8 and M9 near the end of the season.

        Good luck for SC2019.

        1. Thanks mate.

Kelly looked a star and despite his injury issues last year is still a gun. Came back with a bloody good average despite completely ruining my season last year. He’s in my AFL fantasy team.

Neale I’m comfortable with and the Lions are on the improve. He’s done enough without Fyfe and tbh the 2019 Lions look better than Freo, with or without Fyfe imho.

Merrett I think is still selling on his one lone hand year in the midfield. He could be the biggest beneficiary of Thymosin Beta 4 out of the whole Essendon lineup. Extra competition in the midfield will not favour his scoring I think.

Sloane? Will make some absolutely massive scores, probably 2 weeks straight, then he’s going to get tagged and it will all turn to dust. He’ll pop up again against teams without recognized taggers and get a reasonable average.

I still don’t know if it’s him or Zorko who is the easiest premo to tag in the league, but I’ve been burned badly by both, worse by Sloane though.

          Best of luck for 2019.

          2

          1. Thanks.

It will be interesting to see if Merrett is positively or negatively affected by the addition of Shiel and his interrupted preseason but the main allure is excluding his injury affected game last season he has averaged 108.39 from his last 64 matches.

Also before 2018 he had 47 consecutive games equalling or exceeding 20 disposals and 4 of his last 60 matches were below 20 disposals until he recorded 4 matches between RD1 and RD8 in 2018 below 20 disposals.

In regards to Sloane the main factor is his injury discount as it was the first time since 2011 he didn’t average 105+ and with their/his favourable start I’m willing to ride the ups and downs.

            2

            0
            1. It’s interesting how much of the focus is on Sloane getting tagged, and therefore is unselectable. Rory started getting tagged in 2012, and his season averages since then read 106, 107, 115, 105, 108, 110 and 97. The 97 average last year was primarily due to the Lisfranc injury.
Other factors worth considering include that injury permitting, this will be the first season he has had both Crouch brothers alongside him, as well as the effect of the 6-6-6 rule on centre bounces. I think both of these changes are going to help him and at his price, he’s an excellent selection IMO.

              1

              0
              1. Sloane’s been locked in for roughly the past 4 months and I don’t think he has moved once. It’s quite laughable watching everyone quickly dismiss him due to the tag concerns as before that his scoring has always been volatile as he lacks those 95-110 games but compensates with the amount of 120+’s.

If there ever was a time to start him it’s this season. Discounted price, dream fixture due to his record at AO, 6 consecutive years prior to injury averaging 105+ with 5/6 seasons playing 21+ matches.

Could be concerns as I’m not sure if B Gibbs, R Sloane, B Crouch and M Crouch have all played together but if he manages 20+ games then a pass mark at his price would be 105+ which I’d be extremely satisfied with. Also could be utilised late in season as a M8 or M9.

    1. Hey Dermot, check Huttabito’s rookie reviews for the best of the crop, especially in the backline.
Looks solid otherwise, I think Lobb will disappoint you though and there are better options around his price.

    1. Spend some of that cash in the backline, Woody. There’s a few too many speculative picks there, pick the one you feel least confident about and turn him into a bonafide premium.

I’d love another premo back there but just can’t trust any of them! Even Whitfield concerns me (the least) a little.
Am v tempted by Salem to be honest!
If another decent-looking cow turns up I might yet be rid of them. Duursma (named but JS) and Scrimshaw maybe? Looked at it all for so long now it’s all just a bluuurr 😉
