  1. With the season reduced down to 17 rounds, it looks unlikely that any of us will be able to get to a genuinely “full premo” side.

So, here’s my coronavirus impacted team:

DEF: Lloyd, Houston, Docherty, Noble, Ash, BZT [Starcevich, Brander]

MID: Macrae, Neale, Cripps, Dunkley, Rowell, Green, Pickett, Robertson [loophole, Hibberd, Budarick]

    RUC: Grundy, Gawn [Naismith]

FWD: Whitfield, Petracca, Smith, Steven, Long, Taylor [Cameron, Georgiades]

Have sacrificed my 5th MID premo in order to bring in 2 extra mid-pricers and Naismith. Thinking is a Steven becomes at keeper at F4, Long will score better than a rookie and becomes a nice stepping stone and Naismith generates some much needed cash.

    Thoughts?

    1. Like it, just sucks you can’t get the points on field from Naismith. Think dropping the 5th premo mid is probably the way to go now.

      1. Yeah, Robbie, looks like it. Hate to do it, but a traditional structure won’t cut it this year. Naismith at R3 is less than ideal, but where else are we going to generate cash?

        Ugh.

    2. Love the Naismith pick. With games played close to each other, rucking solo will be tough. Back up is great. But are you having too much money on the bench ?
Also you are ballsy to drop a premium for few mid priced. A part from that, few mid priced who hopefully don’t get stuck in mid price

    3. Hey GD,

Def looks solid; Mids selection good but 4&4 challenges me; Ruc set and forget (I like the inclusion of Naismith); Fwd can’t bring myself to bring in Petracca despite the promise of more time in the mids.

My only question which you may be better placed to answer, is how many points will you be giving up initially against teams with a deeper midfield?

My thoughts only, thanks for sharing your team

    1. Hi Nick, the biggest points scorers are in midfield and you didn’t pick many of these. You may generate cash but you’ll run out of trades as many won’t be keepers.

      1. So are you saying bont or congilio or Merrett I beg to d8ffer brad hill will be right up there this year. Why are you saying this as I have n9 f7fe danger please. As much as I lov3 danger guys is no longer a supeercoach stud. Cripps get over it guys done noth8ng much last few years for supeercoach coach’s. What about Grundy or goldie both of them can score 170 plus. Jack Steven watch him go of this year and Greenwood. What about Devon Smith. Or dusty. Then my back line is amazing every player then can s ore over 130 plus. So mate since you seem to know everything you don’t really. Only punt I am taking is brad hill but he will be a jett this year. If your going really say something d9nt as you don’t know anything. I bet you my team this year be higer or in top ten then yours. Are u haveing crack as there’s no Whitefield again he won’t be a huge scoring machine like last year. L neale can get over 150 to 170.

        1. Sounds like you’ve got it all figured out, Nick.

Makes one wonder why you’re here asking for feedback…

Honest feedback if you’re prepared to take it maturely:

Backline is very solid, bats deep, but you may be missing out on some good cash generation given there are a number of decent rookies available there too. No Noble, Ash, Zerk-Thatcher, Williams, Brander?

Midfield is perhaps a little “too POD”. In isolation, I have no issue with the selection of Cogs, Merrett and Hill. But to start all three, and not have any of Macrae, Dunkley, Cripps, Kelly, Fyfe, Danger – seems overly risky. Still, it could pay off if they all fire early, so trust your gut if you must. Perhaps goes without saying, but keep a close eye on selection as I’m not sure any of your mid bench rookies start R1.

No issue with the rucks. Haven’t taken any of the three you’ve got, but there’s a few valid schools of thought this year.

Forward line is OK, bar the fact that Steven is a confirmed out for R1. Will need to find an alternative there.

Final word of advice – I’ve given you this feedback despite your, frankly, shithouse response to Jeannot. Leave the ego and arrogance at the door, and accept that if you want to post on this site you’re going to have people offer viewpoints that conflict with yours. It’s a great community here, do your bit to contribute to it rather than putting yourself above it.

    1. Phil you just have too many expensive rookies /mid pricers :Roberton , Noble, Ash, Zerk, Rowell, Green, English, long, Crocker… that leaves you with less than 10 genuine keepers…that’s risky. I understand you are making up for the lack of rookies but don’t lose sight of reaching full premo.
Maybe increase your keepers to at least 12?

  10. G’day all, made a few small changes to my team posted last thread:

Def: Laird, Houston, Docherty, Noble, Zerk-Thatcher, Brander (Williams, Gould)

Mid: Macrae, Neale, Cripps, Dunkley, Oliver, Rowell, Green, Pickett (Robertson, McHenry, Budarick)

    Ruck: Grundy, Naismith (Xerri)

Fwd: Whitfield, Martin, Petracca, Steven, Smith, Taylor (Rankine, King)

    > In defense I have gone cold on Roberton mainly due to Long taking his role and downgraded him to Williams.
    > Using All Saints advice on not leaving a chunk of cash over, with the left over cash I previously had and the cash gained on Roberton I have added Petracca for Starceivich via Brander. However still tossing between switching him to Ceglar to reduce the risk of Naismith by using Ceglar as cover.
    > Overall I feel I have evaded fielding many rookies with only 5 players under 200k on field, with there not being many rookies this year with high scoring potential.

    Would love some new feedback

So, just going to ignore all this virus stuff in regards to player selection.

Felt I had to carve up Danger into Doch and smith, if they go really well that would suck for me. Rowell should score within 20 of danger on average most weeks.

    1. Hey Adam,

I think you probably need another mid-priced player in the fwds as you won’t be able to count on all of those rookies to play.

Not sure how you bank is but Long is a good option at 280k rebound def, but a fwd in SC also cheaper than the other mid pricers.

Other than that side looks solid, end of the day if you like the structure of your team then go with it.

  22. Just wondering TU or TD on this one.
Because there are no byes does that mean we should not have that many rookies on the bench as we don’t them as emergencies for the bye rounds?????
Also, would fewer rookies on the field be better as they wouldn’t reach enough money to trade out in the season as it is severely shorter? (Remember supercoach finals are rounds 14-17 so the actual season for supercoach is rounds 1-13.)

Obviously have way too much in the bank but I’m not sure what to do with it. Including Smith as a keeper, I have 13 starting keepers with $4,800 in the bank. The issue is with rookies, as I would prefer to have another mid-priced forward such as Brayshaw playing, but I don’t know how to move the cash around to get him in.

    1. Like Walsh last year, he’ll play whenever available, will play in the middle, and will win/demand the ball. Shorter games potentially helps him even more than it would have Walsh, as Sam’s game is built on his fantastic aerobic base. Rowell’s is good too, not quite as good, but he’s got a more mature frame for stoppage work.

      Can see him averaging 80+.

    1. Classic Guns’n’Rookies, and if that turns out to be the best approach this year the team is solid. Despite being the top scoring/averaging defender last year, Lloyd is only in 26% of teams, might give you a leg up. I don’t like Laird, but that’s personal preference and I can’t offer any statistical evidence to support it (gut feel only). Mids are great, pending rookie selections. Rucks, yep. Maybe a little light on in the forward line, but worst case you can swing Brander forward to replace a forward rookie with a defender that gets named.

That being said – I’m sceptical that the G’n’R strategy is the way to go in 2020. Reduced games, reduced gametime, shorter turnarounds, possible extended benches – it all points towards a more mid-priced approach this year in my opinion.

Waiting patiently to see if anything is announced as far as trades are concerned, as that’s the biggest factor – 30 trades in 17 rounds means we can trade aggressively, and can afford to start some riskier midprice players for early points, and downgrade the poorer performers from that lot to bubble rookies if/as they present. Reduced trade numbers means you probably need to start midpricers and plan to keep some of them all year – very hard to manage 9 rookie upgrades in 17 weeks with only 20 trades considering rookie appreciation may be stunted.

  32. We still get 30 trades
Prices will change after 2 rounds
League sizes stay the same(10 and 18)
League finals- week 14 to 17
If 17 rounds completed all prizes are won.

    1. Fascinating.

So if the aim is to have a “full” team by the first final…

You’ve got 13 weeks worth of trades in which to do it. Means you can’t run out of trades before finals – guaranteed to have 4 left. No reason not to make 2 trades a week unless your team is absolutely humming. Plenty of reason to jump on anyone who goes laaaaarge in week one.

    1. Tossing up between this or Ash / Woodcock out for Starcevich / Taylor
This gives more bench cover with more money (56k) which makes more sense to me

  35. Hey guys, not too unhappy with this team – 2 main toss ups are with the Kellys:

DEF: Laird, Houston, Docherty, Roberton, Noble, Starcevich (Rivers, Gould)

Not sure whether to keep T.Kelly or go Clayton

  36. Hey Coaches,

Really don’t know what this season holds, changed my structure a ton to suit more mid-pricers due to shorter season. Here we go

Houston, B.Smith, Doch, Noble, BZT, Brander (Starcevich, Williams)

Macrae, Neale, Cripps, Dunkley, Cogs, McCluggage, Rowell, Pickett
    (Robertson, Budarick, Mahoney)

    Grundy, Jacobs (Comben

Macpherson, T.Lynch, Brayshaw, Steven, D.Smith, Taylor (Rankine, King)

Never had a team with so many mid-pricers but we’ll see how we go

  38. Constant changes today, and when the teams drop it’ll probably all change again.

DEF: Sicily, Houston, Doc, Roberton, Noble, Ash (Zerk, Williams)
MID: Macrae, Cripps, Dunk, Bont, Cogs, Rowell, Green, Pickett (Starc, Sharp, Budarick)
    RUC: Grundy, Jacobs (Xerri)
FWD: Whitfield, Dusty, Petracca, Smith, Brander, Taylor (Rankine, King)

Happy with the backline. Intrigued by Jayden Short, but tough to get him in for Robbo, and downgrading one of the others to him doesn’t seem to allow anything meaningful elsewhere.

Mids…hmm. I can’t split the three Doggies. Feel like if one of them goes it’s Macrae, due to price and preseason form (for what that’s worth). Think he’s the least “impactful” of the trio as well, which may be factor in shortened games? Not settled on this at all.

Rucks. Man, I’d love the Grundy/Gawn combo, but I’m positive this is not the year to do it. Such a big investment when we’re going to be struggling to get full premo by year’s end. Grundy wins out given he gets around the ground and wins the ball, and if either of them are going to be managed with short turnaround times it’s Gawn.

Forwards are OK enough, I reckon. Top shelf scorers, some solid enough midprice options, and I think there will be just enough rookies to make it work.

    1. looks great mate. weirdly, i’m also questioning my JMac pick for the first time EVER!
hmmm. i really think i might dump him?! you?

      0
      1. Honestly, I have no idea! Part of me is terrified that if I drop him he’ll probably go on to average 130+ for the first month of the season. But on the other hand, downgrading him to a genuine midpricer, or even another rookie, potentially means significant upgrades on other lines.

        Macrae to rookie = 125 vs. 65
        Jacobs to Gawn = 85 vs. 125
        Ash to Brayshaw = 65 vs. 85

Points are probably very similar, but an 85 avg. from Brayshaw is probably enough to be top 10-15 in the forward stocks and I’ve already got Whitfield and Martin, while an 85 avg. from Jacobs is giving up a lot to those who have both Grundy and Gawn.

Given the trading situation (can do two trades every week and still have 4 come finals) I’ll probably hold Macrae for now given he seems a safer choice than Gawn. If Gawn goes stupid big against WC, and Macrae has a quiet one against Collingwood (and if I don’t have any other pressing concerns), I may look at a corrective swap in R2.

          1. New info – thinking it might be Macrae out for Neale. Decision has come about whilst considering my captaincy options. Less premos, more mid-pricers this year, and having three elite scorers from the same side makes it much harder to a) decide which to back each week, and b) manipulate the loophole strategy.

            My captaincy options were:
            Cripps/Martin as VC into Grundy/Whitfield/Cogs/3xDogs
or Grundy as VC into Whitfield/Cogs/3xDogs

Limited. In any given week, I’d have 5 players tied up in two games (and five players in one game in round 3). Neale helps spread the load a bit, that little bit more flexibility.

Macrae to Neale shouldn’t impact scoring too much, but gives me

  39. Pretty stoked the AFL season is going to kick on!

  56. Gametime Decision

Fyfe came up big last year for me and thinking with the shorter quarters, he’ll be used more through the middle, despite what is said almost every preseason (going fwd). Currently I have all 3 bulldogs in the midfield and enough funds to swap one for Fyfe.

THUMBS UP – T.Green M8, Pickett (bench with emergency), T.Brown playing but on bench. (I like him)

THUMBS DOWN – N.Mchenry M8, (not playing) Pickett (bench with emergency), T.Green on bench to take Picketts points.

In other words, do I risk that Green will get somewhere near to Picketts 94 pts. to keep Brown in my side, or do I switch Mchenry in for Brown, put Mchenry in at M8 with Green on the bench to get Picketts 94pts. Budarick other mid and no spare cash without changing team list. Not an option. Your thoughts Ladies and Gentlemen.

  67. Spare a thought for Jackson Hately this weekend. He scored 129 & 92 points in the preseason games at only 74% average game time and still gets beaten by a first year player for a gig. That coupled with the fact that he also showed potential last year when given the opportunity as well. Fell away a bit at the end of the year but you can’t blame him when you don’t get a game. A bit of pressure on Tom Green? You bet. Probably be a start up first 18 player in 10 clubs atm! The depth of GWS. No wonder they struggle to hold their players. As a swans supporter from Tassie, they couldn’t hear me yelling NNNNOOOOO! Don’t trade Tom Mitchell, take Hanners instead. Even I could see how good that boy was going to be. Anyone here see that as well? Anyway, just airing my thoughts. All the best everyone for the weekend, and enjoy the games in peace and quiet.

      19d, 37hit outs 2goals at 20% reduced.

Bigger manhandling than Anthony Rocca vs Zac Dawson

Need more hand sanitiser…..has been manhandled during a Covid-19 outbreak…

Backed it up with even better 2019 season. Thats Ablett Snr, Jnr,

  68. Didnt pick my team, start researching seriously till 3am wed morning. Went bed woke up, spent 13hrs, literally from 1pm to 2pm fiddling with side.

For majority had Grundy Sauce as offers so much value, great tap ruck, GWS stock full of eager receivers. So im expecting 90 to 125 range from Sauce which is great value.

Anyway i wasnt gettn like for like swapping Gawn, i really wanted Viney as looked at him 3yr ago when hitting big numbers in SC mid gravy zones.
    Cont Poss
    Tackles
    Clearances.

Had his best pre season? As did Petracca, he is fit as frrk…. Shredded.

They all thrived under Darren Burgess The Weapon…

    STRUCTURE
To cut a long story short, having M6 felt wasteful/imbalanced structure. I loved my side it gave me great value (Neale, Macrae, Titch, Dunk) and turned Oliver into Viney, M.Crouch.

    NO GAWN???

So few a few more hrs im deliberating Sauce or Maxy???

im looking at Gawn, think 19 x 100+ plus last year, was given Cpt after inj knee AND it wasnt the same knee has done twice. This is hype. He good to go.

Lotta folk espesh in DT taking Sauce, 4th most pop ruck
But age, and as happened to English last night everytime he plays Gawn Grundy he gets smashed. Theyre too sttong. I think Gawn has 10kg on Sauce.

So Thurs game arrived, well….I went passed lockout as 1 player short, had $75k…?

Had Dusty and Cripps outta my side. So missed those two.

So more bleeding hours, scouring over some indicator Player X good to go?
But i think was worth it. The final piece of the puzzle was Jeremy Howe at D3 instead of Houston.

    Jezza in top form since rnd 18 last year. 90, 84, 100, 106, 58, 113, 136, and 127 in Marsh

Turned up this yr, valued at 77ppg, should go 93 to 99.

    Looks heaps settled.

    156 is a great start ❤

SC crashed just before bounce, VC Grundy got reverted back to pre crash, Macrae. So was spewing but footys back, Pies look disciplined, Howe went Ham.

So yesterday, i finally finished, The Saltshakers 2020 after 2day research select team headsmash….the struggle is real…❤

DEF: Laird, Docherty, Howe, Noble, Guthrie, ZerkB, (Starcevich, Brander)

Mid: Neale, Macrae, Dunkley, Oliver, Conigs, Rowell, Green, M.Pickett (T.Brown, McInerney, Budarick)

    Ruck: Grundy Gawn (Conroy)

Fwds: Whitfield, Petracca, Brayshaw, D.Smith, Taylor, Cavarra (King, Sturt)

    $10k left

    1. Jack Steven ruined everything…not starting rnd 1 forced hours of extra sweat

Cant believe SC bloody got me again…..once you start looking, researching, CBAs, big pre season, new role, age, past scoring trend stats etc youre bloody screwed

If ya do something gotta do it right…

Anyways what a mind bending sesh that was….

      Bring on 2020

Unlucky….Roberton, Cummings, Sicily, Viney, Titch, Sauce,

But essentially Viney was the one i wanted on value. Cumming is a gun, im gonna try get before bubble. Houston too much unknown about scoring potential only that will improve. Machperson, dont know enough about his game, how consistent.

Petraccas fitness trimmer musclier physique and CBAs sold me its his year.

Hugh McLuggage is all class, havent seen anyone as smooth around goals, aware of goals, finishing skills since Darren Jarmen. Gonna be a player…
