Rate My Team – Pre-Season 2011

by Duck on February 21, 2011

We’ve had a few discussions on how to handle the “here’s my team, tell me what you think” issue that’s popping it’s head up in the comments of some posts and this is how we think we’ll handle it.

Each week i’ll create a post like this one and it will remain a sticky, meaning it will be the first post on the site, others throughout the week will appear after it so don’t forget to scroll down when you land on the front page of the site, there’s likely to be new stuff below this one.

This way, hopefully, all rate my team requests can be handled within this post and when you’re reading other posts there’s a good likelihood the comments will be relative to that post.

We certainly don’t want to discourage the great discussions we’re getting on the site, we’re just trying to manage them a little better.

So, if you want to throw your updated team out there for review then do so in the Rate My Team post each week and get ready for the constructive critism. Sound fair?

P.S -  You wouldn’t trade places with Ricky Nixon right now would you??

just gotta be careful that then your bench players are likely to play so you don’t cop a big fat 0. i went for a strongish bench for that reason to avoid copping 0′s. talia and richardson may drop in and out of the team

Before I ask for my team to be rated I’d like to ask for some advice for the final position in my forward line. I think I’ve nailed it down to Higgins and Brennan both same price and ave. In the past I haven’t like Brennan but being at the gold coast I think he’ll be mostly midfield and ave 90+ any thoughts or even a poll?

I’ve been a Higgins man the last few years, he has disappointed me with injury and no sooner have i gotten rid of him he gets fit and is back to his usual good self. I’d be leaning towards Brennan myself if it was only those 2 in contention.

Tough one Bill, both have been Supercoach disappointments for mine and personally would steer clear… Higgins by all accounts was impressive yesterday and has had his biggest pre season in ages (but who hasn’t) so I would lean towards him. Brennan is the type of guy who I reckon will drop his bundle a bit if GC are getting beaten a classic down hill skier I reckon.

Higgins is the more reliable scorer, if he stays fit.
Brennan will get you 130 odd on one week and 50 on another.
I prefer Higgins myself.

I don’t want to give away too much with questionable types from SCT League 2 hanging around. However I’ve got a few details from the team, to give you an idea of what I’m going for.

Pricing:
$450+ = 13
$200 and less = 18

D/M = 5
M/F = 7
2 of each in the midfield

5 GC Suns

I didn’t anticipate this many DPP’s, but it should work out nicely. I’m also avoiding premiums from teams with byes in finals except for the obvious Mr Gibbs, and holding off on those with two early byes.

Constructive criticisms please!

I think it could be risky to avoid players just because their team have byes in the finals. I understand why, but all of a sudden, Chappy, Selwood, Bartel, Watson etc become unique picks… and a guy like Varcoe who could become a premium will be missed. Maybe when you’re flipping a coin between 2 players, then that could be a deciding factor, but to exclude 4 teams sounds crazy to me.

RUCK: sandi,cox (smith, derickx)

I see you’re taking the punt on the midfield, no problem with that. 3 rookies, and Higgins may prove winners. But I’m not sure where you’ve spent the money. Only 36k in the bank doens’t seem enough.

Dids is recovering from injury, isn’t he? You may want to target about round 5.

IMO, there’s too much risk. Too many middle of the road players. Some may work, but not all (from my experience). Try and get another premium up forward.

I was pretty certain I was gonna go 3 premium & 3 rookies in the midfield, but all of a sudden I’m asking myself this:

Do I keep Mzungu in the middle as a 3rd rookie and therefore have Pavlich up forward.

OR,

Dump Pavlich for Mzungu as a starting forward & slot Boyd into the middle as a 4th prem????

I’m very undecided.

Def: 6/10. solid, but not the best I’ve seen. Gilbee, Gilbert and shepperd all have ?`s against them.
Mids: 9/10. Super midfield. Higgins is starting to lose his ?, and could find him in my team too.
Rucks: 3/10. Very weak. Need to try and get Sandi or Cox in there or both. Maybe you need to downgrade a midfielder to 1 of many that will skyrocket. Consider starting Swallow on the ground. I think most coaches will.
Frwds: 7.5/10. A reasonable group.

Overall: 7.5/10. About 10 100+ players there, but I think you can get more in there.

Roo Bloke’s Mob
DEF: Goddard, Gibbs, Broughton, Grimes, Otten, R. Tarrant, Heppell [Coad, Toy, Lester]
MID: Swan, Selwood, Hodge, A. Swallow, D. Swallow, Harris [I. Smith, Hibberd, Wallis]
RUCK: Sandilands, Jolly [Z. Smith, Campbell]
FWD: N. Riewoldt, Franklin, J. Brown, O’Keefe, Dangerfield, Krakouer, Gamble [Matera, Richardson, Mzungu]

By my calculations i’ve got 100[ish]+ scores from 3-4 defs, 6 mids, 2 rucks, 3-5 fwds.

I’m sure i’ll change it many times over the upcoming weeks. Still need to 100% nut out they byes and also my DPP’s.

I think your mids are fine but your Def is compromised by your Fwds on balance (two starting rookies vs none.)

Swallow and Harris will be 2nd and 3rd top scorers at GC in ’11 behind GAJ and i am confident that they will be 100ish pts scorers pretty quickly.

Astute point about my fwd vs def. Might downgrade a fwd to create cash to sure up my def. Any ideas Deano?? I know there’s big wraps on Krakouer but he didn’t impress me in the Collingwood NAB cup game.

I think everyone’s backline is very similar, although you have 2 starting rookies. I don’t mind your mids, although I don’t think Matera will be a big supercoach scorer. And I’m unseure if Brown (a favorite of mine) will reach the form he started in last season before injury as his groin have been damaged a few times now.

[MID – Gaff(WC) – Polec(BL) – Hibberd(ESS)

Great to have you aboard C – do you support the Saints?
Make sure you join the SCT girls’ league on the site along with all the others such as PA et al.
For your team I offer the following CONSTRUCTIVE advice:
Fwds: I’m an avid WCE supporter but stay away from The Big Unit and while we’re at it, leave the Dick alone (no pun intended!)
Rucks: Very good – set and forget however I’d get Zac (GCS) in as Res;
Mids: 1st 3 are great however I’d convert Jack and Matt into a premium/rookie combination (such as Montagna/Heppell) and swap Heppell with Hibberd in your backline;
Def: Excellent however I would strongly consider Delidio for Drummond/Wood and another class rookie such as Toy.
Overall a great effort. I suggest though you look at other teams and the nab SC results to get the right bench rookies as you need to have Richardson, Callinan, I Smith thereabouts in your calculations.
I’m sure Motts will offer his valuable input for you tomorrow as he gets all fuzzy-wuzzy when there’s some new female talent on the books so good luck with the season.

Can you give us a heads up on the progress of Jordan Russell – I am considering him at D4 as a keeper particularly if he takes up more of the Scotland role running off HB.

Thanks Deano, yes avid follower of the Saints…
Just quick reply as I have to get my kiddies off to school.
Yes was doubful over Lynch and Dick to say the least (!!)
Def want Joey Montagna in my team… was wondering how I could fit him in there last year against Adel he got 38 possesions and 5 goals, he’s a star.
Was also considering Deliudeo (sorry bad spelling, I am in a rush!) however I had a few Richmond in there at the time, ummed and ahhed about it….
Thanks so much!! Can’t wait to hear what others think.

your forward line could be an issue with injuries and midpricers. read higgins, morton, gray

Also I would question having petrie on you bench in the rucks. suspended round 1, bye round 3.

I’d be tempted to downgrade a back and put otten on the field. and use the cash saved for upgrading.

Would love it if someone could reate my team and let me know what they think… I’ve been watching my boyfriend for 2 years this is my first year :)
Shhhh I dont want him to find out how I am going.

B- Goddard, Bruce, Delidio, Hurn, Obrien, Otten, Tarrant (Nth)
…Puopolo, Duigan, Stanley (GC)

M- Hodge, Bartel, Swallow + Swallow, Gibbs, Krakour
… Heppel, Harris, Wallis (WB)

R- Sex on the beach (HAHAHAHA)
… Petrie, Derickx

F- Cock Shot, Franklin, Delish, Zaharakis, Gamble, Stanley (Stk), Mzungu
… Matera, Butcher, Callinan

I still have 79,000 in the bank.

CONCERNS:
Maybe I need one more premium?

Too many Saints (However I do intend to upgrade Stanley or Petrie depending on who performs better)

My bench, can I have too many rookies?

“Cock Shot” – HA! Dal Santo is a midfielder though.

Can’t find too much wrong with it Lucy. I reckon Cam Bruce is done but he could prove me wrong. Good flexibility. Agree with gg below tho – you could use another premium.

If I was you, I’d switch Hep into your backline for Bruce, grab another rook in your midfield, and upgrade one of your mid-price forwards. I know it screws with your Fwd/Ruck DPP thang but Stanley does not deserve an on-field spot.

Hope you take down your guy.

Firstly, I wouldn’t have Tarrant as your captain ;)

3 GC players in the midfield will put some pressure on for 1st and 9th rounds.

Tarrant, ROK and Petrie all have big ? on them now. Petrie misses 2 out of the 1st five. Tarrant and ROK could be going backwards in SC scores.

Anyone have any comments about having both Riewoldt’s in my team or it doesn’t really matter because, after all, they do play for different on-field teams. I think Roo will play well of course but I’m not convinced he will be the same as he was, players once they do their hamstring seem to loose confidence.. look at Hirdy, he was plauged by that hammy… meh… maybe I should not count my chickens before they hatch.
Spoke to Sammy Gilbert last week and they definately want him up forward this year, he did miss quite a few at training last week though he did admit.
Sorry I’m so saints focussed, but I don’t watch all that many games other than my own team as I don’t have time with young kiddies to look after.

Gday guys, 1st up congrats on a fantastic site! I’ve learned quite a bit from reading the comments & suggestions on here. I’ve added my current team line up below for your perusal – i don’t mind whether anyone comments on it or not, I’m just happy to contribute. I’m fairly happy with my team but one concern I do have with my squad however is my choice of 3 Roos players in my squad – 2 starting forwards (Harvey & Richardson) & Petrie on the ruck bench. Knowing that North has a bye in round 21. Having said this based on my past form with Supercoach I will have made a few trades come the end of the season.

Defenders:
Goddard, B; Gibbs, B; Broughton, G; Grimes, J; Otten, A ;Heppell; Jacobs, B (Bench: Toy; Duigan; Puopolo)

Midfielders:
Boyd; Deledio; Trengrove; A Krakouer; Foley; D Swallow
(Bench: D Harris; Muzungu; Gaff).

Ruck:

now have $13k in the bank & made loads of changes actually.
*BACKS* ok I’ve Taken Deano’s advice after weighing it up and have got rid of Hibberd. Now have Heppell in my backline, hoping he will be well worth the extra $40k (I think it was about that anyway?)
Got rid of E. Wood for R. Tarrant (averaged 98 in NAB cup)
* MIDS* N. Winmar out, P. Contin in (cheap & got 115 v Carlton and 59 v pies in NAB)
* RUCK* No changes
*FWD LINE* have got rid of lynch and Dick was unsure of them at the time anyway. Have added ones of similar ! coaster for a coaster, have added Lecras. Pie for a pie, have added Krakouer. Still a little doubtful over this?
Hill out for Richardson.
Thoughts?

Consider Hibberd for your Mid bench as he is DPP.
I think Contin is a rookie so make sure the Tiges upgrade him prior to lockout otherwise consider Callinan/I Smith/Prestia as all D/M DPPs for that possie.

Question marks over Goodes & Brown not sure about having either of them in the team let alone both. Brown has injury concerns while goodes will play more as permament forward this year.would also look at adding another premium in the backs hope this helps

Had same concerns over Goodes & Brown & will continue to look at them in the pre-seaon whilst looking for cheaper alternatives such as Zaccarius? (Ess) & Josh Kennedy (Syd) which will enable another premium defender. Like both due to them both not being affected by the bye’s, Goodes being DPP & Brown once again being main target for Brissie + hopefully fit for Rnd 1 after op end of last year. Cheers for feedback & any other thoughts would be appreciated. Andy

Scratcher, hoping you have a lot of money remaining…. you will need to upgrade a lot of players as you don’t have many premiums.

Question marks over Cheney/Tippett & not have Sandi…. Sylvia is also very hot and cold.

just like to get your opinion on a few things boys
-would you boys select a stronger midfield and backline knowing they are going to be consistent and then have a weaker forward line with only 2 guns and the rest rookies knowing forward prices fluctuate.
-what are u boys opinions on charman he could be a good 4th ruckman
-and lastly whens are the super coach leaques going to be up motts

I think it’s because this year’s rookie midfielders are of high quality and most of the rookies we’ve heard good things about all fall under the midfield rank. Everyone is filling there forwards/defenders with premiums because there aren’t too many rookies to chose from that we’ve heard good things about (excluding Heppel, Prestia, Richardson, Puopolo, McKernan, Callinan, Duigan, Mzungu and a few others)

MIDFIELD: Pendlebury, Boyd, Bartel, Thomas, Kennedy, Swallow
EM: Mzungu, D Haris, Hibberd
RUCKS: Sandilands, Jolly
EM: Fraser, Cordy
FORWARDS: Riewoltd, Rioli, Johnson, Higgins, Wilson, Vespremi, Krakour

SO WHAT DO WE ALL THINK?

Not bad Tappy.
Backs: Good, good. Can’t help but notice Goddard and Gibbs in the same possy. To utilize the DPP I would swap Gibbs into the mids instead of Thomas and get a Fisher or Duffield into the back spot. Apart from that good.
Mids: Except for that change with Thomas mids look splendid. Similar to mine ;)
Fwds: Looks good except for Wilson. Not sure on him? but hey if you’ve heard good things or if you need the DPP then stick with him. Johnson could be a very handy unique.
Overall, I like it. Just make that change with the DPP and your set.
9/10

Long time listener, first time caller….

I’m expecting the GC guys to all play and be upgradable by Rd 9, any thoughts would be appreciated?

Backs – Goddard, Gibbs, Bruce, Deledio, Broughton, Grimes, Otten (Stanley, Toy, Duigan)
Mids – Swan, Kennedy J, Higgins, Heppell, Hibberd, Mzungu (Swallow D, Harris, Iles)
Rucks – Sandilands, Cox (Smith Z, Derickx)
Forwards – Riewoldt N, Franklin, Pavlich, Rioli, Dangerfield, Krakour A, Richardson (Matera, Dixon, Callinan)

Think i’ve got 14 keepers, 4 maybes, the rest to make cash from needing to upgrade about 7 to premiums (Ablett, Lake, Hodge, Montagna, Pendlebury, Didak, + 1 more) hopefully by rd 16 depending on injuries.
Expecting the best cash can be made in the mids, they look light on but expect Harris and D Swallow to be 80-100′s p/w.

i’d say you need another middle range player to increase price. your midfield will struggle, but i do realise your backs and forwards is where you’l make that up. if you want pendlebury i say get him before he goes up. wouldn’t have 3 of your mid bench from the same team. 2 max. but good solid team. should score well. 8.5/10

got goddard, gibbs, deldio all in your backs so you can’t take advantage of the DPP. put one of those guys in your mids. ruck coverage is a bit weak. also need to make sure smith and polec play rd1 otherwise you’ll cop 0′s. i’d put mgzunu or krak in your mid. only ??? in your forward line is zarahkis. maybe dangerfield would be a better option or higgins.

I’d actually go the big Pav atm, Goodes did well last game but is Pav cheaper?? Freo are going to be one to watch this year but will prob have 2012 marked in as THE YEAR so I’d be watching Pav to be trying to put his mark on each game in the lead up (if that makes sense). Goodes has had quite a few great years, wondering if this one will be any different?? so yeah if Pav’s cheaper I would take a punt.

Pav is 483k (seemingly cheap if he can pump out 100s), with Goodes 458k (likewise). If either team gave the clear indication where they’d be playing (midfield or big marking target) it would make the decision 28167638528365163 times easier, but that’s the gamble.

Backline: Goddard, Gibbs, Deledio, Malceski, Adcock, Otten, Heppell (Toy, Duigan, Brodie Smith)

brendon goddard would be first or second pick in most super coach side , but i do questin the price tag he carries @ $633.700 and with a outstanding average of 130 points per game last year, and he is one of the most consistant performer going around …but is he really worth paying $633.700 for a 130 average that would be very hard to sustain or even better it this year ……any way supercoach gold has predicted on his breakevens averages that goddard will lose $99.300 on his value this year ..his breakevens on averages (130 ) for the first 8 rounds is ..e.g . RND 1.(130) ,RND 2.(161),RND 3 (150) ROUND 4 (BYE) RND 5(140) RND 6 (147) RND 7 (164) RND 8 (156) …. If you pick up goddard be aware his price could drop a fare bit by the end of the year, but he could still have a very healthy average, especially if he is your locked in captain … goddards averages for the past 6 years are … 2006 (106) ….2007 (90) only 7 games played …2008(108) …2009 (115 ) …2010 (130)

After a few changes this is the team i think i will go into the season with…
Backs: Goddard(c), Deledio, Grimes, Hurn, Hurley, Ottens, Heppell
Bench: Toy, Duigan, Puopolo

Midfield: Swan(vc), Gibbs, Harvey, Stanton, Kennedy, D Swallow
Bench: Gaff, Harris, Mzungu

Rucks: Sandilands, Jolly
Bench: Smith, Derickx

Forwards: N Riewoldt, Goodes, Higgins, Petterd, Zaharakis, Astbury, Krakouer
Bench: Butcher, Smith, Callinan

please feel free to praise or criticize as you see fit. there a couple players in there that i see as gambles but i think are due for breakout years ie Stanton under new coach hirdy…

Your bench rookies are great however you need to upgrade several of your onfield players to premium keepers by downgrading some of your midpricers IMO. (Catblitz however would give you a 10/10)

I currently have both of them. Even though I despise the pies both of these players are champions of the game and of supercoach.

Here is my team thus far, please help me out and tear it to shreds. I have taken the guns rookies strategy. Applying most of the guns to the midfield as thats where the big points are to be had.

Good team Dansmen. You obvoisly need to watch the two Collingwood byes as you will take a massive hit on those two rounds (4 players down). You forward line may be a little injury prone too (Rioli, Knights and Higgins). Good luck

Maybe a dangerfield veszpremi fwd line and upgrade rioil to franklin. not sure what to do there with a mid pricer and a cheap option as petrie is very injury prone too. any advice????? its very hard to resist collingwood players as you know they will be a very high scoring team this year. thanks again and good luck to you too!

Dan
Petrie had a horrid year last season however prior to that he missed 2 games in 7 years so hardly injury “prone.” Be careful not to confuse injury prone players that struggle to play anywhere near a full season (ala Drummond/Higgins) to those that had unfortunate LTIs.
Rioli looks over his OP otherwise they wouldn’t have played him in the nab so I think he is a definate Fwd keeper proposition.
Higgins and Knights are the worry for me.

Almost perfect Con – just need to do some work on the Def’s. Bock will get the No.1 Fwd this year without Rutten so his scoring will fall significantly. Who is Johnson? If he’s the Freo variety I like that POD. Shep has lost all confidence and even as an avid WCE supporter I wouldn’t consider him. With the money you make from that downgrade, make Fraser into Jolly and get Smith on your bench.
BTW how are the potatoes going this season?

Quite a good team Nig.
Wouldn’t have the three Blue guns in there as the bye will kill you so it would have to be Judd or Murph.
Like the Stiffy POD at Def.
Get rid of Peake he’s a spud.
Be careful of Dids in early as he’s had an injury interupted pre-season and looks like a classic upgrade option after their byes.
You need another premium in the Fwds.
7/10

For those that are wondering why you are getting no feedback/rating when you cut and paste from the HS SC site and it structures vertically, that is why.
If you take the time to structure up as it would be on the field, I dare say many more of us would take the time to offer advice.

And don’t be afraid to comment on other people’s teams as well!
Surprisingly, it may help you to solidify your own opinion on certain player combos and give someone else a different point of view.
Deano, PA, HGL and a few others out have been doing a super job in the reviews! but give them a bit of a chop out (meaning don’t just stick your team up :) )

Great comment Brad, there’s a few contributors that stand out for speaking sense here and I take note, and the more effort taken the more notice is taken, I love the banter and sincerity here, very little animosity towards any teams, without getting all warm and fuzzy it is really good to get genuine responses. saying that I did throw random teams up a while back but have been holding off on the final draft, think I’m ready to post soon. All hail Gillers Sc team ’11,

It’s a calculated risk, I take it, that you’re taking with your flexibility (DPP) is with rookies on the bench.

For what it’s worth: Toy over Coad, Bartel over Corey, Pav over Goodes and no comment on Gamble/Darling.

11-13 100+ players. solid team that will take some beating.

Will probably get plenty of opportunity over the first 5 rounds or so, but if he doesn’t do what the saints expect of him, he’ll be out pretty quick. Although, in saying that, there is no reason he can’t fill that role (leading mark). He was just unfortunate that at Geelong, guys like Stevie J, Pods, Moons and Tommahawk were better options.

Solid team Deano.
I personally think Bartel is a steal for under $550K and I expect his to rise sharply over the first 5 rounds.
You do not mind having two Hawks in the forward line? It will leave a significant hole to fill.
Lastly, I like the look of Heppell and I would try to get him on the ground in the back line if you can. Then again I can see you are using him for the DPP flexibility which is probably a good idea.
Overall minor comments on a strong team.

B- Great backs with Hurn as a bit of a unique from what i have seen around. Toy over Coad

C- Great mids, Bartel over Corey.

R- Good rucks, Jolly looked like he wasnt match fit the other night but thats probably due to it being his first preseason hit out.

F- Good forwards, I think Vez may be a little inconsistant this year but will earn you cash. If you pick Pav you will have 4 out in your forwards in round 6, if you are going for overall

Overall really good team

Deledio, Broughton, Enright, Grimes, Otten, Puopolo, Heppel (Stanley, Hibberd, Duigan)

Goddard, Swan, Gibbs, Bartel, Foley, Mzungu (Swallow, Harris, Smith)

Sandi, Cox (Smith, Cordy)

Benches are subject to being named round 1.

Giller March 9, 2011 at 6:31 am

Puopolo, has he done anything in preseason to warrant having him?
I think Duigan or Toy will score better (IMO)
Daw won’t actually play this year, looking a bit like a O’hAilpin from Carlton, body for AFL but reading the game and ‘feeling’ the game isn’t in his blood, therefore I just can’t see him scoring (yet) or increasing in value (VFL year for him)
Foley by all accounts ‘should’ be a player to have but I’m going with the Bombers Jetta to step up and be a POD ,
For Roo see Chappy, DPP and all of last year was talk of ‘might’ be injured but never was really, so I’ll back him this year too.
For your forward bench I think you obviously looking for some POD to everyone else but don’t let that blind you to some money makers out there, so what if everyone has them, you’ll make $$$ on them to then do as you wish

Thanks Giller. Points noted. Benched are likely to be changed, as stated. Not sure on Puopolo, he got some early write-ups, so will wait and see.

I think I’m happy with Foley, although have been tossing up between Foley, Trengrove and Anthony. It’s just a pity they’re all in the midfield. Jetta hasn’t really come into my calculations. Although, according to SCGold, only about 7% have Foley, so not bad POD.

I like your team Brad.

I think Foley is a great choice but if concerned about his ankle lasting the whole season Trent Cotchin is only a few thousand more and has been impressive in his first pre-season campaign. Very highly regarded at Tigerland may have a breakout-season.

Is it a good idea to have two Hawks in the forward line? Perhaps Goodes or Green are worth considering.

I am not sold on Darling for F7, I think Prestia is a better choice if you can find the $$$.

Really happy with my team and feeling confident with the forward line i’ve listed below but i recognise the risk factor associated with it. Higgins, Knights and Petrie are all injury prone and Dangerfield and Krakouer are speculative. I’ve seen a lot of other teams with similar set up, maybe not to this extent but the more i think about it the happier i am with this fwd strategy. FYI, I’ve got Mzungu in the mids to interchange with Higgins, Dangerfield, Krakouer and Smith when required plus J Tippett in the ruck to interchange with Petrie when required.

Riewoldt, Franklin, Higgins, Dangerfield, Knights, Petrie, Krakouer .. [I Smith, Richardson, Matera]

Higgins – Risky but a proven good player and had a good pre-season
Dangerfield – Was set to go last year and then had a Kosi like season. I don’t think he’s as clumsy as Kosi and think this year will be his year.
Knights – Look up his SC history and you’ll see he’s way unders for his price
Petrie – Similar to Knights but x2. North seems to be managing his injuries well this time around. My major question mark is that he doesn’t play Rnd 1, 3 and 19.
Krakouer – Feel he’s the greatest risk. Know there’s lots of talk about him but what i’ve seen hasn’t sold me yet. Would rather go down with 80% of other SC coaches than be alone this one.

Still 2 weeks to go. Sure the team will change 2000 more times!!!

B: Gibbs Deledio Broughton Grimes Otten Cheney Heppell
Stanley Toy Duigan

M: Goddard Swan Judd Pavlich Kennedy Mzungu
Swallow Harris Hibberd

R: Sandilands Cox
Smith Tippett

F: Riewoldt Franklin Goodes Higgins Petrie Krakouer Prestia
Richardson Matera Richie

I have 2 covers of DPP in the back to mids and mids to fwds and also a cover in the rucks. Only wanted 2 mid pricers as I only want guns at the end and I think kennedy and higgins are going well. will look to upgrade them mid season, while the rest are my cash cows. I think I have a good strategy just a matter of having the right players. Please help me out and criticise.

Everybody is going to be running around like a headless chook as soon as the R1 teams are finalized and a few of our players aren’t named. Michael Coad-
Position- Key Back
SC position- B
Fantasy Freako- Some very positive signs last season. Will be a regular from day one.

Info- usually gets one of the tall forwards, but he has shown he can be an attacking defender. Was picked in the 2010 rookie draft after finishing runner up in the B&F for Sturt in 2009. He’s definately got the body to withstand a full season in the AFL. His strength is marking, he had the most marks at GC last year. His best game in the VFL last year, was against Werribee, gathering 36 disposals and 21 marks.

SC average in the VFL last year- 95.75(8 games), 123, 121, 196, 82, 9, 80, 111, 44.

Sam Iles
Position- C/B
SC position- C
Fantasy Freako- Should be a consistent performer in the midfield, a lot like Brad Sewell.

Info- Was delisted at Collingwood, then moved to the Box Hill team where he won the B&F, and finished 3rd in the Liston Trophy. He then played with GC finishing as the B&F for them. He finished 1st in the club for- Disposals, handball receives, uncontested possessions and inside 50′s. 2nd in the- clearances, tackles, uncontested marks, and looseball gets. 3rd- contested possessions, hardball gets and score assists capping off one hell of a season.

SC average in the VFL last year- 95.94(18 games) 84, 65, 56, 124, 94, 93, 116, 60, 105, 124, 96, 94, 71, 114, 96, 76, 138, 121

Good looking team, Duffy, a few criticisms, though:
- No Swan, Goddard, or Gablett is a risk.
- Rucks are risky, too, with Tippett consistent only in his inconsistency and Fraser a washed-up veteran at a new club.
- Is it another risk having Franklin and Rioli in the same forward line? I’m not sure, even after reading the dedicated post.
- Too many mid-pricers in the middle. I’d trade Palmer out for Harris and upgrade Anthony to Pendlebury (or similar, just an example). Could also do something like Petterd to Darling and Adcock to Goddard (again, not sure whether this is possible, just an example)

Pretty good team overall, like the couple of MPPs for flexibility, but as always, room for improvement!

Really not sure, good question.

Haven’t seen enough of Anthony to comment, and Cotchin will be a gun once he gets over his injury niggles and builds up some confidence (which may be this season, or may not!). If you can utilise Dangerfield’s MPP ability I’d take him – his seemingly suicidal nature allows him to win a heap of contested footy if he’s going to be played in the midfield, though that same nature could cost him a couple of games in injury (like when he ran into the goal post last year; he’s freaking insane).

I wouldn’t be sure any of them would become a keeper, and as such, if it were me, I’d get a rookie and use the extra money to upgrade somewhere else. Having said that, I don’t know the structure of your team etc. so it’s up to you.

I DON’T THINK YOU SHOULD WRITE IN CAPITALS, IT MAKES WHAT YOU’RE SAYING DIFFICULT TO READ.

But I like your team a lot. Personally, I wouldn’t go with Chapman, overpriced and injury-prone, though he’s a gun so I see why you have. Other potential (but resolvable) difficulties include the lack of a certain D. Swallow, and if you’re going for the league win, then you might struggle to cover the loss of Murphy and Gibbs in preliminary final week. But that’s all I can come up with.

Oh, and Swan and Pendlebury in the same midfield is slightly risky. I, too, would like both, but not sure about putting two premiums from the same team in the same position…

Which Tippett?? If it’s Kurt you’ve spent too much money on your R3. If it’s Joel you should swap him or Campbell for Zac Smith.

Buddy and Rioli mean it’ll really stretch your fwds when Hawks have the bye. Maybe look at one as an upgrade target.

Gibbs and Judd will both be out come Rnd 23 (SC prelim week). You could get by with one but maybe not both.

Generally good though..

Good day to all,

I would appreciate a glance over my current Supercoach team for 2011. This is only my second year, and I didn’t really know what I was doing in my first year (finished 5th, but ran out of trades). Hopefully this year I’ll be able to get Top 2:

BACKS
Goddard, Gibbs, Deledio, Gilbee, Bock, Menzel, Otten
(Toy, Puopolo, Duigan)

MIDFIELD
Swan, Pendlebury, Bartel, Swallow, Gaff, Heppell
(Prestia, Harris, Atley)

RUCKS
Sandilands, Jolly
(J Tippett, Atley)

FORWARDS
Franklin, Pavlich, Goodes, Higgins, Murphy, Petrie, Krakouer
(Mzungu, Richardson, I Smith)

Note: These are all in descending $ order, and I haven’t had a chance to organise the bench yet (i.e.: Petrie not playing in Round 1, etc).

Note: I have approx. $70,000 leftover.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to comment.

Cheers.

Not a bad team there David.
Pretty unique, some different things…
IMO Swan and Pendles in the same mids is very risky… Collingwoods bye rounds will hurt. So I’d change that.
If I were you, I’d take Polec over Gaff, but I haven’t seen alot of Gaff so thats up to you…
I think you may have made a mistake with Ruck 4, never heard of a rucking Atley…
So thats it, not bad, just a few fixes. :D

B Lake is injured – see the post “Its Just a Flesh Wound”

Having Roo, Hayes and Goddard means you’re probably going to get flogged when the Saints have a bye – they’re 3 of your biggest scorers.

I’m no way qualified to make comments, but word on the street is that Smith and Talia are no certainies to make Round 1. Have you considered any GC forwards?

Congrats SF – you have just passed with honours as an official SCT commenter. Keep up the sensible critiques.
Nig
I wouldn’t worry too much about Smith at this stage as you’ve got sex on the beach until rd 5 however keep an eye on the injury reports. SF is right with Talia – consider other options like Prestia, Darling, Tapscott etc.

Looks like you could afford to upgrade Vickery into Sandilands.
Chapman is injured atm.
Your backline could do withat least 1 more solid scorer.
You could downgrade Ablett until you see him play in a new jumper. He is also on the injury list.
Blease/Wallis/Cordy may not play early and I think that you have too much money on your bench with Petrie/Gamble/Ves.
If you swap Petrie with Maric and put JTippet at R4, you can cover your ruck byes and gain scoring value out Petrie on the other weeks through his & JT’s DPP status.

Get rid of McKernan, Staker, Hansen, Wedderly??, Marsten, Wingard, McVeigh, Post, Motlop (def get rid of), and probably Harvey. Way too many midpricers that are not gonna gain in value and will score subpar. Get more rookies and proven guns. Some rookies will score better then those midpricers and they cost less.

Get Marty Clarke in backline, move Deledio back as well.
