Obviously an upgrade week this week, just worried I’ve burned through too many trades. Daniel injury hurts a bit too.

    1. Looks like about 5 upgrades needed assuming you are happy with brayshaw.
Could be a good time to convert Walsh to Slone.
Walsh has topped out and Slone is in fine form with a low break even.

    2. I think you’re going to be very tight on trades Mat. Reckon Duursma, Walsh and Setterfield are past their use by dates and with Daniel’s injury he’s a must go this week.
      Daniel->Marshall
      Duursma -> Stewart/Rich
Leaves you with 7 trades and around $200k with Walsh and Setterfield to upgrade later. Walsh to Shuey/Sloane/Bont is about $100k.

Will upgrade logue in the coming weeks as he fattens a bit to finish the side, with 5 trades left to cover for injuries, not much bench cover so going to need them all..

  3. Def: Lloyd, Williams, Stewart, Sicily, Hore, Moore (Logue, Answerth)

Mid: Macrae, Fyfe, Cripps, Neale, Oliver, M Crouch, Walsh, Hately (Clarke, O Baker, Bewley)

    Run: Gawn, Grundy (bines)

Fwd: Dunkley, danger, Marshall, Boak, Kelly, Heaney, (Setters, Corbett)

15 trades and 263k in the bank.

Planning on Walsh to Slone and then either:
    TU: Hore to Hurn
    TD: Corbett to Chol

Kelly and Whitfield will be my last 2 upgrade targets, but will need some cash generation which is why I am considering Chol.

    Happy for any suggestions.

    1. I voted thumbs up but can see where you’re coming from with Chol trade. Hurn can probably wait a week as he shouldn’t go up in price too much if at all this week. If you’re happy with Logue for bench cover next week you could go Answerth to nonplaying $102k to net $140k plus allowing Hurn trade and plenty of bank for next upgrade (Walsh to Sloane/Bont/Shuey etc)

    2. An option could be

      Rd16:
Out: S Walsh and J Corbett
In: R Sloane and M Chol
      Approx 275,000 remaining salary.

      Rd17:
Out: O Baker and N Answerth
      In: M Owies/etc and S Hurn
      Approx 100,000 left

      Rd18:
Out: B Bewley and W Setterfield
In: rookie and D Mundy (provides cover and loop opportunities)

      Approx 75,000 to 100,000 left.

      Rd19:
Out: D Moore and J Hately
In: R Gardner/etc and mid premium

    1. Worpel is expensive bench cover. I would suggest downgrade this week to Chol and that should give you enough in the bank for your remaining upgrades.
After going full premo You’ll have about 7 trades to cover injuries which is pretty good.

      4

      2
    2. Considering Worpel to J Cameron for forward cover until the end of the year, and Clarke to maybe Treloar. Logue will become Whitfield in time, and one more 1down/1up trade in the midfield.

      0

      9
      1. What’s wrong with Worpel as bench cover? Sideways trading him to Jez is an awful option, you’ll gain nothing there (I’m a Cameron owner FWIW). Worpel is a FWD/MID yeah? Given your M7 and M8 are rookies, why not downgrade a mid rookie to a fwd rookie and move Worpel to M7?

        9

        0
        1. Thanks team, noted. Will move on one of my average mid rookies, Worpel to the mids, potentially Chol down forward and Cunnington into the mids leaving only Logue on field as a rookie.

    8 Trades

    180k in bank

Ranked 18,000 (was 58,000 four weeks ago)

Ranked really low due to a shocking start but had 18+ every bye round and have been climbing. I know I won’t finish top 10k and I’ll struggle near finals but I think I’ve done pretty well considering my starter team had blokes like Menegola, Steele, Harris Andrews and Heeney. Also stupidly choosing Goldy over Gawn.

Hoping Logue can go up as I’ll be using Begley and Scott this week to get my last premo FWD. I’m in a spot where I am most likely gonna have to finish with Hore (not too bad). So my last spot outside of Hore will depend on how much Logue can produce with Answerth. Obviously hoping that the last DEF will be Whitfield as well. Still tossing up about Rowan Marshall at that price, I think I missed the boat.

    2

    0
    1. I started with Menegola too (over Kelly, really kicking myself for that one). Am I crazy for wanting to bring him back in as a M9/F7 when he returns? He’s $420k with a low breakeven.

      4

      0
      1. I don’t think you are. Something has to be up with his low production early whether it was a niggly injury or a role change. I feel like he will be used more as he’s gonna be fresh and it’d be in their best interest to try and manage the workloads of Duncan and Kelly for finals. It’s a risk that could make or break the season so very much worth considering.

On the note of bad picks my whole forward line was bad, my three premos I chose were Danger, Menegola and Heeney, all of which dropped to low 400k area at one point.

  7. DEF: Lloyd, Hurn, Houli, Ryan, Sicily & Logue [Burgess, Hinge]

MID: Macrae, J. Kelly, Fyfe, Cripps, Cunnington, Neale, Oliver & Sloane [D. Clarke, Bewley, loophole]

    RUC: Gawn & Grundy [loophole]

FWD: Dunkley, Dangerfield, Marshall, Boak, Heeney & Setterfield [Corbett, Gardner]

Got 6 trades left and 186k in the bank. Plan this week is to go either Burgess/Corbett -> Chol and then Setterfield -> T. Kelly, although Lycett may now be rivaling him for that last spot. Will put that debate to a T.U/T.D later on in the week.

      1. Hey, bAps.

Yeah, Kelly is the obvious choice to finish my FWD line but I’m just concerned about tags.

He’s pretty much guaranteed to cop Steele in R17 and Howe in R18, maybe Hewett in R19 and most likely Curnow in R23. 4 potentially horrific scores right there, putting me off a bit.

        Hmm.

        2

        1
        1. Lycett also has a fairly soft draw (no Gawn or Grundy), and would provide valuable ruck cover.

          1

          0
          1. I don’t have Bines, so don’t get the benefit of ruck cover, but I do like Lycett’s run. Issue is whether Ryder comes back in.

7 trades 253.9k ranking close to 30k after being as high as 60k pre byes. Never quite nailed starting rookies, and starting Vardy, have been behind the eight ball from the start. Not having Daniel is my first lucky break.

        1. Good on ya mate.
I’d go Fort to Chol via Bines, you can then loophole Chol and Gresham thru Young this week.
Bucketload to do whatever you want with Duursma. Maybe even Harlett so you can bring Lloyd/Whitfield in cheap in a week or two.
If you can avoid injuries that’ll leave you with 4 trades and enough cash to turn Gresham and/or Shiel into whoever you want, should you feel the need.
A bit crazy (how you like it), but might just work?!?

          1

          1. my friend…I have been thinking along those lines. But it may mean that I end up with rob and no grundy. Whitfield and Lloyd both have high be’s, so I reckon I only get one of them for logue in a few weeks, which means duursma to any of a lot of options this week. I’m thinking salem/rich/crisp
reckon the chol trade is a bit of a luxury given his js but if he plays two and no injuries, enough cash for grundy.
I went to the saints bombers game in r2…very happy with starting Gresham after that night !!

I was happy to sit pretty and let Logue & Setterfield appreciate in value to upgrade D6 to a premium, but now I have to deal with Daniel’s injury.
The two obvious options would be Boak and Marshall, but annoyingly, I’ll have to spend money to get to them. Which one averages more from hereon out?

    4

    1. Or is it worth holding Daniel and hope its only 3 weeks? I could just play Setterfield at F6 to cover him.

      2

      5
      1. I’m not sure about this either. I am leaning toward taking the opportunity to upgrade daniel to Marshall.

Daniel has been fantastic but every week he stresses me out as he needs so many touches to score. I am quietly happy to have a valid reason to do a somewhat sideways trade with him. Marshall score sc points for fun

    2. Great team bAps.

An option could be to trade C Daniel to J Ziebell which would give you sufficient cash to turn Setterfield into Mundy providing cover for your fwds and mids in conjunction with allowing the opportunity to loop with J Cameron at F6 for the remainder of the season.

Or a riskier alternative is if the Hoff returns you could grab him instead of Ziebell which should give you around 140,000 assuming you still do the Mundy trade and downgrading 1 of Bewley/Baker next week should allow G Logue to S Hurn/ J Sicily.

      4

Biggest hole I see currently is Smith still in defense. Cameron has also been a little disappointing recently as F6.

Would love to have some cover in defense as well. Plan is to not use trades for a while (and hope Gawn plays this week), but may need to look to trade Smith to try and climb the rankings more. Its all or nothing at this stage and cross my fingers.

  13. Hey guys, sorry this isnt a team rating but I need serious help towards the back end of my trades. Currently have 130k in the bank with Durrsma needing to be traded. I have no cover for Daniel, so he needs to go. Also wanting to get rid of Houli, but im going to give him another week and see how he goes. Ideally want whitfiled in my team ASAP….

    Thoughts please???

    1. I think you need to run with houli. Don’t want to use another trade on a fit player who is very capable of big scores.

Trade Duursma and daniel for the two best you can get then sit tight and hope for good health .

That said you are ranked way up on me so you would have a better idea!

  14. Hey guys can I please have your thoughts? I’m ranked 420

Stewart, Laird, Sicily, Lloyd, Williams, Logue (Burgess, Gardner)

Cripps, Fyfe, Neale, Sloane, Kelly, Satan Oliver, M Crouch, Macrae (Clarke, Bewley, Hind)

    Grundy, Gawn (ROB)

Dunkley, Marshall, Danger, Boak, Kelly, Heeney (Setters, Young)

7 trades left and 200k in the bank.

Next week ROB to Sweet and Burgess to Whitfield, leaving Logue D7, Clarke M9, Setters F7 with 5 trades left.

Is it then worth upgrading Dylan Clarke to Tom Hawkins via Setterfield? Opening a M/F swing and Heeney at F7/M9 with Hawkins. 4 trades left.

    3

    2
    1. Wow, what a team! Superbly managed, TR.

Instead of the Heeney/Hawkins swing venture, I’d luxury trade out Crouch for Yeo, Cunnington, Bont or Parker just to give you that edge.

      5
      1. I hear you. I just feel that Matt will average 107-110 which honestly I’m fine with. It’s not worth burning a trade to someone who will average 115 and gain 60-100 points for the season when a round 23 injury to a Fyfe for example could lose me 120. If Crouch was averaging 95 then I’d be more inclined to pulled the trigger as 160 points could be the difference between 50k and finishing 200th…

        5

        1. I’ve also been conservative this year with my trades as I was left stranded in round 23 last year with Parker, Buddy, Walters, Ryan and a rookie out. I copped 5 donuts and managed 2400. This cost me 500 dollars in a cash league.

    1. Sorry I forgot to include my trade
Plans In my team above(I was rushing to get my team on in my
lunch break ) My biggest concern
would be having no cover on my bench down back hopefully I can
bring someone in at some stage.
I definitely want to upgrade Logue
to Whitfield in 2 or 3 weeks time.
Then I need to look at M/F swing
player to go into my midfield bench to possibly use as Cover and to Loophole with. Any advice would be
      greatly appreciated!

  19. Would love some advice on my team, as once again, undecided what trades to make this week –
DEF : J Lloyd, Williams, Laird, Stewart, Sicily, Logue, Bench – Answerth, Gardner
MID: Macrae, J Kelly, Dunkley, Fyfe, Neale, Oliver, Cripps, D Clarke, Bench – Hately, O Baker & Bewley
    RUCKS: Gawn, Grundy & Sweet
FWD: Danger, Boak, Heeney, T Kelly, Daniel, J Cameron, Bench – Setterfield & Burgess

9 trades remaining, $159,000 in bank, 11,694 overall. Will hold Cripps if not in this week.

Still need one premium defender – waiting on Hurn.
Still need one premium mid – will be Sloane or Bont

With Daniel to be traded out this week, I can either trade in Marshall, and was thinking of a 2nd trade of Answerth to Chol via Burgess DPP, to gain some cash.
OR, I could move Dunkley from Mid to Fwd, and trade in either Bont or Sloane, and do the same 2nd trade as above, however, this would lose my mid/fwd DPP, but would enable me to be able to trade in both Bont & Sloane, instead of just the one, over the next couple of weeks.

Would love some recommendations from the supercoach gurus, or any other suggestions.

    1. Answerth to Chol, Baker to Sloane.

Hold Daniel for this week, Setterfield will score 80-90 against Melbourne. Next week Trade Daniel out for Hawkins if he is still 3 weeks away. And use the cash to Logue to Hurn or Whitfield if possible. You may be very tight on cash.

      1. Thanks TrooRoo – had tried this scenario but fall about $8,000 short of Sloane unfortunately. However it will work if I trade out Answerth & D Clarke for Chol & Sloane, but that will only leave me $1,500. Already have a KPP in J Cameron so not that keen on Hawkins, especially as I already have Danger & T Kelly in my fwds. But would consider Answerth & D Clarke to Sloane & Chol, so next week could afford to do Daniel & Baker to Bont (by moving Dunkley Fwd) & a rookie……leaving me 5 trades with only Logue to Hurn to go….

Will give it some more thought – and wait till Thursday night teams drop, as there’s always surprises that send you back to the drawing board.

    1. Very jealous of this team! 4 trades left with only one midfield spot left to upgrade is very good. Jelly seems to be the best option for you to get regarding the fact that his price is dropping, and if you only use 1 to 2 trades to get him then that would leave you with two trades left. What is interesting is the fact that you do not have hurn in the backline, who is easily a top 3 defender. Crisp is a risky option, unless you have held him for a while, because then you are stuck with him. Might be a good option to replace crisp and bring in a much more consistent and a better scoring defender in Hurn. Otherwise, your team is very strong.

      1. Agreed, GS. Coming into finals you do not want to have someone like Sicily or Crisp coming up against an opponent who has Hurn, as Hurn will outscore Crisp and Sicily any day of the week.

        2

    2. HOLD with only 4 trades left. It’s a shame you don’t have a MID loophole to maximise onfield pts. That’ll have to be a value judgment every week.
I’d wait and see what MIDs are cheap when your rookies are fat enough.
You should go pretty well until then anyway. Good luck!

    1. AS drew my attention to Corbett’s mighty performance in the NEAFL this week, bagging 6 goals guarantees his return either this week or the next. Despite his renewed JS, his B.E is 77- so he’s gonna some cash. Circumstantial whether you cash him in or keep him as cover.

In your case, GP, Corbett -> Chol might be a good move seeing though you don’t heaps of cash generation outside of Hind and Logue. It would free up 100k for you and will be useful when you go to make that final trade down back with Logue -> Whitfield, I’m assuming.

      3

      0
      1. Logue or Hore to whomever I can afford, probably Whitfield.

I am liking the idea of Chol, when Daniels gets back at least I’ll have forward cover.

The eagles lost a defender on the weekend so maybe Rotham will get some more games and make some more cash generation.

    1. Hey, FC.

Not trying to be an assh*le, but I’m surprised a team with Brayshaw and Worpel at M7/8 is ranked 875th- so well done!

As for where you should upgrade, I’d start with Hore. Gonna lose more cash this week. Honestly, you could even go Hore -> Whitfield if he returns this week. Everyone expecting a dramatic price drop, but he could hit his B.E of 154.

Now full premo, the next order of business would be cashing in ROB the following week and topping off guys like Brayshaw, Worpel and Greene to whichever premos you fancy.

Think you’re in a great position, well done. Hope I helped.

      Goodluck!

      1. Thanks gunboat! Out of interest, who would you upgrade first out of gus, worpol and Greene?

        0

        0
        1. Would probably base it on their respective B.E’s at the time of the trade, as in who’s going to lose the most money if you don’t trade them. That said, probably Worpel to go first; only because you’ve got him in the midfield and that puts you at a disadvantage to teams with M8s like Sloane, Coniglio and Crouch. After Worpel, trade out Greene and then Brayshaw, I’d say.

          1

          0
        2. I would base it on nothing but the points it adds to your onfield score. That is all that matters in the run home. So, if one will give you 40/wk based on current averages and the other two, 35 and 30 respectively, start with the 40pts and work down that list.
Obviously the sooner and the more points the greater the pts benefit over the journey. Of course, there may be alternatives you really like or budgetary considerations but as a general rule, it works.
Planning all three before you make them, ensuring you’re maximising points, are happy with selections AND can afford them is crucial.
          Hope that helps!?? Good luck

If I don’t get any injuries between now and then, and I’m able to do it in one trade, then it’s certainly something I’d consider. But for the time being my focus is on keeping what trades I have left in the bank, to deal with the inevitable carnage that is bound to be coming our way.

      1. Fair question.

Both of their last two games have been below that level, but everything they have showed up until that point (Hore scored 116 and 94 his two games prior to that; Milera 84 and 97) suggests that, for D5-6, they’re close enough. You wouldn’t want them at D1-3, but at 5-6 you’re probably not losing that many points by keeping them.

      1. Unfortunately it is this year GD, its more about who ive had and not kept over who i have now (which may hurt a lot soon)
I had Hurn and moved him on pre byes, same as Whitfield (just after bringing him in!) Cripps out for possibly two was enough to make the move, plus was going to get j.kelly anyway. Because ive had luck with injuries i could afford the trades at the time and i would have had donuts during byes if i didnt. Was also lucky enough to start with players like Williams and Neale (and cripps) and missing ross and getting stack etc. Considering how even teams are at rhis point i can honestly say its been as much luck as management (if not more on the luck side). Ive been in this position before, was running 11th post byes a few years back and a spate of injuries come finals had me finish outside the top 100, so heres hoping for a bit more luck to come!!

I cant bring in lycett (and use bines dp) for setterfield as wont have the cash. And i dont want to trade him in for worpel as would have to play setterfield in forward line. I may have to consider downgrading Gawn and then upgrading stack and then worry about getting Gawn back in..or downgrade to lycett, upgrade stack and then move lycett forward for worpel the following week

            2

            0
            1. Tough decisions. I’m seriously considering downgrading Gawn to Goldy and pocket the cash to upgrade Logue in a few weeks. Even if Gawn plays or misses 1, won’t be anywhere near full fitness for at least a few weeks. Also, now is a good time for Melbourne to bring in Preuss for a few games. They’re season is shot anyway, so could affect Gawn’s output anyway.

Sitting at 205, I can’t swallow copping a donut. Might be an opportunity to jump a few copping a zero. A season defining moment.

                  1. If Gawn has proven on thing this year it’s never doubt him.

Plenty of people omitted him in their initial sides, others still started him but anticipated a decreased output, everyone thought Grundy would restrict his scoring when they played and he smashed him- along with every other ruck.

At every juncture he has proven his detractors wrong, it’s impressive.

Then when he rolled his ankle we all thought that was it and yet he came back on. All reports say he’ll play this week.

I’m still gonna back him for #1 SC player this year, never doubt Big Maxxy!

      1. Prefer to keep Hore to loop with Logue as I started Hore, then traded him out due to his non selection, then brought him back in after his bubble. Def wise would look to target L Ryan or J Sicily for the last spot.

Thanks for the option regarding keeping Setters but this would still mean Hoff is at F6. An alternative by still keeping him could be to switch him to the mids and trade Hately for Menegola/Hawkins by downgrading Daniel to Mundy this round.

Two upgrades needed (Logue and Begley currently on field)
Plans before finals and before Daniel was injured were:
    O Baker + Burgess-> Kelly (or Parker)+ a playing rookie (dpp preferable)
And move Dunkley back to the fwd line where he belongs, Leaving only Logue on the field who would turn into Whitfield

But injury gets in the way of any well thought out plans. Now I have to deal with Daniels problem. I’m actually thinking about keeping Daniel and upgrading one of Burgess or Young to Heeney. Who would fill in for Daniel whilst he’s injured and when back Heeney would swing between mid and fwd as bench cover. Because at the moment I’ve got SFA for cover.

Realistically how long do you guys reckon Daniels out for? Should I just trade him out rather than keep him?

    RUC: Gawn, Grundy (Bines)

FWD: Dangerfield, Walters, Boak, Kelly, Heeney, Daniel (Setterfield, Corbett)

6 trades (burnt a few with injuries – looking at you JPK)

    $32k in the bank

Rank 10k – captained Gawn last week 🙁

If Gawn plays, I’m considering offing Baker/Bewley to Bont through an injured Daniel to Chol freeing up a bit of cash with Setters for cover if Danger doesn’t play. If Gawn doesn’t play, I’m then considering a straight swap between Daniel and Lycett for cover.
