Rate My Team – Rd5

Written by Schwarzwalder on April 24 2017

While we have a bit of time for self-reflection over this long weekend, let’s get our teams rated by the SCT Coaches!  How is your team looking heading towards Rd6?

Be sure to include:

* Team line-up

* # of Trades Left (be honest) 😉

* Cash In The Bank &

* Any Trade Plans you may have in the lead-up to the Bye Rounds.

Don’t be afraid to leave some constructive criticism for your fellow Coaches either……….

  1. Def: Howe, Laird, SHaw, Otten, Marchbank, Williamson (Newman, Stewart)
Mid: Danger, Pendles, Selwood, Fyfe, Mitchell, Beams, hanners, Steele (SPP, Barrett, Pickett)
    Ruck: Stef martin, Sandy (strnadica)
Fwd: Dahl, Buddy, Nank, WHE, Butler, Houston (Eddy, Parfitt)
25 trades left, $15k in bank

For next couple weeks not planning many trades other than getting in the right rookies for cash generation.

Def: I think I need one of Doch or Adams in Backline soon, will prob go Doch and then Adams after rd 13 Bye as I already have 3 Prem defenders with same bye.

Mids I am pretty happy for now, will look to move steele down fwd at some point and bring in Final Prem mid.

Fwds: Will aim for T Lynch after rd 9 bye, and either bring in Macrae after rd 11 or swap him for steele if steele gets dropped / drops too much below his current average.

  2. Def: Adams, Laird, Shaw, Marchbank, McGrath, Hampton (Newman, Stewart)
Mid: Murphy, Dangerfield, Fyfe, Beams, Treloar, SPS, SPP, Swallow (O’Meara, Florent, Barrett)
    Ruck: Nankervis, Sandilands (Preuss)
Fwd: Dahlhaus, Franklin, Steele, Hoskin-Elliott, Butler, Houston (Taranto, Ainsworth)

24 trades remaining, $498,300 in the bank

future trades: team needs a lot of work but am waiting for rookies to hit their peak price before trading. would like to bring in one elite def, one elite fwd and two-three elite mids before we hit the bye rounds.

    1. I’m not having a go here, so please don’t take offense, I’m genuinely curious:
You’ve used 6 trades so far, but what on? Did you just have bad luck with injuries from your starting squad? Your team currently looks basically the same as a lot of starting teams I saw in the ‘rate my team’ threads.

  3. DEF: Laird, Shaw, Otten, Hampton, Docherty, Marchbank (Newman, Stewart)
MID: Danger, Jelwood, Murf, Fyfe, Beams, Zorko, Swallow, JOM (Pepper, Barrett, McGrath)
    RUC: Sandy, Witts (Preuss)
FWD: Dahl, Greene, Nank, WHE, Butler, Houston (Turner, Hannan)

    24 trades left

    $183 900

Trade plan: slaughter/upgrade the fattened calves when juicy; otherwise only upgrade if decent premos become available at a decent price (e.g. Pendles). Also, will pick up any fresh rookies who are too good to pass up.

  4. DEF: Docherty, Laird, Shaw, Marchbank, Otten, Hampton (Newman, Stewart)

MID: Dangerfield, Martin, JPK, Fyfe, Treloar, Hannebery, SPP, SPS (Taranto, Barrett, Pickett)

    RUCK: Sandilands, Witts (Strnadica)

FWD: Dahlhaus, JJK, Nankervis, Roughead, WHE, Butler (Houston, Eddy)

26 trades left, 73.7k in the bank.

Some premos have under performed (Shaw, Hanners) and I started with Roughy and O’meara which was a misstep, but other than that I’m pretty happy, especially with the picks of Sandiwitts, Nankervis and Otten.

  5. 26 trades left heading into Rd6, $88,800 cash remaining.

DEF: Laird, Howe, Otten, Marchbank, Hampton, Newman (Stewart, Hibberd)

MID: Danger, Pendles, Jelwood, Fyfe, JPK, Treloar, Beams, Macrae (SPP, Parfitt, Barrett)

    RUC: Sandi, Witts (Strnadica)

FWD: Dahl, Nank, Lynch (GC), WHE, Roughy, Butler (Hannan, Eddy)

The plan this week is to downgrade SPP, and use the cash to upgrade Roughy to a premium defender. I should be able to afford Docherty. Or should I wait a week or two to get either Shaw or Simpson?
Macrae will be moved into the forward line throughout all the DPP-ness.

  6. Please help me out Supercoach Talk gang!

    Def: T.Adams, J.Lloyd, A.Otten, H.Shaw, C.Marchbank, C.Hampton (N.Newman, T.Stewart)
    Mid: P.Dangerfield, N.Fyfe, J.Kennedy, T.Mitchell, D.Beams, J.Macrae, A.Trealor, D.Swallow (Powell-Pepper, Parfitt, Pickett)
    Ruc: Nankervis, Sandi (Strandica)
Fwd: Dahlhaus, Greene, Steele, Hoskin-Elliot, Butler, Tarranto, (Houston, Eddy)

Macrae is in the midfield so I could loop hole Houstons score with Tarranto over Powell-Peppers.

27 trades left & $102,000 in the bank

    Thanks in advance!

  7. Def: Docherty, Laird, Howe, Otten, Marchbank, Hampton, Stewart, Newman

Mids: Danger, Rocky, Fyfe, JPK, Beams, Treloar, SPP, Bowes, Parfitt, Florent, Barrett

    Rucs: Witts, Sandi, Preuss

Fwd: Dahl, Buddy, T. Lynch, WHE, Butler, Houston, Eddy, Pickett

27 trades, 403K (traded Goldy down to Preuss)

Plans: Long term plan is to hold trades off as much as possible, short term planning evolves week to week, but rookies are a problem, especially in the midfield. Pretty happy to have started with Witts, Otten, T Lynch. Round 9 bye is also a problem on the horizon (3 Port, 2 GCS players).

  8. DEF: Adams, Docherty, Laird, Otten, Marchbank, Hampton (Newman, Stewart)

MID: Dangerfield, Pendlebury, Fyfe, JPK, Beams, Treloar, Swallow, O’Meara (SPP, Barret, Hibberd)

FWD: Dahlhaus, Nankervis, Macrae, Steele, WHE, Butler (Houston, Eddy)

26 trades, $90K in the piggy

    Next week:
    Hibberd > Fisher
    O’Meara > Hardwick

Started off pretty well, sitting just outside the top 1000. The next few weeks of cash generation leading up to the byes is critical to get right. Hopefully a few more rookies pop up to blood and we can start upgrading to a full-premium team.

  9. DEF
    R. Laird, A.Otten, H.Shaw, C.Marchbank, N.Newman, C.Hampton (T.Stewart, T.Williamson)

    M.Bontempelli, P.Dangerfield, S.Pendlebury, T.Adams, N.Fyfe, T.Mitchell, D.Beams, J.Lloyd (S.Petrevski-Seton, S.Powell-Pepper, J.Barrett)

    S.Martin, A.Sandilands (L.Strnadica)

    L.Dahlhaus, T.Nankervis, J.Macrae, D.Butler, D.Houston, B.Parfitt (J.Pickett, B.Eddy)

    $184,200 remaining salary.

    26 trades left.

Don’t have any real specific trade plans this year, more just taking it as it comes. Adams and Lloyd in the midfield for the moment as I had to bring in Otten and Newman.

Ultimately, I’d like to bring in Docherty & Johannisen in DEF, Sloane and Hannebery (most likely this week) in MID, Riewoldt, Franklin & one more to-be-determined FWD.

    1. This team is ridiculously good, especially having used only 4 trades! And having that much money in the bank to boot!

  10. Docherty, Laird, Adams, Otten, Mcgrath, Williamson (Newman, Stewart)

Rocky, Sloane, Danger, Pendles, Fyfe, Jpk, SPP, Treloar (Barrett, Hibberd, Fisher)

    Witts, Goldy (Preuss)

Dollhouse, WHE, MACRae, ROugh, Butler, Houston, (Hannan, Eddy)

    24 left and 150k

  11. Adams, Shaw, Laird, Otten, Marchbank, Hampton (Newman, Stewart)

Danger, Bont, Selwood, Fyfe, Mitchell, Beams, Treloar, Swallow (SPP, Barrett, Hibberd)

    Sandi, Witts (Stranadica)

Dahl, Nank, Macrae, Steele, Butler, Parfitt (Pickett, Eddy)

    27 trades, about 50c in the bank…

Happy with backline rooks until the byes, forwards are a problem.

  12. Def: Adams, Docherty, Laird, Otten, Marchbank,Hampton (Newman, Stewart)

Mid: Dangerfield, Pendlebury, Fyfe, JPK, Beams, Treloar, SPP, Parfitt (Taranto, Barret, Hibberd)

    Ruck: Martin, Sandi (Strnadica)

Fwd: Dahlhaus, Nankervis, Macrae, WHE, Butler, Houston (Pickett, Eddy)

    $233,700 in the bank

    27 trades left

My current trade plan will really depend on the selection of the rookies and if Taranto/SPP can perform better. Ill also hope that Treloar improves his DE so he can lift his average into the top 5 mids.

  13. DashingDonkeys@SCT.

DEF. Shaw, Doc, Laird, Marchbank ,Otten, Hampton/ Newman, Stewart.

MID. Danger, Jellwood, Fyfe, Sloane, Neale, Beams, JPK, SPP./
    Barrett, Pickett, Hibberd.

    RUC… Sandi/ Witts. Str….ca

FWD. Dollhouse, Nank, Steele, WHE, Roughie, T Menzel / Eddy, Parfitt.

    25 trades.

    $9900 cash.

As for trade plans, after last weeks carnage I am going to fly by the seat of my pants. I would love to up grade a forward or two before the Byes, but getting in some decent Cash Cows is my current priority.

Crossing my fingers I can get through to the next round of the SCT CUP.

  14. DEF: Docherty, Laird, Lloyd, Otten, Marchbank, Hampton (Newman, Stewart)

MID: Dangerfield, Pendlebury, JPK, Bontempelli, Fyfe, J. Selwood, Beams, Parfitt (SPS, Barrett, Hibberd)

    RUC: Sandilands, Witts (Lukehole)

FWD: Dahlhaus, Franklin, Nankervis, Steele, WHE, Houston (Pickett, Parsons)

    $67,100 in the bank.

You’re not going to like it if I tell you how many trades I’ve used…

My short-term plans are to swap Witts for Spencer, and also downgrade somebody else, which will allow me to upgrade SPS to a premium midfielder, thereby giving me a a complete midfield.

After that, I will continue to downgrade as appropriate options emerge, and upgrade when I have sufficient cash, but overall I intend to slow down my trading activities for a while.

    1. Stop trading Jack.

This a great game but if you run out of trades round 19 you can kiss any hope of winning anything good bye.

Forget about Spencer. Choose the best downgrade Rookies on the bubble.

Build your team through the byes and enjoy this great game for a whole season.

      Happy Coaching.

      1. Like I said in my original post, I’m well aware that I need to slow down with regards to trading. I was hoping I wouldn’t have to use any early trades, but injuries and dodgy rookies have forced my hand somewhat.

With the poor quality of a lot of this year’s rookies, I think Spencer could actually save me a trade or two overall. That is assuming he gets through tonight’s game uninjured!

In any case, once I have made those moves I will slow down, but I’m not going to wait for the byes simply for the sake of waiting for them – if I find myself in a position where I am able to upgrade early, I’m going to do it.

          1. Glad to know I’m not the only one! From memory, we both also seem to have the same problem spot (M8), with everything else going very nicely. It will be interesting to see how our respective seasons go from here.

Just out of curiosity, how many trades have you got left?

            1. 24. 2 were the right thing at the time but looking back now, they were a complete waste. The other 4 have been good. If I started Rocky/Houston instead of JOM/Roughie I probably would have only used 3 (1 injury, 2 rookie corrections). What can you do now though other than deal with what you have left?

  15. Laird, J.Howe, H.Shaw, C.Marchbank, A.Otten, C.Hampton (T.Stewart, N.Newman)

    P.Dangerfield, J.Kennedy, J.Selwood, N.Fyfe, A.Trelaor, D.Beams, J.Kelly, S.Powell-Pepper (T.Taranto, B.Parfitt, J.Barrett)

    T.Goldstein, A.Sandilands (L.Strnadica)

    L.Dahlhaus, J.Macrae, J.Steele, D.Butler, D.Houston, J.Bowes (M.Hannan, B.Eddy)

28 trades left… Little over $100k in the bank, next few weeks time to cull and start bring in premiums…

  16. $25, 200 remaining

    27 trades left.

DEF: Adams, Laird, Shaw, Hampton, Stewart, Berry, Hibberd, Newman

MID: Dangerfield, Pendlebury, Bontempelli, Treloar, Fyfe, Zorko, Beams, Petrevski-Seton, Powell-Pepper, Barett, Fisher

    RUC: Sandilands, Witts, Cameron

FWD: Dahlhaus, Macrae, Nankervis, Josh J Kennedy, Parfitt, Pickett, Florent, Eddy

Lacking the good rookies, especially Otten, is killing me.

My three trades so far have been Smith to Newman, Marchbank to Fisher and Taranto to JJK.

  17. $97,300 remaining

    26 trades left.

DEF: Adams, Docherty, Laird, Otten, Marchbank, Hampton, (Stewart), (Newman)

MID: Dangerfield, Selwood, Fyfe, Titchell, Beams, Treloar, Swallow, Powell-Pepper, (Parfitt), (Taranto), (Barrett)

    RUC: Martin, Sandilands, (Strnadica)

FWD: Dahlhaus, Nankervis, Franklin, Roughead, Butler, Houston, (Pickett) (Eddy)

Trading N. Roo to Buddy is fast becoming a disaster with 3 70s on the trot for the big fella…was 100% set on trading at the time why I didn’t go Macrae is beyond me but what can you do.

Roughead and Powell-Pepper likely on the block at the end of this week.

my 1st year of properly giving it a crack, sitting 11k atm.

Happy with defense, forwards and rucks for now. Newman and Eddy both did well in the 2nds and could get a call up.
5 mid rookies that have underperformed but dont have the funds to upgrade to a premo.

This is my first season so I don’t have a strategy for the Byes any advice is appreciated.
