    1. Looks like you’re set up for a rise in the rankings. Patience and a good trade plan should make it happen…..

  2. DEF- Whitfield, Hurn, Z.Williams, B.Smith, Hore, Duursma (Lockhart Answerth)
MID – Cripps, Neale, Fyfe, M.Crouch, Oliver, Walsh, Stack, Constable (Ross, Gibbons, Scott)
    RUC: Grundy Gawn (ROB)
FWD: Danger, Kelly, Heeney, Dunkley, Petrucelle, Drew (Balta, Bines)

24 Trades left (made 1 this week), 350k banked.
    Currently ranked 900-ish.
Very happy with my team at present and in a position to pounce on Macrae and/or Lloyd in the following weeks. Definitely want both in before the byes, and possibly C.Daniel too for bye structure. Going full premo well before finals is a chance at this stage (assuming Z.Williams and Dunkley hold form), and hoping to have 6 or so trades left heading into finals.

        1. Perhaps a double down-grade on Gibbons and Petruccelle? That’s what I’m doing this week. Then next week you can do some upgrading.

You could also look at doing one down-grade this week and then upgrade Libba. He’s got a B.E of 142 and will probably lose some more money, perhaps replace him with a premo you’ve being eyeing off.

    1. Great position to be in at this stage! Solid on each line with Williams and Brodie Smith travelling very nicely down back. Plus you have all the right rookies to upgrade over the next few weeks. Gonna have to keep an eye on this team over the next few months…..

    R: Grundy, Gawn (Sweet)
F: Boak, Danger, Heeney, Kelly, Moore, Drew (Petrucelle, Setterfield)

    $96k bank and 24 trades.
    Current rank 6.
I know I’m going well but have no idea with bye strategy as I have never needed one before. Highest end of year finish previously is 15k plus.
This week am thinking of offloading two of Clark, Gibbons, Petrucelle or Drew (Libba could easily be added to this list). Double downgrade or one up and one down? Not convinced on Hardly and Answerth JS atm. Corbett looking a good downgrade being a mature age?
I am weak in round 13 players at the moment. Looking to pick up Fyfe, J Kelly, Daniel and maybe Cameron to help me out with that.
I have reached my current position by following this site this year and getting lucky with my original charger choices of Grundy, Gawn, Boak and Neale. Hoping I can keep my charmed run going.
Any suggestions are more than welcome.

    1. Woah. Nice work, Stewy! Tremendous start to the season.

Although I feel ill-qualified to give you advice given you’re ranked #6, I’ll do my best lol.

If you’re not sold on Answerth or Hately’s JS, you could downgrade Petruccelle to Corbett and then upgrade Libba to one of the R13 players you were looking at. You’d have 700k~, so you could grab anyone you fancy- liking the look of Fyfe currently.

As for the other rookies you said you might cut loose, I would leave Drew for now and you’ll have to hold onto Clark and Gibbons for now as well if you don’t like the look of Answerth because there aren’t too many downgrade options atm.

Otherwise, keep doing what you’re doing!

    2. Love this side.
You obviously haven’t traded out any midfield premiums so I assume after Cripps and Neale you went for a pretty mid-price start given you also have Cripps, Williams, Smith and Boak.
Just shows that guns and rookies isn’t the only way to go.

      2

      1. Thanks Champ.
Yes, there were a few mid-priced in my original side (Libba, Crouch, Moore, Williams and Smith from memory) . Made two corrective trades early to bring in Clark and Constable. T Kelly came in last week. Otherwise pretty much rookie for rookie.
Gotta get my byes right now!

        2

    3. Father Dougal was in a similar position last year (#4 overall) and his bye strategy (or lack of) threw him right off in the end. Gotta get that fixed up ahead of time if possible. Good luck with that, Stewy!

  5. Pre this week’s trades, will take any advice:

Def: Whitfield, Laird, Williams, Smith, Duursma, Hore (Collins, Clark)

Mid: Cripps, Merrett, Oliver, Crouch, Libba, Walsh, Gibbons, Atkins (Constable, Scott, Hayes)

    Ruc: Grundy, Gawn (ROB)

Fwd: Danger, Heeney, Kelly, Worpel, Darcy Moore, Drew (Setterfield, Bines)

Rank is garbage so just playing for leagues now

    1. Plenty of trades left, long way to go in the season…………
If it was my team, I’d downgrade Collins to Answerth & upgrade Libba to Fyfe this week. That should leave enough $ to turn Duursma into Jake Lloyd next week……..

  6. Put up 2174 this week and somehow jumped 7000~ places and now I’m ranked 7723. Got 25 trades left and 49k in the bank.

    Here’s my team:

DEF: Lloyd, Hurn, Williams, Moore, Hore, Duursma, Burgess & loophole

MID: Cripps, Macrae, Fyfe, Oliver, Crouch, Steele, Walsh, Constable, Gibbons, Atkins & Scott

    RUCK: Grundy, Gawn & ROB

FWD: Danger, Heeney, Darling, Drew, Baker, Petruccelle, Bolton & Setterfield

Thinking of doing a double downgrade this week, off-loading Gibbons and Petruccelle out.

    Thoughts?

      1. Cheers, FT.

You were BANG on about Atkins, gave you a little shout out in the How Did You Go thread. Literally everything you said came true. My fault for not listening to you, felt greedy turning down Gibbons’ 51 at 3QT though.

And, yeah, kinda had to stick with my boy Darling after I absorbed those two lowly scores. Our run is pretty soft over the next month, hopefully Darling and the team get back to their 2018 form.

    2. Hard to see you upgrading to anyone of note this week with a simple ‘1up, 1down’. Might have to go the double downgrade and have some patience for next week. Luckily you have plenty of trades up your sleeve…….

  7. Here’s my team before any trades this week.

I’m ranked 7770 with 24 trades in hand.

Whitfield, Sicily, Williams, B Smith, Moore, Duursma.
    ( Clark, Burgess )

Cripps, Oliver, M Crouch, Sloane, Rocky, Walsh, Ross, Atkins.
    ( Constable, Setterfield, Scott )

    Grundy, Gawn, ( ROB )

Danger, Heeney, T Kelly, Dunkley, Drew, Baker.
    ( Petruccelle, Bines )

Looking to maybe double down this week, Clark to Answerth, and Petruccelle to D Moore.( Hawks)

I’m just not sure Hatley will be named. I also want some forward cover with doubts on Danger and Setters. Surely he gets a game this week.

Upgrade targets pre Byes are Lloyd, Macrea and a forward without the R13 bye.

I’m just not sold on the Hobbit. Mr Magnets and all.
I might try a POD in J Cameron or Mundy if I can get them for the right price.

I’m really hoping to crack the top 3k pre Byes, and finish top one thousand.

Thanks to everyone on this great site. I’m not sure how I’d go without all the amazing stats and wise council.

Best of luck to everyone for the rest of 2019.

    1. Not a bad position to be in at this stage. Just a shame that you missed out on Stack. Looks like double downgrade is the go this week then you got enough to turn one of your Port rookies into Lloyd or Macrae next week……..

      2

      1. Thanks Schwartz.

I’m pretty sure on Clark to Answerth.

My second trade will either be Petruccelle to Moore / Corbett.

Saving $ for Lloyd or Macrea next week.

With major doubts on Dangers fitness. I also have the option to get Westhoff at F5. This would save me playing a Setterfield / Corbett if I have to bench Danger.
This would only leave me $80k though, and make it more difficult to get to those Uber Premo’s next week.

Many things to consider really. Hopefully I can double down ,as I don’t want to miss any more juicy downgrade options.

Thanks for your comments guys and best of luck for the rest of the year. 🙂

Fwd: Danger Heeney Dunkley Drew Parker Petruccelle (Setterfield Bines)

Looking to make some big adjustments to this fwd line as 3 rookies still fielded needs to change. I want to bring in Macrae next week but to do that nothing happens to the fwd line. Gibbons and Petruccelle look like the offload target but only 460k for a fwd premo doesn’t give many options.
    Tough choice this week

    1. If you’re hell-bent on bringing in a FWD premo, you might have to make a move early on Drew otherwise you’re probably looking at the double downgrade…….

      1

      1. Yeah I’m thinking double downgrade has to be the way to go. Westhoff seems like a trap and Worpel isn’t good enough.
I don’t want to go early on Drew as he is one of the only reasonable fwd rookies. Leaving the fwd rookies might actually work out well as I might get a better indication on a top 6 fwd come bye rounds and not get caught in a trap

    1. Nathan’s Gunz still looking strong. Being down to 20 trades and having Answerth already there, I’d probably wait a week or two for my rookies to appreciate in value a bit more. Good luck, Nateo!

    1. Unless you’re planning on moving Rocky or Libba out this week, then it’s probably best to (as above with Nateo) let your rookies grow in value for another week or two. Solid backline you have there!

Weakest link is my forward line. Thinking double downgrade Petrucelle and Burgess to get another premo in there.

Eventually trade Hore and possibly Duursma up to Hurn.

Midfield I’m happy with. Love to know everyone’s thoughts and advice on what I should prioritise.

    Cheers SCT fam!

Unsure where to find my overall ranking.

Future trades: Looking to make quite a few big changes. Feel like Cameron Gutrhie is a steal at 375k but alternatively ainsworth could be a good downgrade for multiple options (Scrimshaw, Collins or Clark)
As well as Heeney and Liba very much wanting to trade possibly downgrading collins to ainsworth move ainsworth to starting and clark on bench with scrimshaw until hes picked then possibly trade out libba or heeney for fyfe or cunnington unsure yet but would really appreciate the help as a new guy!

Gotta say love the website and wish i found it earlier

    1. Downgrade Collins and Constable this week then you have some good upgrades coming next week. Don’t bother with Guthrie, he’s not a top 10 MID, will just cost you an extra trade later……

    Grundy, Gawn (Bines)

Dangerfield, Heeney, D. Smith, Drew, Baker, Parker (Petrucelle, Setterfield)

Trades this week will be a combination of Butters, Clark and Petrucelle OUT for 1 premo 1 rookie (Answerth most likely) or Double downgrade this week for a double upgrade next week.

Where should I look to upgrade first, cheapest option or a specific line?

    0

    0
    1. You would want to be bringing in a fwd or defence premo, as you still have 3 rookies playing on the field in all positions and they don’t score as well as the midfield rookies. Look for the players that you will think that will score you the most points but are still reasonably priced.

      3

      -1
    2. Not having O’Brien at R3 or Stack in the middle might hurt you later on, but the lineup is strong otherwise. Plus you still have heaps of trades and a lot of cash. As tempting as it is, you might need to hold off another week with upgrades. Next week I’d be looking to upgrade to a FWD & DEF premo………….

Looking to double downgrade this week.

If my on field rookies (pray for Constable) can keep going up in price, I should be able to go full premium with the exception of Williams, Liberatore, Walsh & Greene just by downgrading all bench players and upgrading on field rookie players. Will deal with the other 4 later.

    1. Your team seems to be in pretty good shape, very solid backline & POD rookies like Wilkie & Miers are really handy. Butters looks an obvious downgrade target this week. Personally I’d wanna turn Libba into an elite MID soon. Just don’t see him being a Top10 MID from here on in……..

Not sure if i should offload D Smith and Brawshaw this week or continue to upgrade rookies as one down for 1 premo every week ..
thinking of going libba to Answerth and Constable to Neele..
Alternatively go Libba to Answerth then Petrucelle to C Daniel..

if suggestion is to trade Brayshaw and Smith, who should i prioritise this week with my 2 trades??

  18. Would love some suggestions on my team, as dropped back 5k this week in the rankings, due to Captain Dangerfield.

DEF : Lloyd, Whitfield, Z Willams, Hore, Duursma, Clark, Answerth & Burgess
MID: Cripps, Neale, Oliver, M Crouch, Coniglio, Walsh, Gibbons, Atkins, Constable, Butters & Scott
    RUCKS: Gawn, Grundy, ROB
FWD: Dangerfield, Heeney, T Kelly, C Daniel, Drew, Setterfield, Petruccelle & Parker

Main priority I guess is to build up some cash, Butters & someone else this week out, for any rookies on the bubble (I went a week early on Answerth to avoid a donut in the backline, as preferred his D/M position to L Young, as will be able to move him or Duursma into the mids at some stage.)
Due to Whitfield’s injury, I ran with 9 onfield rookies (would have been 10 except for trading in Daniel) so also in need of some upgrades, but can’t do that without the cash. I should have brought in the 2 Tigers bubble boys but didn’t so that hasn’t helped the lack of funds.

27 trades left (so far traded out Sweet, Collins & Scrimshaw & traded in ROK, Answerth & C Daniel)

Would love some thoughts for this week – Butters & who out, & who available to trade in, possibly Hately? Getting increasingly frustrated with both Cogs & M Crouch, wishing I hadn’t chosen both of them at the start of the season, instead of my preferred choice of Bont, who I had all of last year. Was lucky enough with the remainder of my starting premiums & mostly happy with rookie choices, and only having done 3 trades, gives me some hope that my team can be improved, leading up to the byes.

    Cheers

    1. Hey Lisa ( The Amazons?)

Your team actually looks very solid.

I wouldn’t worry about Cogs and M Crouch. Cogs has been hurt and will improve his out put with J Kelly and Whitfield back this week.
M Crouch is finding a heap of the ball and is only being let down by his high hand ball ratio and poor DE. Treloar and Merrett had similar problems early, and have since come good. I can see M Crouch bouncing back too.

I would advise reading Cow Talk this week just to confirm which rookies are ready to cull. Butters and Petrrucelle look the most likely at this stage.

With so many trades in hand you can afford to get a bit aggressive over the next few weeks.

I would look at a maybe double downgrade this week to build a bank. This should allow you to go 1 up 1 down for a few weeks and get in some of those juicy Fallen Premo’s on the horizon. Macrea ?

Best of luck for the rest of the year.

    TRADES: 24

    OUT:
Players to go over the next three weeks will be Petruccelle, Clark, Drew, Walsh, Duursma and likely one of Constable or Setterfield (depending on selection). Setterfield had a great game in the VFL (will be written about in this week’s ‘Around the Grounds’ piece) so am hoping for a recall. If Constable isn’t selected this week, he’ll be Fyfe in an instant!
    IN:
Immediate upgrade targets are Fyfe, Marshall (yeah I know, STK bias and maybe a wrong call but playing as a ruck represents consistent points and better value than ANY other FWD right now) and Crisp / Sicily. I really like Cameron (the wife has him), but the KPP puts me off a little and he is currently priced too high to take the punt right now. So I’ll wait.

Swinging Moore FWD through the trades, I should end up with Hore at D6, Walsh at M8 and Baker at F6, with 18 trades, some cash and some seriously fat cows (Walsh, ROB, Hore, Baker and Ross) as we approach the byes. That’s the plan anyway!

    Any feedback/advice always greatly appreciated.
    Cheers SCTers!

      1. HOLD.
I kinda treat him and Dunkley as one player (as they share the same roles). The aggregate score is consistent enough and good enough to not worry me just yet. I feel I have more pressing issues. Yes, Libba is gonna fall a lot over the next two weeks, but I expect him to bounce back. Ideally, he’d be given a break as he looks tired having not played much footy over the previous two seasons.
It may turn out to be the wrong decision, but holding fat on Heeney and Dunks turned out to be the right call. And if I’m right, I’ll also save a trade 🙂

        1. I hear you allsaints.

I was kinda joking about Libba to Dunkley.

My thinking is it was worth holding Dunkley and Heeney as there was so much uncertainty about who could be the top 6/8 forwards this year.

For me Libba is a bit of a different story. He looks increasing less likely to finish high enough to be a midfield keeper.
In this respect he should really be seen as an expensive cash cow. He has made his money, and when he starts losing it, he can be moved on. If you have a benched cow like Ross who is capable of scoring similar to Libba, I would down grade him.
If not he is an easy upgrade to a Fallen Premium.

Beware of Fyfe, he is still likely to miss some games this year. I would be hoping Libba goes well enough this week to trade him to Macrea ( same Bye ) next week for only around $120k.

Remember Macrea started at $670k and Libba at only $300k.
Forking out under $150K to swap them over is a fricken bargain.

Best of luck whatever you decide.

Oh and congrats on your great start to the year.

          1. Thanks FT and I agree to a degree. Am still tossing up what the right thing to do is. But it has to be this week really, doesn’t it?
I feel keener to get rid of Walsh than Libba to be honest. Cruel I know, but he’s likely close to done in cash growth!
I feel Libba, like Williams and BSmith, can be held until his bye. Big ceilings, more hardened bodies, more durable thus more likely to maintain their averages.

I’m also gonna be pushed to get rid of all my cows as they fatten and before they start falling. I’ll wait until the end of the week and see which bubble-rookies present themselves before making any decisions.

For what it’s worth, I think I prefer Fyfe over Macrae. Mr Magnets is playing havoc with both my sanity and judgment!

Thanks again and good luck. Nice comeback after your start. Looks like you’re well on track!

            1. Cheers mate.

I have stumbled into some low scores nearly every round, Rocky , T kelly etc..but somehow managed to nail most of most Captains picks to stay in it.

For my sanity I can’t pick Fyfe. I advise against you going Marshall. He is young, and its a long year.

It will turn out wrong ,and you will find it hard to forgive him.

Go the Hoff. He is also Bye friendly and cheaper and as the season rolls on will find himself filling many roles in Ports team. Mr Fixit could easily average 90+ from here.

And… this is the clincher for me. when you trade out ROB you get Ruck cover too.

Depending on selections ( Danger ) I may even go him this week.

      1. I’m raging about brayshaw Allsaints but I’m really unsure what to do with him I don’t know if I need to focus on my rookies first and pray he comes good or trade him up to a Fyfe 7 rounds in and yet to show a whole lot. Libba I need to move on somehow with a BE of 145 he’s losing huge cash especially if he scores another 70 odd. I bought him for exactly this a nice stepping stone to an Uber. I think he will be a priority this.

Round 8: For this week I will mostly try to double downgrade, praying on selections that Whitfield is back, Danger is fit and if Answerth and Hately hold their positions. If both Answerth and Hately hold their positions in their squads I will double downgrade Butters and Petrucelle via Burgess. This will give me 24 trades left and 300k to spend and also Hately will play on field over Hayes.

    Round 9:
Hoping to make a double upgrade if funds permit with players such as Clark, Drew, Setterfield and Duursma the most likely to be traded out. Players like Caleb Daniel, Fyfe, Macrae, Boak and Lloyd seem as my biggest priorities to trade in.

  39. Hi lads

Seeing that there are a lot of good rookies I am contemplating whether to go get 2 rookies this week or a premo and a rookie. Would like to get J.Lloyd in, but I’m not sure whether I can cope with a skinny forward line.

Any thoughts would be appreciated thanks

    Week 6: Nil
Week 7: Out: Collins, Butters In: Daniel, Hayes

Happy with most of those trades, although I haven’t generated as much money as I would have liked. Traded Fyfe to Boak to improve team structure and I was worried about his next 3 weeks after concussion, but hasn’t seemed to have effected his scores.

Viewing Williams and Smith as D5-6 keepers at this stage. Was hoping for a Libba to end up as a possible M8, but not going to be the case for me.

Libba goes for a premo mid this week and will downgrade another rookie to Answerth.

Main upgrade targets: Lloyd, Hurn, Sicily, Fyfe, Macrae, Kelly and no idea at F6 (will probably just wait for a fallen premo).

That’s pretty much a full rundown of the RustySpoons so far this year. Good luck to everyone for the rest of the season.

    Fwd:
Danger, Kelly, Daniel, Worpel, Moore, Baker (Petruccelle, Bines)

Trades this week were Collins > Answerth & Libba > Daniels, with Answerth obviously pending on selections. Gives me enough funds to get Sicily/Ryan and Macrae/Bont over the next couple weeks as I need more round 12 bye players. Finished just outside top 20,000 last season, and goal was to finish inside top 10,000 this season so really happy with how i’m going so far.

I’ve got 23 trades and $4k in the bank

Been hard done by injuries this year and bad form of players (Darling/ Lambert/ Newman)

Thinking double downgrade this week or upgrading libba to Fyfe with the above move

Could also move on scrimshaw, petrucelle, constable or gibbons even drew or duursma
