Well here it is. An example of a pure Guns & Rookies team. It uses a healthy amount of DPP’s to give you that extra flexibility you need to cover byes and contains some of the greatest players in the game today.
DEF: B. Goddard (Mid) (VC), B. Gibbs (Mid), G. Broughton, J. Grimes, A. Otten, N. Duigan, N. Lower (M. Coad, J. Toy, P. Puopolo (E))
MID: D. Swan (C), J. Selwood, M. Boyd, A. Goodes (Fwd), D. Heppell (Bac), R. Conca (D. Swallow, D. Harris, J. Irons (E))
RUC: A. Sandilands, D. Cox (Z. Smith, B. McCauley)
FWD: N. Riewoldt, L. Franklin, M. Pavlich (Mid), C. Rioli, S. Johnson, A. Krakouer, L. Tapscott (S. McKernan (Bac), J. Darling (E), B. Matera)
CASH LEFT: $68,500
Once again, don’t pay too much attention to the rookies that have been used. They can be swapped out once the teams are announced on Thursday night.
So what do you think? Would coming up against this team in Round 1 worry you?

You stole all my Backs, Mottsy :D, expect for bench players.
See you’ve jumped on the Tapscott wagon!
I’ve already seen a lot of teams with those backs PA. I reckon that backline will be the template in 2011.
Except for Deano’s team. He’ll have Superthighs in there somewhere.
I’m jumping on any bandwagon that’s heading to Playinginroundonetown.
Still tossing up between him and Grimey! I prefer Duff to Broughton too.
You’re always tossing over Hurny, Deano :D.
Hey Motts, completely off topic, but just out of curiousity, where is Marc Murphy at? I’ve got him in my midfield at the moment, and scored a massive 201 points I think quite a few weeks ago vs. GWS, but havn’t seen him take field with Carlton for a while now. If his not in top form, who would you select as a replacement? Thanks heaps!
That’s why I can’t choose – I keep falling asleep afterwards!!!!
If you haven’t got Swan or Daisy already in your midfield, I’d go Pendles. A lot of different commentators have him getting even better this year.
SCT just got tweeted by one of our faithful readers, Robby King (@robbyking811), and it made me giggle:
“I regard today as a #tweakathon…been going since midnite. #gotnolife #scnerd”
I’m sure he’s not Robinson Crusoe on that one.
I hope that a few people find it appealing as give or a take a few guns it close to what I am running… but not surprising given we are all feeding off the same advice!
I am really looking forward to seeing what my opposing coach in the opening league match comes up with come round one… so much more going on this year than just picking the best team.
This is very similar to my team.
Btw who’s starting to get nervous, the deadline is near!
I see in the comments up there that deano prefers Duffy over broughts, u don’t want to know how many times I’ve swapped between the two and still not settled
No one prepared to admit they’d be worried if they saw their opponent had this team on Thursday night?
3 more sleeps!!!
114 coaches online!!!
Think you’ve got a bit of work to do between now and then to tweak it Motts.
That ain’t my team, D. My team is MUCH better than that 😀
Of the 3 examples I’ve posted though, I do think this is the best team and will be following a G’n’R strategy myself this year.
Come to think of it, I haven’t offered up a blend team yet. There’s something for me to do tomorrow.
yeah ..try 141 coaches online yesterday…record this year..
Now that’s what we’re talking about!!!
141 coaches great stuff!
Just on S Mckernan at the Crows. In the absence of Kurt Tippett, will probably play round 1, however Crows have bye in round 2 and all reports Tippett will be back with Jacobs in round 3, which begs the question would they play Tippett, Walker, Jacobs and Mckernan in the same team, in my opinion no, therefore in this case I can’t see him going up in value if he ain’t going to get much game time. Just a thought in case you had Mckernan currently in your team.
Nice analysis BK. McKernan is a D/M DPP but regardless of whether he’s sitting on the pine in your back or forward line, if the Cows ain’t playin’ him, he ain’t goin’ up in price.
I currently have McKernan but thinking of trading him or Richardson from NTH out to bring in Ruck/FWD Tippet from GC. So can swap with Petrie.
Who would you tade out?
And i know alot of people have either Danger or knights in the FWD line already so not many people have Walker – but seriously think this kid will have some huge games this year. Had flashes last year and then has torn it up in the pre season. Anyone starting with him??
GNR strategy is the one and only way. It takes away all of the stress about worrying about mid pricers performing or not. Really in the end those mid pricers will be upgraded to guns anyways so save yourself the trouble and go for the guns from the start. Lock them away and then just focus on the players under 200k. Start with 14 guns 8 players under 200k. milk them to 250-300k trade them in and get another gun.
Here is my team
B: Goddard, Gibbs, Broughton, Grimes, Otten, Duigan, Lower
Coad, Stanley, Lower
M: Swan, Judd, Selwood, Boyd, Krakouer, Heppell
Swallow, Harris, Irons
R: Sandilands, Cox
Jtippett Smith
F: Riewoldt, Franklin, Goodes, Johnson, Yarran, Richardson, Darling
Petrie, prestia, matera
Please let me know what you think of my team!!! I really dont think it could be any simpler. Foley, Anthony, Kennedy…. haha. They are all going to be upgraded anyways. Save yourself the effort. Motts you are right the GnR strategy is the way to go!
Nice team Dansmen
I was looking at Toy but changed to Stanley as he is a much better option who should start on the ground. Couple of others to consider are young Polek and Bewick from Brisbane and Hibberd from the bombers.
I too will be going the GNR strategy in both SC and DT
Gook luck all
Spiff
Thanks spiff for your comment. I agree with you on Stanley all the way. Also my second lower was hibberd. Am looking at changing irons as i have around 20k still remaining. bewick or even beams from brissy are good also curnow from carlton if he gets named. Good luck spiff!
