Keeffe went from a suspected serious knee injury in the first quarter, to being thrown forward to score 3 goals and 2 behinds from 8 disposals. 6 contested possessions, 2 tackles and 4 1%ers pushed his score to 84 points. Where was this last year at 123k?

Wilkie was the only Saint to go with 100% DE against the Suns in which he had 11 disposals (6 kicks) at over 50% contested rate tied in with 4 marks (2 contested), 2 tackles and a 2nd ground high 9 1%ers, he well earned his 70 points.

Clark took the game on and looks perfectly suited to SuperCoach. 17 disposals (14 kicks) at 82% DE is exactly what we want to be seeing. Moving all over the ground he finished equal team 2nd high for rebound 50s (4) and equal team 4th high for inside 50s (5) to go with 4 marks and 4 1%ers for 69 points.

Joyce lost a whopping 45 points to clangers (6 being free kicks against) so its a mighty effort that he finished on 67 points. That said, 18 disposals (10 kicks) and 53% contested rate, 3 marks, 2 tackles and a game high 11 1%ers was a great turnaround from his last senior AFL game (-3 from 72% TOG) in 2018.

Port Adelaide duo Duursma and Rozee debuted against Melbourne and walked away with a pair of 67s. Both taking 5 marks and 13 uncontested possessions, Rozee laid 5 tackles whilst Duursma crept forward to slot a goal. Hinkley sung praise after the game saying its the best win he’s ever had as he loved the attack and eagerness of all the kids.

Hore and Scrimshaw both had very quite first halves but managed to scrape  to 58 and 56 respectively. Hore had 14 disposals with 50% contested and Scrimshaw had 11 disposals at 73% contested to go with 5 tackles. Both had 2 marks and 2 1%ers to round out their opening game of 2019.

McKay had a hard day at the office as a key defender against the most attacking team in the league. Finishing with 9 disposals (3 kicks) at 89% DE, he had 4 marks, 4 tackles and a 2nd team high 9 1%ers. In a lower scoring game, he would have scored quite well but just managed 49 points. Good job security, but scoring potential is quite low.

Burgess kicked a goal and had an assist, but that was about all from his 4 disposals to finish on 28 points. If he can’t score well as a forward against St Kilda, who can he score well against?

Collins had 100% of his possessions being intercepts with 2 being contested marks which are SuperCoach gold. But forced to play 1v1, he just had the 5 disposals and 3 clangers for 27 points.

Scott was about the only good thing that came out of the Roos game (if you are a Roos fan that is). Racking up a tidy 21 disposals (11 kicks) at 91% DE, he had took a team high 8 marks, laid 2 tackles and an equal team high 2 goals for 103 points. Despite his small frame, he looks right at home running through the middle.

Constable is still trying to build his midfield tank and was Geelongs second lowest TOG player but that didn’t bother him as he still had 21 disposals (9 kicks) at 86% DE and despite only having 5 contested possessions, he finished on 85 points. 4 marks, 3 tackles and a goal rounded out his senior debut.

Davies-Uniacke just didn’t get going in his 7 games of 2018 but his Rd1 performance against Fremantle is his best SuperCoach outing to date. Picking up 15 disposals (7 kicks) at 80% DE, he had 7 contested possessions, 5 marks, 3 tackles and a goal for 80 points.

Walsh has been talked up about his huge running tank and showed exactly why clocking up over 15km (highest on ground) in the season opener. Has natural game awareness and can find the ball, racking up 24 disposals (16 kicks) but appeared a little rushed at times resulting in 6 clangers and a DE of 54%. He took 6 marks, had 4 clearances and had an equal team high 5 inside 50s for 68 points. Has lots of potential with the cleaner hands had showed during JLT.

Butters is the third of the Port rookies to walk away with a 67 SuperCoach score in their debut game. With a low contested (30%) and DE (54% – 3rd lowest on ground) game, Butters relied on 3 tackles and a couple of goals to boost his score. Played very well and didn’t hesitate to slow the game down and assess his options, even if it resulted in a turnover or two.

Sparrow was unsighted over JLT and was a late in making it a tough choice if he was worth the punt. Loves a kick, 12 of his 14 disposals (71% DE) were by foot and all 3 of his tackles resulted in a free kick for with a goal in the first quarter pushing his score just over our expectations to 62 points.

Wagner has been around for years and waltzed down the road from Arden Park during last years trade period. The 22 year old picked up 14 disposals (11 kicks) at 71% DE in his new colours to finish on 61 points. He also had 4 marks (1 contested) and 4 tackles in his first senior game since 2017.

Atkins was bought into the team for forward pressure and that’s exactly what he did. Laying a team 3rd high 5 tackles, he had 2 goal assists from 9 disposals and 2 marks. He gave away 2 free kicks and had 2 direct turnovers reducing his score to 57.

Jones joins the goal kicking on debut club but was otherwise pretty quite getting his hands on the ball just the 9 times. 3 kicks, 3 marks, 4 tackles and the goal got him to 53 points.

B.Smith had quite the 3rd quarter but recorded 0 points in the 1st and 4th with just a couple in the 2nd. Finishing on 33 points, he had 8 disposals (4 kicks) at 63% DE and 4 tackles.

Gibbons played that small forward role we saw throughout the JLT and 11 disposals (5 kicks) at 73% DE, 2 marks and 3 tackles resulted in 35 points. We saw in JLT1 he needs to kick goals to score playing this role and he unfortunately didn’t have any against Richmond.

Drew was touted to be the one to make way once Wines returns from injury but he will be might stiff to get dropped after his AFL debut. Waiting a few years to make his debut, he took the game on and finished with 21 disposals (11 kicks) at 81% DE, 10 contested possessions, 4 marks, 4 clearances, 5 tackles, 2 1%ers and a goal assist to break the SuperCoach tonne (103) in his first outing.

Parker, expected to play small forward, was everywhere but in the first half scoring ~75% of his 87 points. Finishing with 17 disposals (11 kicks) at 71% DE and 47% contested, he kicked 2 goals (plus 2 out of bounds on the full), had a second team high 7 inside 50s, 5 marks, 3 tackles and assisted in 2 other goals.

Setterfield showed why he was a top 5 draft pick in 2016 and a very safe pick for our forward lines this season. Picked up 24 disposals (14 kicks), he looked a little rusty in his first senior AFL game since 2017 with 50% DE but will be good for the run. Taking 2 marks he also had 3 clearances, 3 1%ers, 2 goal assists and a behind for 69 points.

Schultz has barley been sighted this pre-season but that didn’t stop him on getting in on the action. Kicking 1 goal in your AFL debut is great but kicking 2 is the cherry on top. Picking up 17 disposals (11 kicks), he was let down by a 59% DE but 6 marks and a couple of tackles helped him to 54 points.

Blakely joins the club of scoring a goal on debut and playing forward, had 10 disposals (6 kicks). A mark and a goal assist got him to 46 points.

Petrucelle got the nod as expected to take over from the retired Cripps. He just managed 2 contested possessions (equal ground lowest) from his 10 disposals. Other than 2 marks, 3 tackles and a goal assist he struggled to hit the stat board and finished on 44 points.

Lukosius was always going to low scorer to start his career and 55% DE for 11 disposals tied in with 3 clangers held him to 42 in his debut showing he’s not quite worth the price tag. Managed 2 goal assists, but will need to hit the scoreboard himself to score well.

Miers is a player you can’t miss with a head full of dreadlocks and his team mates got him the ball on 11 occasions and Miers got 6 of them away by foot at 73% DE. Managed to lay 3 tackles but only 3 contested possessions held his score down to 37.

Brander joined his Eagles rookie friend with 2 contested possessions but got all his 8 disposals away by foot. He had a team high 7 marks and 2 behinds but the low contested rate really hurt his score holding him back to 36.

Balta had questionable JS with Lynch in the looms but when named alongside him and Riewoldt, it looked like Hardwick had a spot for him. He didn’t make the most of his opportunity and his JLT1 Qtr2 heroics seems a long time ago. Just managed 5 disposals (all kicks) and an early goal but 5 clangers held him back to 18 points. He played KPD in the VFL and with Rances ACL injury, this might be his saving grace.

  1. Didn’t go Wilkie or Joyce. Will be watching closely this weekend to see if I swap one for Collins.

  2. Really tempted to swap balta to parker after that putrid score but I know I should give it another game.

    1. I think at this point it’s best to just avoid all Suns for the next 4-5 years. Only then can we even contemplate putting one of them in our team…

    2. Well done. I doubled down on those bad boys.

Yeh look, Burgess is on me, but had (have?) high hopes for Collins. Some easier fixtures to start the year who he could potentially feast off poor 50 entries but he can’t be playing lockdown. A watch this week.

See how he lines up against the might of Lobb, Tabs, McCarthy and Hogan (?) this week 😉

  3. Man I hate the Thursday games, wanted to take a punt on Shultz, but ended up going Balta because Shultz was on extended bench

talking about on tthe internet. You certainly realize how tto bring an issue to light and
make it important. More people have too check this
out and unbderstand this side of your story. I was surprised you are not more popular given that you certainly possezs the gift.
