Collingwood blooded their first rookie for 2019 in Quaynor who was picked up at #13 in last years draft. Known for his dashing defending prowess, he put those on full display against Hawthorn and finished with 18 disposals (11 kicks) across half back. Taking 7 marks, he also had 4 rebound 50s, 4 tackles, 2 1%ers and a goal assist to finish on 82 points. One to watch in the coming weeks although it’s a shame his price is a little elevated.
Names in football don’t come much more interesting than Eggmolesse-Smith but Richmond gave their 2018 next generation pick a debut against the Suns. A speedy left footer, he finished with 19 disposals (11 kicks) at 79% DE to go with 2 marks, 4 rebound 50s and 3 tackles for 77 points. Earnt praise from Hardwick post match but a game against GWS next week will be a little tougher one would imagine….

Newbies
Dunkley, of the Kyle variety and the brother of Josh at the Bulldogs, was picked up in this years mid season draft and had already impressed enough to be given his AFL debut. Midfielder who can play forward, finished with 11 disposals (7 kicks), 2 marks, 5 tackles and 3 goal assists but 4 clangers and a DE of 64% held him back to 58 points otherwise a solid all-rounded debut.

Hawthorns small forward Hanrahan was given a run through the middle against Collingwood allowing him to collect 16 disposals for the match. Finishing with 7 contested possessions and going at an efficiency of 63%, he took 3 marks, laid 3 tackles and booted a couple of goals for 85 points. Looks right at home and on the bubble but will have inconsistent scoring if not allowed to roam.

of these 4, who’s most likely to hold their spot and offer decent cover through SC finals?
Great write up Hutta.
In JS order.
1. Quaynor
Good run off the backline, will grow in confidence from the run. The only concern is that it was reported in today’s paper that John Noble 102,900(MID) is likely to get a run, by all reports play’s a similar role.
2. Hanrahan
As Hutta said, didn’t look out of place on Friday night, good signs that he is allowed to have a run in the middle at such an early stage. Clarko may persist with this strategy.
I can see JKelly and GWS are going to kill my season. For my own sanity in 2020, I may seriously consider no GWS players. Madness I know, given how they take a monster share of the SCpts pie each and every week. Just don’t want the pain and it somewhat limits the fun 😉
On a positive note, and for those who like a risk AND only have few trades left, there are a couple of non-rookie options who should serve you well since their new coaches have been employed and their roles have consequently changed significantly.
They are:
Jy SIMPKIN, NTH, FWD, $388 400
Once considered a possible breakout contender, now playing midfield, he has a 2Rd ave. of 115.5 and a BE of -1
Jack SILVAGNI, CAR, DEF/FWD, $279 400
Scored 60pts in the second half against FRE after being put on Fyfe and 109 last week playing a run with role in the midfield against the Dees. He also has a negative BE: -16
Neither are options for the faint-hearted, but could be very shrewd moves for those who have nothing to lose and they retain these new roles for the run home 🙂
If I’m brave enough Cameron to Simpkin might be my only trade this week!
Allsaints thanks! Amazes me the amount of detail, background work you SCT coaches go to… you must have a very understanding leader of the opposition (wife/partner)
Any idea at all as to ‘Whats happened to Patty Naish ?
not on any injury list & seemed to be playing ok !
Just too many first 22 INs at Tigerland I reckon
It took an injury list of 12 Tigers before Naish got his debut. That list is shrinking slowly and Naish will struggle to get a game in the 1s. No doubt the kid can play but we have enough outside runners at the moment……
With all the young guys blooded this year I’d hate to be Hardwick having to pick the best 22 at the start of 2020.
For the coach/club – it’s a pretty nice dilemma to have though
