My Top Five (maybe 6) Rookies (<$200k) of the week:
1) J Gysberts (Mid 129k) I called it last week, and of all cheap rookies available he is a stand-out, and this kid can really play. He was taken pick number 11 in the 2009 Nation draft…. And despite missing out on top 10 billing, he looks like he has what it takes. From what I have seen and heard he was essentially touted as the Dee’s best player in his first two matches. Gysberts scored well again this week with another 84 giving him an average of 89 after two and likely to have a massive jump in price next week.
2) D Stewart (Fwd 125k) Stewart played a few games during the NAB Cup and impressed. He’s now stung together a few games in the seniors, and with competition like Hitchcock on the sidelines for a while, he should get lots of opportunity. He scored 45 on the weekend and with lack of rookie competition scored the number 2 spot.
3) T Hunt (Def 100k) He’s cheap, he played ok and did enough to keep his spot….. He scored 50 in his first game. However, job security will be his biggest issue with half of the cats team on the sidelines for a few weeks and he might get a couple of runs, but I wouldn’t expect him to be there long term.
4) W Skipper (Ruck 167k), D Simpson (Ruck 100k) & R Stanley (Ruck 119k) So last week they scored 53, 31 & 35 respectively. None of them will set the world on fire… and surely you would only need one for your bench as a cash-in or a back-up…. In particular, if you want to cash-in Trengrove like I did last week, or you have no bench to cover for Hille. Last week I took Stanley for Trengrove and pocketed 150k, and now I’ve lost Hille….. so if you’re looking to cash-in I suggest Stanley or Simpson, if you genuinely need someone as back-up I’d get Skipper.
Tell what you think? And what Rooks your looking at trading in this week? …. Severe shortage of good rookies this week (Gysberts excluded).

Re: “Hitchcock on the sidelines for a while”
He’s not listed on the Injury List so on what do you base this?

“Will likely require surgery at some stage” (injuryupdate). If Port’s form continues to slide to the point that they look unlikely to make the finals, I’d reckon they’ll take the surgery option sooner rather that later because he’s not a big name. Having said that, it’s only June and they’ll play him if he’s fit and playing well.

Heard Chocco on 5aa this arvo and he’s got a serious case of man-love for Hitchcock. Doesn’t guarantee a game, though, especially if surgery recommended.
Thanks, Mike, for your input. I stopped looking at injuryupdate a while ago due to it being constantly inaccurate and/or outdated. Maybe it’s improved.
Thanks also to you, BS, for your response (below).

Hitchcock comment was based on seeing the injury, looked bad. And surprised he’s not on the injury list…. And didn’t play last week.

thoughts on this trade this week. out goes hille, in comes angus graham. (already have kreuz, and no bench cover unless warnock plays.) he has only played the last 4 games but has averaged 102 in those and with big simmo out will get more game time and his spot should be secured. downside is he plays for richmond…but what do you all think??

I don’t understand why everyone i stalking about trading out Hille. He’ll be out for two, three at the most cause of the split round. In my opinion he’s a keeper unless you are trading up to one of the key rucks from the west. Otherwise, straight swap, Warnock Skipper seems logical. This provides you with three playing rucks for the back half of the season.

Big Sexy, If you plan to keep Hille then don’t trade because Stanley gets dropped. Have to weigh up points vs trades/cash. Stanley aint going to offer you that much anyway, so you need to decide if you want Hille for the rest of the season or not? Kruezer sideways or Cox upgrade fwiw

Do people think that Gysberts has a good job security and is likely to play out the season? Could he be relied upon as someone who can replace a starter in case of injury?

JS is fine for Jizzbits HGL, my only concern with him is his last half fade outs maybe he needs to build up his tank a bit more, he might need to go back to the magoos to do so which means he may miss a game here and there during the season. But as bench coverage goes he should be a good pick up.

I think he’d be awesome bench cover for finals, esp if you run out of trades and have to play someone off the bench….. personally i already have Rohan as strong bench coverage and hoping Shuey will play again… though toying with changing Shuey for Jizzbits.

I’ve got Rohan & JKT who doesn’t seem to playing anytime soon. P.A assessment on Jizzbits tank is sound, so I wont cash him in for Rohan, but I might be able to swap him for JKT, after I deal out Maguire, depending on if I can swing a Gia for Chapman trade.

Good move, I had JKT and he wont be back in a hurry… he’s rubbish. I upgraded him to Rohan…. and would definitely consider upgrading him Jizzbits.

I’d keep Higgins if you have ROK. As long as you have cover on the bench then I wouldn’t trade him.

keep an eye out for Jesse O’Brien and Bryce Retzlaff, the lions might bring one of these guys in this week to replace Ash and Goose.

And Daniel Talia from the Crows (pick13 in last year draft) with Davis and Mcleod going down and Edwards retiring, there are now some positions opened for him.
