Rookie Review Round 13

by Big Sexy on June 30, 2010

My Top Five Rookies (<$200k) of the week:

1)    M Jaensch (Fwd 207k) I only keep players on the list one week after they jump over the 200k mark, and usually I don’t let them rate a mention in the top 5 as they close in on the 200k mark….  This week I make an exception.  Jaensch scored 104, he has an average of 72 and only returned to the team after being dropped for discipline issues.  He’s proving very solid, and no coincidence Crows form has been better with him on board.

2)    R Henderson (Def/Fwd 127k) was number one last week and is still great value…. Surprised his price didn’t jump more… particularly given he got a 65 this week.  Anyway still great value Fwd/Def bench player.

3)    D Roberton (Def 154k) came back into the Freo side after a stint in the WAFL and got plenty of it… again scoring 61.  So if he stays in the team he knows how to score SC points.  I grabbed him last week to cash in Maguire when I saw him get named…. But still good value.

4)    T Bellchambers (Ruck 138k) is scoring better than expected with another solid performance with 68.  With Kreuzer out for the season and Hille re-injuring his hammy you may need a ruck on your bench, and I’m more than happy with 60+ from a bench ruck. So may be worth some thought… esp if you have Hille on the bench as he’ll be playing as long as Hille isn’t.

5)    K Stevens (Mid 94k) Has only played the one, but opposed to popular thought there aren’t too many new rookie Mids kicking around this time of year, so keep your eye on this fella, very cheap… but wait until next week if you can.

Tell what you think?  And what Rooks your looking at trading in this week? ….

Here’s the raw data:

Thanks boyz… apologies for the late post, but time of year has got me with the flu…. flip side, it’s good to know someone is reading it :)

Did we confirm if they are giving us a partial lockout this week?

No partial lockout this week, which suxs because we won’t know Sunday’s final teams.

Big watch on Jeff Strijker this week as he is likely to move into the back half with Hurny out which is where he has excelled in the WAFL as a rebounder. Could be an invaluable late season downgrade target that produces the Broughton/Grimes type scores from last year’s struggling teams.

Thanks Deano,
Good point, Strijk has played the one and got 48… and got piped by Stevens for 5th place… but very likely he’ll be high up the list next week if he puts in a good one.

should i trade out Leon Davis, i’ve had him all season and he’s killing me!
should i finally bite the bullet and get rid, or is he about to erupt and bang home a few tons?

No use trading him now Matt as his price is that low that the only other player of his calibre with the extent of potential upside is Fev and he won’t play another AFL game.

You reckon he will average more than Neon for the rest of the season?
If you’re that sold on getting rid of him and want to earn for an upgrade elsewhere then I’d look at a rookie like Stevens/Henderson to maximise the $$$.
Jaensch won’t be playing the Dees every week at AAMI – don’t forget Gysberts/KT and Muston from last year when it comes to chasing points so be aware.

I wanna cash in Matt Maguire.

Who should I trade him in for?
- Ricky Henderson (Adelaide)
- Taylor Hunt (Geelong)

Yeah, I reckon it will come down to the forwards- i have a slight advantage in defence, u win rucks and mids, and it will go down to the wire…match of the year so far for me…i have a couple of players back, an addition or two to my team, it will be interesting.

Cam, Motts is easy pickings!! I (Jackben) touched him up nicely last week with a 2470, considering I had Kruz and Goodes!! haha

haha we will wait and see..my team hasn’t cracked any big scores yet, im hoping i do this week though. Lowest is 2095, with only 20 players, highest 2247… avg 2181….ive got a full strength team this week, hopefully i can knock motts off. Motts is 1st, 2 games ahead of me, im 3rd, so hopefully i can bridge the gap.

Would you trade Nic Nat down to Bellchambers for the purposes of saving 130 odd and upgrading an anemic backline?
