Rookie Review – Round 16

Written by Alza on July 4 2023

12 Rookies scored 80 or more this week although it didn’t come at an ideal time with likely only 1 or 2 of them actually on field currently. As I have said a number of times this year look for job security in the rookies that you are targeting. Fogarty and Cunningham should hold their spots for a while now with some good performances so far from them and with wins in both games.

Players on the bubble are marked with an asterisk.

The Good: Henry has gone back-to-back great games, again on the back of over 30 touches. This week he had 33 at 79% with 6 marks, 3 tackles and 6 score involvements. Sheldrick continues to impress with another great game against the Cats. He had 21 touches at 81% with 6 marks, 6 tackles, 3 clearances and 8 score involvements. Fogarty and Cunningham both had excellent games in their 2nd games. Fogarty had 18 touches at 78% with 3 marks, 7 tackles, 11 score involvements and a goal while Cunningham kicked 2 goals with 16 touches at 88%, 4 marks and 4 tackles. Both seem like decent options to bring in this week.

The Bad: Harrison was the sub but did manage 35% TOG for his 2 touches.

    1. Would’ve been nice that’s for sure.
Now they’re making money and scoring well and we need to decide if we trade them now for our last upgrades or wait a week on them

  1. Who’s the best chance to hold their spot or is it 50/50?
    TU: Fogarty
    TD: Cunningham

    1. I think Fogarty because I am more familiar with him and not at all with Cunningham.
He has played games the last couple of years even starting the year in great form a couple of years ago.

    1. Depends what you mean by low. Do you mean low 5 or low 1?
Depends on bench cover, loops, a whole heap of factors.

      1. Four trades left…only one other rookie on the field – Sheldrick – with five active rookies on the bench. But
        only $42,000 k itb.

    2. This is a tough one. His score really depends on if he is at the Gabba or not.

So far he is averaging 100 at the Gabba and 64 outside. Of his 8 final games, he has 4 more games at the Gabba, so if you hold those averages he should be around 82 per week average – but expect a roller coaster!

      1. Yep, already expecting a roller coaster ride. But have only four trades left and as you said, he does well if playing up north.

    3. John A, I agree with the points made earlier. He can be a keeper if you need him to be. There are still 8 weeks to go so he seems like someone you may just need to hold and upgrade in the last couple of weeks depending on your trades. His scoring isn’t too bad and even better if you can loop him with Sheldrick/Wardlaw or Johnson.

  2. Not enough trades left to access cash generation, but loving the rookie loopholes… benefitted from Sheldrick 102 enabling me to match Steele who’s poor form continued.
