BS Rookie Review Round 13

Written by Big Sexy on June 25 2013

Rookies on the radar (<$200k) this week:

1)    B Wilson (Def $115k)  My mate Blayne (did I mention how much I love that name) racked up his second game and showed he knows how to use the ball by foot.  I feel his JS got a bit of a boost now Hurn has gone down.  Blayne had 21 disposals, 10 marks and 89 points in his last hit out, and had 15 disposals, 3 marks and 56 points in his second run.  Depending on how long Hurn is out, I feel Blayne might get a few bonus games and opportunity to prove himself.

2)    J Daniher (Fwd $154k) Joey is coming off the Bye, and will be interested to see how many more runs he gets with the competition for big-forward spots at bomber land.  Joey spat out scores of 55 and 98 before the team had a rest, and if you’re looking for a forward on the bubble, then keep your eye out for Joe on the selection table this week.

3)    L Hunter (Mid $109k) The father-son played his first for the doggies and showed a fair bit, and I’d suggest showed more than Hrovat (in this game at least).  In his first run, Hunter had 19 disposals, 5 marks, 3 tackles and a goal resulting in 86 points.  Hold fire this week!

4)    M Clisby (Def $96k)  With a new coach comes new opportunities.  Neil Craig obviously had a preconceived idea that he’d like to play Clisby given Neeld had already played everyone else.  So I’ll assume his job security is ok, but will be interested to see how he goes next week.  Clisby is a 23yo mature age recruit and had 24 disposals and 71 points.  Hold fire for now, but if he plays well again this week I’ll seriously be looking to get him on board.

5)    No number 5 this week.  BUT, if you want a Fwd/Def to swap with Staker, make a few bucks and might play a few, then take a look at Oxley who’s not really hit the scoreboard, but technically on-the-bubble.

  1. Good work sexy, almost as good as my toast I’m knocking now,
Thoughts on this theory , with the spread of rooks across all clubs already getting game time , ie pies 7 – dogs 4 melb and port 999 I think it will be slim pickings for new blooded rookies in the twilight and finals times for us

  2. As always, gr8 write up o Sexy 1,

Looking at releasing Rowe in my forward set up & grabbing young Daniher if selected this round…now it’s only going to net me $75,000, but it will give me enough to trade Terlich to Gibbs to complete my defence!

T/U……….Like it a lot go for it, Catta.
T/D……….Not convinced with those moves, Catta.

What do you think SCT coaches?

  3. Good article as always BS, but a bit of a conundrum for me with spots 1 and 2.

Tossing up a downgrade option for Macafer. With staker being DPP I can bring in either Blayne Wilson or Daniher. Looking primarily at JS for bench cover for the rest of the year.

    Thumbs up: Blayne Wilson

    Thumbs down: Joe Daniher

  4. I reckon clisby’s js should be pretty good. Pederson will go back to the magoos when frawley returns, and grimes will replace nicholson…thats what i would do anyway!

  5. My theory is vlas and Hanley are on the slide , Hanley will bottom out 380 -400 k but vlustin will be below that , so straight swap won’t happen,

I’m gona trade vlast swing staker back , grab big joe up forward.
Rd 15 trade row, swing staker back and Hanley slides in and a bargain price
I think maccafer can hold is price for the next few weeks few easy games.

  7. trading out vlastuin. do i go:

T/U wilson, who has to start for 2-3 weeks. (or thurlow)
T/D daniher, moving staker to the backs, and starting staker for 2-3 weeks.

  8. Here’s another theory. What about jimmy toumpas, was gett f all game time under neeld. Jimmy was an absolute jet playing for the eagles in the sanfl. Has a lot of ability and may get a decent run under Craig.

  10. With Birchall out this could open the door for M Spanger to cement a spot in the Hawks back line. He’s also a (D/F) dpp along with Staker could secure good bench coverage for the rest of the season in both your back and forward lines.
