Rookie Review – Round 4

Written by Alza on April 11 2023

Another week is in the books and it seems our rookies have really started to show who the good cash generating ones are and the not so good. The current rookies that are worthy to bring in are pretty thin at the moment with van Rooyen the pick of the bunch even with limited job security followed by Ryan with Nankervis out, the expensive Judson Clarke, Young possibly with limited job security and Hewett after losing money this week but he hasn’t shown too much yet. There are a few rookies that have played 1 game but with probably 2 players currently not playing for most coaches it is best to wait a week.

Players on the bubble are marked with an asterisk.

Josh GOATER (MID)NTH$214,200DNP (53)22
Darragh JOYCEBRL$192,500 (+$13.3k)26 (44)36

The Good: Max Michalanney scored his first SC 100 with 16 touches at 75% with 9 contested and 5 marks. Add in 10 intercepts and 8 one percenters which gave his score a nice boost. McKenna has loved the extra responsibility with Rich out taking 7 kick ins but only playing on from 4 to finish with 19 touches at 63% with 3 marks and 5 tackles.

The Bad: Joyce had the 6 touches at 100% with 4 marks in a poor game SuperCoach wise hence the very low ownership.

Matthew JOHNSON*FRE$123,90014 (19)33
Matt ROBERTSSYD$110,300DNP (14)49

The Good: Ashcroft has been a great pick so far although some people may have expected slightly higher scoring from him, if he could take a few extra marks and lay a few tackles he would quickly boost it but let’s remember he has only played 4 games. This week he had 2 marks and 2 tackles as well as 26 touches at 65% with 11 contested and 4 clangers.

The Bad: Hewett played a full game but struggled with the Dees dominance. He had 8 touches with just 1 kick and 1 mark.

RUCKS

Ned MOYLEGCS$123,90064 (64)-16
Esava RATUGOLEA (FWD)GEE$215,100 (+$26.1k)88 (55)-12
Samson RYAN (FWD)RIC$156,500 (+$32.6k)44 (48)19

Ratugolea had his best game with 13 touches at 85% with 8 marks, 7 intercepts and 7 one percenters which will see his cash generation boosted. Moyle made his debut with Witts a late out. If you read the Reserves Rookie Review you know I am a huge fan of this guy and he played well with 35 hitouts, 7 tackles and 5 touches at 40%. Will likely only play with Witts out and wont score enough if he was to share the ruck duty. Ryan hasn’t set the world on fire so far but he has the potential and with Nank now out he may be the 1st ruck next week. He had 7 touches at 100% with 1 goal and 10 hitouts.

The Good: Sheezel did it again and will be over $400k after his next game. He had a massive 37 touches at 81% with 5 marks and 3 tackles. He played on from all 3 of his kick ins and had 3 clearances in a career low score of 111, crazy! Daniels had another good game and has been a great pick for 0.7% of coaches. He kicked 1.1 from 22 touches with 6 marks and 3 tackles plus 8 score involvements and 477m gained.

The Bad: McInnes started this game but never really got going and was subbed out. Had just the 2 touches with 1 mark and 1 tackle but 2 clangers. Stone wasn’t the sub this week but was subbed out after 2 touches from 61% TOG.

  1. Hope Dylan Williams can hold his spot for Port so he will be a downgrade next week and probably get my first upgrade in

    1. Hey Twitch if you’re going to bring Clarke in it needs to be this week as he will play his 3rd game and increase in value.

  2. Apparently Richmond had a few defender injuries in their VFL game on the weekend, any Richmond fans in the know and think Young can hold his place for 4+ weeks?

    1. I read the same thing and it should keep him in the side for the next month you would think. A lot of injuries to their tall players

  3. With the 2 McCartin brothers to miss this week surely… SURELY!… that supercoach unicorn that is known as Will Gould will make his debut.

If not this week I will definitely think he is not a real person.

  4. I have B Laurie as F8, avoided other problems this week, is it worth using a trade to bring in Van Rooy for cash gen. Have 31 trades. Chandler as F6 and Long as F7.
TU trade away and worth having him
TD not worth swapping out a rookie if u dont have to
