Rookie Review – Round 6

Written by Alza on April 26 2023

Round 6 is finally over and it has given us some decent rookie downgrade targets, hopefully anyway. It seems like the popular option will be to use a boost and bring in 1 premium and 2 rookies with Mitchell and Wagner the likely most popular.

Just be aware on who you are trading out. A player like Michalanney has his breakeven in line with his average and can be traded out but be sure your on field points will not be effected as he is a reliable on field option where Wilmot and Cowan are not.

Players on the bubble are marked with an asterisk.

Harry SHEEZEL (FWD)NTH$438,800 (+$7.2k)53 (102)99

The Good: Buckley was great in defence again this week with 20 touches at 80% with 7 intercepts and 6 marks as well as 5 one percenters to give him another good score. Mitchell had another good game with a massive last quarter giving his score a great boost. He finished with 15 touches at 87% with 6 marks and 3 tackles with 6 intercepts. In the last quarter he had 9 touches and 5 marks when the game was on the line, great option this week.

The Bad: Young had his worst score but is expected eventually as a key defender. He had 10 touches at 50% with 6 clangers. Joyce had pretty low TOG with 60% and only had 7 touches at 71% with 2 clangers and took 5 marks.

Time To Trade: Michalanney, Cowan

Will ASHCROFTBRL$345,900 (+$14.8k)76 (77)51
Jack BYTELSTK$160,100DNP (32)68

The Good: O’Halloran played his 2nd game of the year and kicked 3 goals from 17 touches with 6 tackles as he played a mix of forward and midfield. Probably will be passed by many with some better options this week. Ashcroft played well without dominating with 19 touches at 79% and kicked a goal, safe to hold onto longer term as his scoring is higher than most rookies.

The Bad: Rowston only managed 7 touches from 79% TOG with 2 clangers. He took 3 marks but couldn’t really get going and didn’t attend a single centre bounce.

Time To Trade: Rowston

Ryan played his best game against Grundy and Gawn. He had 10 touches with 6 marks and kicked 1.2. 11 hitouts from 36 contests is also decent considering the opposition. Ratugolea has strung some great games together now with this game of 11 touches at 91% with 5 marks and 6 intercepts. Teakle played his 1st game of the year as the main ruckman. He had 14 touches at 57% with 5 clangers, 34 hitouts, 2 marks and 2 tackles.

The Good: King kicked 5 goals to reward the coaches that have stuck with him. 10 touches at 90% with 5 marks topped it all off. Daniels had an excellent game after being managed last week. He kicked 4.1 from 20 touches at 55% with 3 marks and 4 tackles. 8 score involvements gave him a boost but 7 clangers kept him from a huge score. Chandler has been a great pick or trade in for many coaches this year. He kicked 3 goals from 12 touches at 92% this week to keep his money making days going.

The Bad: Kreuger played his 1st game of the year and struggled to eventually be subbed out after 40% TOG. He had 5 touches and 1 mark with 3 clangers. Roberts was injured after 27% game time after 3 touches, 2 marks and 1 tackle. If you have just brought him in then you may as well keep him as the early report is that it isn’t too serious of a knee injury.

Time To Trade: Mackenzie, Menzie

  1. Can’t believe after all the hype of the last two years that Will Gould won’t actually end up in any of our teams! Surely the biggest legend in SC who never made an impact.

    1. It’s a shame isn’t it as he would probably perform fairly well if not the sub.

Although he may not get a game this week or if he plays as the sub again his price may not increase too much and he could be an option

  2. Great stuff, Alza.

Good to see some rookies coming through. Wagner and Mitchell this week, then hopefully Cincotta and Simpson the next.

  3. Didn’t see the North game. What do we know about Sheezel? Was his role different due to Hall coming in. BE99… is the general consensus to give it another week and hope he retains premo-sheezel status?

      1. Yep, what Natopotato said. Also coming off a really sore thumb and bad cork to the hip area so not moving as freely.

Is a hold at the moment as was his first game under 100 so needs a chance. Just hope once he is fresh that he gets his half back role again.
