We Supercoaches put time and effort into researching our teams so when Round 1 finally arrives we can go a bit loopy: We make weird trades, start having bad dreams and forget the simple but important aspects of Supercoach.
Here’s a list of tasks that you need to remember. They seem so obvious, but forget one and it could set you well back in the race for the Holy Grail.
- THE TRAFFIC RULE
Complete your team a few hours before lock-out for each game as the high traffic before Round 1 has crashed the site multiple times in the past.
- CAPTAIN AND VICE-CAPTAINS

Don’t forget to pick a Captain and Vice-Captain. Remember that when you trade out a Captain or Vice-Captain their replacement doesn’t automatically get nominated as Captain (or VC).
- EMERGENCIES
Don’t forget to name Emergencies. I know this point seems obvious, but it happens!
- ROOKIES #1
Make sure your rookies are playing unless you are planning a floating donut.
- ROOKIES #2
Be careful with the Sunday rookies in Round 1 as they may be named on the extended bench and then cut from the final squad. Don’t be fooled by nasty AFL coaches: In some cases rookies are named on the field and still don’t make the final cut!
- ROOKIES #3 aka THE RELTON ROBERTS RULE

Just because a rookie is playing, that doesn’t mean he’s a good selection!
- THE LOOPHOLE

If you’re going to loophole a non-playing bench player make sure he DOESN’T ACTUALLY PLAY. There are few worse feelings than having a first game rookie as your Captain.
(7b. Don’t ask Motts about the 2016 Zorko loophole: Move on man!)
- THE ROLLING LOCK-OUT TRAP aka THE REVERSE TRADE RULE
This has trapped me several times. From Round 2 the rolling lock-out remains so you can still trade at any time but YOU CAN’T REVERSE TRADES.
- THE LUMUMBA

Cast a quick eye over your team – are there any players who might be preseason hype players? Pay special attention to players you have picked as they will play “more midfield time”! Spare me!
- THE LOG-OUT CHECK
When you’re done, log-out, then log back in to make the team saved correctly!

11. Don’t make last minute rash trades before lockouts. You’ve been researching and planning all this time, back your gut!
This is the best advice I can give anyone as well last year I wanted to go without Fyfe and Rockliff I had Parker and Neale instead and reversed it right before both games!!! As you said stick with you’re planning and you’re gut.
11. b. Don’t get drunk on Thursday night before the 1st game of the year and load your entire team up with Carlton players in a fit of Navy Blue fervour.
I mean you could probably get away with
DEF: Docherty, Simpson, Weitering, Plowman, Marchbank and Macreadie
I could never drink THAT much!
Ha!
12. Have replacements in mind for every player on your team, making sure they play at the same time of after the player needing to be replaced. You never know who will be a late out. I suffered a lot from not being prepared for late outs last season.
Just on that. So we can make unlimited changes all weekend to the players that haven’t played yet. So say i have hibberd in the mids and he doesn’t end up playing but wigg does i can swap them over before the games?
Yes
13. Sledge every other coach in your league individually in Psyche Out – TICK!
PS 7.b Have I told you about my MASTERSTROKE last year?
I don’t think he’s going to. Perhaps you should tell us?
I think it deserves its own post, Jacky Boy. Lets get the start of the season out of the way and I’ll take you through it in great detail.
Okay. I look forward to it.
Everyone who doesn’t want to hear about it should please give Motts a much deserved Thumbs Down!
I’ve been a victim of forgetting to set emergencies for round 1… And 2…
Is the loophole a must?
Captaincy loophole (usually on the ruck line) is a must. Pick Strnadica.
Emergency loophole on each line isn’t. You’ll end up with non-playing rookies and short term injuries that will allow you to play around with maximising your score on each of the lines.

Just remember that all you need to have sorted tonight is things that are happpening tonight. If you’re stuck between Swallow and O’Meara that doesn’t need to be sorted 3 mins before the bounce tonight.
So this guy forgot #3 in the forward line. Yeh, missed the E on Butlers 96….
