Round 1 Game 1 – Lessons Learnt?

Written by Duck on March 26 2012

I don’t know about you, but i had my fair share of GWS young guns take to the field on Saturday night, some did more than enough to warrant selection, some need to improve but all up i’m pretty happy.

J. McDonald 100, T.Bugg 88, J Giles 87 and A Kennedy 104 were part of the impressive group, while D Shiel 34 and D.Smith 55 making up the other.

I got rid of Coniglio early Saturday morning in exchange for McDonald, which freed up the necessary $ so i could upgrade my R1,  and happy i did after Coniglio’s 58.

It’s early days and i’m sure the under performers will get their share of the ball in the coming weeks.

Adam Goodes with a 90 was my only Swan on the field.

At this stage i’m satisfied with my GnR strategy, with no big changes planned before the major lockout.

Did the scores from the weekend cause you to rethink your strategy?

  2. I Learnt 4 lessons
Lesson 1- Make sure you have your team all set atleast 6-8 hours before the first bounce just in case thanks alot Herald F#ckin Sun I went to put Kennedy on the field but couldnt log on to my F#ckin Supercoach.
Lesson 2 If you dont understand the loophole completely dont do it.
Lesson 3 Just because a couple of premos ie Goodes,Mumford, are playing doesnt mean there gonna score 160 i had the “C”‘ on Mumford all week then changed to GAJ saturday arvo. Have to admit that Scatts had somthin to do with me changin my thanks champ………
Lesson 4- If you dont have Bugg,Mohr,Smith,Kennedy,Shiel or mcdonald by the time there price rises JUMPON.

  3. Hey guys

Anyone think this strategy could work?

I am slightly scared about the three rookie ruck, so what about putting Rowe in there and hale in the forwards? Then i could have a MPP going as well as having Hale who will go up in price for a possible upgrade to Cox or Sandi when the time is ripe. Any hawks supporters think much of Hale, would love to here anyones thoughts!

Thumbs up if you like the idea
    Thumbs down if you don’t

  4. Lesson learnt – I should’ve avoided James McDonald

    From the Herald Sun:

“GWS veteran James McDonald can accept a two-week suspension for his high hit on Swan Luke Parker on Saturday night.
McDonald today became the first GWS player to be cited by the match review panel after he appeared to run past the ball to flatten the Sydney midfielder.
McDonald was charged with rough conduct and the match review panel ruled the bump was negligent conduct, high impact and high contact.”
The offence was worth a three-match ban but McDonald can reduce that to two by pleading guilty.

  6. Just a quick question…

How quickly do the price rises occur? So for example, Kennedy averaged 104 this week, let’s say he averages 90 next week, then 85 the week after his average after the 3 weeks would be 93… So would he spike to 503k like what the other current 93 avg players are worth, or does it progressively increase over a longer period of time? and how long will it take to generally max value?

  7. hey guys i made a team for my girlfriend this week as sort of a giant-less (no gws players for obvious reasons) experiment, I’ve tried something a little different (loaded up in the forward line whilst going cheap on rucks after seeing mummys performance)which contrasts a lot with my other team and tried to include nearly an entirely different lineup with a few exceptions you can’t live without. let me know what you guys think

Defence: Goddard, Deledio, H Shaw, Lake, Golby, Dempsay, Guthrie (Boumann, Morris)

Midfield:G Ablett, M Murphy, J Selwood, Hayes, K Stevens, Magner (Ledger, Brown)

    Rucks: Maric, Redden (Stephenson, Rowe)

Forwards: Franklin, Pavlich, Cloke, N Riewoldt, Hurley, J Riewoldt, Porpz (Cripps, Hall)

-if anyone noticed there is a trend with all key position players in the forward line which I’m usually against because of their inconsistency but in saying that key position players have the potential to pull out huge scores, so went with something difference (hence the experiment).

  10. Really pissed off – I had Kennedy in and out of my side constantly and ended up “upgrading” him to Luke Parker who it now seems will be out for 3 weeks … Couldn’t have made a worse last-minute decision !!

  11. Kennedy is even better than I thought he’d be. Had him as an Emergency. Wishing I’d put Shiel on the bench and played Lil Tommy Ledger. Will have to wait until the weekend. Should have shown some faith in my boy.
Off topic how many goals do we think Buddy will kick this week? I have NDS as captain and Goddard as Vice. I know most of you have stated you’re nominating GAJ but is anyone considering buddy?

  14. Another player that would help my structure so much is Michael Barlow. I am not too sure about him but at his price, he should be a bargain. He is going to play round 1 and i am expecting his scores to improve to premium as the year goes on.

    Thumbs up- Put him in

Thumbs down- Injury will affect his scoring

    thanks guys

  16. I cant believe Old Mac got 3 weeks for that bump!! What a joke. He has accepted early and takes 2 weeks. But what ever happened to a good old fair hip and shoulder??! Its a contact sport but you cant do anything anymore. Watching it live on tele at the time I thought it was a good fair bump. Umpires at the time thought so and so did the commentators!

What does everyone on here think? Thumbs up good old fashion bump was fair and square. Thumbs down – was a dirty hit that decserved 3 weeks ban.

  17. Don’t know how valuable DPP will be so I have a tough choice

Ledger no DPP – Thumbs Up

Morris (Kerridge to go into mids for DPP and Smedts to go forward) – Thumbs down

Is Ledger a better prospect than Morris even if it loses a DPP option

    cheers

  25. Is 5 premium mids to many? I think a premium mid is more likely to score higher then a ruck or back, and I’m happy with my rookies in those positions and hoping for an upgrade later on, that’s why I’ve gone for the extra one in the mid thoughts?

    Thumbs up- Good Choice
Thumbs down- Swap and get another ruck or back

  26. I think I’m going to have a punt on Hodgey at M4. Think he presents good value and could average over 110. Anyone know why he hasn’t come up much this pre season. He could be a great POD.

    Thumbs up- Yes

    Thumbs down- No

    Thanks

  27. Long time reader first poster,

just wondering if anyone saw the hawthon nab cup games.
Did Hale share the ruck with McCauley?
And still belt out those massive scores?
I ask this because they are to share ruck in round one, and Hale is in my forward line…..
Are these score obtainable with McCauley in…
Come on hawks supporters shed me some light!

  28. My first poll for the year and would appreciate your clicks and comments, as a preface, I am very bullish on NN this year to make top 4 rucks.

    NicNat for 1,1,2 with Mummy as R1 thumbs up;
Heater Shaw for 1,0,3 for 1.0.3 as D3.

  29. Here are my lessons

    1) Don’t laugh at others for their bad judgement. (Folau on field or Mumford as Captain)
    2) Don’t overlook older players (McDonald)
    3) Don’t claim that Richmond will THRASH Carlton
    4) Don’t say something unless you can back it up.

  30. had Parker AND McDonald.. traded em both on on sat a couple of hrs before partial lockout because A) I already had 2 mid pricers in the Ski and Porps, B) I felt that Kennedy was a lot more beneficial to have then Old McDonald.. also, I traded out M. Clarke for Mohr.. so far, the decisions have paid of very nicely. Only early, but fingers crossed that I repaid 10 fold..

  32. how are we goin’ dudes and dudettes?
i think my team is just about settled apart from my midfield 4 spot.
can’t decide between Jimmy Bartel, Jobe Watson or spend the extra cash and get someone like Matthew Boyd or Matt Priddis.
any comments would be a huge help.
Cheers guys and good luck to everyone this season 🙂

  33. 3 spots available in experienced league in its 5th season ( 3 coaches removed from previous seasons due to non-competitive sides)

    LEAGUE 384841

League is friendly , competive and fun with strong coaches invited back for the following season / seasons. So if you’ve got a spare league and want something strong but not ridiculous strong then this is the one for you .

Cheers Guys ( and Gals) 🙂
