Pissed I didn’t believe the SCT hype on Gibbs & did anyone mention about the emergency loophole (Duigan as Emerg as if he scores well chuck a GCS on the park ) as I wish I’d known. 🙁
Watching Curnow next week along with everyone else..

  2. I’m with you Ice Man, In the last five minutes I traded out Deledio for Gibbs
I was very lucky even though I still wasn’t sure about him.
I think everyone is watching Curnow now 🙂

Not very happy with Yarran, I’m just hoping that he was tagged.
Very happy with Gibbs but didn’t try the captaincy loophole wi=hich was a big mistake.
Duigan and Conca weren’t that bad for first real AFL game

    Loophole – Gibbs

I had Cotchin in my team from day 1, never thought about changing him till the very last second before I left to go see the blue boys take on richmond, I switched him to Foley!!

Not having Juddy in my SC was bad enough (damn finals byes) and the ‘quality’ of our game almost killed me, (dont know what i would have done if we’d lost to richmond!) then to add insult to injury Foley gets dragged for 25 points and Cotchin killed it!
I’m not sure I can handle footy and supercoach this year!

  7. thumbs up if Duigan’s score is high enough for a place on the field.
Or is otten and lower going to get better scores (thumbs down)?

  8. Yarran only cost you $300k it’s not like you paid $500+k (Gun) for him, you get want you pay for, nuff said.

  9. Talk is Otten is going to be the sub, so expect him to play around half of the game, or less.

  13. 296/2/Y, I should have put Yarran as an emergency and then only used his score if I had a doughnut on the field , rookie mistake, also I changed Cotchin into Rockcliff yesterday I hope Rocky lights it up over the weekend

  14. Hi Motts,
I missed a bit of the game last night (looking at stupid SC on my PC) and I know you were at the game….. I think being at the game gives better perspective. Any thoughts oon the SC players/standouts… Duigan and other rookies, how did they go?

  15. heres my dilemma.

Currently have SWAN in my midfield and playing Conca, Heppel and either Irons or Bewick.
    Swallow (GC) on bench.
    Loaded up my other positions.

The thing is, Swallow isnt playing this week and ill have 2 weeks to assess his performance before seeing if he is worth picking up. in the meantime, my midfield looks weak.

    Should i:

    a) Keep Swan and have Conca, Heppell, Bewick play with Swallow on the bench.
    OR
    b) Swap Swan for Pendlebury, swap Swallow for Callan Ward, which would give me a stronger midfield to start with, although downgrading Swan to Pendles….Ward will most likely go better than either Heppell or Bewick, and Pendles could easily do as well as Swan if all goes to plan.

    Thoughts?

  16. OK so let me give you some background before I go into my match report, BS.
    1) I’d been drinking since lunch and was reasonably sideways upon arrival
    2) I was sitting in the Carlton cheer squad so only had a good view of one end of the ground
    3) I was sitting with a couple of Richmond supporting mates who required constant ribbing in the 2nd and 4th quarters
    4) Richo came to the game and didn’t want to get her hair wet so we spent the 3rd quarter in the Haydn Bunton bar.

OK now that’s out of the way…
I don’t remember much. The wind played a massive part in the game. Richmond kicked with it in the first, we kicked with it in the last – the scores for each quarter tell the story.

Hampson provided a good target for us up front but clearly has his mind elsewhere because he sprayed a couple from right in front before finally bagging a major. Warnock looked mobile, switched on and got involved in a lot of plays.

Betts and Garlettt were REALLY impressive. Kicked 5 between them and when they weren’t in possession they were exerting great forward pressure. Judd was sublime, as usual. Mitch Robinson looks like he’s going to have a super year. Hard at it all night. And then I read a tweet (@MitchyRobbo) of his when I got home: “On the way to the MCG. if i finish tonight with no blood rule or concussion I’ll know I didn’t go in hard enough! #BeNavy”. Love that boy’s enthusiasm.

Yarran clearly didn’t cope with a backtag. The learning curve there is a steep one. Simmo was involved in everything and was outstanding. Scotto looked great for a 200 gamer – hope he can keep it up.

I didn’t really notice Ed Curnow or Jeremy Laidler – I’m sorry, I know you want to know more about those boys. I was distracted by my friend Jack Daniels and his partner, Jimmy Beam.

Of the Richmond boys, the only one that really stood out for me was J Riewoldt. We simply couldn’t stop him. Now I don’t know if that’s a factor of how depleted our defense was last night, or if he’s just very, very good – its probably both.

Mike, would you care to add some stuff in about the YELLOW AND BLACK! (its still the greatest club song in the AFL – couldn’t help shouting that out at the start of the game with the rest of ’em)

  17. My thinking on Otten is that even if he IS a sub this week, it is only to build him back into it. He wont be a Solskjaer style ‘super-sub’, rather, he will be making a lot of money for us coaches over the year, and, may end up a keeper.

Therefore, the most relevant decision for me now, is do I play Otten or Lower in that D6 spot?

  18. Fair and accurate appraisal of the Boo Baggers, Motts. Are you sure you didn’t spill a couple of those bourbons down the throats of the Tiges? We looked scared and lost in that first half and only our straight kicking (adds weight to the theory that they WERE drunk) kept us close enough.

My huge fear was that our midfield would get smashed (drunk?) which is why I gave Juddy the VC but Jackson did enough to limit his impact. Hardwick admitted after the game that Foley wasn’t right with gastro. Huge mistake! Tucky would have been better suited in there.

Won’t add any more about Jack – imagine how good he’d be in a better side! Hours before lockout I convinced a mate to drop him from his SC side. He then re-instated him at the last minute but realsied later that Jack was a non-emergency on his bench. Oops

Cotch was fantastic after half-time and looks like he’ll go better earlier than Axel, about whom we have to reserve judgement til he’s better. Martin’s don’t-argues are hilarious to watch and he moved well. Batchelor was more impressive than Conca, whose disposal was not what it can be. I sometimes wonder if a Richmond guernsey to a superstar is like kryptonite is to Superman. Chrissy Newman was clearly our best purely because he didn’t put a foot wrong for the whole four quarters. Go Tiges.

  26. It was floated in one of the team posts… Either Ducks or BS’s… but it was with a little risk given the main sites from Herald Sun didn’t pick up on it so the loophole might have only applied to the Captain.

  29. 368/2/y went with gibbs and are very happy to leave him captain, the other player that scored was deledio who scored 92,, not happy i had to get rid of hibberd, smith and puopolo, but we must start with a full team to be any good

  30. I have both, but, the ONLY reason I have Pav is b/c I decided not to have Buddy & Cyril on the same F/L, so, for me its Cyril, Cyril, Cyril.

  31. I expect some average scores from cyril this year but also am banking on several 130+ games…here’s hoping. I’ve had pav last 3 years one of first picked, this year he hasn’t made my team – I just think last year there was a bit of slide creeping into his game and scoring…put simply cyril should improve, whilst I would be surprised if pav does.

  35. Tom Harley is an expert on Hawthorn matters now?

Motts is home again for the footy. Picked Saints but had money on the Cats towards the end just to make the game interesting – for 3 quarters that was THE most boring game of football I have ever seen.

Selwood going down completely shat me. The only thing that made me feel a little bit better was picking the quinella up in R7 at Moonee Valley tonight. Go Crystal Lily, you good thing!

Have I used too many players so far? oh well nothing I can do now I suppose. Think there will be alot of coaches wishing they had Gibbs as the big C.

  47. Sorry for the facetiousness guys – I meant no disrespect or disregard to Joel’s plight.
“Impertinence” is probably a bit harsh Motts as the intent was only to create considered debate knowing that Joel was OK. In hindsight I could’ve worded it more sensitively.
I’m not sure Damo’s priority by his comment had affect to JS’s health but rather maybe his SC security.

  49. 567/6/N

Includes J.Selwood’s 24 (looked like he was in a for a cracker too!). Captain is Swan.

The essence of supercoach: Spend two months ‘perfecting’ your team daily, only to have J.Selwood knocked out in Q1 R1.

    …and so it begins.

  50. 494 for 5 ..Ill take that

Wish leauge match ups were on..need to know who I’m playing

Lucky i didnt take Yarran, Foley or Selwood all of which I considered
J.Riewoldt looking good for his price, but we’ll need to see how he goes against stronger defenses. can’t believe I totally missed Curnow after months of research 9didhe play any NAB cup games???

Enright was great but avoided all keepers from geelong, Essendon, North melboune and Carlton (except gibbs) this year..otherwise you probably will have to waste trades. Only went for rookies from the above teams.

  58. Yeah.
I’m in a bit of trouble there. Sandy Vs a doughnut. But… Petrie was just too good to pass up. Marathon, not a sprint 😀
And Yeah. Was going tossing up Pittard or Atley. Figured Port don’t have a bye until very late so should be downgradable (is that a word? :P) sooner.

    0

    0
  59. Yeah at the start I was unsure about Petrie, there were rumours saying he’d hurt his foot again and so I went off him. But he played in the last two praccy games and well too, then with no rookie ruck being named in R1, I put in J.Tippett even though I was against the idea at the start it all fell in place with Petrie’s form and health along with the lack of ruck options as coverage.

  69. If anyone’s looking for quarterly SC player score updates go to:
    http://www.fanfooty.com.au

SC scores refresh shortly after the start of the next quarter.
    DT scores updated continuously.

They also have neat little icons which tell the story as the game unfolds (injuries, sub action, tags, hot/cold, etc)

    Some of my favourites…

= Spud (potato). It’s no surprise that this player’s fantasy score is so low… he’s just a spud, no one should have him.
= Crab. This player looks like a crab, scuttling hither and yon in an ugly style. Stay away, fantasy coaches!
= Muppet (Kermit). This player has just done something unbelievably stupid, and turned into a muppet.
= Burger. This player has obviously been hitting the fast food just a tad, he’s looking fat and slow.
= Pumpkin. This player has had a great run recently but has now reverted to his true form: ordinary.

  77. 1842, 18, y- Pendlebury

Just waiting on Heppell, Goodes (yes I put him in, better pay off!!), Sylvia and Ed Barlow today.

Leunberger did alright (89) but I think I was right in keeping Jolly (despite his 63), I hope he will be more consistant. Knew Buddy would stuff me up. Just can’t write him off. That game last night was far more interesting than Friday’s game- at one point it was like a penalty shootout, lol.

Motts, I also had Lower knitting on the bench! argh he scored higher than Pavlich!!

Not bad all things considered with one rookie to play (Richardson)Reckon Jetz has got me covered though in the LoEC.

For those who have J.Selwood, if he doesn’t play Round 2 (cos let’s face it he has a lip like Jimmy Walker!), anyone considering trading him out?

  82. Special shout out to my nuffy league opponent who seemed to forget two important things. First, GC have a bye this week. Second, it helps if you name some emergencies. Other than that, his team isn’t bad.

  84. 1674 / 15 / Y (Swan) – Doing okay. Choosing Yarran over M Duncun and Knights over Dangerfield as last min changes hurts a little. Also Sewell getting subbed for the last quarter against the crows was annoying! Still managed to get me 89 but what was Clarkson thinking?? I would have kept him on…

PLaying Motts first up in SCT1 – Very even teams but just ahead and hoping it can stay that way! 🙂

  87. At first i was dissapointed by Buddy’s score and wished i’d picked Delicious instead but on seeing the replay this morning on OneHD and looking at the stats, he kicked 2.6 and had some really soft frees against him (the umpiring in that game was pathetic, frees given for contact that wasn’t even there).

Worried about footy if umpires umpire like that and players play like they did on Friday night.

Come on A Swallow, need a pearler of a game from you to get past Motts.

  88. Jack Riewoldt if you can afford him, or maybe Didak in two weeks when his value drops and he gets the run in his legs.
Dawes as a P.O.D, Dangerfield for DPP.

  89. Dangers has a bye next week so if i were to go him i’d wait a week. Dawes could be something special this year. Will become Pies #1 fwd target (if he’s not already). Delicious or Boomer are other options too.

  90. I presumed that you already had delicious. I’d watch Boomer b4 purchasing, absolute champ, but North has an improving mid/fwd region and I wonder how/if it will affect him.

  91. 1805/17/Swan.
Bloody filthy with myself for not picking up Liberatore! His having a ripper so far. Happy with McKernan’s score of 98, and Lower’s 110 was awesome. How good was Kraks! Dissapointed with Bewick though. Should’ve got Curnow!

  92. reckon Bewick got shafted. did some nice things in the last quarter when it was close and only got 6 points.

  93. Exactly, if the Lions would of won Bewick would have finished on 75-80 points, points are weighted in favor of the winning team esp in a close game.

    Grimes/Hurn/Goodes/Cox/Richardson & Tapscott to finish.

Am involved in two close SCT battles. Just down in one, just up in the other.

  95. Haven’t got Delicious ’cause i was apprehensive about two guys from one club in the same line.

At least i’ve got something to do this week … figure out the best replacement strategy for BrownDog (still haven’t categorically ruled out saving the trade and keeping him).

  96. 2042 + Cox
    vs
1892 + Cox … and Swallow, Richardson and Darling

So need 151 from those three … i’m backing myself in Motts.

Will both have good scores though which we can both be happy about, esp since Selwood only scored 24 for us both.

  97. I had the same apprehensions and dropped Buddy instead. Maybe Brown’s injury wont keep him out too long.

  100. Miscalculated the scores somehow (damn abacus) …
    Motts:1978 vs RB:1717
Now significantly less confident about getting a win and less happy with my score.

Need 262pts from Swallow, Richardson and Darling. Swallow, you better be the jet that i’m tipping you to be this year. Need a 150 from you Spitza.

  102. Yep Jonesy- Lower on my bench, scored higher than Pav in my FWD line.

Goodes was going well until 1/2 time. Selwood not his fault (nor Farren’s FWIW… he should get off at the tribunal). Have to agree on Franklin, but it was a tight game. Not going to write him off yet. Dangerfield was great.

  103. 1984 with Big Cox to come.
Lower & Heppell scored well for me & both looked great.
Tapscott & Liba non scorers score for me, but very happy with both.
Hopefully Cam Richardson & Darling are as good as the 4 rookies above.
Buddy, Goodes, Joel Selwood & Gamble did me no favours.

Question for everyone:- with J.Selwood probably going to miss trip to Perth (or even if he does’nt), due to low score on friday & him missing game in round 22 is it worth trading him for a rookie or DPP (i.e. ROK or Danger) who should increase early whilst Selwood goes down in price. Going for league win so happy for money in bank during weeks 4, 5 & 6 to up-grade ready for round 7. I love keeping trades for finals & he should get back his price prior to selling before finals, however trading for high scoring rookie and having 45oK to up-grade to underpriced players could be a good long term strategy?

  104. Need 165 for me to win both leagues from Richardon [29] and Darling [19] at Quarter Time, hopefully they can keep on going.

Hopefully Boyd and Boak will perform better next week.

Reasonable start to the year considering Selwood got a 24. Dane Swan I think I’m in love with you!!! Should’ve got Tapscott on my bench too, but what can you do!? IF Selwood is out, who would you consider as a good replacement/trade?

  106. 2314 [Friends League] and 2268 [SCT1] for both my teams. Lost by 16, but there’s some room for improvement for some of my players.

  108. 2102

Horrible start. Carried Selwood’s 24 and Goldstein’s weak stomach and McKernan, Darling and Heppell all sitting in the bench (for Bewick and Richardson). Respectable in the end I guess.

Was comprehensively trounced by Jetz any case. Well played sir, well played.

Round 2 is the round of redemption!

Just got home from the game and obviously pretty happy all round. A bit lucky with the Goldstein late exclusion but by the same token, Captain Coxy was on one leg with what appeared to be a quad cork from the 20 min. mark of the third quarter. His score could have been edging up to GAJ proportions if not for the injury.
Roo Bloke, your guys are going to be in a GF in 3-5 years time IMO with the talent in that youth. Just need to have them in that 50-150 game experience bracket.
Thanks for the back pats guys, now its back to the reds!
