Round 2 Lessons

Written by Big Sexy on April 6 2011

Back by popular demand….. (well, that’s what I say!)

Lessons Learned from Round 2:
1. Confirmed – JP Kennedy isn’t worth the SC Hype! (78 & 58…. Not the 100+ some hoped for)
2. Confirmed – Big Cox is back to his very best (165 & 129)… jump on Big Cox now if you haven’t already, and before it’s too late.
3. Confirmed – Anyone who selected Everitt is a massive loser $315k 61 & 39 (again, a specifically directed dig, not you PA)
4. The Suns look like they will be rubbish.
5. True A Grade midfielders do bounce back…. Boyd 129, Goodes 118 etc
6. People who invested in Swan, need to come to terms with the fact you don’t need to like your players and make him Captain!
7. Don’t forget to take the players who have the Bye off the field…. They won’t play!!!
8. Goddard continues to crack the ton without playing well.
9. The Big Brown Dog (Johnno Brown) is injury prone.
10. Make sure you have a good set of Rookies…. And carefully select what rookies you play on the field and who goes on the bench.
11. For god’s sake, don’t make your trades on Monday (Premature adjudication).… Wait till the teams are out!!!!
12. Make sure your emergencies are playing

Surely you had an “opponent” or a “friend” who did something they shouldn’t have….. please share?

  1. Ive got a dilemma.
Team is doing well. avg about 2200 over the 2 games.
BUT ive got hibberd on my back bench not getting games and tapscott looks like a great option for my fwd bench. I can afford to swap hibberd for o’shea from port (whos getting games).

    So the question is.
Should I swap hibberd for o’shea because he will rise in price? and should I swap out 1 of my forward rookies who are getting games for tapscott?
My fwd rooks are mckernan, richardson, darling & matera.

Cant decide if its worth using the trades, i know there gold and i dont think its really needed but like everyone, im getting greedy!!!!

Plus from what ive heard hibberd will eventually get games down the track.

    Cheers guys

  2. If you want tapscott then don’t swap a rookie fir a rookie downgrade a midpricer or even a gun who isnt performing and then get some dough to upgrade another rookie somewhere to a superstar

  3. 14. Confirmed – Anyone who selected the hippy haired Mitch Clark as their R2 is a massive loser. $354k for 61 & 70 while McEvoy ($308k) has scored 100 & 113.

  4. Good one PA…. Sub rule sucks with regard to SC! Though whilst Krack was subbed on the w/e with a ridiculously low score, that one didn’t bother me too much because every team I looked at had him…..

  5. D Mac, The question I would ask with Hibberd, is do you have him because he”s a DPP….. if you have him for team flxibility then you may be stuffed…. but as he’s a DPP, do you have a chance to swing him into you midfield and grad Curnow or Libba instead?

    …. or what Jesstar said.

  6. Ok, fair call, and happy to wear that…. but in my defence, I actually wanted Jolly (which few would argue with, aside from poor NAB Cup form), and as it turns out Clark hasn’t performed any worse than Jolly, and that downgrade allowed me to squeeze in Z Smith and Petrie for some solid ruck backup.

That said, Clark will be gone this week, and it wont be for Wackerboy. Are you prepared to admit your mistake yet?

  7. Dont have him for flexibility. Just thought he’d get games.
Ive swapped heppel in from mid to back and i think i may trade out hibberd for curnow.

Im going to leave my fwds for now i think.

    Cheers guys.

  8. Everitt’s already waiting by the back door with his bags packed. Tried something different, it failed, I move on.

  9. Jolly has been a massive disappointment! and only 51,587 picked him 🙂

Glad this year i went with Sandi and Cox! third year of supercoach and first time i have gone all out with the two most expensive rucks. Usually tried to save money on them and put it elsewhere but always burnt me. Touch wood the big two keep it up and dont get injured! or rested! or subbed! 🙂

  10. thanks for making feel a lot better about myself motts! 🙁
all the numbers added up perfectly for Clarke to have another ’09 season for eg great pre-season, NAB scores. You cant blame anyone for thinking others even though it mightve been abit over-zealous.
well anyway, at least cox’s scores are making up for clarkes sub-pars 🙂

  11. I have a dilemma and would like advice please, I am a Muppet who has Beau Waters (couldnt afford ol’Thunderthighs Hurny) and Duffman. Should I trade Duffman and get Newman and put Beau on the bench this week and put Duigan on the feild, this way I get rid of Duffman before his price drops and trade out Beau next week, or should I sit on Duffman and get rid of Beau this week and get Newman in for Beau instead? Or is there someone else I should be thinking about? My backline is Godd, Grimes, Enright,Heppel,Lower,Waters,Duffman with Duigan, D.Stanley and Lester on the bench.

  12. Giller looks around the room, full of fellow Supercoach tragics, bows his head in self loathing, then it’s his turn, he stands up slowly, and with a tear in his eye says “Hi, My name is Giller, and I traded on a Monday”
The room has seen it all before, they tell him it’ll be ok and now he’s admitted his mistake he can move on.
Thank God for Supercoach tragics anonymous aka SCT

  13. Hi Giller, welcome to SCT anonymous….

Don’t worry, I have Clark, Motts has Everitt, PA has Yarran…. everone has done something they regret, all fixable…. and now we can all move on, and pick up the 50k.

  16. 2 things:
    1) Thank Christ I didn’t pick Myers. I think he made it into one of my early preseason iterations.
    2) My Blues membership pack just arrived in the mail – only 2 weeks after the season started.

  17. Not sure where this belongs, but worth noting that the weekly winner of Dream Team (& SuperCoach it seems) has at least two teams. Quite against the rules.. see thread on BigFooty

  18. I’m considering trading Foley to Curnow or Libba. Foley has great job security and his first bye is not until round 11. While Libba is part of a dredded multibye coming up. I already have Judd/Gibbs from the blues plus they come into a tough run of games (Coll, Ess, Adel, Sys (away) StK, Bye). My head tells me stick with Foley and use him to upgrade to a prem down the track while enjoying his good job security. All my rookies are playing and scoring 60+. What do you guys think?

    0

  19. Stick with Foley and use him as an upgrade later. I have the other end of your problem with no mid range to upgrade and just rookies so it will take me 2 full trades and then a further 3rd trade to get a premium depending on what libba and curnow can drum up betwen them.

  20. does it have to be Foley you trade for Curnow or Libba?? Im going to trade out Conca for one of them. Figure instantly gets me 60k and then the guaranteed 200,000k one of these two will go up…

  21. My mate, broke THE rule of supercoach and traded in yesterday at about 9 in the morning.
    He traded in Cyril….
    That’ll teach him. 😀

  22. whats veryone’s thoughts on darren jolly, will he start slow like last year and get better or will stay slow, should i trade him for luenburger or warnock?

    0

  23. McEvoy from St Kilda is looking like a good cheap option at the moment. I would maybe wait another week, but I think Jolly is usually a slow starter to his seasons

    0

  24. Andrew, I have Clark and I’m gona roll the dice with Ottens… if he stays fit, he will delive 100+ each week and is clearly the Cats primary ruck choice, and rests up forward. tick tick tick. I personally can’t trust McEvoy or Warnock.

  25. thinking im doing alright so far, i am averaging 2320, and, touch wood, havent been hit by any injuries yet.

i have planned to trade out wallis for libba to get extra cash, but cant think of another trade to cash in on the bubble, cant get curnow cause i dont want too many carlton players.

heres my team, let me know how u think im looking.

BACKS: Godd, Gibbs, Grimes, Brough, Heppel, Duigan, Otten
    Bench: Buckley, Coad, Stanley

MIDS: Swan, Watson, Deledio, Higgins, Goodes, Harris
    Bench: Swallow, Wallis, Gaff

    Ruck: Sandi, Cox
    Bench: Petrie, Derrickx

FWDS: Roo, Pav, Tapscott, Buddy, Steve J, Darling, Krak
    Bench: Richardson, Prestia, Mckernan

i think i have done pretty well with my premiums, only seem to be lacking in the fwrds but the ones i have are solid.

    heaps of opinions please!

  26. Of course I am waiting for the teams to come out but you guys give me some advice? Thinking of making these trades
    Daniel Cross > SWANNY
    Conca > Libba
I know I shouldn’t be trading a rookie for a rookie, but my mid-pricers are doing well and the only gun (besides Joelwood because of injury) that isn’t performing is Cross.
I will wait another week to make a decision on Riewoldt or Franklin since Rioli is suspended. I know Franklin got 108, but i’m worried about the rest of his year. And Riewoldt should be doing a lot better for his price

  27. You don’t have any blue boys in the mids so Curnow shouldn’t be a problem, imo trade Gaff -> Curnow you’ll make over $65k up front plus Curnow has b/e of -158, which = $$$$.

    0
  28. so PA, you think im safe going for both cash cows, ie, wallis to libba, and gaff to curnow?

will make for an interesting value rise next week…

the only thing holding me back was the argument that i should see myself lucky i havent had to use trades yet for injuries or bad performing premiums,,, so was half thinking i should save them for later in year…

but then, there is only one bubble opportuinty…

GAAAAAAAHHHH,, gotta love the mind fark of supercoach. 😀

  29. What are you planning on doing with Everitt Motts?
    Downgrade or side-trade.
Currently in the same boat and interested to hear your thoughts.
Right now, I’m looking at downgrading to a rook and upgrading Kennedy (dam him) to Boyd, Burgoyne or someone of that nature…

  30. do you trust luenburger? just an interesting face from the first 2 rounds, warnocks TOG has gone up 21% compared to last year and for luenburger its gone up around 10%

  31. See a couple of people doing that remps, i think everyone’s entitled to make 2 trades this week as long as they didn’t make any last week. And why not grab the cash cows if you’re happy with the rest of your team, go for it but just make sure they get named this week.

  32. Nick Riewoldt and Buddy Franklin(I know he got 108 but he just doesn’t look like scoring 100+ very often) have been very dissapointing I am not sure if I should give them time or make some cash and grab a rookie before there price sky rockets

    Thoughts??

  33. i have Cross but is not preforming yet. Was going to wait until rd 14 to put in Pendles as i already have Swan. The down grade and 60 point av is very appealing.
    thumbs up trade
    thumbs down wait

  34. Doing neither – horrible trades. Keep Montagna! he’s a gun and will come good, along with the saints. Much better trades you could be doing this week i reckon…

  35. never trade a gun for a gun (cross >swan ) unless long term injury.
trades are gold so build up your bank to get swan later on..

  37. Sub rule is going to knock a few about. Just looking at magpies draw after the article today about pies resting their guns. Bye R7 and R13. It could be another Bye in R18 playing the GC Hats – wondering whether this will be a resting week for a few of the big names.

  38. what do we think of trading
n reiwolt to pav and then
    j kennedy to ROK
feel it is trading 1 premium to get 2, getting better flexibility, making money and i plan to trade st nick back in when he starts firing.

  39. Franklin captain is very tempting, no backline for the tiges, and if hawks pump the ball in like the second half on Sunday he’ll surely kick 10.25 lol

Swan however has had over 30 against Carlton the last 3-4 games.

    0

  40. My theory is that Jolly’s scores are lower cos Pies have trounced their mediocre opposition in the first two rounds. Pies mids have have had the ball on a string. His score should increase this week as Pies mids’ efficiency in a closer game is unlikely to be as good a against a half-decent team (sorry Motts) in the Blues and therefore Jolly’s tap outs will be more valuable (especially ones to advantage). Even better if he sneaks a goal or 2.

I expect Jolly to score 80+. By the way I don’t have Jolly.

  42. buddy franklin

after last weeks effort by the hawks he could have 15 shots on goal, and richmond is going to play astbury on him, due to rance and mcguane being suspended

he is a possible option for those trying to make up ground on those with D Swan as captain

  46. I really want to save my trades this year..
I have a history of making to many trades early in the year.

I’m already down 4 trades and I have 30k left over.
    Round 1 =
    1) Franklin -> Roughead
    2) Montagna -> Swan

    Round 2 =
    1) Kennedy -> Embley
    2) McIntosh -> Cox

I’m more concerned about what is on the field at the moment than what is on my bench.
Unfortunately, I won’t have internet access next week so I’m going to have to prepare my team for two rounds and hope for the best.

I just don’t know how I’m going to swap out Reidwoldt, Goddard and Higgins next week.. 🙁
