Ruck Strategy

Written by Motts on January 22 2016

Its a question every coach asks themselves year in, year out: how am I going to approach the tall timber this year? There’s a number of options you can go with which I’ve listed below. For the sake of the poll assume:

  • Premium = $500k+
  • Midpricer = $200k – $500k
  • Rookie = <$200k
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

  1. I’m the same every season – double premium. I love not having to worry about my rucks for practically the entire season (barring injury). Last year I started with Goldy and Maric, this year will be Martin and Jacobs. Set and forget.

  2. Struggling to make the call this season. Lobbe frees up a fair bit of cash, I think I can make up the points lost on Lobbe by spreading the cash elsewhere.

  3. I think I’ll be going Nic and Stefan, not convinced Goldy will back it up and I think both these boys will average around 110-115 so no brainer for me… The options are getting Bennell up forward with Sinclair in ruck spot instead of up forward but I think Nic Nat and Stefan both have better chance of averaging 115 than Bennell does… 120 average Bennell has better chance but I don’t think he’s ready for that yet

  4. Martin or nic nat & lobbe for mine. Lobbe can punch out some pretty good scores now he is the only real ruck option at Port and nic nat/Martin just starting to hit their prime.

  5. Currently Martin/Lobbe and Luey via dpp.

Essendon situation totally changed my ruck strategy.

Final decision between Luey/Sinclair/Gorringe/Mackay will be based on preseason form.

  6. I am going Goldy/Martin. Goldy for me is a must good luck trying to trade him into your team if you don’t start with him.

  7. At this early stage I’m thinking blitz and lobbe. I think blitz will only go up as he’s been training with just the midfield for the first time ever, and even if he plays as a second ruck I can’t see it hurting his scores, will expect 105+ from him, lobbe at a low price with no Ryder should be around 100 and at a discount I’ll take it. It’s a small risk but both players are very durable and will play every game this year and will at least score 90’s at worst.

  8. Currently looking at the durability of Sauce and the potential of Tiprat with obvious rook bench DPP. Fwd DPP coverage between Sinclair as a player or West as a rook bench depending on NAB usage.

West allows me to keep Gunston, Sinclair means a rook or low price mature age bencher. Again all depends on NAB movements.

  9. You’re brave not to have goldy in the team. I’m a fan of go with form till you have a real reason not too. Expensive yes, but what’s a trade worth later?
