Rustee's Draftee's – Mock Draft V 2.0

Written by Motts on August 30 2010

(Motts: our thanks once again to Rustee and the magnificent work he’s doing with the rooks this year – good on ya, mate)

Seeing as the final positions are now in here is my second version.
By the way this is my last draft before trade week when all the final Rnd 1 draft picks (which teams have them) will be revealed.

New V 2.0 Draft
1.D.Swallow(GC) We all know he will be. Already playing at GC with very high raps, won the Larke medal for best Div 1 player at the U/18 Champs in 2009. Very fast and uses the ball particularly well. Described as a Tall Midfielder, has no weaknesses.

2.S.Day(GC)GC will be looking for the best possible Key Forward Prospect in the draft for the 2nd or 3rd pick, here he is, Boy can this kid jump, also great speed for a big man.

3.H.Bennell(GC)A Fast and skilled ball magnet as well as goal sneak, has the ability to kick a bag and get a ton of possies. His speed is a very important factor as well can outrun almost anybody,
except of course Usain Bolt. Won the Larke Medal for best Div 1 player at the U/18 champs.

4.P.McCarthy(WCE) Best Key Defender in the draft also has great closing speed, should be Darren Glass’ replacement after he retires.

5.L.Parker(GC) this kid is a great Mid player who can also play off the half back line.GC have big raps on him but i have heard he is very overrated.

6.L.Cook(RICH) Richmond are in desperate need of a Key half-forward to help out Jumpin’ Jack, this guy had a great U/18 champs and either he or Jack Darling should go to the tigers.

7.A.Gaff(GC) Tough, ball magnet Midfielder always seems to be able to get the balls from packs, best user of the ball in the draft, THE NEXT JUDD!!!

8.S.Atley(ESS) Essendon will look for yet another Mid and this guy is an absolute gun, was probably in the top 5 players at the U/18’s carnival.

9.J.Darling(GC) Key Forward at 192cm is not expected to grow that is probably why he won’t be drafted before Sam Day, the good thing is he can also play in the Midfield.

10.D.Heppell(BRIS) Birchall/ Drummond type player and lord knows Brisbane need another backman, he almost always hits his team mates chest and provides great run out of defence.

11.B.Wilson(GC) GC will need a small Gilbee like player for that they will either pick Wilson or Conca who both had great U/18 champs.

12.J.Solly(MELB) This guy is huge, great key forward player halfway through the U/18 Champs he AVE. 161.5 DT points.

13.J.Polec(GC) Precise kicking is this wingmans game and dodging is also a huge part of his game, he runs up the wing dodges his opponents and lets fly at goals, great goalkicking wingman.

14.S.Tape(ADE) Adelaide will need to replace Bock, perfect replacement can play key defence or play a running half back.

15.D.Gorringe(GC) 198cm, The obvious best ruckman in the draft could go higher but most likely still to GC.He is also very good in general play set up WA’s wins at the U/18 Champs with Bennell.

16.J.Lamb(PA) Probably a replica of Reimers, except way more talented, great small forward prospect for PA, and yes he wears Fluro Yellow boots.

17.B.Jacobs(NM) This guy is almost a replica of Petrie, except he can’t play ruck(because he isn’t tall enough) he plays at either half back or half forward as a key position player perfect for NM.

18.T.Lynch(CARL) Great key forward prospect for Carlton, has great hands and a solid kicking action.

19.S.Lycett(HAWKS) Ruck/Key Forward player runs into space very well but at 195cm, will probably drift forward a lot more.

20.M.Watson(FREO) Another great key defender who can play half back and half forward but is more suited to the back line.

21.B.Smith(SYD) Another running half back, good for SYD as he would allow Malceski to go into the Mid more with Kirk gone.

22.T.Liberatore(WB F/S) This guy would probably go top 5 except he is a F/S pick, great ball use, great get skills, usually plays on the wing, In my opinion was probably in the top 3 for the U/18
Champs.

23.J.Wilkinson(STK) QLDs best player at the U/18 Champs, brilliant half back/ Mid should be higher in my opinion but most likely won’t.

24.K.Harper(GEEL) Key forward/ midfielder, when he plays midfield he plays a lot like Rockcliff, up front he has a great pair of hands

25.J.Caddy(COLL) Collingwood are hot about this kid he Plays as an inside mid can also play as a forward due to his unbelevible overhead skills. He is also very strong at getting the ball from contests.

WB 2nd RND pick- M.Wallis(F/S)- Would definately go first RND if he wasn’t a father son pick, one of the best mids in the draft great hard ball get skills
Early second RND M.Hallahan, D.Prestia, A.Trealor, R.Conca, J.Pitt, J.Green

The U18 AA team is:
Defenders: Ben Jacobs (VM), Matt Watson(VM), Dyson Heppell (VC), Shaun Atley (VC), Patrick McCarthy (SA), Brodie Smith (SA)
Midfield: Jared Polec (SA), Daniel Gorringe (SA), Andrew Gaff (VM), Mitch Hallahan (VC), Anthony Miles (NSW/ACT), Tom Liberatore (VM)
Forwards: Harley Bennell (WA), Lucas Cook (VC), Adam Treloar (VC), Jayden Pitt (VC), Steven May (NT), Josh Caddy (VM)
Interchange: Sam Day (SA), Josh Bruce (NSW/ACT), Josh Green (Tas), Sam Darley (TAS)

  1. I think that WC will target a midfielder with their first pick, maybe Parker, Atley or Gaff. I think WC really need some quick skillful mids.

    1. My reasoning behind them getting a defender is to cover the eventual loss of Glass which will give a new kid some experience from him for a year.
And remember they got K.Stevens and L.Shuey last year in the draft.

I think WCE will develop these 8 players as there midfield for the future

      1.M.Priddis(In The Guts)
      2.A.Selwood(In The Guts)
      3.S.Selwood(Tagger)
      4.K.Stevens(In The Guts)
      5.L.Shuey(Attacking)
      6.C.Masten(In The Guts)
      7.A.Strijk(Defensive)
      8.P.McGinnity(Tagger)

  2. West Coast should recruit the now delisted Troy Selwood. Not for his playing but as part of a Joel Selwood recruitment plan. Having 3 Selwood’s there would surely entice Joel away from Kardinia Park.

      1. Hampson and/or Griggs from The Mighty Blues.

And it looks as though Camby Brown is locked in from the Hawks.

And if you believe the HS today, Pav may be heading there too.

        1. I don’t think Pav is going anywhere, Mark Fine nominated Grigg a couple of weeks ago, but I would’ve thought Hampson is a better fit.
