SC BBL – Rate My Team 3

Written by Motts on December 12 2019

Here’s a new RMT thread where you can receive some feedback on your team.

To get the ol’ brain juices flowing, here’s Nathan Scoble‘s team and below are some of his justifications for his selections. Thanks very much for sending this through, buddy!

The general focus of picking this side was to enable a Game week 1 (GW1) focus (10DGW Players) whilst also looking forward to the future game weeks (GW3, Scorchers & Strikers DGW, hence the 4 players from those sides).

This side is most definitely not locked in (just recently I have also been convinced to include Usman in) and anyone who has spoken to me on Twitter or seen my thoughts regarding picking a side on Twitter knows that I take a massive interest in practice games and warm up matches form and take lineups into account and their specific scenarios.

No doubt the side will change depending on form and practice games, but for now I’m currently “settled”. If some players don’t get picked or are technically on the fringe (Steketee) then I’ll be looking to make 3 changes, that I see fit. Hughes to Vince, Jordan to Green/Ellis/ and Steketee to Khan/ Morris or Curran.

Most of the selections don’t need an explanation and therefore speak for themselves, although everyone has different opinions and expectations of different players. Let me know what you think of my ‘settled” side, or where improvements could potentially be made!

One tip or a sneaky bit of advice is DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE, captain Mitch Marsh in GW1 like I did last year!!! Definitely halts your season from the get go!!!!

  1. Current team

Khawaja, Lynn, Vince, Philippe, Henriques. Bench: Harris, Green.

    Banton. Bench: Carey.

Curran, O’Keefe, Sams, ZKhan, Steketee. Bench: Sutherland, Ellis.

Very Sixers heavy but I’m confident it won’t leave me short through rounds 4-6. Keep coming back to Carey on the pine for round one loop and round three prep. Only have $700 in the bank so if someone like Steketee misses round one I’ll have to chop O’Keefe and reshuffle.

    1. Hey mate good looking team on paper! If you’re extremely confident on Sixers then you’ve could potentially downgrade SOK to Dwarsh via Henriques DPP. My reasoning behind that would be that SOk is priced extremely high due to his great season last year, but will he hit those heights this year? I am not sure.

I like your thinking and early prep , keep an eye on the warm up games 🙂

If Steketee is left out you could also go to Laughlin (they haven’t signed him to not play him imho) also you could potentially drop SOK for Agar who I’m big on and is in good economical form, also helps looking towards the double gameweek in R3, for the Scorchers.

  2. 25k in the bank

Khawaja, Cutting, Bryant, Banton, Hughes (Jewell, Harris)
    Philippe (Peirson)
Curran, Maxwell, Sams, Livingstone, Henriques (W. Agar, Ellis)

Still deciding between Handscomb and Bryant, choosing the latter only because of the DGW in round 1.

  3. Regarding N Scoble’s team in the article:

Fantastic to see someone placing a high importance on the bench by minimising the amount of basement rookies whilst selecting several bye players in preparation for next round.

Like the Jordan selection but would prefer him to be on-field as I’d be hesitant purchasing a player over 150,000 to sit on the bench for RD1.

An option to bring C Jordan on-field could be:
    Out: B Dwarshuis, M Steketee, A Carey, D Hughes
In: B Stanlake, R Gleeson (Renegades international), P Nevill, T Curran

    On field changes would be
    C Jordan, T Curran, R Gleeson
    instead of
    B Dwarshuis, D Hughes, M Steketee

Allows you to grab A Carey in Rd3 and avoid benching 1 of Philippe, Banton, Carey next round.

    1. Much appreciated on the feedback mate! I think I’m going to I gotta I’ve without Jordan at this stage, can pick him up later if needed. I’m not sold on Gleeson, yes he’s cheap but his record doesn’t scream “pick me” if you understand where I’m coming from. I am a big fan of Dwarsh with his 50% dot balls from last year, although in saying that it is a new year! There is also practice games on tonight which match impact the side!

  4. Might be a dumb question, but can someone explain to a relative bbl newbie how the bench works. I’m thinking in terms of the c loop that works in afl supercoach…does that work in bbl ?

    1

    0
    1. If you want to utilise the C loop the preferred position would be in the WK (Wicketkeepers):

      1. Place bye player or DNP on-field
      2. Place VC on player who plays before the C and the C on the bye player/loop
      3. If happy with VC score leave as is and you will receive your WK score from the bench
      4. If not happy with VC place C on another player and if possible switch the current WK selections

If used in the bat or bowl position then the lowest score of the 2 bench players will be used.

Isn’t necessary to start a loophole player in this format due to the byes providing loopholes throughout the season.

  5. Version 3, and almost certain this will be final unless any nasty surprises.

Curran, Khawaja, Sams (vc), Ferguson, Hughes (Carey/C Green..perth)

    Doran (c) (Philippe)

Abbott, C Green (Sydt), Tremain, Dwarshuis, Henriques (Sutherland/Ellis)

Have plans to bring in Adelaide and Perth players for the triple dgw r3 at the expense of 6ers, and already have Carey on the bench. No Brisbane players till at least r4.

    1. Don’t mind the side mate but some moves I’d “Consider” would be Tremain & C Green (Thunder) to Morris and Steketee! Each to their own mate!

    2. Also interesting no Heat players, Banton doesn’t interest you? Or Lynn? Has been in amazing form, food for thought.

  6. My Possible Final Side for R1:
BAT: Khawaja, Lynn, Vince, Ferguson, Banton, (Jewell), (Harris)
    WK: Philippe, (Nevill)
BOWL: Curran, Abbott, Sams/Z Khan, Morris, Steketee, (W Agar), (Ellis)
I’ve got a couple of questions. I’m stuck on who to pick from Sams and Z Khan, so could you help me out and give me some pros and cons to each of them and who is the better pick? Also it’s looking more likely Steketee will be in R1 side now that Hazlewood injury likely means Pattinson gets called up to Aussie side, that helps Steketee’s chances largely.
Anyway thoughts on the side and the selections overall?

    1. The side is strong on paper mate no need to tinker with it thus far , and also like the steketee pick. In regards to your question , Sams would be my pick, Khan has played some “okay..” opposition but hasn’t done anything to scream “Pick me” above someone who has proven themselves last year (Sams) , Sams’ bowling has come along nicely recently and as we know can smack a ball! Gun to my head , Sams

      1. Ok. Cheers Nath.
Also do you rate Caleb Jewell as a better bench option over 42k guys (Sutherland, Green). I reckon he will either open or bat at 3.

Also thoughts on Wes Agar as a solid bench option in readiness for R3/4 DGW’s?

        1

        0
        1. Like W.Agar mate! And if you think Jewell will bat high in the order why not pick him? Back yourself in with those calls because you might get ahead of the pack by not going the blokes you’ve stated.

          3

          0
        2. Harris could also be an option at that price and a closer DGW. Depending on if he bats top 3 with the inclusion of Marsh.

          3

          0
          1. Yeah thanks. I’ve got Harris locked on my bench. Too cheap to ignore. I’m happy with W Agar pick on bench. You would imagine Jewell would be better than Cam Green, Sutherland etc.

Also thoughts on the Callum Ferguson pick? I’m liking it, in red hot form.

  7. Dunk has been tearing up in the South African lead. Has been leading run scorer twice before in the big bash. Scores of 35,27,75,99*,34, 45, 8, 28, 50*

    Could be a real smoky.

    5

    1. Completely agree mate, haven’t really looked into his price but dare say for his DGW will be very popular !

  8. Also thoughts on Sam Heazlett as a nice bench option? I saw he made 68 in a practice match today. Only 62k and has the DGW straight up. Will likely bat at 4 imo. Thoughts?

  9. T Banton recorded 121 off 40 deliveries in the QLD Premier Cricket competition today.

    Price=$125,000
    Position: Bat/WK
    Team: Brisbane Heat
    DGW in RD1

  10. If any of you can help out with my team a bit, that would be wonderful. This is my first season doing it. I can repay the favour if anyone needs my advice.
    My Team:
Batting: Maxwell, Lynn, Ferguson, Livingston, Hughes Sub: M. Harris,Cam Green
    WK: Philippe, Pearson
Bowling: Stoinis, Curran, J. Richardson, Sams, N. Ellis, Sutherland and Fraser McGurk.
Something I was thinking of doing is trading Marcus Harris, Daniel Hughes for moises henriques and Swepson or Sandhu or Gilkes or Silk or M. Short or any other player under 100,000 (the amount i have left. So how I could improve my team for this first week, who my captain should be, if i should do that trade I just mentionted to get henriques and for what other player. Thank You 🙂

      1. DGW = Double Gameweek , a player who plays twice in one Gameweek as compared to a player who plays once. Sixers, Heat & Thunder have the first DGW in Round 1.

        1

        0
    1. Personally I’d be going Maxwell , Livingstone , Stoinis & Richo to Uzzie, Morris , Abbott & Banton , then having Ellis & a DGW player (DGW means a double game week player , a player that plays twice in the game week like Sixers , Heat & Thunder do in the opening Gameweek ) on the bowling bench. Ditch FMG & Sutherland , maybe choose a Wes Agar for the bowling bench & upgrade Pearson to Carey.
If you’re not a fan of those, some options to look at to bring in and make changes would be Uzzie, Morris , Dwarsh, Ashton Agar , Abbott , Banton, Henriques , Laughlin & Steketee. Hope it helped mate!

Having a good starting game week 1 team is great but it also is important to look ahead to future Gameweek, hence why I suggested the bench option for R3 Double Gameweek.
      Hope it helps!

  11. Curran played in the Sixers warm up game last night against the Thunder so he will play both of the Sixers DGW games.

    1. Heat : Bryant Banton
      Sixers : Hughes Philippe
      Thunder : Uzzie & Hales
      Strikers : Weatherald & Salt
      Scorchers : Patterson & Livingstone
Hobart : Short & Wade ( Obviously Wade will miss but potentially Jewell / Wright )
      Renegades : Finch & Marsh / Harris
      Stars : Dunk & Stoinis

  12. Hey boys, here’s my final team –

BAT: Khawaja, Lynn (vc), Sams, Banton Hughes (Weatherald, Harris)
    WKP: Philippe (Carey)
BWL: Curran (c), Tremain, Dwashuis, Agar, Steketee (Sutherland, Green(Perth)

$1,000 ITB – Seems to fit pretty perfectly, got the VC loophole if Lynn pops off on opening night, got Carey, Weatherald, Agar & Green for the doubles in Round 3.

    1

    0
      1. On second thoughts, I agree, Tremain is junk. I switched him for Hales via Sams. Hales has a bit of upside about him, is coming off a couple of decent scores in his last two T20’s as well.

  13. So, finally have a team! Whoo hoo! Is it any good? Asking you!

    Curran, Khawaja, Cutting, Lynn, Banton
    (Harris, C Green (Perth))

    Phillipe (Carey)

    Sams, Dwarshius, Laughlin, Hernriques, Steketee
    (Sutherland, Ellis)

As you can see, I like allrounders a lot, and want all the ones starting for the three DGW teams R1. (Did I miss any?) Heat are home twice, so hard to turn down their cheap bowlers added to their guns.

There is $62,500 left in the bank, so I could upgrade a bench player to a non-cow, although having the cash could be useful too.

Love to hear what you all think!

    1. Really like the side mate, very strong and good value also. If I’m being very picky you could give Sutherland (as he won’t be playing much) the flick to W.Agar who should continue his good form and is priced very well and appealing.

      4

      0
    2. Not bad Father – I’m guessing your plans are to trade Heat players for Strikers for round 3? As Heat have the bye that round and no double games until the last round??

      0

      0
      1. Right. I’ll move players around based on DGWs over the season. Can carry a few who do not play each week. Makes the bench important, so hopefully I got that right.

  14. My team is nearly settled thoughts pls;

Khawaja, Lynn, Finch, Vince and Philippe. (Harris and Green)

Banton (Doran or Peirson or Nevill)

Curran, Abbott, SOK, Livingstone and Laughlin. (Sutherland and Ellis)

I have 5.7k in the bank

    Cheers Jono

  15. Who to get?
    Livingstone or Ferguson? And why?
Ferguson is in some serious form but Livingstone could be handy to have ready for R3 DGW and is a bargain at 125k

  16. Ok….I have sorted out my side after realising Brisbane has a dwg r1 too, so here is my final draft, before any last minute final changes.

    Doran (c) (Banton)

Curran Cutting C Green (sydt) Dwarshuis Henriques

  18. My team is set and looking good. Apart from one decision I have to make.
Who to get out of Agar and Livingstone and why? I can’t decide, but I currently have Agar in my side.

    1. I’m in the same boat. I’m leaning towards Agar. Livingstone’s performances in his most recent T20 tournament or two have been pretty rubbish, and Perth has plenty of guys who can bowl part-time, so I doubt he gets to roll the arm over often.

      1

      0
      1. Go with agar because he always steps up and is handy with bat and ball, also his experience, and Livingstone isn’t quite at agar’s level in my opinion

  21. After a few rough drafts, I can’t see myself improving on this team, pretty much locked in –

BAT: Khawaja, Lynn (vc), Ferguson, Banton, Hughes / Harris, Green
    WKP: Philippe / Carey
BWL: Curran (c), Sams, Dwarshuis, A.Agar, Laughlin / W.Agar, Ellis

      Brisbane Heat= 3 (T Banton, B Laughlin, C Lynn)

      1. nice – I actually went all 11 in the end – hopefully not too many (first year, so will learn) … bit the bullet on Steketee over Laughlin due to his position in the batting order and also played Sams – maybe not the best choice … but will see how it goes … will have to balance the numbers for the byes and also the best times to trade …

        1

    2. Me…..

      Curran, Khawaja, Sams, Ferguson, Hughes

      Philippe

Curran, Cutting, Green (sydt), Dwarshuis, Enriques

With all teams playing r2, I get two rounds to balance up my side with Scorchers and Strikers before r3. Started v on Sams…c now on Curran

      1

      0
  25. well … another year later and interesting to see that nothing has changed with the heat – bowling is lacking punch and ability to keep teams below 160 and batting goes too hard too early without getting their eye in and feel for the pitch conditions … i may be wrong, but looks like another bad year coming for them … thoughts all??
