SCT Cup – Round Of 32 Results

The bye rounds have resulted in a bunch of Cup upsets. Could the early leaders be coming back to the pack due to overtrading, early season trailblazers hitting form slumps and potentially even poor bye planning? We lost seeds 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 this round with Griggsy FC looking more and more the team to beat. The crowd favourite would have to be long time site regular The Phat Side (Yiorgakis) who seems to be improving like a fine wine as the season progresses.

Firstly, some stats …

SCT Cup Average

R11: 1679, R12: 1836, R13: 1685

High Score

R11: DashingDonkeys@SCT (1842), R12: JC@SCT (1972), R13: The Phat Side @SCT (1939)

Low Score

R11: Team Canada (1309), R12: Dougys Diggers@SCT (1696), R13: Greenvale Frogs (1346)

3R Avg High – The Phat Side @SCT (1830)

3R Avg Low – Team Canada (1493)

Match of the Round – Apples vs Oranges

(16) Shaqatak@SCT 1354 + 1932 + 1696 = 4982 LOSE

(17) Hired Goons 1776 + 1769 + 1655 = 5200 WIN by 218 pts

Thanks to Shaqatak and Hired Goons for testing different bye round structures for the community. Various people have run the numbers on this one over the years but it’s good to get a real life case study to help support the theory that it’s better to trade through the byes than to take a dive in one of the byes.

Can he be beat?

(1) Griggsy FC 1838 + 1829 + 1638 = 5305 WIN

(32) Wanderers 1685 + 1824 + 1779 = 5288 LOSE by 17 pts

A poor round this weekend meant that Griggsy may have been experiencing a few nervous moments on Sunday arvo but the big R11 score set up the win for Griggsy.

Is this the end?

(2) The Salamander@SCT 1612 + 1815 + 1684 = 5111 LOSE

(31) Merky’s Premiers 1812 + 1803 + 1783 = 5398 WIN by 287 pts

His bark is bigger than his bite. His talk doesn’t match his walk. He’s all show. Too much fluff, not enough substance. Where do I end with the poorly applied analogies? At the end of the day, Jack had two poor bye rounds and you’re not going to win a Cup tie at this stage of the comp with two poor rounds.

  1. Thanks again for the kind words RB 🙂 And for setting up this great comp!

Still can’t believe I made it this far. Thought I was cooked after the first 2 bye rounds. Usually by this stage I’m trading like a mofo just to keep the team afloat. However this year, either through maturity (unlikely!) or sheer luck (likely!) I’ve used trades wisely (mostly!) and the team is well balanced with 3-4 premos (haven’t decided on Witts yet) to come and 13 trades! And I finally got Doc last week! 😀 Pricey but worth it!

Hopefully can now make a charge into the top 1000 over the next round or two and aiming to have at least 6 trades for finals (never had more than 3!).

    Good luck everybody!

  2. Dashing Donkeys@SCT survive again.

Some how I’ve managed to make it this far after starting ranked 254. and just scraping in. I have been the underdog all the way through, thats riding some luck!

All aboard the Donkey express. Can we go all the way?

  3. Great stuff RB! I thought I was “done and dusted” against JJ for the round with Steele out and his PODs in the first two legs going better but that man Hannan pulled it out of you know where for me!! I could have kissed the ground he walked on Sunday night!!
Mind you after that faithful effort he may now well be the one I trade this week!!

  4. It seems that a number of The Salamander’s players were under the impression that they got more than one week off during the byes! Oh well…

Anyhow, well done to the coach of Merky’s Premiers on a well-deserved victory. Your bye planning was clearly a lot better than mine. Best of luck for the rest of the year.
