SCT Suggestion Box

Written by Motts on August 9 2011

Got any suggestions on how we could improve the site next year?

Can’t guarantee we’ll implement them but we’ll certainly give them consideration!

  1. On another forum I am on, it’s got a button you can press to see the last post of a thread you have recently been reading. Would save scrolling down every post. Not sure how well that would work though, and I think alot of interesting discussions might be missed. It is alot quicker though. I suppose you have that at the moment when you click on the username at the side, it takes you straight to that post. Probs wouldn’t work, as people reply all over the place here, it’s not just one post after the other.
    Does that make sense?

  2. I wouldn’t mind seeing Sunday’s final teams get updated on a Friday. Saves me having to go fishing around for them on other sites.

  3. Great site 1st of all guys,

When the Motts Movers the Thrillers, Chillers & Drillers are done, I think it would be very useful information to have the break even scores for those players mentioned each week.

    Your thoughts?

  4. Maybe as well as the thumbs up or thumbs down you could have numbers as well, so if you have more than a few options on a poll, people could select the one they like the best up! Also could be used as a rating system for how much you didnt like or agree with a comment, plus im sure people would find other reasons to jig it how they like!
Not sure if it would work.

  5. Mottsy

With the significantly increased patronage this year, we have seen several posts that have been inappropriate or offensive and on those occasions it has been policed primarily by the regular users venting their disapproval and at times with emails/threats of exclusion from yourself/Duck.
Whilst some posters have called for a membership login system similar to other like sites, I acknowledge and appreciate that this would substantially increase the administrative obligation therefore I recommend a “Code of Conduct” be published and adhered to outlining your expectations of what is acceptable behaviour on the site and the potential repercussions for non-compliance.

I, and I’m sure many users do not want the site sterilised, as the candour and character brought to the table is what makes it so unique. However, in order to continue to attract a diverse demographic and gender support base I believe there now needs to be an integrity strategy considered to encourage the growing patronage.

This is by no means meant as a “Nanny State” approach but more as a compromise to the “Big Brother” system practiced by other like sites. For those that have been on for the past three years you will know that I have at times been guilty of crossing the line on some of these issues and IMO this is a strategy that will enable us not to sway to the dark side even if our team is getting continually belted, our Captains have underperformed, our trades have not lived up to expectations or our punting has not delivered the cash.

Other than that consideration, this site is without doubt the most attractive of its genre as I and others have expressed over the journey. Its diverse range of serious advice, tongue in cheek banter and general empathy and support for each other is what makes it the best.

Keep up the good work boys and good luck with the future negotiations….

  6. I reckon the format is great.
Only suggestion is being able to edit posts.
Especially with smartphones and predictive text, things get ugly very quickly 😀

  7. One of the thing I’ve missed this year is a weekly or even fortnightly update of all the leagues… That way everyone can see where everyone is etc… Aside from that there isn’t much I think needs changing!

  8. What about a gimmick team? At the start of the year someone (either an editor or a guest) has to put together a team with a limitation (no players >400k, no Collingwood and Geelong players etc.) and try to keep it competitive over the season?

  9. What about projected scores? I can go to other sites to get for the current week, but would be nice to see what happens in a few weeks time or just for the finals

  10. Thanks for all the feedback team. One idea I had was to reinforce that a number of our readers have some great ideas sporadically or regularly, such as Rustee and Bleeding RedAndBlack, and Mottys, Duck & Myself are more than happy to post on your behalf if you prepared to go to a little trouble and put pen-to-paper so to speak and write an article or two that grabs your eye….. So thinking it would be good to encourage post from readers, so you get a different perspective and maybe make it a little easier to submit your article via email…. Rather than comments… And we of course give the writer full credit for their own work.

  11. Would be good to be able to hyperlink your alias to your actual SC team so you can see who’s walkin the walk.

  12. The one thing that really gets my goat is multiple comments on different threads and questions/comments that have nothing with “set” thread, not sure how you go about stamping else out though #justsayini’vedoneitmyselfalso

  13. I know its not the right thread but i know there are a few blues supporters on here who wont like hearing this, but here you go

For all the carlton supporters out there, heard last night from a fairly reputable source that Jordan Russel has told the blues he wants out. Most likely GWS have put an offer out there. Ratten said 2 weeks ago that he would not play anyone who intends to leave. Russell is fully fit and was named an emergency but played for the bullants.

In my opinion, if this is true… Jordan Russell should hang his head in shame. The blues dragged the #9 draft pick through 2-3 years of absolutley crap football by russell. Now he finally came good and he wants out… thats weak russell

  14. How about encouraging everyone to post there overall ranking next to there name?
It would be great to see how everyone is travelling and wouldn’t add any extra burden on the three amigos

  15. How about we abolish the anonymity of the thumbs up/thumbs down icon. Have it so that if you are into giving a thumbs down on someones Comment (ie PA’s earlier in the year) that has really pissed of the writer then he/she can have right of reply to the dissenters. If you are going to give thumbs down for a certain piece then you should be able to back it up. #juststirrinthepot.

  16. The most foolproof way to improve the SCT site in 2012 is to provide HGL with;
    1. Beer.
    2. Cheaper & higher scoring premiums.
    3. Massive, Delicious, Missy & 211 to go through the SC season/finals without getting injured.
    4. A third Collingwood flag in a row.

  17. Not exactly a change to the site itself, but an idea for next year.

A small competition to test our coaching skills against each other more directly. We set up a standard, ‘cookie-cutter’ like team at the start of the year (popular rookies, premiums etc) and everyone creates an account with this exact team. It is then a test see who uses their trades/emergencies/captain the wisest and ends up highest overall. The hard part would be choosing the starting team, but Im sure we can set up a vote/poll or some other fancy thing. Could be interesting.

In regards to the site itself? Im with RB: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

  20. Maybe being able to comment on certain posts along side the the like/ dislike. And I like the idea of editing posts

  21. It would be great if you could see the posts and comments in correct threads and be able to reply in thread on mobile device (iPhone).

  22. A filter for “My Comments”. For when you want to go back to your comments to continue the discussion or gauge reaction, see poll results etc.

A filter for “Find Comments From”. For when you want to see all of PAs comments together in one place.

A self destruct script which activates when someone impersonates another and writes pure filth on the site.

What about an SCT Hall of Fame. Most liked comments (threads) are promoted to the “Best of” library..

A weekly post called “I want to say this but it doesn’t fit anywhere”. Or, encourage people to “Post your random idea in the Forum” (?)

Here’s a good colour for the site: http://bit.ly/nJjBDk

  24. You should be able to click on the thumbs up and thumbs down to see the list of names who voted up or down. That way we can find the prick who votes thumbs down on every single post!
