SuperCoachTalk Tech Leagues 2020

Written by JimmyDee on February 4 2020

Hello fellow Supercoach punters, regulars and newbies alike, and welcome to the first SuperCoachTalk Tech League (SCTTL) post for 2020.

For any newbies, a quick summary of SCTTL as follows:

Basically, everyone who joins a Tech League will start with the exact same 30 players supplied through the site and will not be allowed to trade until after round one. Any differences in team’s structure will only be through choice of captain or who to sit on the bench or who’s loopholed. Essentially it’s a side competition where everyone starts on an equal footing. Apart from that, it’s the same as your normal team.

Now, speaking of normal teams, the boffins don’t allow participants to have more than one entry in Supercoach. To overcome this (especially if you are a serious contender for outright honours), a separate email address and name must be used, eg wife, grandma, pet bullfrog or even a work address and pen name. Nato’s Dad came home with a wet sail last season to win the outright honours in SCTTL, and maybe even knocking Nato off for overall.

I’m entrusted with the site management of this season’s SCT Tech League.

Traditionally, SCTTL is left until later in the pre-season once the AFL teams are more settled after the Marsh Community series, and knowing if rookies are more likely to be named for round one, and all those factors which make good sense. The comp is launched and the team revealed, but I fear the late admin creates a conflict with the classic team for some people. Hence the formation of only two leagues last season, one of which the boffins filled randomly because we did not have the full 18 for the second league. I would really love to fill at least three leagues, and will consider a 12 team league for overflows rather than have randoms in there creating confusion. This will be possible if everyone registers early and gives me time to tailor make each of the leagues. Details of where to nominate soon.

However all that said, whilst the team reveal will stay within the sensible factors of final Marsh Community research etc, the leagues can be set up well in advance and league codes sent out to all and interested sundry to give everyone the chance to set up their own random team, save it, and apply for league codes and then it’s a simple matter of replacing it before the round one shutout with the supplied tech players. Some may even want to use team V2 to play with different combos for their classic team until the
tech team is announced. eg one with Big Maxie, one without etc.

This year’s tech team will be following a theme that is very strong in the community this year but I can’t reveal what just yet (carrot dangled) as I don’t want to have to kill anyone too early. I think it will be a ripper challenge that will include some uber premos, risky mid pricers and some high draft pick rookies. The restrictions I have set for the team to give it an even balance within the criteria will be revealed later as well, but I’m sure you will find it intriguing, if not challenging. Will be releasing more snippets each week (more carrots dangled) to keep the interest in the forefront along with your classic and draft teams.

Hope everyone has a great and fun filled season, and I look forward to introducing a few tech teams to the competition – get on board, you know
it will be fun and you could win cash, but best of all you get to become a SCT Hall of Famer as the SCTTL winner.

  1. Looking forward to it JimmyDee and great first post! Welcome aboard.

Mrs Hutta may just have to sign up this season for the first time. I’m sure she’ll be thrilled receiving Herald Sun SuperCoach emails all season long!

  2. This tech team league is a lot of fun and I will be joining again this year.

I like to use this team to trade in players that I didn’t have the guts to pick in my classic team.

I encourage everyone to give it a go this year.

    1. Dear Mr Adder,

It has been bought to my attention that the prize money on offer does not meet the standards set in 2019 thus infuriating an associate colleague of high common standings who was constantly bemused and intrigued by the regular banter and comradeship flourishing in our “Aussie Rules” football community.

Please be advised that my associate colleague wishes to up the anti to match last years earnings with discussions to even better it after negotiations though the appropriate channels.

Please advise the appropriate email details for correspondence.

Hearing the SCT Cup is in desperate need of some prize money to support the hard work the Salamander will be putting into running it this year.

  4. Great start Jimmy Dee and thanks for taking the reins on what is the best comp outside of the real deal on SCT. Nan’s hoping to go one better and beat Nato’s dad this year.
    Bring it!

  5. Onya JD.

That must be one of the most fun and sadistic roles that any footy addict could only ever dream of.

Imagine having the power to tell people that will be starting with no left footers…..or all players starting will be missing bye 1……or you have to start with both Hannebery and Rockliff……or………HA HA HA…….oops sorry, Onya JD.

  6. Oh, and Jimmy – just ’cause you are running Tech League doesn’t mean you get any favours in the Maulers League – you’re still gonna get smashed!!

    1. Mate, I’m still smarting from that botched trade that let you knock me out of the round of 16 couple of years ago so as they say in the classics, I’m using it as extra motivation, so good luck with that !!!

  8. Ahh what a competition it was, time to see if my father 😉 can go back to back this season. Tech Difficulties is aiming to make a legacy from this name and to show that this team isn’t a 1 hit wonder!

So bring all you got as you will be pushed to the limit when you face this mighty team!!!!
