ShePlays AFLW Fantasy – Finals Edition

Written by The Salamander on March 20 2020

To make sure they are able to get a result for the season before any forced shutdown, the AFLW home-and-away season has been cut short by two rounds, with a re-jigged finals series to begin this weekend. And with the end of the home-and-away season comes the end of the AFLW Fantasy season. But that doesn’t mean we’re done here…

We’re launching a new competition for the finals series. Entering is easy – if you have already been playing, you can just go to your team and get rid of the players from non-finals-bound teams, and either keep any of the remaining players you’re happy with, or just clear the deck and start from scratch.

And if you missed out on the AFLW Fantasy for the home-and-away season, now is the perfect time to sign up and give it a try! Just head over to ShePlays and sign up, and start building your team.

Whether you’re a new or established coach, however, you need to navigate over to ‘My Leagues’ and enter the league code ‘AFLW’.

So, how does it work?

It’s pretty much the same as before – same salary cap, same positions, same prices. But now, there are no restrictions on the number of players you can take from any one club, and you have unlimited trades.

Sheev takes a liking to the new rules.

Since we’ve reached the end of our home-and-away competition, I should congratulate Manildra Mystix ORFFW on winning the SuperCoachTalk league:

And also for finishing #2 overall:

The new competition also means that the AFLW SCT Cup can go on, so here are this weekend’s matchups:

Fixture:

Saturday

12:40 PM AEDT, Princes Park

North Melbourne vs Collingwood

2:40 PM AEDT, GIANTS Stadium

GWS vs Melbourne

4:40 PM AEDT, Fremantle Oval

Fremantle vs Gold Coast

Sunday

1:10 PM AEDT, Princes Park

Carlton vs Brisbane

As an aside, congratulations to Gold Coast for making finals for the first time in the history of the club, too.

Lockout for this week is Saturday at 11:40 AM AEDT.

As always, I’ll post the full teams when they’re announced, and give score updates over the weekend.

Thank you to all who participated in the home-and-away competition, and good luck to all in the finals competition!

  3. The AFLW stats were taken down from the website before last year’s finals, so I never got to calculate SalamanderCoach scores for them. When the stats came back at the start of this season, it never occurred to me to go back and check to see if previous seasons’ stats were also back up. I just did, and they are.

I doubt it will be of interest to anybody now, but in the interest of keeping the historical record up to date, here are all the scores from last year’s finals series:

Incidentally, there was a bit of controversy after the match about whether or not Phillips really deserved to win the BOG Medal (Norma Smith?), with some accusing the voters of doing it for sentimental reasons (she did her ACL in the third quarter). Well, according to SalamanderCoach, she was indeed BOG.

  4. Incidentally, today was the first Carlton AFLW home game that I haven’t attended since the inception of the AFLW. It’s a little sad… I was proud of that attendance record. Still, not a lot I can do. No one was allowed in.
