Star Stable Spring 2013

Written by Motts on September 11 2013

Star Stable opened up today, folks, so of course I’ve already opened up a league – 604425.

The interface is very similar to SuperCoach except that you’re picking 10 horses, a trainer and a jockey.

I’ve been doing it for a few seasons now and I’m a big fan. If you love the nags and love fantasy sport, this is your game.

Check the race schedule/prizemoney spreadsheet before picking your stable. Set your stable to win the big races that offer the most prize money. You only get 2 trades between meetings so you want horses that are going to compete in a number of races. On that basis, you want to set your stable for the Melbourne season rather than the Sydney one so don’t go picking horses that race exclusively in Sydney.

Use one of the betting sites to check the odds on horses too so you can see which horses are favourites to win the races you want to win.

That’s about all the advice I’ve got for you. If you’ve got any other questions, throw them into Comments and answer ’em.

  1. I’m in, Bro. I don’t mind the spring comp but don’t like the autumn. They changed it up a bit this time around, instead of the jockey getting $100K per win now he/she gets 5% of the prize money no matter where they finish.

  2. I’ll give it a go.
You have a schedule of 84 races over the course of a month that you’re trying to win the most prize money in. Now obviously different races are going to have different prize monies attached. The Melbourne Cup pays the most prize money – $6m – so that’s the one you want to win, but in the meantime you’ll excel if you can also win the Cox Plate ($3m), the Caulfield Cup ($2.5m) and a few others like the Vic Derby, the Mackinnon Stakes and the Caulfield Guineas.
What will really separate you from the pack though is if, in addition to the BIG races, you can win the smaller races along the way. This is where the game is very like SC in that you have to be able to recognise rookie talent because everyone knows Ablett (Atlantic Jewel) is gun but how many people know that Tom Mitchell (Prince Harada) is about to have a great season?
So pick your stable with an eye on the major races and an eye on the upcoming race meeting and you get 2 horse trades between race meetings. And you can trade your trainer and jockey. Horse values will increase/ decrease depending on how they perform just like in SC.
It’ll take you a season to get used to it but I thoroughly enjoy it.

  3. How many horses are you trying to have run in week 1 motts?
Obvoiusly you want some runners in the turnbull, that are likely to continue on to the cox and caulfield and melbourne cups.
I would have thought you would like to find a cheapie running in the flight stakes, that may then go to melb for the vase/oaks, or do you wait to the edward manifold in week 2?
Also you would want one in the epsom that even if dosent continie on to the big races in melb, it can be traded at that time.
Anyway im glad sct is in for star stable, im excited about this 1, and having the sct community for help will be awesome.
Where can we find a list of future nominations? tried googling some stuff, only got betting sites.

  4. Got a bit of track mail. David Hayes Jetaway is one to watch over spring. Running next week, and is 15-1 for the Caulfield Cup. I don’t know how much Jetaway is in the Spring stable hopefully only 75,000 so might be worth including in stables if it goes well next week. Also the Mick Price 2 year old Le Man’s running at Moonee Valley on Saturday Race 2 No 7 at 5-1 is a good each way bet.

  5. I’m in, love the nags and Star Stable on the side just adds to the pleasure. Tough game though, I remember last spring I thought I had the best stable going but didn’t fire a shot.

FYI I’m keen on Le Bonsir in the last tomorrow, great each way value at around the $13… Get on!

  6. Wordplay($25k) is running around in race 6 at newcastle today. I read somewhere that cummings reckons it could be an oaks chance, so interested to see what it does today

  7. Found the nomination information i was looking for on the racing victoria website. Makes for some interesting reading, a whole shite load of 3yo,s paid up first acceptances for the cox plate.
Not sure if the wfa scale is fair anymore, with breading and training these days, the 3yo,s are not so immature. Dont want to see the cox plate become another 3yo feature.

  8. Well it seems my study over the last month has served me well (so far). Without very little tweaking, i have 8 horses representing my stable this week. The other 2 are a couple of the better chances in next weeks $1m caulfield guinees.
My stable has 3 turnbull runners
    2 in the flight stakes
    1 in the epsom
    1 in the metrop
and 1 in the edward manifold.
Im going for what i consider an easy kill, by taking GUELPH in the flight stakes. If she wins, not only do i pocket a very handy $240k in prizemoney, but she will also increase in value by $75k. This will allow me to trade her out next week, for its a dundeel or atlantic jewel before they run in the caulfield stakes.
To do this however i need to replce guelph with one of my turnbull top 3.
FIORENTE…Drawn barrier 14, but is likely to come in a couple after the emergencies are withdrawn. If allowed to possie up 1 of the fence midfield, he has a powerful burst, and with a half decent tempo up front, will just run right over the top of them.
PUISSANCE DE LUNE Drawn barrier 1, but considering hes heading for the melbourne cup, is unlikely to lead. Sure to get a cosy trip on the pegs, but wouldent want to get held up at all in the straight. If royal dissent or fiorente are off and gone with their runs…he wont be catching them this time.
ROYAL DISSENT..ran an absolute cracker when hitting the line hard last start in the george main. Gets out to a very suitable 2000m for the first time this campainge. Has the absolute gun draw in barrier 4, should be able to possie up 1 or two pairs back on the outside. With only 54.5 on her back, is the horse to beat imo. Will be in front at the 150, and if they have gone slow up front…then nothing is catching her. If you can still get sevens…the get on!
Hers the line-up for the bring back northerly stable.
    Fiorente
    puisance de lune – guelph
    royal dissent /
    arabian gold
