  1. An open letter to the Herald Sun.

    Dear Herald Sun
Let me kick things off with a few dot points:
    * Supercoach sells more Herald Sun newspapers – I don’t have the numbers but I’m sure its not insignificant.
    * The Herald Sun in 2011 charged $1 for The Little Black Book which used to come free in 2010 because it sold more papers. Any plans to bump the price of it up again in 2012?
    * The Herald Sun also charges $19.95 p.a. for SuperCoach Gold – the addendum package to SC which gives you little more than the stats which are freely available on other websites. You get better advice from this website than from whatever monkey you pay to recommend players via that.
    * The iPhone app is charged for on an annual basis rather than a user paying for it once and then getting a free update every year like you do with every single other app I’ve ever purchased. Think: Angry Birds.
    * The app is one of the few that I’m aware of that you pay for that bombards you with mindnumbing, unwanted advertising.
    * Because the SC website is so cumbersome and slow SC coaches need the app to make quick changes to their teams on a Friday night when Channel 7 FINALLY announces the teams (don’t get me started on that!) and you’re at the pub enjoying a beer with your mates with no access to a computer.
    * Supercoach is a far better competition than DT but:
    * Live score updates are available with DT
    * The DT app is free
    * The DT app is ad-free

C’mon Herald Sun, don’t treat your SuperCoach fans like cash cows that can be milked and sold to like brainless idiots. Keep pushing us away with this sort of evil money-grabbing behaviour and you’re gonna lose us.
    Yours Sincerely
    Motts, SuperCoachTalk

  3. No-one seriously expects a NewsLtd business to provide something without trying to make a profit do they?

  4. Finally on android but I still prefer using the browser,
As Bruno Mars puts it, the Herald Sun
‘ Oh, take, take, take it all but you never give. Should’ve known you was trouble…” lol

  5. aussie rules have always been the people,s game from day dot , but now greedy corporations want a piece of the pie ( I won,t name em ) . e.g …Any live game for instances is going to be a thing of the past and if you want to watch live games you going to have to pay for it through your teeth . The afl has sold our game out for a quick buck .sorry rant over .

  6. 30min delay AINT live, roo bloke. HS are gunna lose a lot of supercoaches to DT next yr with all this crap. $3 pw for live scores is a rort & the new app is just as dodgy as last season! NOT HAPPY.

  7. Does it really matter that HS is going to charge for all of their “assistance and inside knowledge”? I understand that as a collective group we are trying to win our league and overall competition for $50k but as Motts points out, You can find all of this information elsewhere for nothing as long as you are willing to do the research. You don’t need the HS crap to punch out a capable team you just need to use your nouse. While having the app is a good thing when on the go, we have been getting by without it for years and it is not neccesary. I for one will not be using any of the crap that requires me to pay for it simply out of principle. I agree with you Motts about the Monkeys but these monkeys will be charging us to play the competition itself in the not to distant future. $50.00 to play for the year just you wait.

  8. The $3 for the app is only the beginning, just you wait and see. The whole fantasy thing is worth millions and millions now in various revenue streams excluding what they get from the players themselves. This is when they start to slowly extract from the people who play the game because we love it and they know they can!

  9. If corporations think that there is a way to make money then they will explore all avenues in an effort to do just that. Why do we play SC and DT? So that we can have a chance at $1k weekly and $50k overall as well as thrashing our mates but initially it is to try and win the cash. There will probably be 400,000 teams registered this year and more the following years. When (and they will) the powers that be start charging to play you will still find that majority will keep going because playing SC is what we enjoy doing. $20 next year (it’s only $20 Les-seriously) will be raised to 30 the year after etc. At $20 per team you only need 50 thousand teams to enroll and that is a cool mill. This would have been the long term plan about SC and DT all along.

  10. Is anyone willing to pay the $2.95 for the SC app for android, and then send it to me for half the price…that will have the HS by the balls…

  11. I’m not fully in there with the Twitter stuff but is this guy calling SC_Talk (Motts?) an opportunist tip rat??

    “David Hopkins @hoppasaurus

@SC_Talk perfect answer from an opportunist tip rat. All the best knackers.. @WarnieDT @RoyDT @CalvinDT”

  12. I read that Twitter feed. Nasty and uncalled IMHO. Don’t put up those inflammatory remarks. Motts did the sensible thing to end it by blocking. Otherwise it just continues with dribble

  13. Much to my distaste, the App had to be purchased for the simple reason a hectic work schedule prevents me from always having access to a computer. Leaves an awfully bad taste in BigRuss’ mouth. Something akin to cat $hit.

  14. Does everyone realise you can’t get pure live scoring on Supercoach? This is due to the scaling that occurs at the end of each quarter weighting the scores based on the 825 points availiable per quarter (3,300 per match) – I don’t think the have changed this. This is the obvious reason that HS only provide quarter by quarter updates. There is an app called footy star that provides ‘live’ SC and DT score. It can be temperamental (sometimes slow to update SC) especially with the coverage you get when another 30,000 people are checking their phones at intervals. Does anyone know of a better one?
