SuperCoach Discounts 2020

Written by Schwarzwalder on August 20 2019

Ok Coaches……..who amongst you has been busy calculating the starting prices for 2020?

What discounts can we expect for Callan Ward, Sam Docherty or even Alex Rance?  Any other ‘stand-outs’ that you can see in terms of value?  Leave your calculations in the comments below……..I’ll post them to the top of the thread shortly……..

  1. Rance scored 36 in round 1, so they won’t be using that to calculate his price next year. Instead, he’ll probably get a 27 percent discount off his 2019 starting price, and so should be roughly $327K.

Assuming he doesn’t cop any price manipulation (which they have been known to do in the past), Docherty should be around $358K.

Ward is in a similar boat to Rance; he should be around $415K.

    1. Hey Sal

I disagree on these two actually. Libba played that opening 12mins last year (2018) against GWS (13 SC pts) before missing the entire season. He got a straight 30% discount this year on last year’s starting price. Assuming that ‘rule’ holds, starting prices in 2020 should be:

      Callan WARD – $397 600, and
      Alex RANCE – $313 700

Could be wrong, but a clear precedent (exact same circumstances) has been set there.

      1. A 30% discount for players who’ve missed 2 years of AFL through injury.

10-20% = 1 season missed due to injury

At least that’s what I thought it is, happy to be corrected.

        1. The discounts vary for 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 gamers, but there are rules for these. Concrete rules for 4 5 6 and 7 gamers, but they differ!

Unlike other fantasy AFL formats, SuperCoach can be a little more complicated, but I now have 3 years of data to work with (rather than two last year).

ALL prices will have the new season’s magic number applied, which makes exact predictions impossible, but we can get to within $1-2k in 99% of cases.

More to follow in the off-season.

    1. Devon Smith will be $339,500*
Nank (assuming he doesn’t play this week) will be $408,700.

Based on est’d magic number of 5490.

*: receieves a 10% discount for playing only 7 games.

Only players who play 8 games or more receive no discounts. There are no exceptions to this rule.

  2. Jonathon Patton should be $295K; he’s averaged 78 and 81 for the previous two seasons, so if he can keep his dual-position FWD/RUC status, he could be one to look at.

Joe Daniher should be around $280K.

Carlton’s best-22 should be hard to crack next year, but Tom Williamson (DEF) could be a good rookie option if he can, priced at $163K. He’s highly rated inside the club, so one to keep an eye on in the JLTs.

    1. I wouldn’t include Docherty in that – he’s a keeper. Ditto with Tom Mitchell.

There may be a limit to how many not-quite-keepers we can start, but the exact number depends on what the rookie situation is like next year.

    2. Why limit yourself?

Liberatore, Newman, BSmith, Greene, ZWilliams and DMoore ALL made more than $150k this year.

Glad I started 4 of them and the onfield pts were invaluable too while they lasted. I picked up Greene for sub $350k and still have ZWilliams onfield.

Kinda wish I’d also started Newman now too!

Don’t understand having hard and fast rules for anything. Only serves to limit your choices. Of course if there’s a glut of decent-looking rookies that might reduce your need, but …

  3. Is Titch going to cop a 30% discount? That would make him about 490k !! Sold! Or will Worpel’s rise rob them both of points?

    1. I doubt he’ll receive the full discount sadly. He will likely get a similar discount to what Docherty got this year.

That would price him at $568 100.

      1. AS, what will Dunkley be priced at considering his 117 average? I’m assuming around 645k? If so, is he worth the dosh, and can we grab Bont, Macrse and Dunks???

        1. Yep. $642 100 give or take.

Of course they’ll all have the same bye and they’ll all be MID only, but there are arguments for starting them all. I have already made my notes as to why I SHOULD do it:

          1. None of them has missed a game this year.
          2. They have a combined pts total of 7431 for the year
          3. The average of their averages is 117.95 which is Uber elite, and finally
          4. if you have all three, you will NEVER miss the weekly monster score that one of them will inevitably get.

Think Swan, Beams and Pendles of yesteryear 😉

If they don’t have the Rd12 bye, I will STRONGLY consider doing it. Could be a huge POD ‘collective call’. I don’t think many will do it, but the fact we’ve both considered it already … it might yet become the Grawndy discussion of pre-season 2020?!

          1. I dont fear having them all over the byes……its only the best 18 scores after all. With good management, that shouldn’t be a problem….you could still have 5 prems in the middle for the dogs bye, only needing another 13 onfield from the remaining 25 players on your roster.
I’m going into this weeks Granny with these three, plus Lipinski.

  5. Nice thread here team and certainly one topic I have considered many times already.
Mitchell, Ward, Doc and Dev Smith are locks for me on all lines.
NicNat should represent great value, but the ruck line will look so strong he may need to be overlooked.
Doedee in defense may also be a sneaky low mid priced option..
It would be bloody great if Roberton could get back to just playing footy too. Not just for SC purposes.

    1. Would love to know how Tom DOEDEE’s travelling (and I asked him on Twitter, but needless to say he didn’t reply 😉 ). I see he’s too busy with Netflix, NBL and NFL drafts to respond to us humble SuperCoaches.
Anyway, he HAS to be on Watchlists IN 2020 that’s for sure.

Dylan ROBERTON on the other hand? I just hope he’s OK. Would obviously love him to play from a Saints perspective and would no doubt be SC Gold … but his long-term health and well-being HAS to be the singular point on which any decision is made.

  6. I think we MUST find a way to keep this thread going during the off season. BBL can only occupy so many hours in a week.

    1. Right on, Wighty.

Just to throw around some ideas over the summer, see how everyone’s doing, etc.

  7. I will be using ward the same way Libba and crouch were used this year in the case of Libba he was more than valuable if you moved him on at the right time but I can see ward being more like a crouch that you can keep all the way through byes
