Target Test – Brian Lake?

Written by Big Sexy on February 14 2012

A few years back he had a name change, and last year he had a form change moving from the premier defender in the comp to one who could not get a game.  It’s unusual for a player to use injuries as an excuse, but Lake had no issues in fairly and squarely saying he was played with injuries.  A few people came out and said some players can carry injuries and some just can’t…… Well I’m a little on the fence, I’m leaning towards letting him have a run is my defensive 7.  He only managed 5 very average games in 2011 at an average of 58.  In contrast he played 22 and averaged 104 in 2010.  He is $286k, what’s your decision?

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

  1. Too true Roo. If he can stay on the park he will be averaging 90+ easily. Especially with the doggies backline seeing plenty of action this year.

Plus if he doesn’t come up it will completely throw me team as it sits right now.

You’d better do the right thing Brian. Don’t make me go all Rodney Eade on yo ass!

  2. Lakey is definetly in if he proves himself during the NAB cup, Like to think that Cooney could come back to his best (but i still wouldnt pick him)…..Any Carlton fans considering forgotten blue jordan russell? Dont know his price but it has to be way down from 2010

  3. I think worst case for Jamo is 4 months, so if Bower gets his chance and takes it he should be good for 65 to 80 points a game I reckon

  4. If you buy Lake for $286000, you would need him to become a premium keeper averaging 95+ or a price of $515000+ ($230000 increase.)
The alternative is buying a rookie for $110000 who will likely average 75 and rise to $400000 providing a realisable profit of $290000 at about rd 9 when he hits BE. This will enable an upgrade to a premium averaging 105-110 and a similar outcome given the cost of the trade (not taking into account the differential in initial investment.)
Basically, if you are punting on Lake, you need all fingers and toes crossed that injury, attitude and teamate respect issues have been dealt with.

  5. I already have Christensen, thought bout Sidebottom but am banking on Brown maybe, jus maybe goin to $470-$480 then maybe snag a premium.. Was wondering about Porplyzia also.. Decent pre-season apparently, so time In th midfield could be a reality.. I am new to SC.. But am so addicted 🙂

  6. I have both Brown and Lake at the moment. But will see NAB form. The average for defenders drops away a fair bit after the top 4-5 so i think Lake is a must for some steady scores in defence if he can stay fit. Have my eye on Armstrong and Johnston also as possible inclusions.
