Target Test – Hamish McIntosh?

Written by Big Sexy on February 23 2012

I realised we haven’t run a ‘test’ on a ruckman yet, and thought good ‘ole Ham fits the bill.  Hamish is a former premier ruckman of the comp, and a SC standout.  However, an achilles saw him miss all but one game last season.  I actully thought his price is a little high at $364k for practically a full season skip.  Anyway,  having done my own achilles this time last year and it’s now fully functional, every time I push-it in a competitive environment it’s in the back of my mind, and you hold back just-a-little-bit.  So I personally wont touch him (or Roughy for that matter), but please put aside  my heavy bias, and let us know what you really think?

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

FYI – I should also mention at my very first meeting with the surgeon, he said “no matter what anyone says, it will never be as strong as it was”

  1. hamish would be a great 1st or 2nd ruck pick for any team ,has great $ value and a hugh tank . If he stays injury free there is a good chance he could be a keeper by the end of this year . If the kangaroos can sort out their ruck and forward positions with goldie (Just like the cox / nic nat combo ) I really think the kangaroos could make the eight . but saying that both have to be on the park and share the load .

  2. Not in my plans. I have a few doubts-
    a) Coming back off Achilles injury. These are never a good one to get and even less so on a bigger guy.
    b) Has to contest with Goldie for ruck time and Dish for forward time which will have an impact on all 3 for SC points. (it will be good for the Roos though) I predict he will average somewhere between 60-80 if he is lucky.

Please note that this is an opinion and as such I am not responsible for the inevitable poor output of Hamish and would encourage all those in LoEC2 to have him as their R1.

  3. Concur with Juddy. IF there are Rucks NOT competing with other rucks for time on ground they must be better value. Lberger, Mumford and Mcevoy etc. Same reason leaving Big Cox alone this year as one would assume they want Nicknat to have more time in the middle.

  4. Im definetly considering Hamish. I might be taking a punt but then again high scoring quality ruckmen are hard to find. He looked fine in the NAB & has had a full pre season. He also can play forward & would be a decent 2nd SC ruckmen….until I upgrade him to Sandilands or Leunberger. He’s a potential cashcow & when fully fit is a better player than Goldstein.

  5. I’ve considered this ALOT last winter and over the summer as well from both a North supporters perspective but also a SC perspective.

My read is this: Hamish back is a HUGE bonus for North and coupled with continued development from our younger lads, should see us play finals. You could reasonably expect that Hamish’s, Goldie’s and Petrie’s scores will all fall a little from what we know they are capable of but North will benefit from this three pronged tall attack. Personally, i’m not going to pick any of these three so i can enjoy watching them play rather than be frustrated when they ‘only’ get 2 goals, 14 possessions, 15 hit outs and 80 SC points.

  6. ..another quick hmac poll

thumb up > Sandi + Giles
thumb down > Hmac + Krooz

imo there’s fast bucks to be made in the rucks for the canny trader this year

    “fast bucks in the rucks..”
